PARENT Login Canvas
NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LOGIN AS A PARENT UNTIL YOUR STUDENT HAS LOGGED INTO CANVAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. We will be using Canvas again this year for our online learning platform. Canvas is a LMS (Learning Management System) which is very popular at the high school and collegiate level. It has a student, parent, and teacher app which can be accessed by a cell phone in addition to being able to access your information on a computer. We recommend you secure a computer for your student’s online learning and rely on the phone app for updates only. Please contact the school if you need a device. Parents need to be registered as observers. This means parents can see everything in the course, including assignments, grades on assignments, calendars and announcements. Please note observers (Parents) can NOT access (open) any assignments but they can see them. Parents will setup their accounts either using a “sharing code” found in student account settings or by using a QR Code also found in student’s account settings. In canvas, a user can receive as many notification as they wish. I would recommend using the cell phone app for parents.
NOTE: We will not be able to respond to a student email in Canvas unless they have an observer attached to the email. We strongly recommend you sign up as an observer. If your student emails a teacher through Canvas or Outlook without your email included, we may NOT respond to your student. We need the parent email which would be the email you used to sign up as an observer in canvas to return email messages from your student

LOGIN TO CANVAS USING A CELL PHONE
1. Make sure you have cell service or wifi.
2. Go to app store Download Canvas Parent on your cell phone
3. Click on Find School press next.
4. Your student needs to be logged into their canvas account ON A different COMPUTER to get the pairing code for you to put in the information the pairing code is the last step.
5. Type in Bishop Carroll Catholic High School and make sure to choose the Parents one
6. Click Create Account at the bottom
7. Type in the information and when you get to the student pairing code go to step #8
8. Your student will have to go to their canvas account on a different computer to get the pairing code. Keep your cell phone open the pair code answer. You will type the code in from your student’s screen.
a. Student Logs in to canvas and goes to Account (top left-hand side of canvas screen)
b. Settings (left hand side)
c. Pair with observer (which is on the right-hand side) and this will generate a code for you to put in the pairing box.
Canvas Pairing Using QR Code
This is just another option to get the code. From the account of the student. > Click account and then > QR for mobile.
You may then use your phone to pair the account
If you do not have a phone to pair > Settings > Pair with Observer
LOGIN TO CANVAS FROM A COMPUTER
1. Go to Bishop Carroll Website= http://www.bcchs.org
2. Click on the Canvas Icon (far right hand part of the screen)
3. Pick Canvas Parent Login
4. Top right hand corner –click here for an account
5. Type in the information and to get student pairing code go to step #6
6. Students will have to go to their canvas account on another computer and login then
a. Go to account (left hand side)
b. Settings (left side)
c. Pair with observer (which is on the right-hand side) and this will generate a code for you to put in this screen
Students will need use a computer to do assignments. The phone app will be used to upload a picture for an assignment and to receive updates about upcoming assignments/quizzes/test. Please do not rely on the phone app for the bulk of school assignments; it is to be used as a supplemental.

AFTER you successfully complete the process of becoming an observer of your student’s canvas account, you can change your notifications preference. You can select how and when you want to be notified. To change notification settings, please login to the parent canvas account by going to http://www.bcchs.org and clicking on Canvas Login and choose Parent Login Canvas. You will login now with the credentials you created in the previous steps. Login with your email and password you created.
1. Go to accounts
2. Notification
3. You can choose to be notified Immediately, Daily, Weekly, or Receive No Notification
4. Follow the directions on the screen and check what you want to be notified about using the selections in #3 (above). Immediately, Daily, Weekly, or Receive No Notification
To adjust notifications, you must use a computer. Once you login to the app or on a computer, you will use the same email and password to login again. Do not re-create your account.
