Volume 35 Issue 24

Let’s Go, Girls

Before we started planning my bachelorette trip, I had one non-negotiable: My mom was coming. I could imagine it in no other way. If it’s a trip for your best friends, then my mom was and is certainly a prime candidate.

From the moment we sat down at the airport bar at 5 a.m. on a Thursday, I knew I had made the right choice. My mom and my best friend Marit’s mom, Denise, were joining us. And not only are they so much fun, but they are moms. And if moms are around, nothing goes wrong.

Our weekend in Miami was serendipitous. Not because we were celebrating my upcoming nuptials—I’m not really a “wear a veil with a bathing suit” kind of girl. But because we were together having fun without the fear of adult responsibility, because, need I remind you, our moms were there.

Now that I am a mom, it makes me laugh to think that my kids, no matter how old, would think I had some Avengerslike control over the situations, and possible dangers, around us. But that’s what moms are for, right? Maybe I just haven’t reached my final mom form. After all, my kids are just 4- and 2-years-old.

From the bars to the boat to the beach bar, our moms stayed by our sides, buying drinks, ordering necessary food, and cheering us on. Problems were nonexistent with our moms as part of the party. And they had a positive impact on us, too. We packed sandwiches for that boat ride. We checked to ensure we had water bottles before heading down to the pool. And not one of us went home sunburnt. A true miracle that could only be performed by a mother.

Reflecting on this magical weekend, I can only think of how thankful I am to my mom and Mrs. Denise for joining us, guiding us and making sure we had the time of our lives.

If there is one bit of advice you take away from this issue, it is to do just this: invite your mom, aunt or grandmother on your bachelorette trip. There is joy in being with your best friends, but you will never have more fun than you will with your mom and your best friend’s mom. Yes, that is overly specific. But, I think I just might be right.

Looking forward,

Hidden Gem

While Adele Poché wasn’t completely shocked when her long-time boyfriend, Luke Andrews, proposed—the couple had been to look at rings a few months prior—she was surprised that he was able to get all of their family and friends together. “Both of my sisters and Luke’s sister live out of state, and they were all there for the engagement,” she says.

“It was challenging finding a date that worked for everyone in both of our families,” Luke explains. He says it was Adele’s mom who sparked the perfect idea: a proposal in St. Anthony’s Garden followed by a private room at Tableau filled with their favorite people. The garden is a hidden gem of New Orleans, gated and tucked away behind St. Louis Cathedral. The couple’s New Orleans wedding is set for November 22 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor with a reception to follow at the Board of Trade.

TIE THE KNOT

Fig & Dove wreath sashes are for more than the front door. On a bridal bouquet, a monogrammed sash adds a sentimental detail showcasing the bride’s new name, and the accessories can easily be customized to cover the all-important “something blue” requirement. Following the “I dos,” the sash becomes a thoughtful addition to the newlyweds’ home, creating a keepsake for them to display for years to come. figanddove.com

SHINE BRIGHT

Wedding design is getting brighter with the use of candles. These are not your grandma’s tea lights, though. With the help of specialized vendors like Truly Haute, brides can bring their completely custom visions to life, whether through colored tapers, sparkling glass holders or winding staircase displays. It’s all about ambiance, and as day turns to evening, reception scenes are set a-glitter with the use of flickering flames. trulyhaute.com

Late -Night Wedding Snacks

Call them late-night nibbles to absorb libations, or generous send-off snacks, but a final nosh at the end of a wedding reception has become a thing.

“It’s just a very nice way to be hospitable at the end of an event when people are leaving,” says Lisa Boudreaux, owner of high-end caterer Gilded Artichoke Catering Co. So, what to serve? After the luxurious

tablescapes that typically define a reception, it’s nice to have something light-hearted and fun, like sliders and fries, Boudreaux says. These can be arranged on a separate buffet or as elegantly wrapped grab-and-go packages. The final flourish also serves as a parting gift, Boudreaux notes.

“It’s just a beautiful way to end things,” she says. “And it also keeps your guests from having to stop at Waffle House.”

intage fashion has had a resurgence in the last decade, but Mary Catherine Joiner

Rogillio has always loved the sustainable, unique styles of the past, starting with her 1960s senior prom dress sourced from local vintage store Time Warp.

Fast forward a few years to the quaint town of Monaghan, Ireland, where Mary Catherine was on vacation with her mother, Mary Frances Barrilleaux. There, Mary Catherine’s vintage dress dreams came true when she found an empirewaist white gown from 1969. “I knew I wanted something different for my wedding dress, and I love Audrey Hepburn and her movies,” she says. “When I saw it, I immediately said, ‘That looks just like the dress she wore in War and Peace.’”

Mary Catherine is a longtime fan of the shop where she found her dress, Dirty Fabulous Vintage. The sisters who own the shop mainly source pieces from historical collections, including collections from museums, costumes from movie sets and more. And after following along with the sisters and the store online for years, Mary Catherine’s trip offered the perfect opportunity to finally visit in person.

“I was always skeptical of the wedding dress saying, ‘when you know, you know,’ but it’s very real,” she says. “We had to rework the dress some, but I was incredibly lucky to find Emily Camtu Couture, who did an amazing job with the alterations.”

other half and apply it to the lace around the neck and at the bottom of the dress so that everything would blend seamlessly.

“I was the flower girl in her wedding, and I had her daughter in my wedding, so it was a special, full circle moment,” Mary Catherine says. “All she knew was that we were using it for scraps, and when she saw the finished dress on the wedding day, she couldn’t believe it.”

Mary Catherine’s other wedding weekend looks also find their origin in other decades. The week before her wedding, she sourced an early 2000s slip dress for the rehearsal dinner. And to get ready the morning of the big day, she found a 1970s silk slip dress and matching robe on eBay. For Mary Catherine, the pieces are more than just outfits. Each item pays homage to the past and adds even more stories and sentimentality to a wedding day.

GULF HILLS

THE DESTINATION WEDDING VENUE YOU DIDN’T KNOW WAS THIS CLOSE

Tucked away in scenic Ocean Springs, Mississippi, just a two-hour drive from Baton Rouge, lies a wedding destination like no other. Gulf Hills Hotel & Resort, part of the Rain Travel Collection, is a lovingly restored hotel where Southern hospitality, rich history and modern amenities come together to create an unforgettable experience for couples and their guests.

Established in 1927, Gulf Hills has welcomed its share of legends — from Elvis Presley to Al Capone — and its timeless charm continues to attract those seeking a venue that’s as unique as their love story. Towering oaks, a peaceful bayou backdrop and original features like a 9-foot-deep swimming pool set the stage for a weekend that feels both magical and personal.

What makes Gulf Hills especially appealing for Baton Rouge brides is the ease of getting there — it’s a short drive that offers all the benefits of a destination wedding without the hassles of air travel. Once on-site, couples can opt to buy out the entire hotel, turning their celebration into a private retreat where friends and family can stay, celebrate and make memories together, all in one place. With 52 guest rooms and five suites, including the ever-popular Elvis Suite, there’s space for everyone to relax and enjoy the weekend. The resort’s layout gives wedding parties the perfect balance of togetherness and privacy, and the recently updated accommodations ensure guests feel right at home.

Weddings at Gulf Hills are more than just events — they’re heartfelt experiences. Couples can choose from stunning indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, like the majestic oak tree lawn by the water or the newly renovated ballroom. The in-house team offers coordination and planning support, beverage services with customizable menus, and everything from room blocks to rentals,

making the entire process seamless.

“Our goal is to take the stress off couples so they can focus on the joy of the moment,” says Mary Katherine Filipich, the hotel’s director of sales. “We treat every wedding like it’s the most important one we’ve ever hosted — because to that couple, it is.”

And when the festivities wind down, guests can gather at the Sunset Lounge, Gulf Hills’ vibrant on-site bar that blends vintage charm with a modern twist. With an eclectic cocktail menu and ever-changing happy hour specials, it’s the perfect place to toast to love, laughter and the start of something beautiful.

For Filipich, one of the most memorable celebrations hosted at Gulf Hills featured a groom whose mother had been married at the same venue decades earlier — a powerful reminder of the deep connections the hotel fosters. The couple’s Gulf Coast roots and

ties to Mardi Gras shone through in a vibrant Second Line celebration that brought generations together under one roof, echoing with laughter, music and meaning.

“The energy, the emotion, the family history – it all came together in such a personal and unforgettable way,” she says. “It’s weddings like that that remind me why I love what I do.”

At Gulf Hills, it’s not just about a beautiful backdrop — it’s about becoming part of a couple’s story. For Baton Rouge brides looking for something fresh, personal and effortlessly elegant, this hidden gem on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is the perfect place to begin forever.

WHEN IT COMES TO BRIDAL PORTRAITS, THE VENUE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. SOUTH LOUISIANA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS DISH ON THEIR FAVORITE PLACES TO CAPTURE TIMELESS BRIDAL MOMENTS.

“I love The Gilmour for a million reasons. Not only is the property well maintained and the home just beautiful, with insane natural light, but it’s also in a great location that has a rain plan already built in. Our weather in Baton Rouge can often be super tricky to work around, but places like The Gilmour are foolproof and provide a reliable indoor space that only makes the sessions more enjoyable.”

- Eric Garcia, Geauxgarcia Photography

“While I’ve photographed weddings at countless beautiful locations over the past 15-plus years, what consistently stands out to me are spaces with a clean, simple aesthetic—think white, bright, and airy— with moments of interest like wallpaper, texture or architectural detail.”

- Catherine Guidry, Catherine Guidry Photography

“If you’re looking for vast, well-kept gardens and a private bridal suite, you really can’t beat Longue Vue House & Gardens. The home was built in the early 1920s and is currently a museum, but mostly you can find year-round flowers, fountains and breathtaking architecture.”

- Juliana Polkey, Peony Photography

“The Old Governor’s Mansion is one of my favorite bridal portrait spots because of its architecture and design. The variety of indoor and outdoor options makes it perfect for any season.”

“The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah are a gorgeous, serene location—especially during sunrise or sunset. Doing photos at a destination location offers you the opportunity to get pictures in a different location than your venue, with unique scenery that you wouldn’t find in Louisiana—and you could even throw your partner in them to get full wedding portraits!”

“SOMETHING OLD AND something new” may be part of a classic good luck tradition for weddings, but as a job description, it perfectly suits Marissa McKey’s personality, too.

“The foundation of what I do physically with cosmetics stays the same, but it’s always new clients and new locations,” says the makeup artist who once thought she wanted to be a veterinarian. “This turned out to be the perfect mix for a career for me.”

After returning home from a Disney internship at 18, the Denham Springs native started working for a popular beauty retailer at the Mall of Louisiana. A few years later, she completed her cosmetology training and had repeat customers asking if they could book her privately for their events.

“I was not interested at all in makeup in high school,” says McKey.

“I was into singing, writing songs and poetry. But once I went out on my own as a makeup artist, I just knew it was the right path for me.”

Contrary to some Southern trends, McKey sidesteps overly done makeup application, preferring a softer, more timeless look.

“I’ve never liked the pageant vibe or really harsh and heavy makeup,” McKey says. “Most brides book us because they want our specific look.”

Celebrating a decade of her career this month, McKey is highly active and personable on social media, where she initially interacts with and gets to know most new clients. She has also built out a team of 12, offering hair and makeup services for ceremonies across South Louisiana and destination weddings far beyond. This spring her team worked a wedding in the British

Virgin Islands.

“It’s an emotionally and physically demanding job,” says McKey, who books multiple weddings on weekends, spending 45 minutes with wedding party members and 90 minutes with each bride. “If you’re solo, there’s kind of a ceiling for how much you can do.”

Collaboration has been key to McKey growing and expanding her artistry, but the heart of her creative career lies in one-on-one interactions, where the confidence her cosmetic magic instills in her clients and the memories she helps them create are at the forefront. “You can do the best makeup job all day, but if you’re not personable and kind and you don’t connect with the client, that’s what they are going to remember,” McKey says. “And you want every one of their memories of that day to be sweet ones.”

AIMEE’S PRETTY PALATE

Lavender Fields Forever

Several years ago, my husband and I spent our anniversary in France, where I convinced myself that by taking an authentic macaron class at the ever-popular Le Foodist in Paris, I would return to Louisiana having mastered the skills rivaling those spending their days among the kitchens of Ladurée. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that is not exactly what happened.

What did happen, however, was my first experience infusing flavor from fresh lavender into the filling of a delicate lemon-flavored macaron. It was then that I learned lavender’s floral flavor profile also embodies a bit of mint and lemon, making a delightful pairing.

While I was thinking about what I would write for this month’s wedding-inspired issue, I discovered, almost accidentally, that while lavender is most associated with its calming fragrance (and for its assumed ability to ward off mosquitos if we’re keeping things real), it also carries symbolic meaning of purity and devotion that brings a sense of elegance and serenity to floral arrangements.

And then it hit me, allow lavender and all its loveliness to be the star of this column.

A Lavender Simple Syrup recipe you can make at home will be used two ways, but the recipe is so versatile that you don’t have to stop at lemonade and cocktails, you can also add it in your morning coffee, sparkling water or even in

savory dishes—though I haven’t tried that yet. I’ve opted to use culinary-grade lavender buds, but you can certainly use fresh buds if they are available.

Ideal for a bridal shower, Lavender Lemonade is fragrant, refreshing and a beautiful variation to simple lemonade. The slight herbal addition will be subtle yet noticeable in all the right ways. The same can also be said for bringing the floral vibes with the Lavender French 75, a twist on the classic French 75. Made with the same Lavender Simple Syrup recipe, it is crisp and delightful. For a truer lavender-hued cocktail, especially come fall in Baton Rouge, pick up some Empress 1908 gin. Cheers!

Lavender Simple Syrup

2 Tbsp. dried culinary-grade lavender buds

1½ cups sugar

1 cup water

2-3 fresh blueberries, optional (see note below)

In a saucepan, combine lavender buds and water over medium-high heat. Bring mixture to a slight boil, then add sugar. Lower heat and stir until sugar is fully dissolved. Reduce heat even further and allow mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes.

Turn off heat and allow lavender to steep for an additional 20 minutes as it cools. Taste, and if needed, allow it to sit for another 15-20 minutes or until desired strength is achieved. (I find 20 minutes is sufficient for a subtle lavender taste.)

Strain lavender using a fine wire mesh strainer or dampened cheesecloth into a clean glass jar.

Storage: Syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and used within 2 weeks.

Note: The blueberries are optional, but I found that they give a hint of natural color. Toss a couple into the mixture as it simmers, then gently press when you are straining if they haven’t opened up and released some color.

Makes 1¼ cups.

Lavender Lemonade

6 cups water

1 cup Lavender Simple Syrup

2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 8-10 lemons)

Lemon slices, fresh lavender sprigs, optional garnish

Combine all ingredients into a pitcher. Garnish with a lemon slice or fresh lavender sprig. Makes 6-8 servings.

Lavender French 75 Cocktail

1½ oz. gin

1 oz. Lavender Simple Syrup

1 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice

12 oz. Champagne/prosecco Fresh lavender sprig, lemon twist, optional garnish

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add gin, lavender syrup and lemon juice.

Place lid on top of shaker, and shake until well combined.

Strain into Champagne flutes or other desired glasses, and top with 6 oz. Champagne each. Garnish with lavender or a lemon twist to serve.

Makes 2 servings.

HOW TO TAKE A REHEARSAL DINNER FROM AN AFTERTHOUGHT TO A HALLMARK OF THE WEDDING WEEKEND BY RILEY BIENVENU BOURGEOIS

PHOTOS BY ANNA BABIN PHOTOGRAPHY

Maggie and Caleb Passman’s entire wedding weekend was hosted at Infinity Farms in Carriere, Mississippi. The sprawling venue offers plenty of different spaces to host the events, allowing this rehearsal to feel like a natural extension of the wedding reception. Another detail tying the two events together was the food, with catering provided by Gilded Artichoke Catering Co.

The stress of wedding planning is no secret. However, rehearsal dinners are the underthe-radar event just waiting to wreak havoc, usually in the final stretch of the planning process.

Hosted on the eve of the wedding day following the ceremony rehearsal, the responsibilities for this dinner traditionally fall to the groom and his family. In theory, this separation of financial and logistical stress makes sense. But in the world of intricate bridal visions, this division of events is easier in theory than in practice.

“The rehearsal is often the first impression people have of a wedding weekend,” explains event designer Angela DiVincenti Babin of Angela Marie Events. “Brides want it to fit with the flow of the weekend and make sense conceptually, and that requires everyone to be on the same page.”

Rather than relinquish all control, Angela advises brides to join forces with the groom’s family in order to make decisions that benefit everyone. For example, floral arrangements used for the rehearsal, if in keeping with the wedding vision, can be reused the following day, preventing floral waste and saving money on wedding-day flowers. In Maggie and Caleb Passman’s Italian-inspired rehearsal pictured here, table arrangements were reused the next day on the reception bars.

Beyond the flowers, though, Angela advises that the biggest way brides can help is by sharing their planning wisdom. While they often spend months in the weeds of wedding preparations, the groom, in many cases, does not. Because of this, brides are more intimately familiar with the challenges that come with event execution. Namely, logistics.

“It really is invaluable to have someone else to handle everything while you enjoy the weekend with friends and family,” Angela notes. “You don’t want to have to step away

“I wanted everything to be colorful and lively but still elegant,” Maggie says. “I loved my wedding colors and wanted to use them the whole weekend.”

To bring Maggie’s vision to life, Angela and her team used bright florals, a yellow embroidered linen from Nuage Designs and plenty of real fruit. Menus and other paper details were designed by Fleur Art & Designs, and the furniture was rented

“I wanted an intimate Italian family-style dinner,” Maggie explains. “It was perfect to have everyone outside at one long table with the string lights and candles.”

from the actual rehearsal or any other moments to set up tables or light candles.”

In the end, everyone wants a picture-perfect weekend free of stress and full of love, and the easiest way to achieve that is through clear communication. Approach the planning process, and the weekend, with an open mind—and maybe a few Pinterest boards—and everyone is sure to win in the end.

“The most important thing is to communicate and keep everyone on the same page,” says Maggie. “My mother-in-law came with us to meet with Angela and contribute to the planning process. It helped all of us to see the vision and all the details that would go into our dream rehearsal dinner. It is a night that we will cherish forever.”

A hot-pink bar and pair of white lamps with striped shades were the finishing touches on the event space, pulling together the lively, Italian-inspired theme.

So Hard to Find the Words

A MOTHER’S REFLECTION ON HER DAUGHTER’S WEDDING DAY

In the blink of an eye, it has happened. I thought I would be able to handle my emotions, but it’s harder than I imagined. Is there a word that describes feeling happy, proud and sad all at the same time? Is there a word for this feeling that my heart is about to burst? Everyone here, our family and friends, see a lovely woman walking down the aisle, but in my eyes and in my mind, I can only see my little girl …

I chose the name Victoria as soon as I learned I was having a girl. It is a family name, and I wanted to carry on the tradition. It suited you when you pranced around in your princess gowns, but with two older brothers, you were also a bit of a tomboy, and “Tori” suited you just as well. I learned immediately that having a daughter is a special kind of wonderful. As a new mom, I couldn’t take my eyes off you. You were just so beautiful, and I could hardly believe you were

mine. When you were about 3 years old, I lay in bed one Sunday afternoon, and when you asked me why, I said I wasn’t feeling well. You walked out of the room and minutes later, came back in with your little tea set and gave me an imaginary cup of “medicine.” Then you crawled into bed with me to cuddle until we fell asleep. It’s just one of a million memories that cross my mind and make me smile.

Over the years, we spent thousands of hours at dance recitals, soccer games and Little Theater productions. There was rarely a quiet moment between us because we talked about everything. You used to sit at the kitchen counter while I cooked dinner, sharing every detail of your school day and all the dramas swirling around your classmates. We shared a love of books, old movies, tiramisu, the soundtracks to Wicked and Jersey Boys and day trips to New Orleans. We cried like babies at the series finale of Lost—something we couldn’t do in front of anyone but each other.

Somehow, we skipped over those “difficult” years many moms and daughters experience— we just became better friends. At unexpected moments, I’d feel a lump in my throat as I realized how fast time was racing by, how quickly you were growing up. I was often amazed at how kind and smart and confident you had become. It was hard to acknowledge that you would someday leave home, go to college, get married and have your own family.

And here we are. There is so much I want to say, but the words don’t come easily. A cool breeze floats through the air, and the sun sets against a clear blue Tennessee sky. You are radiant and joyful with a life full of promise ahead of you.

You are creating a new bond today with your husband, but the bond between you and me can never be broken. It has carried us through sad and happy times. It has brought us strength, friendship, laughter and joy. It is pure, it is strong, it is ours … and it is forever.

Sweet TALK

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR DELIVERING A PERFECT WEDDING TOAST

If you’ve been asked to give a wedding speech, you know it’s as much of an honor as it is nerve-racking. Whether you’re the best man, maid of honor or a proud parent, speaking in front of a crowd on such an emotional day can feel overwhelming. “You don’t get picked for these talks because you’re great at public speaking,” says Abbey Lovett, a conversation coach and founder of Pathos Coaching. You’re asked to give a speech because you are a valued family member or friend of the bride and groom, and you want to do your best. With these thoughtful tips from Lovett, you can be confident that you will deliver a speech that’s memorable and meaningful.

Check the Vibe

Know your audience, and when in doubt, ask the bride, advises Lovett. While those crazy college stories may be fun to reminisce on, they’re probably not appropriate for a wedding toast. “Figure out if there is an expectation for your speech to be heartfelt or hilarious, because it’s usually one or the other, maybe a little bit of a combination of both,” she says. And while you’re asking, get an estimate on how much time you have. “No one likes a rambler when they’re ready to get to the dance floor,” Lovett adds.

Think it Through

While a word-for-word script isn’t necessary, some prep work certainly is, especially if you plan to tell a story or two. “With storytelling, you think you have all the information, but then once you start telling the story, all these extra facts come in, or you can’t remember the timeline, or you’re backtracking,” Lovett says. “So before you go up and tell a story, practice telling it to another guest at the bachelorette party or at one of the showers.” It’s key to strike a balance between being intentional without overpreparing. Opt for bullet points if you feel like you have to bring a piece of paper, Lovett says.

Expect the Unexpected

Weddings can bring tears to even the most stone-faced among us. Even if you’re not usually a crier, it’s wise to have a backup plan—like a lighthearted story—to pivot to if emotions start to take over. “Don’t try to hide that you’re getting emotional,” Lovett advises. “Bring it to light and laugh it off a little bit. And if you’re having a really hard time regulating, try breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth two or three times before you start trying to talk again.”

Shake it Off

It’s totally natural to feel nervous. If you can, get on the dance floor or mingle with guests you haven’t met ahead of your speech to loosen up a bit. “Trick your nervous system into being excited,” Lovett says. “And this may be controversial, but I am all about grabbing yourself a glass of liquid courage–one glass does help take the edge off.”

REAL WEDDINGS

Happily Ever After

Danielle Cavalier and Coleman Glass were destined for each other—from friends setting them up to matching on Hinge on their own, fate would have these two end up together. “I had heard of this ‘perfect guy’ for over a year from a friend determined to set us up, and as fate would have it, we matched on Hinge independently,” Danielle says, explaining that life got busy and their conversation naturally faded. About a month later, the same wellintentioned friend orchestrated what Danielle now recognizes as a beautifully crafted setup, and they had their first date the next weekend. “Looking back now, I can’t help but smile at how the universe conspired—through dating apps, persistent friends and even a global pandemic—to bring us exactly where we were meant to be,” Danielle says. UNDER the OAKS

BENEATH THE LARGEST TREE AT AFTON VILLA GARDENS, KAMERYN BYRD AND JAKE PELLEGRIN CELEBRATED THE START OF THEIR NEXT CHAPTER

• PHOTOGRAPHY BY PEONY PHOTOGRAPHY

It seems like a simple enough request, especially in South Louisiana: Get married under a large oak tree. After all, the historic trees seem to stretch their sprawling branches across the state. However, when Kameryn Byrd and Jake Pellegrin began their search for the perfect oak under which to say, “I do,” the request proved more difficult than they anticipated.

“We looked all over Baton Rouge,” Kameryn recalls. “I knew it was out there; we just had to find it.”

With the help of planner Angela DiVincenti Babin of Angela Marie Events, the couple ventured out of Baton Rouge’s city limits and turned their attention to St. Francisville. Finally, the search was over after the couple set foot on the Afton Villa Gardens property.

“When we were driving down the driveway, I hadn’t even seen the tree yet, but I just knew,” Kameryn says. “It felt meant to be.”

Finding the perfect tree was just the beginning, though. Once the venue was secured, only six weeks remained until the big day. Vague save-the-dates had been sent out to guests detailing the season the wedding would be held, but now it was time to get down to specifics.

Rather than a typical party-all-night reception,

Kameryn and Jake imagined their reception as an extension of their typical milestone celebrations, which always consist of dinner together. But rather than small groups of friends and family seated at separate tables, Kameryn’s vision was of everyone at one table, dining beneath the stars.

“I’ve had this in mind since I was a kid,” she says. “It just always made sense to me.”

To bring her dream to life, Angela designed a serpentine table layout, rather than one long table, to add a dose of whimsical interest and to create more opportunities for conversations. From there, Angela took Kameryn’s request for timeless and traditional and worked to create a scene that felt at home within the lush gardens.

“You want to use your venue, rather than try to fight it,” Angela says. “You want to make it come alive.”

To achieve this, Angela utilized a simple color palette of white and shades of green. Statuesque vases were a natural extension to the towering sculptures that are dotted throughout the venue’s grounds. Green chinoiserie vases from Williams Sonoma were added to the table, and overhead, bistro lights were installed to create the illusion of stars. Finishing touches were added with plenty of candles and bud vases.

Dinner under the stars with family and friends all at one table was Kameryn’s wedding dream since she was little. Thanks to a sudden stop to the week’s heavy rain, the dinner went ahead unincumbered by a tent.

“It was nice to see everyone enjoying the dinner together, and the table was glowing—it felt like a fairytale,” Kameryn says. “And it was the best steak I’ve ever had.”

With all of this magic in the air, guests were none the wiser that this set-up was not the original plan. The week leading up to the wedding day was filled with nonstop rain. Knowing the ground would be soaked, Angela made the decision to relocate the reception to higher ground. And with rain forecasted on the big day as well, it was time to rethink that dinner under the stars.

“To this day, I don’t understand the miracle, but it only drizzled— it was supposed to be pouring,” Angela recalls. “So we were able to have the dinner as Kameryn imagined it.”

A stroke of luck, or possibly a divine blessing, the favorable weather was the icing on the cake of a day filled with so much love.

“For me, the moment that still stands out to me is standing up there and getting married,” Kameryn says. “Actually saying our vows to one another, I remember thinking, ‘I can’t believe this is happening.’ The whole day was a dream.”

Due to the forecast of rain, a sail tent was added over the reception space. “It just added to the magic, though, in the end,” Angela says.

“My dad married us,” Kameryn says. “I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it.”

MARIAH CLAYTON AND JUSTIN HUTCHINSON CELEBRATE THEIR LOVE AS THE FIRST COUPLE MARRIED AT GALVEZ RUM DISTILLERY

More than most, Mariah Clayton and Justin Hutchinson know that everything works out how it’s supposed to, and their wedding was no exception. Soon after getting engaged, Mariah began the process of finding the perfect venue, but even after hours of scrolling and site tours, none felt like the one. Then, a timely text from a friend sent the couple on their way to tour Galvez Rum Distillery in Jackson, Louisiana. “As soon as we pulled up, we both said, ‘Oh my gosh,’” Mariah recalls.

It checked all of the boxes and then some with a fully outdoor venue, fine architectural details and a nod to Justin’s Jamaican heritage. When you know, you know.

They set a wedding date for March 2025, and it became official: the Hutchinsons would be the first couple to get married at Galvez Rum Distillery.

“I don’t like to do what everybody else does,” Mariah says, reflecting on the decision. “I like to be a trendsetter. So I wanted a venue that was not super popular or well known.”

In that same spirit, she took the lead on planning the wedding herself. As Miss Louisiana 2020 and a Miss USA semi-finalist, she’s no stranger to picking the perfect gown, hairstyle and makeup—and she’s no stranger to lighting up a room with her radiant confidence.

“On my wedding day, I knew that I wanted to look like an elevated version of myself, because I’ve already done the glam. I’ve done sparkles. I’ve done the drama. I wanted to be timeless,” she says. With that same clear vision—and the support of her sister, Shelby Patterson, and Nana, Catherine Clayton, when she needed it, she embraced the challenge of designing a day that felt personal and unforgettable, taking on most of the preparation, coordination and décor herself.

Long before Mariah began planning a wedding or even met her husband, she knew she would use Something Borrowed Blooms when her big day came. The Lafayette business called on her for one of the first photoshoots of her modeling career, and she immediately loved the idea of silk floral rentals.

“It is the most genius idea,” she says. “You can mix and match from their flower collections to cater to your needs. They look realistic, and I loved being able to pack them in a box and send them back.”

As the day drew closer, Mariah enlisted the help of day-of coordinator and longtime friend Elise Gipson, founder of The Experience by EG, to help tie up loose ends and ensure everything would run smoothly.

“Something Borrowed Blooms provided an assistant day-of coordinator, and we just had to make sure we paid a little more attention to detail since everything was DIY,” Elise explains. “And since this was the venue’s first wedding, making sure there was alignment on expectations of the ebbs and flows with their staff and us.”

Despite initial worries about the weather, the Hutchinsons said “I do” on March 22, 2025, beneath a beaming sun, surrounded by loved ones. With her signature poise and hands-on spirit, Mariah brought her vision to life in every detail, creating a celebration that was as personal, meaningful and one-of-akind as it was beautiful.

A SISTER REFLECTS ON THE VIBRANT SYMBOLISM OF HER TWIN BROTHER’S WEDDING DAY BY

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ELISE AND EMILY BARBIN

EFORE THEIR WEDDING, my twin brother Ethan and his then-fiancée Samhita Rao asked me to read a passage during their civil ceremony. Besides no Corinthians and no Shakespeare, the only parameters were to find a piece that represented them to me. After a few weeks of skimming through my book collection and making my way through about 132 pages of The Poetry Foundation’s website, I landed on “Colors Passing Through Us” by Marge Piercy.

The poem recalls the small joys that tint a life built together. A stanza “purple as the stain blackberries leave on the lips,” matches a perennial memory from our South

Louisiana childhood; while “orange as my cat running lithe through the high grass” made me think of Samhita’s cat Sunshine, who, with a marigold spot on her back, relishes in her daily roll in the backyard clovers.

Piercy also mentions the red of henna, with which “women color each other on hands and on feet.” Little did I know in February how resonant that line would become. Now, I’ll always associate the color red with Samhita’s bridal henna, a tapestry of classic Indian designs melded with motifs of New Orleans wrought iron and images from Cajun quilt patterns.

Among the vibrant hues present over the three-day celebration of marriage bouquets, silks, dishes and décor in crimson red, royal blue, chartreuse, lavender, carnation pink it’s a much subtler palette that lingers in my mind. I think of the white mare Ethan processed in on, with generations of Barbins and Raos, friends and loved ones parading Samhita’s bridal henna blended her

two worlds, with traditional Indian imagery intertwined with New Orleans and Cajun elements.

behind him. I think of the sage green of the Spanish moss hanging from City Park’s ancient oaks. I think of the silver safety pins that held tight the drape of our dupattas for hours on end. I think of Saturday’s heavy-bottomed gray clouds, which held their weight until the moment we sent off the newlyweds. A wet knot is harder to untie, after all.

A few guests sought me over the course of the reception to tell me how much the reading resonated with them, identifying their own associations between the poem and the happy couple. Writing this essay a few months later, I think of the innumerable colors Ethan and Samhita will collect in their lifetime together, and how many more lines will continue to ring true to us, those lucky enough to know them.

HOUSE PARTY

FAMILY AND FRIENDS WERE AT THE CENTER OF THIS VIBRANT WEDDING RECEPTION HELD IN THE BACKYARD OF BRIDE EMMA CLARK’S CHILDHOOD HOME BY SALLY GRACE CAGLE • PHOTOGRAPHY BY GEAUXGARCIA

There’s no place like home. And with this motto in mind, Baton Rougeborn and raised bride, Emma Clark, brought guests to the backyard of her childhood home, creating her ideal wedding reception venue.

After her sister, Sarah Holder, had her wedding reception there in December 2022, Emma fell in love with the idea. When it came time to plan her own wedding to Michael Reeves, she knew that no other location could compare.

“It was a blast being in a place where we’re both so comfortable,” she says. “We have so many memories there already, so having the biggest day of our lives there as well was perfect.”

Emma enlisted the help of wedding planner Amy Hazel Shrader of Amy Hazel Events, who specializes in non-venue buildouts like Emma envisioned for her reception.

“If you have a beautiful backyard, there’s no reason not to use it—especially if it’s going to be sentimental,” Amy says. “We’re able to be a lot more creative and really

give the couple and family everything they want with no restrictions.”

For Emma and Michael, enjoying their special day with those who mean the most, surrounded by vibrant décor in a comfortable atmosphere, with great food, drinks and entertainment, was the main goal.

“They are a really fun couple,” Amy says. “So we tried to focus on the feeling of the party, and just making sure it was a great time for everyone.”

With help from rental company Party Central out of Lafayette, the backyard was prepared to host around 300 guests, featuring a reception tent situated just off the back porch that spanned most of the backyard and acrylic flooring covering the pool, with the water below reflecting off the lights.

“I wanted the outside to still feel cozy—like an extension of the home,” Emma says. “Sometimes receptions can feel really stiff and formal. I wanted people to feel like they were just partying at home.”

“She wanted something that would be memorable and unique,” Amy adds. “She had such amazing ideas, and a beautiful color palette already picked out.”

Hummingbird Floral Studio brought the vibrant vision to life with fun flower arrangements, and the colorful décor continued with yards of ribbon hanging from a chandelier, candlesticks, the entryway and more—an idea Amy says they had very early on.

“I’m a person who knows what they like, so with the help of Amy, planning was really easy,” Emma says. “I don’t have a girly personality, but I have very girly taste.”

Because the reception was held at her childhood home, the whole atmosphere was sentimental, but there were also plenty of extra-special pieces used throughout the reception.

“All of the candles used were her mom’s from her house, as well as a lot of the trays, dishes, tables and more,” Amy says. “It was really special that we used so much of this beautiful home and the pieces from it to create these looks.”

Family, friends and a fun, comfortable atmosphere made this backyard wedding reception a hit among guests, and Emma says it was all about the people around them the whole day that made it so enjoyable. “We made sure it was a day we would remember for the rest of our lives because of those we were surrounded by,” she says.

FROM PARADISE,

WITH LOVE PARADISE,

Peyton Hendricks AND Jude Franklin’s

DESTINATION WEDDING BROUGHT ROMANCE AND REVELRY TO THE SANDS OF PUERTO VALLARTA

For Peyton Hendricks and Jude Franklin, a destination wedding felt like a natural part of their love story. The couple met while attending the University of Miami, and with Peyton’s roots in Florida, Jude’s in Baton Rouge, and large families spread from coast to coast, they wanted their wedding to be much more than a ceremony. Together, they envisioned a thoughtfully curated weekend filled with connection, joy and unforgettable moments—though by Jude’s own admission, much of the planning was left to Peyton and wedding planner, Elana Walker of Elana Events.

“For me, everything was a surprise. I wasn’t exactly the head planner,” he says with a laugh. “But we knew wherever it was going to be, some people would have to travel, so we decided early on to do a destination wedding.”

Peyton quickly honed in on her vision for their celebration: a classic, traditional and timeless June wedding with tropical flair. “I want to look back 50 years later and still like everything,” she says. And the destination had to meet one major requirement. “I knew I wanted to be

Hear from HIM & HER

What is your favorite thing about one another?

Peyton: Jude is the funniest person I know! He always makes me laugh and keeps me on my toes. He is consistent, loyal, caring and dedicated to our relationship and others.

Jude: Peyton is beautiful inside and out. She is endlessly patient and caring and is always so supportive of myself, friends and family.

How did you know he/she was the one?

P: I knew Jude was the one the moment we became friends. However, the defining moment was when he stood by my side during the unexpected loss of my mother when we had only been dating two months. Having his support during my grief meant the world to me.

J: I knew Peyton was the one early on in our dating. The way she carried herself and how we were able to connect so easily just felt right to me.

What is one detail that stands out when you think back on your wedding day?

P: The fireworks during the Champagne tower pour was like a movie! We had a lot of fun doing that and our guests were so surprised. I also have to mention the second line at the end of the wedding. It was an unforgettable way to end a festive night.

J: When I think back on our wedding, the amount of family and friends that came to celebrate our special day with us stands out to me.

by an ocean,” she says. “That was a favorite place for my mom and me to go together.” Peyton’s late mother, Michelle, passed away in 2020. “The ocean was something that I wanted to have to feel close to her.”

After reviewing a few options selected by Elana, the couple chose Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort in Banderas Bay near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, because the resort could accommodate their 130 guests and had plenty of restaurants and amenities in a tropical setting with a ceremony location overlooking the ocean.

“Location is everything,” Elana says of bringing Peyton’s vision of timeless with tropical flair to life for the June 1, 2024 wedding. “As long as the surroundings give you that tropical vibe, then doing white flowers and keeping it classic will instantly blend the two.”

For Peyton, the most emotional moments of the weekend weren’t the ones she expected. She anticipated a good cry while getting ready with her bridesmaids—a time she imagined would be filled with emotion, especially with her mother’s absence. But in the end, standing at the altar with Jude moved her most. “I was surprisingly calm all day, no tears,” she said.

“But being there with him, that’s when it really hit me.”

Following emotional toasts from loved ones, and to kick off the dancing, guests were treated to an over-the-top fireworks display, a special request from Peyton’s father, Alfred Hendricks. Hidden behind a tree line, the fireworks lit up the sky for several minutes. “I was thinking backyard fireworks,” Jude laughs. “But this was a real production.”

The dazzling spectacle also created a memorable mishap.

As Peyton and Jude began their Champagne tower pour, they were awestruck by the fireworks behind them, and, in the excitement, they over-poured the bubbly, causing the tower to collapse mid-pour.

“But no one even noticed,” Peyton recalls. “We got Champagne everywhere, but thankfully, everyone was watching the fireworks.”

The evening ended with a nod to Jude’s Creole roots, with his father, Perry Franklin, taking the microphone to announce, “We’re about to do things New Orleans style.”

Jude’s uncle, Peregrin Joel Franklin, owner of Peregrin’s Florist and Home Interiors, handed the couple umbrellas he had handmade, as guests waved custom handkerchiefs and followed the newlyweds out of the reception in a traditional

Ahead of the wedding ceremony, Peyton did a first look with her father and two brothers. “Having that first moment to see her, especially since she’s the youngest, and to see her with her dad... it was really emotional,” wedding planner Elana Walker recalls.

second line dance. “When the second line began, not a single guest remained seated,” Elana recalls.

For Peyton and Jude, it was more than the stunning views and grand gestures that made their wedding weekend unforgettable. Being surrounded by the people they love most as they exchanged vows was the most cherished aspect. “That’s what we’ll remember in 20 or 30 years—how it felt having all those loved ones close by,” Jude says. The stunning celebration was the perfect beginning to a lifetime together, grounded in meaning and lit with the kind of joy that lasts long after the Champagne is gone.

As fireworks burst overhead, the couple had a Champagne mishap, as their tower collapsed. Luckily, guests were too distracted by the pyrotechnics to notice the moment.

BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER

Cynthea Corfah & John Alleyne

Cynthea Corfah and John Alleyne were engaged on the Langles Bridge at New Orleans City Park during a planetary alignment on January 25, 2025.

After blindfolding Cynthea with a handmade blindfold sewn by her mother, Ruth Corfah, John walked Cynthea up to the rose-petalcovered, candle-lined bridge and removed the blindfold, revealing a sea of their closest friends and family watching in anticipation. Tall oak trees with dangling Spanish moss canopied the couple as John read a heartfelt letter before asking Cynthea for her hand in marriage while tears rolled down her cheeks. After she said “yes,” the couple celebrated with a private party with their loved ones at one of their favorite restaurants, The Franklin, over Champagne, endless hors d’oeuvres and chicken parmesan.

Cynthea is a New Orleans-based journalist with bylines in national magazines, founder of Brunch for the Soul and an eczema advocate. John is a visual artist, independent curator and an assistant professor of art at Southern University. The couple met in 2020 when Cynthea interviewed John for a 225 magazine story, which the couple refers to as “love at first Zoom.” The wedding date is to be determined.

Carlos & Tiffany Dickerson

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

October 14, 2025 | 25 years married

What do you get when a certified public accountant and a comedian unite? Carlos & Tiffany Dickerson, respectively. The happy couple will celebrate 25 years of love and laughter on October 14, 2025.

Tiffany, a Baton Rouge native, was introduced to Carlos, who was living in St. Louis, Missouri, at the time, by his childhood best friend, Stephan Holloway, and his wife, Cabrina. Their brief, long-distance relationship quickly blossomed into an engagement. The beautiful couple’s wedding occurred on an open date weekend, which meant no LSU, SU or Saints football games being played! They were married by Pastor Leo D. Cyrus at New Hope Baptist Church while surrounded by family and friends during their small and intimate ceremony. The bridal party donned black and white attire. The wedding day included calla lilies, white lace, a Rolls Royce, and joy.

The lovers’ honeymoon was spent in Ocho Rios, Jamaica; a 15-year vow renewal was celebrated in Oahu, Hawaii, and an upcoming 25-year adventure is in the planning.

The couple have two wonderful children: Rachel, an LSU junior, and Carlos Jr., a soon-to-be incoming freshman Tiger.

Cheers to many more years of marital bliss, commitment, and putting God first.

Something NEW Something Old ,

CHRIS AND LINDSEY CEDOTAL’S WEDDING RECEPTION WAS THE CULMINATION OF YEARS OF WORK RESTORING AND TRANSFORMING A PAIR OF HOMES IN WEST FELICIANA

• WE DDING PHOTOS BY WONDER PHOTOGRAPHY INTERIOR PHOTOS BY CATHERINE CRAWFORD

“This house is such a big part of our lives,” says Lindsey Walker Cedotal, who celebrated her wedding to her new husband Chris with a reception at the home they brought to life together. “What better time to share it with our family and friends than our wedding day?”

Once upon a time in the hilly landscape of Louisiana’s Felicianas, a groom-to-be built a Victorian-style cottage for the woman he was planning to marry. The house, located in the historic district of the town of Jackson, was thereafter known as the “Bride’s House.”

Once upon a time—more than a century later—in the hilly landscape of the Felicianas, a groom-to-be rescued that old home and reconfigured it into a residence for himself and the woman he would soon marry. The house, which he carefully moved to the northern outskirts of St. Francisville and combined with elements of an even older home from another nearby town, got a new name to go along with its new life: “Oak Hill.”

“When I was a kid, my parents would always say I was going to become an architect,” explains the home’s owner and visionary Chris Cedotal of his lifelong passion for historic structures. “I wound up working in health care, but this is something that I’ve always found fascinating. It was always a dream to do a project like this, and I was lucky enough to be able to do it.”

Chris purchased his first piece of land north of St. Francisville about five years ago. His immediate plans were to use it as a hunting camp, but he also had bigger long-term dreams of building a new house in a historic style on the site. “I kept buying more and more land around it,” he says. “Then I realized that if I wanted the look to be historic, there had to be a way to figure it out.”

That meant looking for an authentic old home instead of constructing a new one from scratch. In early 2022, Chris found exactly what he was looking for in the Bride’s House, an 1890-built raised cottage with a big front porch. Its location in Jackson, some five miles from his property, was no deterrent. An experienced house mover simply split the house in two, removed the roof, and transported it to its new location, where it was put back together again with modifications to fit its new environment.

“I didn’t want the Victorian style in the middle of the country—that isn’t particularly fitting—but I knew the bones were right,” Chris says. “So really all I had to do was very light cosmetic renovations on the front to completely transform the style of the house and bring it back to the style of cottage that would be found in a country setting.”

The couple exchanged vows at a ceremony held in another historic structure, the 1857-built St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

Those modifications including swapping out skinny porch columns topped by decorative brackets for more robust square columns and dentil molding. “I just replaced the lacy trim with Greek Revival accents,” Chris explains. But that wasn’t the end of the new owner’s ideas for the home. He wanted to add a large primary suite as well as a dedicated area of the house for hunting gear and for modern must-haves like a laundry room. Instead of using new materials to build these new spaces, Chris was able to secure and salvage elements from a home that was a century older than the Bride’s House. Built in 1790 through a Spanish land grant, the “President’s House” had been the home of the president of the Silliman Female College in Clinton in the 1800s but had fallen into disrepair and was headed for demolition.

“I knew all that beautiful wood shouldn’t go to waste,” Chris says. “So we took it down piece by piece, loaded up the boards on trailers, and used it for basically all of the additions. At the end of the day, we really never went to Home Depot for a piece of wood. Every single thing that was used for the house is historic.”

Architectural designer Stephanie Potter and project manager Danton Glascock helped bring Chris’s ambitious vision to life. Using the materials from the President’s House, they added new wings near the back of both sides of the house, one for the primary suite and the other to incorporate a new laundry room, hunting locker room and guest bathroom. Above the carport, they also created a lounge space for playing pool and hanging out with friends.

“The President’s House had been added onto in the early 1800s and then again around 1840, and it was really cool to see by looking at the materials when each part was built and how much sophistication they had at the time,” Chris says. “The original beams that created the base of the house were essentially just tree trunks cut in half; they weren’t even milled and they still had bark on them. It was crazy.”

While all of this was happening, Chris was also building something else: a new relationship with Lindsey Walker, who he met

Lindsey and Chris shared a quiet prewedding moment in their secluded courtyard, which was designed by Grounds Pro to include an outdoor fireplace built of old bricks sourced from around the country.

The front porch of what was the Bride’s House is now home to a porch swing perfectly proportioned for this pair of newlyweds.

Lindsey and Chris utilized different areas of the home for their wedding preparations, with the halls of the new home forming the backdrop for these memorable moments with friends and family.

Thoughtful details like a custom illustration on the invitation envelope liners put the home at the center of the wedding weekend celebration.

by artist Hazel Morgan hangs above the fireplace in the original ladies’ parlor. The room is furnished with a circa-1700s sofa from the Netherlands and a pair of antique Louis XVI chairs the couple found in New Orleans. Decorator Jana Mistric of Sojourn Home Interiors and Window Treatments, who helped the Cedotals with this project, had the fringed curtains custom made for this space.

in early 2023. The two got engaged in April 2024 and began planning their wedding at the same time that construction on the house was taking place. Suddenly, the name “Bride’s House” took on a whole new meaning.

“We went back and forth about whether we wanted to live out here, but ultimately we couldn’t leave Baton Rouge,” Chris says. “So we decided to make this a weekend house, and that gave us the opportunity to plan the interiors of the rooms differently, since everything didn’t have to be as functional as a full-time home would be. We looked for antiques in New Orleans, Natchez and here in St. Francisville, and we really were able to do some cool stuff with the house that if you were living here all the time you wouldn’t necessarily be able to do. That was kind of liberating.”

In keeping with the home’s historic background, Chris purchased a large collection of antique furniture that had originally been used at

Roseneath, an 1832-built home in Jackson. “That helped us to come up with a lot of the stylistic ideas for the rest of the house,” Lindsey says. “It doesn’t look 100% like it would have if we had been completely true to the time period, but we paid homage to the history and to the area.”

It’s easy to see those odes to Feliciana history throughout the completed house, which was decorated with help from Jana Mistric of Sojourn Home Interiors and Window Treatments. The original ladies’ parlor is home to a portrait of Fulwar Skipwith, who served as governor of the West Florida Republic in the early 1800s when its capital was St. Francisville, and a flag of that shortlived nation hangs in a corner of the same room. Across the main hall in the original gentlemen’s parlor, a John James Audubon wild turkey print hangs above the fireplace. Artworks featuring West Feliciana plantations fill the walls of the primary suite, and a portrait of Philemon Thomas, who

A portrait of West Florida Republic Governor Fulwar Skipwith
The original gentlemen’s parlor retains a masculine sensibility, with muted green walls and heavy velvet-trimmed drapes. A wild turkey print by John James Audubon, who is most famous in these parts for living at nearby Oakley Plantation in 1821, is the focal point above the original fireplace mantel.

Originally intended to be a porch, the sunroom was enclosed to create a climate-controlled retreat, but it keeps the al fresco feel thanks to the ample natural light streaming through its windows. The space overlooks the large grassy area where the couple’s wedding reception took place.

A selection from an 80-piece set of china that may have been handpainted by Audubon is on display on a 19th-century English country sideboard in the dining room. The cabrioleleg table and Queen Anneinspired chairs were custom made to suit this space.

What was once a bedroom is now the kitchen, laid out by architectural designer Stephanie Potter to maximize function and storage, with cabinets that extend to the ceiling and space enough for a custom antiqueinspired table and six rush-seat chairs.
The cane-accented settee in the rear of the main hall was sourced from the 1832 Jackson home Roseneath along with several other period pieces. The Cedotals discovered the large portrait in a local antiques shop.

served as a military leader of the West Florida Republic, is on display in a hallway.

“We tried to make sure that every piece had some sort of story, some sort of meaning,” Chris says. “If you’re already that far down the road, you can’t do it halfway—you have to go all in and just make everything unique.”

Construction and all the finishing touches were completed just in time for the couple’s wedding weekend on March 14 and 15 of this year, ideal because they knew they wanted to host a large reception here. But the big weekend started in a more intimate way, with a ceremony for a small number of family and friends at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, a deconsecrated structure that was built in 1857. Chris has been a longtime supporter of an initiative aimed at preserving and restoring the church building, so he and Lindsey knew it would be the perfect place to say “I do.”

Wedding planner Angela DiVincenti Babin of Angela Marie Events set a sparkling scene amidst the rustic exposed brick and plaster of the old church. Babin placed rows of floating candles in varying sizes atop the bare concrete altar and filled the space with clear acrylic chairs for the 75 guests. The aisle was lined by low arrangements of white roses and delphiniums. A string quartet played as Lindsey entered the church wearing a gown from I Do Bridal Couture.

After the ceremony, the group moved to the St. Francisville Inn— itself a historic building constructed in 1880—for a seated wedding dinner. Here, Babin dressed long tables with tablecloths in varied blue and white patterns and created loosely mounded centerpieces of white roses and hydrangeas. In lieu of a place card, a blue ribbon with each guest’s name was tied in a big bow around the water goblet at their place. Tall pillar candles and low crystal votives, blue and white porcelain salt and pepper shakers, and whitewashed rattan chargers completed the look.

The following day, the newlyweds rallied for the big reception at their new home, which welcomed some 250 guests to share in the celebration. “I think it was a no-brainer,” says Lindsey of the decision to hold the reception at home. “We wanted

Dubbed the locker room, this space is stocked with hunting lockers and all the essentials for before and after a hunt— including a game table surrounded by comfy leather chairs.

part of our story to be having the reception here, since the house had already been such a big part of our relationship.”

The party kicked off with a set by one of Chris’s favorite bands, Better than Ezra, and the music kept going with Atlanta-based Az-IzZ Band. The reception was catered by Gilded Artichoke Catering Co., and Sweet Stirrings made both the six-tier monogrammed wedding cake and Chris’s golf-themed groom’s cake.

The couple shared their first dance as husband and wife to Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love.” And after all of the excitement of the weekend was done, they headed to the Caribbean for an 11-day honeymoon in Anguilla, St. Bart’s and St. Martin.

“I’m so glad we did the wedding over two days, because I feel like we got moments that other people don’t get to have on their wedding days because they’re so overwhelmed with things to do,” Lindsey says. “Spreading it out gave us the opportunity to really enjoy everything.”

Now that they’ve shifted from wedding planning to married life, the couple is looking forward to spending time in the house over long weekends and hosting family members for holidays. Chris has his sights set on spending the full month of April each year—aka turkey hunting season—on this property, and both are eager to be here during local festivals and “whenever we want to decompress,” he says.

“We’re ready to start building a home, more so than just a house,” Chris says. “I didn’t really believe people when they said it would be different the day after the wedding, but it is. There’s a different feeling to it, and we’re just embracing that.”

Even as they move forward, Chris and Lindsey say they’re holding onto the feeling of their wedding weekend. All they have to do is look up at the architectural drawings of the church that now hang in their bedroom, or look out on the patio and remember being out there with their loved ones on the biggest day of their lives.

“Especially with the main house being named the Bride’s House, being able to have our reception there and then planning to use this house as a family retreat for the rest of our lives is really special to us,” Chris says. “It’s a meaningful part of our story.”

The newly constructed primary bedroom suite features a custom Chippendale-style bed and classic matelassé bedding. Above the bed are architectural drawings of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the venue for the couple’s wedding ceremony.
Blue curtains frame views of the courtyard in this sitting area of the new primary suite.
The rear foyer doubles as a mudroom, where an original door salvaged from the President’s House still bears its peeling paint. “We wanted a lot of the house to be pristine and elegant, but then there were things like this door that we just couldn’t bear to sand and repaint,” Chris says.
The new primary bathroom is the best of old and new, with late-1700s cypress floor planks salvaged from the President’s House and an original bathtub sharing space with a new brassframed shower stall and crystal chandelier.

THREE PAST INREGISTER WEDDINGS COVER COUPLES REFLECT ON THEIR WEDDING REGISTRIES AND WHAT THEY WOULD PICK TODAY

Lauren Bailey & Steele Pollard

17 YEARS

What is one item you registered for that you still use today?

One of my favorites is our daily china, everyday ware from Juliska. It always makes me smile for multiple reasons. We registered for it through Custom Linens, and one of my husband’s best friends, Capucine and David Gooding, happen to be the owners and designers of Juliska. When you shop locally and keep things personal, you cherish the objects even more.

What would you register for if you were registering in 2025?

I am not sure how different things are now, but I know I would register locally. When you shop locally, you make a difference in so many people’s lives—extra well wishes of wedding bliss from the community, in a way.

What is your best marriage advice?

I think it is important to evolve and keep talking about family, dreams and goals. I truly cherish our family dinners at home. Sitting around the table together with our children is simple, but it provides memories we can continue to create and cherish.

7 YEARS

What is one item you registered for that you still use today?

Our Nespresso machine. It was one of those gifts that felt a little extra at the time, but now we use it every single morning!

What would you register for if you were registering in 2025?

A cordless Dyson vacuum. It’s worth the hype. I would also register for everyday dishes that make you excited to set the table.

What is your best marriage advice?

Make time for each other. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy, but staying connected in the busy seasons makes all the difference. And, most importantly, keep God first. Letting faith guide your marriage gives it a foundation that can weather anything.

1 1/2 YEARS

What is one item you registered for that you still use today?

My Bitossi “Rose” dinner plates, along with the other pieces that complete the set. They’re my most-used registry item by far. These have made everyday meals feel more special. I know they will continue to be wellloved as our family grows.

What would you register for if you were registering in 2025?

A coffee maker. I forgot to register for one, but thankfully, we were gifted one, and now we use it multiple times a day.

What is your best marriage advice?

Always look for ways to serve each other and be intentional about tuning into each other’s needs. Small acts of thoughtfulness go a long way. Also, learning to laugh at each other’s quirks makes everything more fun and helps keep things light.

As the wedding announcement for Ann Whitten Perry and Conrad Reynaud announced in the June 2015 issue of inRegister Weddings, it’s all in the details. A decade has passed, but that sentiment still rings true in every wedding celebration, whether big or small, held in your hometown or across international waters. Their celebration, coordinated by Leslie Campbell, showcased the timeless magic of a tent a-glow with string lights and festivities against a rustic outdoor backdrop. At the same time, details like Ann Whitten’s off-theshoulder dress and flower crown, along with the reception’s white linens punctuated with towering floral arrangements, highlighted elements of the newlyweds’ personalities— and the most memorable wedding trends of the 2010s.

Looking back just a decade, it’s clear that weddings have only become more elaborate. Yet no matter the year, the couple or the vision, it’s the small, sentimental details— and the feeling of being surrounded by those you love most—that make a wedding truly timeless.
