Bishop Carroll Pommers Tryout Information
Parent Meeting:
All rookie parents are highly encouraged to attend the tryout parent meeting on April 11 at 6:30 PM. This meeting will take place in the Bishop Carroll Library. Returning parents are also encouraged to be there as there are some changes from last year. At the meeting, we will discuss expectations, contracts, dates, fees, and more. Please email Coach Bella if your dancer is planning on trying out, but you cannot make it to the meeting.
Clinics:
The clinics will be held on April 12 and 13 from 4:30-6:30 PM in the Bishop Carroll Activities Complex. Dancers will learn each of the tryout routines and practice the set skills. The clinics are mandatory and attendance will demonstrate to the coaches your level of dedication. Exceptions for attendance can be made on a case-by-case basis and are at the discretion of the coaches.
Dancers are encouraged to wear athletic clothing and have their hair pulled back. Dancers should wear jazz shoes or half-soles/turners for the clinics.
While the scoring occurs at the tryout, the clinics are a good time to show that you are teachable and pay attention to detail. A positive attitude is also noticed.
Tryouts:
Each dancer will be expected to complete a certain set of skills as specified on the Tryout Score Sheet (reviewed at parent meeting and clinics). These skills will be performed one at a time. After the individual skills, dancers will perform the kick/pom routine in groups of two or three, followed by the jazz routine. (If there is a conflict and a dancer cannot make it to the tryout, they are allowed to submit a video tryout of the skills and the choreography.)
Once they have completed their tryout, they are free to leave. Results will be posted Friday night after tryouts (method TBD).
With every tryout there is a natural break in scoring. Last year, there were 18 girls on the team, however there is not a set number every year. (For example, if a natural break occurs at 16, the team will have 16 girls.)
Post-Tryout Meeting:
After the team is selected, there will be a post-tryout meeting with the new team. Both dancers and parents are encouraged to attend.
Date will be determined after tryouts.
