Memorial Day Flower Drop at Palm Springs Air Museum

This year the Palm Springs Air Museum’s Memorial Day Ceremony commemorates the 71th anniversary of the ending of World War Two. After a brief ceremony with color guard and singing of the National Anthem, Tuskegee Airman / B-17 escort Lt. Col. Bob Friend will accept Owen Bayliss Coffman’s Purple Heart on behalf of the Palm Springs Air Museum. A vintage B-25 Bomber will come out of the European Hangar, take off, and after a couple of passes, drop 3,000 carnations from the sky over the Museum’s tarmac behind the museum. or of those who fought in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The red carnations are in honor of those who died in more recent conflicts including the Persian Gulf, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. Flight exhibitions throughout the day include the F-86 Sabre Jet (Planes of Fame East), Yak 3, P-51, T-28, P-63 & C-47. There will also be a missing man formation flight exhibition. In advance of the Memorial Day Ceremony and Flower Drop: Flight exhibitions start at 10 a.m. Aircraft scheduled to fly are our C-47, P-51, our P-63 (one of four in the world that are currently air-wor-

There will also be music will be provided by Heatwave Jazz Band. Children’s activities (Harpo the Clown, Knights of Columbus helium balloons). Food vendors (Freedom Fighter’s Café, Grills Gone Wild, Big Easy Sandwich Company, Cone Zone, Knights of Columbus Pizza, and the All American Cookie Company. Beer tent for people age 21 and older. paying tickets per flight (or one fabulous person to buy out the ride! Palm Springs Air Museum, 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs. Activities (but not airplane rides) included with regular admission to the museum which ranges from $9 to $16. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own portable chairs, and to carpool. Active Military and their immediate family with ID and children five and under are free. Family rates are $35 and $45, depending on the age of the children.
