La Porte Independent School District Every Student’s Success Is Our #1 Priority

Bond program construction continues on the La Porte High School campus The portable buildings in the La Porte High School senior parking lot have been removed, and the construction team is putting the finishing touches on new LPHS facilities as La Porte ISD prepares for the start of the 2017-18 school year. LPHS freshmen will start school on Tuesday, Aug. 22, while all other LPISD students will begin classes a day later on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Over the summer, the LPISD maintenance and operations staff has worked hard to ensure that campuses are ready for the start of the school year. At LPHS, work has continued toward the completion of the new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) facility, the new multi-purpose center that includes a competition gymnasium, and significant renovations to other parts of the school. The new facilities complement the career and technical education facility, fine arts center and natatorium that were completed with the start of the 2016-17 school year. The first event in the new multi-purpose center, which includes seating for over 2,000, will be the district’s back-to-school convocation for employees. For the first time, all district staff members will have the opportunity to gather together in celebration of the new school year. LPHS volleyball and basketball games also will be played in the new facility. Construction and renovation projects throughout the district were made possible through community support of the $260 million bond program in May 2014. Information about the bond program and photos of its progress are available on the LPISD website at www.lpisd.org.

The construction team works on the covered walkway that will link the La Porte High School STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) building with the career and technical education facility.
