Many of those players are new arrivals at Jenner Park. There are almost too many new faces to name, including a number who are retuning to us at Barry Town United, so there’s a refresher for fans included in today’s programme.

For those who’ve been able to get to the pre-season games, which included three matches in Leckwith at the Cardiff International Sport Complex, some of them will be familiar faces, but for many fans they’ll be new to you tonight. Good luck to all of them at Jenner Park!

Next Saturday, 20th August, we travel to newly promoted Pontardawe Town’s Parc Ynysderw for a 2:30pm kick-off in the JD Cymru South. Our next home game is in two weeks’ time, Friday, 26th August, when Abergavenny Town visit Jenner Park, kicking off at 7:30pm in the evening. Similarly, best wishes to the players who departed Jenner Park in the Summer. Amongst others, they include Theo Wharton, who has gone to Newtown, Clayton Green at Pontypridd and Rhys Abbruzzese – who, of course, scored for Haverfordwest County against us in last week’s Nathaniel MG Cup match.

Intricate work by Fahiya and McLaggon outside the box set up Callum Sainty to fire home after 54 minutes, while Barry’s third came when a shot from outside the box was deflected into his own net by Lido defender, Jackson Hall.

The Port Talbot side took an early lead against Barry from the penalty spot, Liam McCreesh scoring, but were unable to defend against the Barry attack in a weather-affected game, with high winds coming off the Barrysea.had already equalised when McLaggon scored after half an hour, but bossed the second half.

Barry’s first game in the Cymru South was on a warm Friday night in Carmarthenshire in front of more than 600 fans at Ammanford.

However, in the 90th minute, man of the match Trundle scored his second of the game, and Barry had no time to get back in the match.

The home team took the lead through former Rhyl and Swansea City striker, Lee Trundle, who beat his marker before firing a low shot past Mike Lewis in the Barry goal

After finishing league runners-up in the Welsh League National Division in 1991-92, Ferry were founder members of the new League of Wales in 1992/93. Ferry were relegated in the league’s second season, 1993/94, replaced by Barry Town. They quickly bounced back, winning the Welsh League Division One in 1994/95. However, they again struggled to make their mark at the national level and were relegated once again in 1996/97.

were formed in 1985/86 by parents of children playing for Giant’s Grave FC. Over the years, they gained promotion through the local Neath leagues, the highlight being a six-trophy haul in 2005/06 that also secured promotion to the Welsh League.

After three seasons, and Llansawel finishing close to the Welsh League relegation zone on each occasion, the two clubs merged at the end of the 2008/09 season, joining forces for the benefit of local football in the town. Results were quickly seen. The Reds were promoted in 2011/12 from the bottom division of the Welsh League and, two seasons later, they finished second, behind Cardiff Met, to gain promotion to the top flight in 2013/14.

BRITON FERRY LLANSAWEL

Since then, Briton Ferry Llansawel have been ever present in the Welsh League top division, now the Cymru South.

Off the pitch, the club has worked hard to achieve the Tier One License that will allow them to play in the Cymru Premier, with ground improvements to floodlights, spectator seating and new dugouts.

For the next decade, Ferry retained their Welsh League status, but, by 2008/09, they had dropped to the Welsh League Third LlansawelDivision.

Briton Ferry Llansawel owe their existence to a 2009 merger of two local clubs, both of whom are proud of their respective histories. Briton Ferry Ex-schoolboys were formed in 1925/26, later becoming known as Briton Ferry AFC. They were promoted from the Swansea League to the Welsh League, where they spent many decades.

The second half saw the hosts regain their slender advantage, when a Josh Pike free kick missed everyone and found its way into the back of Bradley’s net. Nevertheless, Barry would bounce back once more, this time courtesy of a long-range strike of exceptional quality from defender Bobby Briers.

Thomas Walters Another member of Llantwit Major’s title winning team of last season, Walters is arguably the signing of the summer in the Cymru South.

Cullen Kinsella Experienced midfielder Kinsella joined the Ferry this summer after helping Llantwit Major achieve title success last season.

The 25 year old scored 27 goals in 32 appearances for the Major, making him top goal scorer in the league and helping to push the club to title success. So far this season Walters has scored two goals in the Nathaniel MG Cup but it won’t be long before he gets his first in the league based on last season!

Joe Hunt scored a hat-trick for Ferry in the win over Pontardawe, with Luke Bowen scoring two more goals. Bowen also scored the two goals in the win over Taff’sYnyshir.Well have also got off to an unbeaten start to the season. They beat Cwmbran Celtic 4-3 on the opening day of the season and then won 4-2 at home against Trefelin a few days later. Taff’s also played Trefelin in the Nathaniel MG Cup, winning that tie too.

JD CYMRU SOUTH

After two rounds of matches, only three of the JD Cymru South’s sixteen clubs have maximum points. They include our opponents tonight, Briton Ferry Llansawel, as well as Taff’s Well and Llanelli. Ferry are top of the league on goal difference, having scored ten without reply so far. That includes a 2-0 opening weekend win over one of the newly promoted clubs, Ynyshir Albions, and last week’s 8-0 win over Pontardawe Town, promoted as last season’s Ardal South West Division.

Taff’s Well had been 4-1 up in the game against Cwmbran before the home side scored two injury time goals. David Lyon scored in both of their league matches so far, including twice in the league win over Trefelin. Substitute Sam Webber also scored two in that win, those two late goals securing the points after Trefelin had equalised in the 86th minute. Llanelli are the third club with maximum points from the first two games. They beat Afan Lido 3-1 at Stebonheath Park in the opening game. 1-1 at half-time, the home side scored twice in the second half to claim the three points. In their other game, at home to Cwmbran Celtic, a goal six minutes from the end from Tim Parker was enough for a 1-0 Therevictory.are three further clubs with 4

points each from their opening games, a win and a draw apiece.

In sixth place, Goytre United’s win was a 2-1 home victory over Swansea University on the opening weekend. Goytre had taken a 2-0 lead before a tense last ten minutes. At home to Cambrian a few days later, Goytre went 1-0 down after half an hour, but were back on level terms by half-time, earning a point in the 1-1 draw. Barry Town United are in seventh place in the league after two matches, one of five clubs who have won one match and lost the other. Kayne McLaggon scored twice in the 3-2 loss away at Ammanford and also twice in the 4-1 win away at Afan Lido. Callum Sainty and an own goal were the other goalscorers at Lido.

Cambrian and Clydach were 3-1 victors over Carmarthen Town at home in the opening game. Liam Eason scored twice for the Rhondda club in that game. They drew 1-1 away at Goytre United in the following midweek, Ryan Prosser giving them a shortlived first half lead.

Celtic might have been unlucky so far, losing both games by a single goal, 4-3 to Taff’s Well and 1-0 to Llanelli. Abergavenny Town have been similarly unlucky, losing 4-2 to Pontardawe and 3-2 to Swansea LlantwitUniversity.Major took an early lead at home to Trefelin but lost 2-1 and then lost 4-1 at Carmarthen Town, while Afan Lido are bottom of the league on goal difference after their 3-1 defeat away at Llanelli and 4-1 loss at home to Barry. Ian Johnson

Pontardawe are the final of the five clubs with three points so far. Last year’s Ardal South-West winners, they had an opening day 4-2 win at home to Abergavenny Town, last year’s Ardal South-east winners. However, there was no quarter shown when they travelled to Briton Ferry Llansawel a few days later, with Ferry winning 8-0.

Ynyshir Albions, the third promoted club, have a single point from their 2-2 draw at Ammanford.
