APPRENTICESHIPS EXPLAINED

BCoT’s apprenticeship team is one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in the region, working with both large and small employers across a variety of industry sectors.

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?

Apprenticeships give you the chance to learn on the job, instead of in the classroom full-time. You will be assessed on a continuous basis, with exams and an end point assessment.Apprenticeships involve either day or evening release to BCoT, or personal tutoring within your workplace.

WHAT DOES AN APPRENTICESHIP INVOLVE?

Apprenticeships are designed with employers and offer a structured programme that helps you develop the industry-specific skills your employer needs for you to undertake your job to a high standard.

The majority of training takes place on-the-job at the employer’s premises, where learners work alongside experienced staff. Additionally, off-thejob training is provided by the college enhancing skills and knowledge in a structured learning environment.

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN APPRENTICESHIP

If you have an employer in place to support your chosen apprenticeship, please tell us as much information about them as you can on your application. Once it’s submitted we’ll contact your employer to ensure the requirements of your apprenticeship programme can be met and visit them before you are due to start.

If you don’t have an employer in place to support your chosen apprenticeship, select a full-time course on your application then tick the relevant box to identify that you would like to be considered for an apprenticeship. Once you have found an employer we will update your application and transfer you across to an apprenticeship.
