WE NEED YOU GOOD NEIGHBOUR SCHEME

We are trying to set up a group of volunteers to ‘buddy’ and help out in times of need. There are some sick and elderly ex-pats that could do with a helping hand. If you would like to join our community spirited scheme and can offer practical help on a voluntary basis within the Cadiz – Chiclana areas, even if only for a short amount of time, then please phone Edwin Cherrey on 691 486 985 to offer your services. Many thanks indeed.

Baywatch Summer Editorial

Finally, Summer is upon us and hopefully, for most of you at least, the rains are a distant memory. . The crowds in the local cities and towns are starting to grow which seems to be a great indication that a healthy population of tourists may soon be gracing our shores. I think I probably speak for everyone that advertises and reads our media when I say that we are all looking forward to a strong financial boost to local businesses!

Some of you may know that in the last edition of The Baywatch Magazine we printed an article regarding the month’s trial of our new internet based radio station – Radio Baywatch. The purpose of the trial was to evaluate the response from listeners, presenters and businesses interested in advertising on the radio. The result was simply overwhelming from all of these parties. The listeners gave a resounding thumbs up saying that they were happy that something now exists for the English speaking community. Taking heed of all this support and advice we are delighted to announce that a sponsor for the entire station has been found and this will allow us to broadcast the station for the coming twelve months at least. The launch date for the station to start broadcasting permanently will be Sunday 6th June 2010 and will be held at Casa Blas (Venta La Sorpresa) in Pago del Humo. The event will begin at 12:00 and finish around 15:00. For further details and a map to the location please see the radio section of www.baywatchonline.org We sincerely hope to see as many of you there as possible. For now have a wonderful Summer and we look forward to talking to you again in the next edition. Rob, Amy, Colin and Julia The Baywatch Group

HEALTH MATTERS Diabetes

Symptoms, Signs and Treatment

Most of the food we eat is turned into glucose, or sugar, for our bodies to use for energy. The pancreas, an organ that lies near the stomach, makes a hormone called insulin to help glucose get into the cells of our bodies. When you have diabetes, your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes a break in the blood glucose/insulin cycle (see diagram below) and therefore causes sugars to build up in your blood. This problem can be treated either by external injections of insulin to compensate for the lack of insulin produced by the pancreas, or simply by controlling your diet, eating healthily cutting out sugary foods which helps to maintain your blood glucose levels so that the build up of sugars does not occur

There are 2 major types of diabetes; Type 1& Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is also referred to as diabetes mellitus.

Type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent) requires insulin to treat, is typically developed as a child or young adult, and is a disease that destroys pancreatic cells meaning no insulin production is possible. Symptoms for type 1 diabetes: Exceptional thirst Dry mouth Frequent urination Loss of weight Weakness or fatigue Blurred vision Type 2 Diabetes (Diabetes Mellitus, non-insulin dependent diabetes ) Type 2 diabetes is considerably more common and typically affects people over the age of 45, who are also overweight. Those suffering from type 2 are unable to produce enough insulin, and How to check your own blood sugar builds up in the bloodstream. glucose levels How does type 2 diabetes occur? You can easily monitor your Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce blood sugar levels using a enough insulin to meet the body's needs or the insulin is not simple blood test kit, available metabolised effectively. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is characterinow from most pharmacies. You sed by insulin deficiency, a measure of insulin resistance, and simply prick your finger or thumb hyperglycaemia. Type 2 diabetes varies in severity. Following and place a droplet of blood onto pre-diabetes or metabolic disorder diagnosis, type 2 can devethe supplied strip of paper, insert lop at an early stage. Type 2 is usually treated through diet and the paper into the exercise, but if it becomes more serious and resistance to insmall machine and sulin increases, some type 2 diabetics also have to take oral wait for the medication or use insulin to keep their blood sugar levels stable reading. Symptoms type 2 diabetes: Blurred vision Leg Pain Ideal blood glucose values:* Excessive thirst Frequent urination • 4 to 7mmol/l before meals Dry mouth • less than 10mmol/l 90 Cuts or sores that take a long time to heal minutes after a meal Itching skin or yeast infections • around 8mmol/l at bedtime. *Ideal values in the UK

Annual Summer Feria

You know summer is here when the ferias come to town!

Usually the feria will last a few days in one area, with different styles during the daytime and then at night. The 'daytime feria' usually takes place in the streets of the town itself, involving many local residents. The streets are usually closed to traffic, and many businesses close for the week as well. Tables and chairs are set up and the bars serve food and drink in the street with music playing on every corner. People of all ages sing and dance, and visitors arealways welcome. At night, the feria shifts to a more public fairground or "recinto ferial", usually on the outskirts of the town. There is a traditional amusement park with lots of rides for the children and “casetas" (tents) set up by the various clubs, associations and political parties of the town. Some of these tents provide liveentertainment and all are equipped with a full bar.

June and July is feria time in Andalucia and a time we all look forward to, where the girls get dressed up in their fabulous dresses and there is a wonderful sense of happiness and fun in the air. Almost every town in the region holds its own feria when the locals come together to enjoy themselve. Wouldn't it be fun to travel around the region and see them all?

The annual summer feria actually originated in the middle ages, when it was used at the principle means of interchanging local products across the Kingdom. People came from all around the area to buy and sell livestock, fruit and vegetables and local handicrafts and tools. These days it is purely a social event with music and dancing and fair ground rides. The first feria of the year takes place in Seville in April (2 weeks after Semana Santa) and they continue all around the region until the last feria, which is at San Pedro de AlcĂĄntara in October.

The ferias usually start midweek and finish on Sunday night. In the larger towns they start at midnight on the Sunday night with fireworks. The Monday after the feria is often a local holiday to recover!

Baywatch Guide to the Best Beaches Part 1: Tarifa, Barabte and Vejer

17

You may have your favourite beach on the Costa de la Luz...but here are few others that might take your fancy. Written for Baywatch Magazine by Veronica Penman Spain has over 5000 miles of coastline with the Costa de la Luz having the most under-developed and unspoiled sandy beaches. Many of the Costa de la Luz beaches have the prestigious Blue Flag award; this award has strict awarding criteria for beach qualit regarding environmental information and management, water quality, safety and services. Look out for the Blue Flag beaches below with this symbol

TARIFA AREA Tarifa has 8 beaches and is the meeting point between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean, made popular as a wind surfing location. Playa Los Lances (pictured top right) is the longest beach in Andalusia set on the Atlantic, in the heart of Tarifa town with long golden sands ideal for families, sunbathing and water sports; it also has excellent facilities. Playa Valdevaqueros is 8 km from Tarifa town and is an idea chill out location, and popular among water sport enthusiasts. Playa Bolonia (pictured bottom right) is 20 km from Tarifa voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain due to its location in a small cove, with golden sands that have been blown up into the peninsula to form large sand dunes overlooked by Baelo Claudia, the ruins of a first century Roman town. BARBATE AREA Barbate which is synonymous with tuna fishing in the region, also has some of the less frequented beaches, thus making them ideal destinations in the summer months. Los Caños de Meca, 10 km from Barbate town is one of such beaches favoured by Spanish holiday makers for its rocky coves and long golden sands. This beach has one of the most laid back atmospheres and the more secluded cove areas are used for naturist bathing. Playa Cañillos (pictured top right) situated between Barbate and Zahara de los Atunes is an unspoiled virgin beach with minimal facilities. However, if you’re looking for tranquility away from the crowds this is an ideal location. Playa Zahara de los Atunes (pictured bottom right) is located in the small village of Zahara de los Atunes, which is known for being a hospitable and friendly spot with good tapas. The 1.6 km long beach has great facilities and is one of the more popular beaches in the area. The beach bars are open in the evening and is a grea location to watch the sunset. VEJER DE LA FRONTERA AREA El Palmar beach is 9km from the historic Moorish white town of Vejer de la Frontera. El Palmar has long fine golden sands and transparent waters surrounded by a natural environment, ideal for sunbathing, swimming, walking and relaxing. It is also a popular surf spot when the weather permits. Located close to the beach are restaurants and bars and in the summer months, small market stalls. At the end of the beach is the Torre Nueva used in the 17th and 18th century to protect the coast from pirates and invaders.

In the Next Edition Baywatch looks at the best beaches in Chiclana, Conil and Cadiz.

Simple Hair Care tips for Summer From Mary´s Mobile Hairdressers Summer can play havoc with your hair, especially coloured or chemically treated hair. However keeping your hair in tip top condition during the summer months here in Spain, doesn’t have to be a tedious hair care routine. Just a few simple tricks can help you make the best of your hair during the summer season. • Swimming in a chlorinated pool or the sea: Chlorine is very harsh on hair and can make it look dull and fizzy. Sea salt has a similar effect and can make dyed hair even worst because dyes and colourants make hair more porous than natural hair. Wet your hair before swimming, it can only soak up so much moisture and apply a good protein rich conditioner or a spray on leave in conditioner. This will give it added protection from the chlorine and salt as well as the sun. It is always best to rinse hair after swimming, but if you are not in a position to do so, re-apply your leave-in conditioner. For those of you with bleached or lighten hair make sure it is well covered with a conditioner and shampoo with a chlorine-eliminating shampoo, or you could end up with green hair. Always seek professional advice if this should happen to you. • Use a wide tooth comb and don’t brush wet hair. Wet hair becomes elasticated, so be gentle with it, when placing your hair up, try not to over pull or tighten the hair; this will cause the hair to break. • When it comes to shampoo, try sticking to a good moisturising one, and if possible rinse off with luke warm or cool water. Remember you don’t want any more heat than is necessary added to your hair. • Remember to drink plenty of water in the summer. It hydrates all parts of the body, which includes your hair[and it’s also very important for your health. Preventing damage to the hair and caring for hair is not difficult. Thinking ahead is the key factor to good looking hair during the hot summer months. For more advice on Haircare, call Mary on 662 490 530

El Corte Ingles – How to apply for your Store Card (EC1) and Interest Free Credit facilities.

21

You could be forgiven for thinking that you have just walked into a branch of John Lewis or Harrods when you enter any of the El Corte Iñgles stores here in Spain. In the Cadiz locality there is one in San Fernando at Bahia Sur and another in Cadiz itself. If you have never been, or haven’t been lately, then it is well worth a visit as the range, quality, and variety of products on offer is superb and now you can get some real bargains especially if you buy on interest free credit with either their Store Card or finance packages. The company are keen to attract British customers to the benefits of their Store Card and it is really easy to apply for one. Here’s how we did it in a few easy steps:

1. Go the Attencion al Cliente section in either of the above stores. In the Cadiz store it is situated on the same level as the underground car park. Just go in through the entrance from the parking area, turn right past the kitchen goods and keep going until you come to the counter on the right hand side.

2. Now I’m afraid that I can’t help you with your Spanish, but you need to tell them that you want to apply for a Store Card or Shopping Card as they call it. You will need to have your Residents Card or Certificate, a bank statement with your bank and account details on it. The statement will need to show regular receipts from either your work or pension as they will ask if you are salaried, self-employed or a pensioner. Like with any credit application they want to see proof of regular income. In order to make this process easier I visited my bank first and got a print out off them which detailed the amount and dates of my pension credits, and that seemed to do the trick very nicely. 3. Once they have seen your documentation and are happy with it you will need to fill out the application form. The staff are very helpful and will assist if required. After much photocopying they will tell you that the card will be ready in about 15 days. Make sure that you give them your postal address as well as your actual address (if different). They will tell you if they will post the card to you or if you can collect it in store. You can also apply for a second card for your partner.

That’s it, if approved they will set your credit limit and you will receive or collect your card when ready. The whole process takes about 30 mins. Interest Free Finance is different and approval almost instantaneous. Here’s how to apply.

1. Make sure that you have with you the documentation listed in 2 above. 2. Choose the item you want to buy on Interest Free Credit and tell the salesperson that’s how you want to pay. They will direct you to the Attencion Al Cliente counter and will give you the details of the product you are buying. 3. At the counter give them the product details and tell them you want to buy it on interest free credit. They will ask to see the bank stuff and help with the application form. 4. They should explain that they need to get authorisation from Madrid and suggest that you continue shopping as this only takes about 30mins to get. Either give them your mobile phone number or return to the counter later to see if it’s been approved. If all OK then you can take your purchase or have it delivered.

One final point, we found the whole process fairly straight forward providing you have the right information for them. The staff were friendly and helpful, in fact the whole experience was totally stress free and for any large purchases interest free credit could be for you.

Football World Cup South Africa 2010

23

The Fifa Football World Cup is held every four years and this year the focus is on South Africa who host the 19th official World Cup tournement, where teams from all over the world compete for the trophy. Previous winners included France in 1998, Brazil in 2002 and Italy in 2006. Favourites for this years tournement include Spain, Brazil, France and England but as previous tournements have shown, anything can happen from the first group stages to the semi´s and the final. So, What About England.... England go into their 13th FIFA World Cup™ as not just Group C's main attraction but as overwhelming favourites to finish top of the group. Yet they may not have things their own way. The USA have upset England before and they will be hopeful of making progress – the Americans have a depth of quality and experience that puts them in a different league from the college kids who travelled to Italia 90 with the Stars 'n' Stripes two decades ago. Slovenia, making their second FIFA World Cup appearance, and Algeria, their third, complete the section – but will be determined to do much more than make up the numbers. The appointment of Fabio Capello appears to have brought fresh vigour to the Three Lions' squad, many of whom have a point to prove after lacklustre displays when it mattered most under SvenGoran Eriksson and Steve McClaren. With the tournament due to take place in the South African winter, conditions which should suit the English players and style, so excuses will be at a premium should Wayne Rooney and Co fall short once more. Expectation always surrounds the England Team ahead of major tournements but with the winning mentality instilled by manager Fabio Capello there is a belief within the squad that Baywatch 2010 2010 could be England´s Year! Good Luck Boys!

England´s World Cup Chances By Football Brian

IT’S COMING HOME.....OR IS IT? Lets take a look at their previous form.... England qualified comfortably for 2010 world cup in South Africa with the following results. Home Games Away games England V Andorra 6-0 2-0 England V Croatia 5-1 4- 1 England V Belarus 3-0 3-1 England V Kazakhstan 5-1 4-0 England V Ukraine 2-1 0 -1

England now play the following teams in Group C of the World Cup 2010: USA on 12th June, Algeria on 18th June and Slovenia on 23rd June. Then Group C qualifiers play Group D qualifiers. If England are top of Group C they would then play the runners up of Group D and if England are second in Group C then they will play the winners of Group D. I believe the main problems that England have to face are the many injuries incurred by some of their key players this season I.E, Wayne Rooney (top goal scorer in qualifying rounds with 9 goals), Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Owen Hargreaves, and Joe Cole. Under the leadership of Fabio Cappello, England stands a very good chance of going through to the 2nd round of the World cup if they can steer clear of any further injuries they could go some way towards the Semi-Finals. In my opinion our most difficult opponents would be Brazil, Germany, Argentina Spain, Italy and France, Unfortunately England have not won the world cup since 1966, and only

reached the semi- finals in 1970. Let’s hope for some glory in 2010.

For that convivial ‘Irish Craic’ visit Molly Malone’s in El Puerto Santa Maria. It’s a Great British Irish Pub and Sports Bar, owned by Scotsman Ian and his Spanish wife Juani and managed by Steve, a Brummie - a chef by trade, so the food is supervised to a very high standard. The food is good and tasty, with a varied menu that exemplifies the local area. IE their hamburgers are renowned; they have to be with the American US Naval base nearby in Rota. It’s all home made, healthy and hearty and freshly cooked, with lots of fresh vegetables. Wednesdays are great for Fish n Chips and there’s a special curry night on the last Friday of the month – not to be missed. Upstairs there’s a garden terrace complete with BBQ and an independent bar to enjoy their extensive range of drinks, German beers, wines and spirits. Cider’s on tap and of course, Murphys and Guinness, which is like drinking velvet and after a pint of their finest Newcastle Brown, you’ll wish you weren’t the duty driver and/or organised a taxi home so that you can enjoy a couple more plus their Irish coffee!

As it’s a Sports Bar, the World Cup will be shown of course. All the English and Scottish Premiership football, Ireland and England Internationals, etc - on Sky Sports Digital TV. They also have BBC1 and show 6 Nations Rugby, Formula 1, American Football and all other sporting events. If it's on, and you want to see it, you can see it there. Opening hours: 12 noon until very late (11.30pm last food orders) 7 days a week. Advisable to book during the summer months - 956 480 834. Typical 3 course meal would cost around €20.00. It’s Non Smoking and good for all the family with special children’s menus (approx 7€). And for an evening’s giggle, Molly Malone’s Theme Nights attract crowds and there’s always a great atmosphere. Try a relaxing day out in the lovely picturesque town and surroundings of El Puerto Santa Maria topped off with a great evening at Molly’s.

To get there head towards Jerez on the A4. Come off the A4 at junction 649 and turn left at the roundabout towards Poligo Industrial. Turn right at the end of this road and continue on to the flyover and follow the dual carriageway to junction 24. Exit at J24 and trun left at the roundabout onto another dual carriageway. Turn right at the 2nd roundabout (English college on the right) and continue straight over 4 roundabouts. After the 4th, you will see Molly Malones in a row of shops and bars on the left.

This year ChiFRA has tried to focus its efforts on some of the major issues that concern our membership, including; Integration, Age Concern, Electricity, and the “AGB”. Here is a brief update:

Integration & Spanish Classes: The Spanish classes held at the “Centro del Dia de Mayores” were a great success, not only for those of you who have improved your Spanish, but also for some of our Spanish neighbors who are now starting to notice that we are not all tourists, or indifferent colonist, resigned to living in small English speaking communities; but fellow citizens who take a genuine interest in their language and culture.

Holding the language classes in a social centre frequented by the “Locals” has allowed us to “rub shoulders” and start to break down barriers and misconceptions. For many, this has brought the realization that we (like them) are not all as rich or comfortable as they were lead to believe; surviving on a limited pensions, or working hard to earn a living. We hope to restart our Spanish language classes in September. This and other ChiFRA activities, including our participation in the “Battle Of Chiclana” events, are paying back dividends and opening new doors. One of which is, that for the first time in the 25 years of it's history “Radio Chiclana 101,7FM” are now broadcasting in English. ChiFRA are “ON AIR” once a week on Monday afternoons at 5.30pm with a run down on the “Local” and ChiFRA news. This is a free slot, donated to ChiFRA and the ex-pat community by the Chiclana Council and Radio Chiclana. Many thanks to Rocío Oliva (Director) Guillermo Ortiz (Presenter) and Alfonso (Sound) for their help.

Age Concern: ChiFRA has been helping “Age Concern” to facilitate locations and organize events. – After holding several successful meetings at places like the “Casa de la Cultura”, the Church in “Novo Sancti Petri” and the “Centro del Dia de Mayores”, it looks like they are finally getting off the ground. Several members have stepped up to the challenge and we will continue to help and support them for as long as it takes! Anyone interested can contact Yvonne Ferrier at yvonne@chifra.org .

Electricity, and the “AGB”: ChiFRA have been working very hard in the background, trying to negotiate lower prices for those who are inside the plan, supporting things like the 60€ per month method of payment and the restitution of electricity for those households outside of the plan. Most of these negotiations are ongoing and information will be posted on our Web page as and when we have it. We are hoping to report several breakthrough's in the near future.

ChiFRA is a voluntary association and relies on you, the members, to take part in our activities and give us your ideas. Please keep an eye on our web page at www.chifra.org as it is constantly changing and new articles are regularly added. The ChiFRA Web page is now one of the most read, English speaking, local sites. If you are interested in sponsoring a link, or know of anyone who may be, please contact us at info@chifra.org . Membership is rapidly increasing and compared to 2009, has already trebled in the first four months of this year.

We are constantly trying to improve and are looking into ways in which to invite even more people to join us. One of which is a complete rethink about our future events and how we can reach out to more people, including events that we can share with our fellow “Chiclaneros” and fund raisers for local charities. If you have some spare time and would be prepared to help out, please contact us. Roger Alan Holmes - President ChiFRA

A woman has twins but unfortunately had to give them up for adoption. One twin goes to a family in Egypt and is named Ahmal. The other goes to a Spanish family and they name him Juan. Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother.

When she received the picture she says to her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, 'They're twins, if you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal.'

Irene Donaldson from Chiclana joins over 10,000 women walking the streets of Edinburgh, Scotland, to raise money for Breast Cancer

At midnight on Saturday 19th June thousands of men and women take to the street of Edinburgh to power walk either a half marathon (13.1 miles) or a full marathon (26.2 miles) wearing coloured costumes and decorated bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer sufferers all over the country. Irene Donaldson is taking up the challenge to do her bit for the Cancer charity that helps so many people each year. This is what she says: “Having been through cancer treatment quite recently, I have decided to put something back into the system which gave me so much support by doing the Edinburgh Moonwalk on June 19. I have been training for the event here in Chiclana but there are not enough hills to replicate the hilly streets of Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Moonwalk, involving 10,000 women, will be led by TV personality Lorraine Kelly, whose mother and daughter are also taking part. Any donations to this great cause would be greatly appreciated, please see the link below to my fundraising page and give what you can. Thank You” http://www.walkthewalkfundraising.org/irene_donaldson The money raised for the Walk the Walk charity goes towards various projects and campaigns that are involved with breast cancer and gives money to where they know it will make the most difference. Their policy is to support research and also to support those that have cancer now with equipment and cash.

Pet Page

For Those Who Have Pets...

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE PETS, THIS IS A TRUE STORY. FOR THOSE THAT DON'T, IT IS A TRUE STORY. The following was found posted very low on a Kimba’s volunteer refrigerator door. Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest. The stairway was not designed by Formula One and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required. The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:

(1) They live here. You don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture. (3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they: (1) eat less, (2) don't ask for money all the time, (3) are easier to train, (4) normally come when called, (5) never ask to drive the car, (6) don't hang out with drug-using people; (7) don't smoke or drink, (8) don't want to wear your clothes, (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions, (10) don't need millions for school and university (11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children[

DOG CLUB Marilyin Atkinson from Wag Tails (www.wag-tails-couk) is hoping to start up a Dog Club/Society/ Support Group in the Chiclana area. The main purposes for this being; 1 To help those of you who take in stray or abandoned dogs with advice (from those of us who have been there) and with practical help, if needed. 2 To help people who have lost their dogs, with emotional or practical support. 3 To share information about what is going on the Doggie World. Either through a newsletter or verbally. 4 Possible monthly walks 5 Activities to raise money for the local dog charities.

Loving Siamese Cat, Needs A New Home

Please can you help me? As my owner is going back to England, I am looking for a new home. My name is Koshka and I am a very handsome male Siamese cat. I am 18 months old, house trained, neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated. I am extremely loving and love being nursed. I am used to dogs, but will not mix with other cats. I hope you will help me and if you can, please call: Lesley 56409437 or 646446989 Thank You

Concerned about Fighting Mosquitoes this summer? Here are 5 simple tips that might help you....

1) Plant mosquito deterring plants around your yard such as citronella, marigolds, basil, lavender, and catnip. 2) Keep spare tires and other items that collect water stored in a sheltered area. This cuts down on the amount of rain these items can collect. Empty standing water from buckets, boats, planters, wheelbarrows, etc. 3) Wear light coloured clothing. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark clothes. 4) It has also been advised to take Vitamin B1 tablets about 30mins before you go outside, and garlic tablets early evening time. However, this is said to only be affective for 1 in 3 people who try it. 5) Keep your body covered as much as possible (including wearing a hat), although mosquitoes can find their way through the fabric–it does cut down on bites

Just a tap on the shoulder: A passenger in a taxi leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the kerb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window.

For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the still shaking driver said, “Are you OK? I'm so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me.

The badly shaken passenger apologised to the driver and said he didn't realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle the driver so badly. The driver replied, 'No, no, I'm the one who is sorry – it's entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab. I've been driving a hearse for the past 25 years.
