Every carer has the right to be assessed under the Care Act (2014). Although an assessment may sound daunting, for us it is our way of getting to know the person behind the caring role. By having a conversation with our team we are able to better understand your circumstances, how you’re coping, the support network and resources you have available to you, and co-working with you to identify ways to help make your situation ‘the best it can be’. Following assessment, you will then receive a tailored support plan within 5 working days. And depending on what you may have told us, we’ll continue to support your progress along the way.
Assessments can be completed independently online, over the phone, via video call or face-to-face with an Adult Carers Support Coordinator. Forms and appointment slots can be accessed here: https://barnetcarers.org/carers-assessments/

We are not benefits advisors, therefore we are unable to assist with setting up benefits or financial aid. We do however have volunteers available to offer a form-checking service for selected benefits applications which offers any additional tips or guidance for how to strengthen your application. Any additional advice will require an external referral to a specialist agency.
We want to be with you throughout your journey as a carer. We want to help you to live the life that you want to while supporting your caring role. The roadmap of how will work with you is set out below.
What we don’t do
Barnet Carers is a charity that works directly with the informal carer. Although we can sometimes offer advice and guidance around the needs of the cared for person, we are not specialists in this area. We can provide a referral to Adult Social Care or another appropriate local service.
Although we are able to provide supporting letters for housing needs, as a service we do not have any influence into initiating new housing arrangements. Therefore we will signpost to other agencies where necessary.

The Carers Journey
As a service, we will always try to offer our expertise and advice as best as we can, but it is important to highlight some of the things we also cannot do to avoid any disappointment:
Housing matters
Getting to know the carer
We are unable to assist with any cleaning services or disposing of any unwanted items in your home.
Access a Carers Assessment, or registration.
Cleaning and clearing services
Although we understand there may be several reasons as to why individuals’ may be upset by a situation. It is important to understand that as a service we will not tolerate any form of abuse from individuals’ and have the right to terminate a call if staff are ever made to feel uncomfortable during a conversation.
The journey starts here.
Helping to achieve desired outcomes.
The first stage is identifying a carer.
Getting the carer to the best place we can.
Our mission is to “enable carers to thrive”. providing relevant guidance, knowledge and opportunity for the carer to feel able to self-manage.
Our service is entirely consensual, and by being registered with us it is at your discretion how you wish to use our services. We will provide regular updates and communication on all of our upcoming events and services, and it is entirely up to you on how you wish to engage and use these ser vices. It should also be noted that upon referral, if we are unable to make contact with a carer after several attempts then the referral will be closed. If a carer cancels any appointments, it is also expected that the carer is responsible for re-booking this appointment.
