CELEBRATING THE RESIDENTIAL PARK COMMUNITIES FOR 63 YEARS
Palm Springs International Shortfest By Alison Elsner This annual event presents 325 film shorts, from 10-30 minutes each, grouped by theme and curated into 90-minute screenings. The largest short film fest in North America will make viewers laugh, cry and feel. Filmgoers will have the opportunity to attend film parties, filmmaker and actor meet and greets, behind-the-scenes educational sessions and lounges. The festival also includes the ShortFest Forum, a series of panels, master classes and roundtable discussions designed to provide
emerging filmmakers with both the knowledge and the networking opportunities to further their careers in the film industry. Titles and themes will be announced in early-June. Past themes have included Animal Instincts, Sibling Stories, Dysfunctional Families, Secrets and Lies, The Things We Do for Love and many others. ShortFest is defined by a decidedly casual atmosphere and a taste for the unconventional, representing thought-provoking works from over 47 countries around the globe. Opening night on June 19, starting at 6:30 p.m., features “Good
Vibrations,” a top-notch grouping of feel-good films to kick off the festival. The celebration will continue at LULU California Bistro. On closing night, June 24, also beginning at 6:30 p.m, the Audience Award winners will be announced. Selected Oscar-qualifying films will be screened, and attendees are invited to the final party (location to be announced). Monday, June 25 will feature “Best of the Fest,” re-screening audience favorites. The ShortFest is the sister event to the annual celebrity-studded Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) held each January. Both filmmakers and spectators come
away from ShortFest with a new understanding of topics presented, the filmmaking process and often, new friends. ShortFest is a tempting presentation of brain candy, healthy for both mind and spirit. Tickets will be available online or at the box office starting June 13. Attendees are encouraged to view the full schedule of film screening and titles on ShortFest website. ShortFest takes place June 19 through June 25. Screening will be held at the Camelot Theatres, located at 2300 East Baristo Road in Palm Springs.
