The Smith Family
A LEGACY OF LOVE, SPORTS, AND COMMUNITY
Meet Joleen and John Smith, a couple who didn’t meet behind the bleachers of the volleyball games they both loved but rather at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, in the young adult Sunday school class.
After getting acquainted through countless games of volleyball, softball, and racquetball, John proposed to Joleen in front of their friends at a friend’s apartment. The couple has been inseparable ever since, building a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passion for sports.
A Family of Athletes
The Smith family loves sports.
A University of Texas at Austin alumna, Joleen was a handball and racquetball champion and Sports VicePresident of Longhorn Band.
John, an HVAC/air conditioning expert and Vice-President of Operations for an Austin-based commercial HVAC company, played basketball and volunteered as a kids' basketball league referee and coach.
They have three children: Paisley, Peyton, and Lorelei. All of them have been involved in various sports throughout their childhood and teenage years.
Paisley played Hoopstars basketball, soccer, club volleyball, and academy tennis as a child, and in middle school, she played volleyball, basketball, tennis, cross country, and track, earning numerous awards, including MVP (most valuable player) and district championships in multiple sports. In high school, she played volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country, earning Academic All-District, All-District Honorable Mention, and Defensive Player of the Year in basketball, and in cross country, qualifying for Regionals three years in a row and earning 1st team THSCA Academic All-State, Women’s Runner of the Year two years in a row, and BISD Athlete of the Month twice.
Peyton played flag football, tackle football, baseball, Hoopstars basketball, select soccer, and track, as well as middle school basketball, soccer, track, and cross country. He currently plays soccer and runs track and cross country in high school.

Lorelei played Hoopstars basketball, soccer, and academy tennis as a kid, played golf in middle school, and is now competing in cross country and track as a freshman in high school.
Community Involvement
When their kids were younger, they would play outside with other neighborhood kids, riding their bikes up and down the street, playing football, basketball, or soccer, or just running around playing chasing games. Joleen reminisces about how this was what it was like when she was growing up in the '80s without a care in the world.
Joleen herself is an avid volunteer. She has served on the Bastrop YMCA Board of Directors, co-founded the Bastrop MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), and been an active member of the Cedar Creek Elementary PTA, Cedar Creek Middle School PTA, BISD Council PTA, and Cedar Creek Athletic Booster Club. She is currently the president of the CCHS PTSA (if anyone wants to get involved or make a donation, please let her know!). Her dedication to the community has earned her the CCHS Volunteer of the Year award twice.
Academic Achievements and Extracurricular Activities
The Smith children are all chronic overachievers, and their parents couldn’t be more proud.
Paisley is a high-achieving senior at CCHS, where she is Valedictorian and has been accepted into the prestigious computer science program at UT Austin, with admission to the elite Turing Scholars Program and was named a finalist for the Forty Acres Scholars Program, a full-ride merit-based scholarship. She has also received

a statewide scholarship from the Texas PTA, one of only 16 awarded. Beyond academics, Paisley is an active member of numerous clubs and organizations, including the National Honor Society, Math Club, and FTC Robotics, and has volunteered over 200 hours in the past four years.
Peyton, a sophomore at CCHS, is an athlete through and through. Not only does he compete in soccer, cross country, and track & field at CCHS, but he is also on an award-winning select soccer team through HYSA Fusion. His Fusion team is a WDDOA Flight 1 Prime team and has taken home the gold in many statewide tournaments. Beyond athletics, he's a member of the French Club, the Leo Club, and CCHS PTSA, where he served as a student leader this year. After high school, he's considering majoring in architecture, interior design, or engineering.
Lorelei, a freshman, is an artist and writer. She has won many awards, including a state-level Award of Merit in the PTA Reflections Art Contest. Her artwork has been featured in Celebrating Art’s Fall 2023 Art Book and Teen Ink magazine. She has had artwork chosen to be displayed in two juried art exhibitions, one in the “L'Esprit de la Louisiane” exhibit at Lost Pines Art Center and one in “Our Earth” a global, virtual exhibit at Insecta Collective in Leicester, UK. Here's her website: http://www.loreleikate.com.
Family Life and Pets
The Smith family has lived in the Hidden Ridge neighborhood behind Cedar Creek Middle School for over 18 years. They have three porch cats: Rosie, an older, sweet but skittish tabby; Rocky, their "himbo" with beautiful eyes and luscious, long fur; and Beta, a cute ginger with an adorable question mark tail.

Rosie was a stray who just showed up on their porch a few years ago. Lorelei started feeding her their lunchmeat, so eventually, they gave in and bought some cat food. Rocky and his two sisters were found abandoned as kittens at John's office, and John brought Rocky home with him. Beta was adopted from the Bastrop County Animal Shelter.
A Legacy of Love and Service
The Smith family's story involves love, sports, and community involvement. The lovely couple has successfully gifted their values of hard work, perseverance, and service to their children and the family couldn’t be happier or prouder.

YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, WE HAVE ANSWERS: NAVIGATING THE Medical Spa Experience
Medical Spas serve as havens for those seeking personalized beauty and wellness solutions, but navigating this world may raise questions. Here, we delve into the most frequently asked questions that Medical Spas encounter, providing clarity and insights to enhance your experience. As with any medical treatment, it is important that you select a Medical Spa professional with the credentials, training, experience and personality you feel comfortable with.
What is the difference between a Medical Spa and a traditional spa?
Medical spas combine the tranquility of a traditional spa with advanced, Medical-grade treatments for aesthetic enhancements. While traditional spas focus on relaxation and pampering, Medical Spas offer a wide range of cosmetic procedures overseen by medical professionals, delivering results that go well beyond surface-level rejuvenation.
Are Medical Spa procedures safe?
Yes, Medical spa procedures are generally safe when performed by qualified professionals. In Texas, Medical Spas are medically directed, so ask the question, who is your medical director? It's crucial to choose a reputable Medical Spa with certified practitioners who prioritize safety, adhere to best practices, and utilize top-tier equipment. Thorough consultations and a comprehensive understanding of your medical history also contribute to ensuring a safe experience.
What treatments are available at a Medical Spa?
Medical spas offer a diverse array of treatments tailored to address various skin concerns, from medical grade facials and chemical peels to laser therapies and injectables like tox, dermal fillers and Medical weight loss. Additionally, they may provide hair loss therapies, hair removal, and regenerative or biostimulatory treatments designed to “turn on” regeneration at the cellular level.
How do I choose the right Medical Spa for me?
When selecting a Medical Spa, consider factors such as the qualifications and experience of the staff, the range of services offered, reviews from previous clients, and the cleanliness of the facility. A personalized consultation can also help gauge the expertise and compatibility of the Medical Spa with your goals and expectations.
What can I expect during a Medical Spa consultation?
A Medical spa consultation is a crucial step in developing a customized treatment plan. During this session, the practitioner will assess your skin condition, discuss your concerns and goals, review your medical history, and recommend suitable treatments. This dialogue also allows you to ask questions, clarify any doubts, and gain a deeper understanding of the proposed regimen and develop a rapport with your professional.
How long do Medical Spa treatments take to show results?
The timeline for results varies depending on the treatment and individual factors such as skin type, age, and lifestyle. While some treatments yield immediate improvements, others may require multiple sessions for optimal results. Consistency with posttreatment care and adherence to skincare recommendations are crucial for optimal results.
How long do Medical Spa results last?
This varies greatly by the treatment performed. While some procedures like tox, require treatment every 3-4 months others may last a year out or longer. It depends on your own unique treatment plan. The best answer is to schedule a consultation and discern specific treatment options.

ELECTRIFICATION IN AMERICA: A Path to a Sustainable Future
In the face of rapid technological advancements, the United States is witnessing a paradigm shift towards electrification. This transformation is evident in various sectors, including transportation, residential, and commercial, and is driven by the numerous benefits it offers.
ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EVS)
(EVs) Electric vehicles (EVs) are at the forefront of this revolution. The U.S. EV market has grown exponentially, with sales quadrupling under the Biden administration. EVs offer several advantages, including improved air quality, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and potential savings for consumers. Moreover, the transition to EVs is expected to create numerous job opportunities and bolster energy security.
EV CHARGERS
The expansion of the EV market necessitates a robust charging infrastructure. The Biden-Harris administration has pledged to install 500,000 publicly available chargers by 2030. This infrastructure will not only support the growing fleet of EVs but also stimulate economic development and improve air quality in rural communities.
However, the current number of charging stations is insufficient, and the country would require almost 20 times more chargers than it has now.
ELECTRIFICATION OF HOMES AND BUSINESSES
The electrification of homes and businesses is another critical aspect of this transition. By shifting to clean electricity for heating, cooking, and other services, we can reduce harmful indoor and outdoor air pollution. This shift can also lead to significant energy savings and create healthier living environments. The electrification of industrial processes can further enhance operational efficiencies and reduce running costs.
Home Power Storage Systems and Backup Power Home power storage systems and backup power solutions are gaining popularity as they provide energy security and independence. They allow homeowners to store excess power generated by renewable sources for later use, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering energy costs.
CHALLENGES
Despite these benefits, the transition to a fully electrified society poses challenges. The U.S. power grid, already plagued by outages and increasingly severe weather, needs a trillion-dollar overhaul to handle the expected clean-energy revolution. The surge in demand from EVs and the increasing dependence on renewable power could strain the grid. Addressing these challenges requires substantial revisions to both policy and infrastructure.
CONCLUSION
The electrification of America presents a promising path towards a sustainable future. While challenges exist, the benefits - from environmental to economic - make it a worthwhile pursuit. As we continue to innovate and adapt, we move closer to a future where clean, efficient, and reliable electric power is the norm.

In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf, old stagemanager mother who hates every bone in George’s body.

WEE CARE LEARNING CENTER
WHO WE ARE
At Wee Care, our program philosophy is based on the premise that children learn about the world around them through play (active involvement with other children, adults, and materials). Children need years of experience with real objects and events before they are ready to understand the meaning of symbols such as letters and numbers. Learning takes place as young children touch, manipulate, and experiment, with things and interact with people. The teachers’ role is to create an environment that supports the ideas and experiences of children and invites them to observe, be active, make choices, and experiment. Children spontaneously engage in activities such as block building, painting, or dramatic play, adding pieces of information to what they already know and thereby generating experience. Children learn simple concepts and then use these concepts to grasp more complex ideas (the building blocks of learning).
WHAT WE DO
free institution, call me. I will do my best to work with you. Our facility is huge, so I have plenty of availability. If you are on CCS, TWC is covering your co-pays for April. I acknowledge the stress that these uncertainties cause, however I believe in the power of Gods Word, and His faithfulness to His children. I believe in declarations of faith, (Job 22:28) “And you will declare a thing and it will be established.” Wee Care is here to help, this facility was God’s idea. It’s during times like today that the vision becomes so clear. We Love Bastrop and all of its tiniest citizens. CORBIN SHERRELL A Rescue Story
MEET CORBIN SHERRELL, a Bastrop resident passionate about establishing a private shelter/sanctuary for reptiles. His love for these creatures began with a single snake, a reward for his daughter's academic achievements. Corbin noticed a hidden issue - the surge in reptile breeding during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to many reptiles being abandoned when life returned to normal.
Corbin's rescue operation is a beacon of hope for these abandoned reptiles. He takes in reptiles that can be handled and diligently matches them with loving, forever homes. If you're considering adopting a reptile, we strongly recommend contacting him. You can also delve deeper into his inspiring work on his YouTube channel, 'aRescueStory '.
Corbin's collection, a testament to his dedication, spans 600 square feet and is equipped with central heating and cooling for a controlled environment. The Sherrell family is home to an impressive menagerie of 22 snakes, 11 lizards, three frogs, and a tortoise.

BASTROP ISD RECOGNIZES MENTORS AND VOLUNTEERS
STAFF ACROSS BASTROP ISD wrapped up the 2023-2024 school year by packing up classrooms, hugging their students, and recognizing some special people in the community. As part of our community outreach and recognition, each school was given the opportunity to name a Volunteer of the Year and Mentor of the Year for their campus.
Volunteers had taken on a wide array of tasks such as organizing fundraisers, chaperoning field trips or monitoring the cafeteria during lunch (lunch heroes as we like to call them). Mentors took on a more student-focused role with their time spent guiding a student or small group of students through the trials and tribulations of being a kid. The Check and Connect program that was introduced this year encouraged mentors to focus on relationship building, attendance, grades, behavior and the continual reminder to students of the importance of school.
HERE’S OUR LIST OF THOSE AWARDED THIS YEAR.

A Son’s Letter To His Father Who Chose Life © Best Version Media
Hey Dad, Happy Father’s Day.
I love you so much.
As a 21-year-old, you still find ways to make my day. I love every minute of our conversation, and I cherish the nuggets of wisdom that you generously give. It was hard for me to put myself in your shoes when you were my age. You were in a tough season and extremely afraid. You had a particular reputation, you had friends, you had family, and you probably felt like you disappointed everyone. I bet you felt alone. I know I would have.
I don’t know if I have ever officially thanked you for choosing life amid an unplanned pregnancy, and for that, I am sorry. Dad, thank you so much for standing up and willingly fighting for your family. Thank you for choosing to see past the circumstantial pain and fear and see that there was a life on the other end of your decision. Thank you for sticking by Mom’s side and marrying her. Thank you for fighting for your family ever since and being a clear representation of the love of God.
I am getting married in 32 days. That sentence is mind-blowing but so exciting. I want you to know that you have painted an incredible picture of how I want to raise a family. I will be ecstatic if I replicate your job as a husband and Father. You have always been, and will
always be, the man I look up to most. You have been near, caring, and believing since you found out you would be a dad until today. Thank you. Thanks for believing in me. Thank you for being a picture of my heavenly Father.
My love for God began with your life and leadership, and I can’t thank you enough for that reality.
To bless you on this particular day, I wrote a short prayer I want to pray over you.
A Father’s Day Prayer
Father, thank you so much for Daddy. He has been the most incredible blessing to me. I pray over him this year as aFatherandaHusband, andIpraythatyoucontinuetofill himwithyourpresence.Givehimmoresignificantinfluence andawiderreach, andblesshiseverymove.Thankyouto him.HelovesyouandhisfamilylikeIwanttoloveyouand myfamily.

TO HELP YOU FEEL PUT TOGETHER AS A MOM
KIDS WILL BE KIDS!
• They’re playful, creative, and curious! And that’s a beautiful thing. But it’s also MESSY.
• This guide will help you create pockets of peace all around your home, so that the kid chaos won’t feel so bad.
BATHROOM:
Your Self-Care Sanctuary
You will feel more motivated to keep up with self-care habits when your bathroom is a calm & inviting space.
Start with these 3 steps:
Ditch the dusty products (it’s okay to toss that B&BW lotion from 3 Christmases ago!)
Reconsider what you keep on the counter. Move less frequently used items to drawers & cabinets. Contain countertop essentials to a tray, basket, or Lazy-Susan!
Invest in storage solutions that optimize space and keep things easily accessible. Top items: 2-tiered organizer under the sink, lazy susans, drawer dividers, or bins.
P.S. don’t forget to measure!
CLOSET:
Start Your Day Off Right
An organized closet makes your wardrobe visible and accessible, so you can look and feel your best without wasting time rummaging through drawers an piles.
Start with these 3 steps: Let go of old sizes. Or at least store them in another space or bins at the top of the closet so that they don’t take up valuable space!
Sort by category! When you put clothes into groups (shirts, pants, dresses, etc.) and arrange them by color, it makes outfit building much easier!
Invest in thin, matching hangers. This is a gamechanger for space and visual appeal! Additionally, steal some small hangers from your kid's closet to hang your pants on, they balance the pants well.
BONUS: Keep a donation basket somewhere in your closet to toss items in when you try them on and realize they don’t fit right, or you just don’t like them!

PANTRY:
Fueling The Household
A simplified pantry can make all the difference in your weekly to-do list. From meal planning to grocery shopping to the actual cooking. And all the snacking in between!
Start with these 3 steps:
Group like items together (breakfast, baking, canned goods, etc.) and place them on a shelf based on their frequency of use. Strategically place kids' snacks high or low, based on whether you allow them to choose their snacks.
Put your categories into a designated bin or basket, then label it! Without containment, things will quickly shift out of place. Labeling helps everyone know where to find things and where to put them back at. They can even help you put up groceries correctly!
Make space for backstock & oversized items. If you don’t designate a spot for these from the start, they will overrun your systems!
LAUNDRY ROOM:
A Functional Space for the Never-Ending Chore
Laundry - it never ends, and it never will! An organized laundry room can streamline the process and make the big task a little less overwhelming.
Start with these 3 steps:
Take everything out so you can identify duplicates and old/ unused items. If you don’t want to throw good products awayfind a place to donate them at this link: heartening.org.
Reconsider your layout to ensure everything is in a spot that makes sense. Hamper close to the washer, detergent by the washing machine, folding space close to the dryer. Invest in helpful products for small spaces: retractable drying rack or clothesline, slim rolling cart, collapsible + mountable ironing board
BONUS: if you use liquid detergent, throw the whole cup in the wash to avoid the sticky messes.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN EMPLOYEE AND A SUBCONTRACTOR?
I hope all is well. If you’re in a position to hire or are considering it in the future, it’s important to understand the implications of hiring new employees versus contractors. Below are some insights that could assist you in deciding what makes the most sense for your business.
Employees are paid through a company’s payroll system and are more of a financial investment since they require benefits and insurance coverage. However, this investment typically benefits employers in the long-term as they train and promote employees that exude loyalty and a deep understanding of the company’s mission. Here are a few things to consider about the insurance and tax implications for full-time employees:
Companies must pay state and federal unemployment taxes as well as Social Security and Medicare taxes for employees. W-2 tax forms are required to be filed for employees. Employees are required to be covered by workers’ compensation insurance and
provided basic healthcare benefits at a minimum. General liability insurance will cover any injuries or property damage caused by an employee. Professional liability takes it a step further and offers protection in the event of a lawsuit.
Subcontractors are self-employed and provide insurance coverage for themselves on an independent basis. They are an excellent choice for companies who may not be able to invest in full-time labor, or who need to staff shorter-term projects. Keep the following in mind concerning insurance and tax liabilities for subcontractors:
Subcontractors are typically responsible for their own healthcare insurance, filing their income and payroll taxes, and creating invoices for their billed hours. In addition to a 1099-MISC Form, companies that pay an independent contractor more than $600 or more in a tax year must file a W-9 form. It’s crucial to ask subcontractors to provide proof of insurance coverage, particularly general liability coverage. If an uninsured subcontractor is hired, the company may be liable for any injuries, damage, or lawsuits caused by that person.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if we can help answer any questions regarding your coverage.

BY KEN KESSELUS | BASTROP HISTORIAN
THE FOUNDATION OF BASTROP - JUNE 8, 1832
On a summer day in 1832, Miguel Arcienega and Samuel May Williams stood on a high bluff near the crossing of the San Antonio Road over the Colorado River. Their visit was in response to the instructions given by Stephen F. Austin, the Impresario of the "Little Colony." Austin, also known as the "Father of Texas," had been granted control of this area by the Mexican government four years ago. His primary objective was to establish a town as the new colony's capital.
Here's a toast that Mark Rose and I wrote thirty years ago:
Mark: TO BASTROP; Seasoned in experience and rooted in tradition, marked by history since the days of Mexico and the Republic of Texas, Daughter of the Colorado, Rich in resources and home to thankful generations, friendly and nurturing, industrious and creative, Ever evolving, conquering each new challenge, promising a destiny of abiding distinction.
Stephen F. Austin, a towering figure in Texas history, ventured beyond the frontier to establish a site that he foresaw as a crucial base of operations for settlers to thrive in the westernmost part of his colonies. In a tribute to the man whose unwavering support helped them overcome Mexican governmental objections to their dream of bringing Americans to settle in Texas, his land commissioner, Arcienega, was instructed to name the new town 'Bastrop.' Bastrop remained Austin's primary associate until his demise in 1827.
On June 8, the commissioner embarked on the task of establishing a new town in Mexico. He meticulously laid out a plan, which included 57-foot-wide streets that intersected north-south and east-west. In the far northeast corner of the town, he set aside a twelve-acre land for a burial ground, now known as the old section of Fairview Cemetery. Closer to the river bluff, he earmarked several threeacre lots along streets that he christened College, Government (now Emile), and Austin. These lots were home to a 'Square of the Constitution,' a school, municipal buildings, a church and priests' houses, a jail and house of correction, and a slaughterhouse.
After severe flooding caused by an overflowing of Gills Branch inundated that area in the spring of 1836, the citizens moved the businesses and courthouse to higher ground along Main Street.
We are on the crest of our hometown celebrating its 192nd birthday. However, there is still time to continue the celebration. You can raise a glass with your friends and make a toast. Here's a toast that Mark Rose and I wrote thirty years ago:
Ken: To Bastrop; Treasured in the hearts of your citizens!

IS IT TIME FOR A New Toilet?
Your toilet might not be the flashiest part of your home, but it plays a vital role in your daily comfort. As time passes, toilets can wear down, leading to inefficiencies and potential plumbing headaches. Let's dive into the signs that tell you it's time to consider a new toilet. Recognizing these indicators can help you decide when it's best to upgrade and seek expert help from Savior Service Plumbing Company.
WHAT TO KEEP AN EYE ON
1. Frequent Repairs: Are you finding yourself fixing your toilet often for issues like leaks, clogs, or flushing problems? This constant tinkering could be a strong sign that a new toilet is in order. Constant repairs not only eat up your time but also your wallet. It might be more practical to invest in a reliable, long-term solution. Get in touch with Savior for insights on choosing a new toilet that suits your needs.
2. Cracks or Damage: Visible cracks or damage in your toilet's porcelain bowl or tank are red flags that it's time for a replacement. These cracks can lead to leaks, wasting water, and potentially causing damage to your bathroom floor and surroundings. If you spot any structural issues, consulting with Savior is crucial to assess the situation and decide on the best way forward.
3. Constant Clogs: Dealing with persistent toilet clogs that won't budge with regular plunging or DIY fixes? This could be a sign of a larger underlying problem. Older toilets may struggle with modern
water-saving practices, leading to frequent clogging. Upgrading to a new toilet with better flushing power and water efficiency can tackle these issues and boost overall performance.
4. Inefficiency: Older toilets tend to use more water per flush, resulting in higher bills and unnecessary waste. Switching to a new, waterefficient toilet not only conserves water but also reduces your environmental impact. Savior can guide you in selecting a modern, eco-friendly toilet that aligns with your preferences and budget.
5. Age of the Toilet: Consider how long your current toilet has been in use. Typically, toilets have a lifespan of 15-20 years, depending on usage and maintenance. If yours is nearing or surpassing this timeframe, it's wise to start thinking about a replacement. A new toilet not only offers peace of mind but also improves efficiency and enhances your bathroom's aesthetics.

Neighbors of Bastrop SPORTS
BY JOZEF LEWITZKY | PHOTOS BY AMANDA HURST | RIDGE DOG PHOTOGRAPHY
At just 17 years old, Jayden Ray Riley has already dedicated 13 years of his life to his greatest passion: football.
As a varsity player at Bastrop High School, Jayden's personal goals are centered on self-growth. He strives to become faster and smarter on the field while also learning about the other positions that support his own play and better understanding what leads the team to victory.
But Jayden's athletic dreams extend beyond high school. He hopes to one day make it to the NFL, where he can be the best version of himself and achieve any goal he sets for himself.
Overcoming His Biggest Challenge
Jayden believes his biggest challenge in football is not his opponents but himself. He recognizes that the greatest obstacle to success is most often self-doubt and complacency. That’s why he’s focused on his own trajectory, setting smart personal goals and working tirelessly to achieve them. So far, the strategy has been working, and he’s been able to push past his limitations and reach new heights every year.
Words of Wisdom
Jayden credits his success to the wise words of his mentor: "If you're about it, then be about it. The biggest mistake you can ever make is being afraid to make one." This advice has
The Heart of a Champion: Jayden Riley's Journey to the Top
stuck with Jayden throughout his athletic career. He’s chosen this path, so even if it’s a big risk, it’s worth going all out. That’s what life is about, after all.
The Love of the Game
For Jayden, football is more than just a sport – it's a way of life. He loves the structure and family atmosphere that the program provides and the physical and mental challenges that come with competing at a high level. And, of course, he can't deny the thrill of hitting someone else (legally!) on the field!
Before each game, Jayden likes to put on his headphones and get in the zone-–to lock in. He also likes to join his teammates

in a pregame prayer, seeking guidance and protection for their time on the field. Outside of football, Jayden enjoys spending time with his friends and family, working on his truck, and learning new skills from his great-uncle.
Learning the Value of Teamwork
Jayden believes he has learned countless valuable lessons during his time on the Bastrop High School football team. The sport is all about teamwork, structure, responsibility, and purpose. He recognizes that being part of a team requires looking out for others, setting goals, and working together to achieve them.
Leadership Council. This prestigious group of 12 athletes is responsible for leading and mentoring their peers, and the young man couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it.
Jayden's coaches have also played a significant role in his development. One piece of advice that has stuck with him is to always keep his head up and move forward, even in the face of adversity. His coaches have taught him to be persistent. Persevere, and you’ll never have to give up on your goals.
Overcoming Mistakes
Jayden has made his fair share of mistakes on the field, but he's learned to overcome them by letting go of the past and focusing on the present. In one game, he recalls making a big mistake with his footwork, hurting his performance massively. But he didn’t let it tilt him for the rest of the game. Instead, he brushed himself off, moved forward, and learned from his mistakes.
Awards and Accolades
Jayden's hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. He was recently named Defensive MVP for Bastrop High School and selected to be part of the exclusive S.E.R.V.E
Looking ahead, Jayden remains committed to his goals and his team. In his heart, there's no doubt that he'll achieve great things, whether in the NFL or on some other path built from the skills he’s gained.

INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR PAINT: FAQ'S
Q: It has been said that painting a wall with flat paint can be touched up. Is that correct?
A: It is important to note that the statement claiming that color does not fade over time is false. In reality, paint naturally fades over time due to exposure to sunlight and other environmental factors. For a long-lasting and visually appealing finish on your walls, it is recommended to use a satin finish. This type of finish creates a protective barrier that helps prevent color fading and easily cleans any dirt or stains. So, to maintain your walls' vibrant and fresh look, consider using a satin finish for your next painting project.
Q: Is it possible to paint a brick or stone home?
A: Yes. We have painted many homes in the Smithville area and have successfully maintained color and a beautiful finish.
For a flawless and long-lasting finish, it is recommended to use a masonry bonding primer followed by a 100% acrylic finish. Our team of experts has extensive experience in painting homes in this region, and we have consistently achieved a stunning and consistent color finish. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your home's exterior will look beautiful for years.
Q: Do you have to strip off old paint to apply new paint on an exterior project?
A: Repainting a surface with old paint, washing it with a power wash, and preparing it properly can work wonders. It is often a better option than scraping off the old paint entirely. Scraping off paint can cause unintended damage to the original surface, which can be costly to fix. On the other hand, a thorough power wash and prep can effectively remove any dirt, grime, or loose paint, ensuring that the new coat of paint adheres properly and looks great.
Q: Can you paint a garage floor by washing and scrubbing concrete?
A: The weather in Central Texas is known for being unpredictable, which makes it challenging to ensure that paint adheres well to concrete surfaces. To avoid any issues, it is suggested that a diamond grinder be used to create a profile on the surface, which ensures that the epoxy material attaches firmly to the concrete.
Q: Can you paint over a popcorn ceiling?
A: Yes, getting rid of popcorn texture from a ceiling is possible. One way to do this is by using a spray to apply paint. Removing popcorn texture from a ceiling can be done in various ways, but the most effective method is spraying water over the surface

and scrapping it off. After removing the texture, it's essential to re-float the joints, prime the surface, and apply a medium texture before putting two coats of ceiling paint. While some people use a spray to apply paint, it's not the proper way to remove the popcorn texture. The water and scraping method is more thorough and ensures a smoother finish. Following these steps, you can transform your ceiling and give it a fresh, updated look.

Of Chicken Gonzales TheLegend
Let's talk about pressure, shall we?
Whether it's the pressure to get your two-year-old dressed (not for the faint of heart), the pressure to clean the house before your neighbors come over (trust me, their place needs a good dusting), or the cool atmospheric pressure on Jupiter that makes it rain diamonds (Google it), pressure is a part of all of our lives.
Luckily, I have a simple recipe that will take the pressure out of making dinner, and the taste is out of this world. Like all diamonds in the rough, this recipe calls for lots of pressure, so grab your favorite pressure cooker for this recipe.
Chicken Gonzales can take up to 5 minutes to prep. Due to overwhelming demand, I'll share the fantastic history behind this delicious meal.
Our culinary adventure story takes place in a hallway far, far away, in a land we shall call "Del Valle High School." Being a first-year teacher is hard, and being a first-year teacher during a global pandemic is just insane.
After several months of crawling through classes, fighting cell phone use, and trying to survive last-minute staff meetings, a miracle happened.
A teacher in my hall walked by one afternoon with what appeared to be a plate of warm rice topped with this creamy shredded chicken concoction. My eyes sparkled. My taste buds raised their hands to command my mouth to ask, "What is that, and where did you get it?!"
After learning the source location of this heavenly meal, I made my way to the opposite end of the campus, where the admin offices were. I kid you not. The closer I got to the offices, the stronger that delicious smell became, and the more my taste buds stretched and screamed for culinary satisfaction!
I made my way to Vice Principal Gonzales's office. There, in the corner of her chic, mellow-toned office, sat a pressure cooker with shredded chicken goodness. My taste buds pushed me into her office. I had yet to think through the whole interaction. Do I walk in and mumble, "Me hungry?" Then she gives me a plate, pats me on the head, and scurries me away back to my cage…I mean, class?
We chatted a bit; I inquired about the food in a calm, desperate way, and Hallelujah-success! I left that office with a plate of rice topped with this fantastic, shredded chicken recipe! After school, I begged her for the recipe, and she gladly shared it with me. Since then, I've added a can of corn to the recipe she shared to add more texture. I never really knew the recipe's name, so in honor of the Vice Principal who saved my sanity as a first-year teacher, I named the dish "Chicken Gonzales."
May this meal bring you as much joy and culinary comfort as it has to my wife and me (I wish my two and five-year-old would eat this, but that's a battle for another day.) When the pressures of day-to-day life are too much, get out of the pressure cooker and make this meal with your unique touch. Maybe add a small can of mushrooms or some diced Hatch chilis. Or not. The choice is totally up to you. No pressure ;)
Ingredients
Pressure cooker
10 oz can diced tomatoes (w/green chili for a kick!)
1/2 block cream cheese
15 oz can corn (drained)
1 oz packet ranch seasoning mix
1.5- 2 lbs raw chicken breast (approximately three pieces)
15 oz can black beans (or 27 oz for extra protein. Get those gains!)
Assembly:
1. Grab your pressure cooker and get ready to roll!
2. Dump tomatoes (undrained), corn (drained), and black beans(undrained) into the pressure cooker.
3. Next, place the chicken on top of corn, tomatoes, and beans in a circle so the chicken is not piled on each other.
4. Place the 1/2 block of cream cheese directly on top of the chicken or to the sides (feel free to use the entire block for extra creamy goodness.)
5. Scream to pretend this dish is exhausting you.
6. Dump the ranch packet seasoning on the chicken and cream cheese.
Lock the lid and set the pressure cooker to 30 minutes on normal pressure.
Now, be free and seize the day!
Once the pressure cooker tells you it is done, remove the lid and let it cool for 5 minutes. *
Take two forks (or your weapons) and shred the chicken. As you shred, stir everything up as you go.
Voi'la! Perfection. Serve over some rice or eat with tortilla chips.
*You may want to move everything into a large serving bowl before shredding chicken to avoid burns from the sides of the cooker. You can also wear oven gloves during the shredding portion, as the steam gets a bit hot.

A Father Writes, I'm Sorry
I’m sorry.
Fatherhood has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. I love you and want to be the best dad I can be. But sometimes, I fail. Sometimes, I fail miserably. And sometimes, you have had to suffer the consequences. So you probably have not heard me say this enough, but I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being impatient and harsh with you. I’m sorry for so often choosing my career over our relationship. I’m sorry for making you feel like an inconvenience or distraction. I’m sorry for not investing in your spiritual life as much as I should have. I’m sorry for the times I’ve sinfully misrepresented what God is like in my words, actions, and priorities. I know you are aware of where I fall short. And if you’re too young to notice, you will one day. So I just want you to know that I’m aware, too. You’re not making it up. You’re not being a crybaby. I was wrong. And I’m sorry.
We offer unbeatable warranties on workmanship and materials.
