Report from the Lower Mainland Region

Spring 2022

2021 ended in much the same way the rest of the year unfolded; the weather was unpredictable and record-breaking again, creating many challenges. Record rainfall and flooding affected us all in some way. Hopefully, we all were able to push through and recover from the effects. It was great to see our industry step up and help each other during these difficult times. Fraserglen Golf Course in Abbotsford was particularly hard hit, and many of us rallied to help repair damaged equipment and clean up the flood debris. The owners, Dave and Corrine, were very touched by our help and were thankful to all those involved. A special thank you to Peter Szarka from Redwoods for helping coordinate all of the efforts. When considering purchases this spring, please support businesses in our industry who were affected by the flooding.

BCGSA professional development days were a great success. Thank you to the organizers for putting on this fantastic event in challenging times. It was wonderful to meet up again in person to network and socialize.

As we begin another year, there is still the uncertainty of Covid and its effects on golf. I suspect we will still see increased traffic to our facilities since golf has had limited restrictions during the pandemic. Now is the time to recharge, gather our thoughts and plan for the upcoming season. The Lower Mainland chapter recently met to discuss several upcoming events scheduled, assuming health orders will allow them to proceed. If any members have ideas or topics they would like to be implemented this year, please reach out to any board members.

I am wishing you all a great start to the 2022 season.

Respectfully submitted, James Muter Lower Mainland Chapter President
