Graeme Douglas - 2021 Superintendent of the Year

The British Columbia Golf Superintendents Association Board of Directors selected Graeme Douglas, Manager of Golf and Hotel Facilities at St. Eugene Golf & Casino Resort as the Syngenta 2021 BCGSA Superintendent of the year. Graeme was presented with the award at the BCGSA Professional Development Days held at Delta Ocean Pointe Resort in Victoria, BC on November 21 - 23, 2021.

Graeme graduated from Fairview College and Guelph University and since then has spent over 40 years in the golf industry. 13 of those years were spent overseas in Europe and Cuba working for world renowned architects such as Robert Trent Jones, Cabell B. Robinson, and Les Furber.

An excellent example of a professional, Graeme Douglas always conducts himself with honor and integrity. He is always willing to share his wealth of knowledge or discuss new ideas, be it with someone new to the industry or other experienced professionals. Anyone having a discussion with Graeme will quickly realize his commitment to his profession and his desire to excel and constantly improve his craft.

A 35-year member of the Canadian Golf Superintendent Association, Graeme is a strong supporter of the CGSA, BCGSA, and the Kootenay Chapter of the BCGSA. Along with attending national, provincial and local events, Graeme is the annual host of the Kootenay Chapter AGM held at St. Eugene in November. Graeme currently holds the post as the Kootenay Chapter Representative on the BCGSA Board of Directors.

With over 25 years at St. Eugene, Graeme has seen the property mature from grow-in to the award-winning facility it is today. Graeme and the resort pride themselves on their water conservation and environmental stewardship. Their accomplishments have been featured internationally in Audubon International’s Stewardship News in winter of 2010, a national newspaper in Germany, and on Australia’s World Education website. Graeme was recognized for his contributions as an environmental steward in 2011 winning the CGSA Environmental Achievement Award.
