AWARDS HONORS Craig Colten, professor emeritus of geography at LSU, has received the 2022 American Association of Geographers Gilbert White Distinguished Public Service Honors award. Colten, a senior adviser at The Water Institute, was honored for
his contributions as a government employee during his early career and as an academic. For example, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, as the public sought to understand the shocking devastation of one of America’s iconic cities, he spoke through media appearances and newspaper essays on the importance of historical geography in understanding people and places.

Robert Rieger Jr. is being recognized by the Women’s Public Leadership Network as the 2022 recipient of the WPLN Daniel Anthony Award. The award is named for Susan B. Anthony’s father, who was an ardent supporter of her efforts, and is meant to celebrate a man who has given critical support to a female public leader or leaders. Rieger is a partner at the law firm Adams and Reese in Baton Rouge. St. James Place has been honored by the American College of Health Care Administrators with the 2022 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award. The award is a recognition of distinction, using data-driven criteria to objectively identify high-performing skilled
nursing facilities and the leaders who help them excel. Only 3% of facilities nationwide qualify. The leadership award will be presented March 22 in New Orleans during the annual ACHCA convocation and exposition. Two LSU faculty members have been elected to the newest class of the American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellows. Zakiya Wilson-Kennedy and Samuel Bentley are among those to receive this distinct honor within the scientific community this year. WilsonKennedy is an associate professor of research in chemistry education and the assistant dean for diversity and inclusion within the LSU College of Science. Bentley serves as vice president of the LSU Office of Research & Economic Development and is the Billy and Ann Harrison chair in sedimentary geology.
