Mission Statement

Bayshore’s mission is to graduate students with a biblical worldview who will inspire, impact, and serve their communities.

Vision Statement

We aim to teach children to think clearly and listen carefully with discernment and understanding; to reason persuasively and articulate precisely; to evaluate their entire range of experience in the light of the Scriptures; and to do so with eagerness and joyful submission to God. We desire that they recognize cultural influences as distinct from biblical truths, and to be unswayed towards evil by the former. We aim to help them become well prepared in all situations, equipping them with information and the knowledge of how to use it. We desire that they be socially graceful and spiritually gracious, as they become equipped with and gain an understanding of the tools of learning; that they desire to grow in understanding, yet fully realize the limitations and foolishness of this world. We desire that they have a heart for unbelievers and the courage to seek to dissuade those who are stumbling toward destruction; that they distinguish real religion from religion in form only; and that they possess the former, knowing and loving the Lord Jesus Christ. Along with all these, we desire that they possess humility and gratitude to God.

Revelation 21:5a

The Shona tribe of Zimbabwe have a proverb: “Njere moto unogokwa” -- “Knowledge is like a live coal.” In the smallest, most rural villages, one child gathers small limbs to ignite the fire that will cook the evening meal. One spark is vigorously fanned into flame, settling into a bed of hot, white coals from which neighbors borrow to start their own evening fires.

The moral? A once darkened village suddenly beams illumined from one tiny coal that began as a single flame through the ordinary, patient labor of a solitary child. So it is with education (and the gospel): “Knowledge is like a live coal.”

During this past year, the academic, athletic, and social embers glowed brightly at Bayshore Christian School. We celebrated the commencement of 27 students (our largest graduating class thus far) who are pursuing callings and further studies near and far.

Our Eagle wrestling, cross country, and baseball teams earned Alabama 1-A State Titles, and multiple awards for student-athlete scholarship. Likewise, scores of student activities including theatre, choir, field trips, and intramural competition fostered fruitful enterprise and community.

Like you, we continue to marvel at God’s grace to grow and bless Bayshore Christian School. The scores of families with whom we share children continue to be our greatest resource. For 20 years, the Lord has provided for our needs, blessed us with talented faculty, and used us (including you) to proclaim and promote the Gospel.

As we move toward construction of our new upper school facility, along with you, we will continue to marvel how the Lord chooses to use this classical, Christian school to bless our families, churches, communities, cities, nations, and world, “like a live coal.”

Cordially yours in Christ, Rev. Sam D. McDonald Interim Head of School

From the Head of And the one seated upon the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

Lemonade and Toy Sale

(Above) Joseph (6th grade), Ben (4th grade) and Sarah Lovelady (1st grade) along with Maysie Key (6th grade) held a Lemonade and Toy Sale for our new campus. These sweet children raised more than $130 for Bayshore!

(Left) While parents were raising money for BCS at the 2022 Bayshore Benefit, our students didn’t take a backseat. Lillie (3rd grade) and Mae Case (Kindergarten) made and sold smoothies! These entrepreneurs stayed up late to maximize their efforts.

Hurricane Ida Relief Drive

BCS Students help those recovering from Hurricane Ida

On September 17th we collected non-perishable food items in the BCS Gym. Everything from green beans to baby formula was donated by our families. Seven collection boxes were set up in the BCS gym and will be labeled with the seven Upper School House names.

At BCS, the Upper School students are divided into seven Houses and participate in various events as a House group. For this event, the Upper School students competed to see who had the most participation. Grammar School students were able to add their donation to the House box of their choice.

Items were picked up from school that afternoon by BCS Mom, Ashley Mayfield and delivered to one of the local churches who are transported the items to Louisiana.

This was a great opportunity for our community to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

God’s Timing & God’s Plans

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

The dream:

a large campus centrally located on the Eastern Shore with diverse access at a reasonable price where a classical Christian education might be offered for generations to come.

For years it seemed impossible that such land would be available, especially given the growth throughout the area. In 2018 a team found 46 contiguous acres consisting of multiple parcels, which were owned by separate parties and none of which were listed for sale. By the end of that year, terms of sale were negotiated,

sufficient funds were raised and all the parcels were purchased. Now it’s the canvas on which the future of Bayshore Christian School will be painted!

Since then, despite multiple hurricanes, a worldwide pandemic and more recent economic challenges, work is finally underway! The main entrance road from County Road 13 into the campus is being built, and the sitework for the north end of the campus is being completed. Funds are actively being raised for the Academic building, the first structure to be built. Additional teams are forming to continue the planning effort for athletic facilities and future buildings. All are eager to use the land to God’s glory!

The work underway at the new campus is spearheaded by the “New Campus Team’’ which consists of representatives from the BCS Administration, BCS Board, and the BCS Foundation. Originally formed in December 2018, the New Campus Team has engaged professional advisors along the way as they established a process, selected an architect, confirmed

Cover Story

functional requirements, and hosted stakeholder sessions.

Those efforts throughout 2019 and into early 2020 resulted in a preliminary campus plan as well as a floor plan and elevation renderings of the academic building.

At the Bayshore Benefit in March 2020, the capital campaign was officially launched – just as the COVID pandemic brought the world to a halt! Even in the darkest times of 2020, embers of hope were kept burning as construction resources were selected and donors were sought. While the protracted timeline was frustrating in ways, it offered opportunity for saving in the early site work to be done and for brainstorming on various aspects of the overall plan.

By 2021, with the receipt of early leadership gifts, the BCS Board approved the start of construction for preliminary site work and for the main entrance road. Soon

afterward, the BCS Board also engaged a fundraising advisor to review our progress and guide our next steps. In early 2022, just ahead of the Bayshore Benefit, the BCS Foundation received significant additional leadership gifts of over $1.3 million. Along with available funds from the school and attractive financing, the New Campus Team resumed their meetings to plan for the construction on campus.

As of mid-2022, even as additional funds are needed for the immediate Academic Building, momentum is strong and spirits are high. God is clearly at work, bringing new people and energy to the effort and stirring enthusiasm among the school staff, families, churches, donors and many other stakeholders.

Because it’s not clear how this will be accomplished, God will be glorified by it!

Progress is often hard to see in the earliest stages and especially when it’s over the horizon. It’s more evident when looking back to see the milestones passed.

BCS 10th grade student Braden Preus underwent cancer treatments for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma this year. Friends of the family created a t-shirt to show support of Braden and to raise funds for his medical expenses. In the fall, our students purchased and wore the shirts in support of Braden (seen below).

On December 16th Braden received the news that he is cancer free.

In the spring, after baseball practice, Braden was surprised by Magic Moments with tickets to a Redsox-Yankees game in New York City.
