hat a year 2020 has turned out to be. Not the happy thriving Westfield most of us enjoy being a part of. The Clubs and organisations in Westfield, some with representatives on the Community Council, had to cease welcoming their members whilst everyone was asked to Stay at Home back in March. This was particularly bad for those they were set up for e.g. Friendship, Lunch, sports clubs and exercise, Messy church, parents and toddlers – the list goes on. Then the events and fund-raising, all part of our year’s activities which we look forward to, were struck off our diaries. The Community Hall was unused for a time but still needed to be maintained and the garden was well tended, though only enjoyed by a few passers-by. Many residents joined in the weekly clap for the NHS and key workers, recognising that they had to go to work whilst running their own lives. Our food suppliers kept going with a good selection in Westfield reducing our need to leave the village. As the year progressed with constant shifting of the goal-posts, and differing opinions, on how to deal with the airborne infection, we are fortunate that the number of cases is very low in Rother when other parts of the country are far higher. It has been distressing that Westfield life, which normally caters so well for people who live alone and families alike, has been halted. The Parish Council organised the Community Support Line to help all Westfield residents but gettogethers remained on hold and into November too. Amongst our residents there are key workers who have had to continue going out – council workers, postal workers, medical staff in all areas including pharmacists, police, firemen, electricians and plumbers, farmers and food suppliers, shopkeepers etc…. so many, they all make up our community. A big thank you to everyone. Let us hope the new year turns a corner and there are better days ahead. Be kind, keep safe see you soon. Editorial on page 5

Editorial s we roll towards the end of this difficult year you will see by the content in this issue that Christmas hardly gets a mention. We don’t seem to be in the mood. Not only that but the deadline date for copy crept up, almost unnoticed, but many of the regular clubs are, of course, not operating anyway. How the social clubs are missed, along with our friends and family. The sight of the poppies on Churchfield green and the War Memorial was a mark of normality amongst our disrupted lives but also a reminder of the freedom we have come to expect due to the sacrifice of so many fighting for it. It was understandable that the infamous Westfield Christmas Lights event would be cancelled, but it is only the collection buckets, and we await the delight and colour that these bring for all to see at a safe distance. Christmas will be different but inventive ideas will arise. Christmas without extended family is not unusual in many households, mine included. Families are spread all around the world and often physical contact is months, even years, apart. However, it’s good to know that Santa Claus is still able to do his very special job. May I wish you a Happy Christmas, keep safe and well. Be kind. Pauline

YOUR COMMUNITY HALL – POST LOCKDOWN ARRANGEMENTS The Westfield Community Hall in Workhouse Lane reopened to Community activities in September. Alongside East Sussex County Council the Hall is run by the Westfield Community Association (made up of Parish residents and organisations). It might appear to some that it belongs to Westfield School. The School does hire the Hall during the in-term weekdays but the evenings, weekends and school holidays are available for bookings by the Community. We have several regular community focused activities in the Hall and, in normal times, is available for individual hirings for one off parties and events. Under COVID restrictions in place on 19 October, in order for the Hall to open there needed to be significant changes in the running and cleansing of the Hall by both the School and individual hirers, and in the number who could attend any one event. Therefore, no bookings were available for children/adult parties or where larger groups might gather. The Community activities are always looking for new members, so if interested please get in touch with the respective activity organisers, all of whom advertise in this Newsletter at one time or another. The activities which were operating in October, and COVID compliant, were: Saturday morning both halls Theatre Sense, Dance and more - Aged 5-18 Years Sunday pm Main Hall Pilates Monday evening Main Hall Short Mat Bowls Legs, Bums and Tums Tuesday Small Hall Brownies and Guides Wednesday Main Hall Legs, Bums and Tums Pilates Thursday Small Hall Tap Dance (Intermediate, Advanced) It looks as though it will be some time before COVID restrictions are lifted for us to be allowed to let the hall out for parties or other group activities. If, however, you are qualified to lead non-contact COVID compliant sessions with adults and would like to start up a new activity please get in touch with the Hall Manager Rachel 0786 689 4397 and we will consider your proposals. t this time every year (October) our article for the WCA Newsletter tends to be a round up of educational and fun activities and events. We would normally be able to tell you about our Harvest Festival, sporting achievements and school trips; we would be looking ahead to a range of exciting activities leading up to Christmas. Sadly, as is the case for all of us, life at school is dramatically different this year and we have not been able to enjoy the usual experiences.

A.M.B ELECTRICAL SERVICES

A few events have been able to take place. The whole school celebrated World Mental Health Day on 9 October by taking part in YoungMinds#HelloYellow campaign. The children were invited to wear something yellow for the day and took part in various mental health activities. £156 was raised towards YoungMinds to help young people and their families. Recently our Year 6 class were lucky enough to take part in a music workshop with a visitor from the Hastings Story Telling Festival. Unfortunately we are also unable to hold our Christmas Fayre this year, another casualty of the Covid Pandemic.

t the time of writing we have permission to restart meetings with strict social distancing guidelines from GirlguidingUK so we are working towards splitting the Brownies into two groups and having each group in for 2 weekly meetings before the end of the year. We are also setting up an email address so contacting the girls parents will be easier than at present and hopefully will soon have a private Facebook page so we can set the girls challenges and they can send us pictures and messages about what they are doing.

Guides have no plans to meet face to face at the moment but are aware of the constant changing of rules and hope to return in the future. During the long months of lock down I have found the time to sort the many photos I have from my 40 odd years as a guider and place them in some sort of order in albums and make scrapbooks of our many pack holidays. This set me thinking about all the girls I've met over the years. Some of you live, or have family, still in the village so I wondered if any of you would like to think about becoming guiders or could encourage girls that you know to become Brownies or Guides. We don't get the numbers we used to which makes it a struggle to keep the units going. I can be contacted on 01424 754927 or 0784 050 6426 or for just Guides Sally Alison’s no. is 0775 695 4422 9

Westfield WI

W

e are living in strange times at the moment. Everyone is missing our monthly meetings when we chat to friends, hear speakers talking on a variety of subjects and enjoy a cup of tea with a slice of cake. Currently we have no definite date to resume our meetings although we hope to start in the new year. This will, of course, depend on the Government guidance. We, at Westfield, have tried a few Zoom meetings to keep in touch. Some members enjoy these but many either don't have or are not comfortable with the technology. As we missed our regular summer lunch and our birthday celebrations have been postponed, the committee recently decided to buy each of our members a pot plant or bunch of flowers as a birthday celebration gift. These were greatly appreciated when committee members delivered them to each member in person. Photo: Westfield Birthday Floral Gift to Members A little history ~ Formed in 1915, the Women's Institute was originally brought to life to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation's aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK. In 1915, the first WI meeting in Britain was held in Anglesey (Wales). Only two years later, the National Federation of WIs, a democratic, non-party political and voluntary organisation, formed and mainly led by women who were involved in the suffrage movement. WI members passed the first resolution in 1918, urging local authorities to take advantage of the government scheme for state-aided housing. By then 137 WIs had opened. 1924 marked the year WI members sang "Jerusalem" for the very first time. It was specially composed for the WI and adopted because of its links with the suffrage movement. Little did the WI members know that their "performance" at the Annual Meeting in London would start a tradition that continues to this day. In normal times, the ladies of Westfield W.I. are able to provide teas for up to 50 people in the Parish Hall, subject to availability, other venue or at home at £6.00 per head. Please contact

The Court is in Session Again

Clerk of the Court: "Good morning. First on your list your Honour is theft by finding. Call the Crooked man." "Objection, Your Honour. I am Mr Ellis of Ellis, Ellis and Ellis". Judge: "Which one are you?" Mr Ellis: "The second Ellis, Sir. I represent the defendant. By referring to him as "Crooked Man implies that he has previous convictions whereas he is actually suffering from advanced arthritis". Judge: “Very well. The Court will forget that means of address". Clerk" The facts are Sir that there was a man suffering from advanced arthritis who walked a non straight mile, he found a bent sixpence upon an uneven stile. He spent the sixpence on riotous living, having made no attempt to locate the loser of the coin Your Honour." Judge: "Good enough. He can spend a fortnight in jail. Next" Clerk: "We now have a simple case of animal cruelty. Call the Farmer's Wife. Sir, this matter concerns three mice who were blind. The defendant saw them running and cut off their tails with a carving knife". Judge: "Well Farmer's Wife"? "I did Sir. We are over run with them" Judge: "Well, get a cat. Fined half a crown. Next". Clerk: "Theft again Your Honour. Call Tom Tom the Piper's Son. Sir, Tom Tom the Piper's Son, stole a pig and ran away. He ate the pig but was seen by some townspeople who gave him a good thrashing whereupon he ran away down the street". Judge: "What have you got to say for yourself Tom Tom"? I did it Sir but I didn't deserve to get beaten up". Judge: I'm surprised you could run anywhere having stuffed yourself full of pork, but I take fully into account that you have been, shall we say 'Physically Advised' already. I am minded to award a custodial sentence but I am playing golf later and we don't want to have to waste time filling out lots of forms so one year suspended, provided that you go on a diet and lose some weight in that time. Any more Mr Clerk"? Clerk: "Yes Sir. More animal cruelty. Call Little Johnny Green. This defendant Sir attempted to drown a cat by putting it down the well. The cat was only saved by a member of the public who witnessed the entire proceedings, namely Little Tommy Stout who got the animal out of the well". Judge: "This is most disturbing. I like cats. Well, Green, anything to say"? "Yes Sir, I'm sorry that I did it. I don't know what got in to me. I'm glad the cat was OK". Judge: "Right Green. 100 hours of unpaid work at the local cat's home, oh and a commendation for Mr Stout. Right Mr Clerk. I hope that's the lot because I'm off to play golf". Clerk: "Sorry Sir, we have a Fantastic English Bubbly Little matter of Bigamy to hear first". Judge Still & Fruit Wines "Bigamy? Good Lord". Clerk: "Indeed Sir. I should advise you that if you refuse to identify yourself I must award a custodial sentence". "Yes please Sir. I should like one month inside. I need a rest from them all and all their cats". Judge: "Because of you I will be late for the golf course so you can have two months. I hope that is us done now Mr Clerk"? Clerk: "Afraid not Sir. We have a murder" Judge groans." Shall I read out the facts of the case Sir"? Judge: "I suppose we shall have to hear them". Clerk: "Bring forth Mr Sparrow. On the day and date stated Sir, Cock Robin was killed by an arrow fired from the bow of one Mr Sparrow. This was witnessed by Mr Fly who saw the whole thing". Judge: "Well Sparrow, any explanation? Keep it short". Sparrow: " I did it Sir but it was an accident. I was cleaning it and it went off. Mr Fly saw the whole thing". Fly: "I did Sir. It was an accident. Everybody liked Mr Robin. he first part of the term back since September has gone really fast. The children have settled in well. It has been a busy time and lots of fun. There has been so much beautiful art work, see below, using autumn colours, leaf, conker printing and investigating the world around us, using conkers, pine cones, leaves, carving pumpkins.

I

It has also been a hard couple of months with all the changes and extra cleaning in place and I would like to say thank you to the staff for all their extra effort and hard work during these challenging times. Please join our Facebook page and see all the exciting activities we offer plus updates on We currently have a few everything spaces and anyone that is interested is welcome to happening drop in at any time; we are within our open Monday, Tuesday, setting. began writing this in mid-October when autumn had certainly got a grip with a real chill in the air in the early morning and the nights noticeably drawing in. We had a quiet harvest service in church at the beginning of the month. The lovely flowers and greenery reminded us of harvests past as did watching the video of Build a Bigger Barn. Janice played ‘We plough the fields and scatter’ and we danced out to Harvest Samba. We may not be allowed to sing yet, but we can still enjoy our favourite music. It was good to get back into the rhythm of the church year, only to be prevented from 5th November with Lockdown 2 apart from funerals and private prayer. We were having a communion service at 10am on the first and third Sundays in the month, then on the 2nd and 4th Sunday, a service of Morning Praise. On Wednesdays we had a communion service at 9.30am then the church was open for private prayer until 11.30. Yet again we look forward to the time when the church will be open every day but for now our wonderful churchyard will have to suffice, so wrap up warmly and enjoy the peace. You will find a new bench has been installed in memory of Michael French - a gift from his sister Gill in Canada. We cancelled the planned Remembrance Sunday outdoor service in the churchyard and hope people will mark the two minute silence and again on Wednesday 11th November at 11am. November is also a time of remembering the loved ones we have lost. Our plans for two Daffodil Services, by invitation, in order to limit the numbers attending to meet the requirements of social distancing met with mixed success. The first on 1st November went as planned but the second will be re-arranged as soon as lockdown is over. The threat of a second wave of Coronavirus became real when a four week nationwide lockdown began. It was already hard enough planning ahead for Christmas. There was already a ban on singing in church – Christmas without carols is very hard to imagine! We were working on some creative plans for celebrating the birth of Jesus among us including a new way of doing Christingle, as they take shape they will be on our website, Facebook and the village’s as well. Writing about Christmas makes me think about children and, thanks to Dawn, Messy Church has continued on-line every month since Lockdown 1. Youth church members had their first Zoom meeting in October which was surprisingly successful – it’s amazing how our IT skills have developed. Please contact Kathy Darvill (01424 751257) if you would like to join us. I do hope you continue to keep safe and stay well. It’s a year like no other we have known. In anxious times always remember to hand over your fears and worries to God and I wish you the blessing of encountering some of his perfect peace, not only at Christmas but through the New Year and all it brings. Warming Up The Homeless

www.warmingupthehomeless.org.uk

Registered Charity Number 1180417

This charity is based in Bexhill to support people in Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne who are not fortunate to have a home. Meals and hot drinks are provided to approx. 400 men, women and children per week. Urgently needed are donations of good clean clothes, toiletries and sanitary products to name but a few items. Many thanks to all the kind folk who donated items for Warming Up The Homeless. Mary Ashbolt and I had so many bags dropped off that WUTH sent a van over to Westfield to pick them up. However, now with the wet and cold weather, many items of warm and waterproof clothing are urgently needed, especially woolly hats, gloves and socks. Do please take a moment to look at the website to see how you may be able to help. Volunteers, in many guises, are also needed, so if you can spare a few hours a week / month, do give them a call 07367 060708. If you have any items to donate, please call Mary on 07871 642481 or Paul Billingham on 07814 995202, or look at What’s On in Westfield Facebook page. Thank you again to all those who donated.

When life returns to ‘normal’ -

Sedlescombe & Westfield Patient Newsletter (October 2020) Flu Special – Update on what is happening this year and why everything is different! All GP surgeries provide Flu clinics every year and many of you will be aware that this has always worked well in the past. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic and alongside the many other changes to the way we live and work, the flu vaccination process has also had to change to ensure we keep everyone, Patients and staff, safe. Also connected to Covid-19 pandemic, the Government announced that vaccines would be available for ‘extra’ groups - “Shielding patients” and their families and in addition those aged between 50 and 64 who did not previously require the vaccination. We are pleased that we can offer the aged 50-64 patients a vaccine but unfortunately, we have yet to receive information on how we are to obtain these additional vaccines. The manufacturers of the vaccine will not accept any orders from GP Surgeries and we haven’t any idea of when or if they will be made available. The latest information is that they may arrive sometime in November. We will endeavour to contact you when vaccines are available. The surgery staff and the Patient Involvement Group are doing all we can to help everybody to understand what is going on this year. We are very aware how confusing the current situation is at times and how concerned some people are feeling. We hope the following information will help! Why most vaccinations are not happening at the surgeries: Vaccinations are taking place at the Village Hall in Sedlescombe as mass vaccinations cannot be carried out safely in the Surgery in the current circumstances. The Surgery needs to kept safe for people who are sick, frail or elderly and we must do everything we can to keep both these people and everyone else safe. However, it is possible to carry out vaccinations successfully for large numbers of people in a big well ventilated space. Sedlescombe Village Hall was found to be ideal and is also much easier for patients and staff to park and to keep to social distancing rules. Appointments rather than “walk in” vaccination sessions: Patients are being sent a ‘Flu Vaccination appointment by Text (Or telephone call if they have no mobile number). The surgery has detailed records of who should have the flu jab and the sessions are being organised in order of clinical priority, this means people who are most at risk from flu are being vaccinated first.  Please do not worry if you have not been contacted yet! Please do not contact the Surgery with requests for the vaccination.  We have already carried out three sessions for our most high risk patients and are gradually working through the list at a safe pace. We are guided by the Government on the procedures we must follow.  If you would like to know more about how our vaccination process is working please see the short article below from a member of the Patient Involvement Group.  If you are interested in finding out a little more about some of the challenges faced by all GP surgeries during this difficult time, please see below. Finally, thank you for being so patient with us this year. We know it has been confusing and it may feel as though we are being unhelpful by not booking your vaccination but the staff, both clinical and admin are doing what they can in difficult circumstances and are under considerable pressure. -------

A Patient experience of our first Flu vaccination session: “We held our first Influenza vaccination session of this year at Sedlescombe Village Hall on Saturday 19th September. The surgery discussed this process with members of the Patient Participation Group in advance to help think about how this would work best! The vaccination session at the Village Hall was a very smooth system. Parking was plentiful; though patients turning up early did complicate matters and arriving early should be avoided if possible to ensure social distancing can be maintained. It is best to arrive only just before your appointment to help everything run to plan. On arrival our temperatures were taken to make sure we were not unwell. Then we went into the foyer where our details were checked, then into the main hall where two clinicians were set up to give us our jabs! Inside there was plenty of room for social distancing to be maintained and with no need for us to touch any surface, so limiting the necessary cleaning. From the temperature being taken to leaving the Hall took about 4 minutes.“ -------

The process ‘behind’ vaccinations: Our flu vaccinations orders were placed in November 2019 (last year) as is normal practice. We order enough to vaccinate all patients that were eligible at that time based on the take up the previous year, plus an additional 10%, just in case. But we now have considerably more vaccinations to provide and of course we could not plan in advance for this. To complicate matters there are now two different types of vaccine. They come from different manufacturers and have different delivery dates. The Surgery pays for these vaccines in advance and if they are not used, we have to throw them away and what we paid is lost. Normally at a flu clinic, we vaccinate one patient every minute. This year, due to Covid -19 pandemic, we have to schedule 3-4 minutes per patient so that we can maintain social distancing and do not have too many patients in the building at any time. Please look out for a text and further information on our website 23

November is the time when subscriptions become due and all members have received letters in lieu of the AGM. Unfortunately the Christmas Fayre will not take place either. If you appreciate seeing our lovely church as you pass on the A28 and wish to contribute to its upkeep, please contact the Treasurer, Roger Bowe on 01424 752728 More non-churchgoers subscribing as little as £5 a year would make a big difference.

ith all these present restrictions we are still unable to meet but hope that it will be possible sometime in 2021. At the time of writing I believe when the time comes we may be able to have social distanced tables of up to six with everyone remaining seated during the meal but this means we are going to need at least two new volunteers to set up and lay the tables, serve the meals then clear and sanitize the tables when the diners have left. All volunteers will have to wear masks while in the hall. If you would be willing to help with this please contact me on the number below. Apart from my initial thoughts for the future I'd like all members to know I'm still thinking of them and hope that they all keep well and safe. We are taking the opportunity to have a survey of the building, whilst it is not in use. The day was wet and windy but I was chuffed to complete the hilly Kent marathon course in a PB time of 3hr 41mins. So far I have raised just shy of £500 for Children with Cancer UK. A huge thank you to those who have sponsored and encouraged me during these strangest of times. e are very sad to have lost two of our great friends and colleagues recently. Charlie Fellows passed away on 8th September. Charlie was well known in cricketing circles in Sussex having played not only for Westfield CC but also for Crowhurst Park CC, Sedlescombe CC and Sussex Seniors. We were privileged to hold his funeral and wake at our ground, unfortunately the pandemic restricted the numbers attending which was a great shame. Our condolences go to Jackie and his family. Brian Scollay passed away on 15th October. Brian was also well known in cricketing circles in Sussex having played for Battle CC as well as Westfield CC and in recent years for the Sussex Seniors at all levels and had played in over 220 championship matches, he was also a regular Sussex panel umpire. He represented England Over 70s in the winning series against the Australians in 2013. Our condolences go to Gillian and his family. The truncated season finished on Sunday 11th October with a good win away to Beckley CC. We won all of our 6 games in the August Cup organised by Sussex Cricket to replace the league. We also played 13 friendly games, arranged by Kevin Baker, with a mixed success however we were only too pleased to be able to play any cricket this year! Well done to Patrick Edwards, in his first season as groundsman, and his dedicated team of volunteers for getting the ground ready in July and keeping it in condition throughout. The cricket square has been “put to bed” for the winter but the few jobs left were hopefully completed before the wet weather arrived. We would normally be starting our Indoor League campaign this month but this has been cancelled because of the pandemic. Sussex Cricket are planning for a full league season in 2021 and in addition Kevin Baker has already arranged 18 friendly games, hopefully we will be able to get a full season. We were really disappointed about having to cancel all of the cricket for young players particularly as it has taken us 4 years to build up the enthusiasm. However, we are looking forward to welcoming all of our youngsters back in 2021 for All Stars, Dynamos and Colts and the after-school club at Westfield School. The new pavilion build is still a challenge but we will get there in the end. In addition to the difficulty with funding, there was a new appointment at the ECB which has meant we had to make some internal adjustments to our originally approved design but I am happy to report that our new design has received ECB approval---unfortunately no funding with it! From everyone at WCC we hope that you will be able to enjoy Christmas, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2021. Westfield Tennis Club Twelve members played in a closed tennis tournament in September. Each player was drawn a partner and played all other members thereby keeping their own score. The top four players then came together for a one set final resulting in a 6-2 win. Mary Potterton (Secretary) and her partner Cliff Schubert played an exciting final to win against new member Denise Stewart and her partner Hamilton Williams. Players on and off the court were aware of the current covid restrictions therefore, on this occasion, food was not served due to the lack of space in and out of the clubhouse. All members enjoyed the challenge and concentration required to play in the tournament but equally welcome normal club play, particularly on Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings. For further details please ring Mary Potterton 752531 for further details. Photo: (left to right) Alan Potterton Chairman, Denise Stewart, Cliff Schubert, Hamilton Williams and Mary Potterton.

Window on Westfield ~ The Westfield Parish Council Newsletter http://www.westfieldvillage.co.uk/council-papers

Four Year Plan and Budget In line with good practice the Parish Council are starting the first draft of a four-year plan and budget. Much of the content of the plan will be based on the feedback received from the Resident Questionnaire carried out in March 2020. Due to the coronavirus situation work was delayed on preparing the plan but Councillors are back working to get a first draft ready by the end of the year. Once the draft has been approved by Council there will be another opportunity for residents to give their feedback. The two areas which residents saw as some of the most important issues within the Parish were: 1. Traffic including speeding, traffic calming and parking issues. 2. Environmental Issues including improving the bio-diversity within the parish, identifying areas for wild flower meadows and introducing more bee and butterfly friendly planters for the Parish Councillors are looking at all the feedback and working to put together the priorities over the next four years. It was really encouraging to see the wide range of activities and assets the Parish already has. The plan looks to build on this and work with the groups and communities within the Parish to identify gaps in provision as well. Although there was a great response to the questionnaire it has raised concerns about the groups within the village that did not engage. Councillors have noted this and will be looking at ways they can ensure that everyone within the Parish inputs into the plan. New Parish Council Website The Parish Council has launched a new website which is specifically for all items related to the Parish Council. On here you will find all details for meetings, policies and finances for the Parish Council. This will still link into the Westfield Village website. To view our new website please go to: www.westfieldparishcouncil.com 35

Broadband Provision with the Parish It was highlighted to the Parish Council by a resident about the lack of high-speed broadband in their area. Currently the Government offers up to £3,500 for businesses and up to £1,500 for residents towards the installation of gigabit capable technology (up to 1000Mbps), but East Sussex County Council has recently invested £500,000 so that vouchers can be topped up by an additional £1,000 - making up to £4,500 available for business properties and up to £2,500 per residential property. To be eligible you must: ※ Be in a rural area ※ Not be able to receive 1000Mbps ※ Not already have received an upgrade funded by the public purse ※ Businesses must meet the European Union definition of a Small

to Medium Sized Enterprise (SME) ※ Individuals can’t apply – it must be part of a group scheme of 2

or more To see if you’re eligible check your postcode at : https:// gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk/ If you are eligible please contact the Parish Clerk to enable the Parish Council to collate all of the households interested in taking part in this scheme. They are working with East Sussex County Council to try and get the greatest benefit for residents within Westfield Parish. Dog Bins The Parish Council is reviewing its current contract regarding emptying of the dog bins. If residents have any comments on the matter about this service or if there are any areas that an additional dog bin might be beneficial the feedback would be very welcomed. Please contact the Clerk at clerk@westfieldcouncil.org.uk with any comments.

Playgrounds within Westfield Can residents please abide by the Government’s rules about mixing in outside spaces. The playgrounds are remaining open although it is unfortunate that some residents have taken to removing the signs that have been put up. These will now have to be replaced at additional cost to the Parish. Please DO NOT remove the signage at the playgrounds. These are there for your guidance and so the Council can keep the playgrounds open. There is ongoing work to maintain the playgrounds. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to the slide at Churchfield as it was deemed a high risk. However, all the rubber wetpour has been taken up and recycled and the new grass is taking really well.

Westfield Christmas Lights has become a popular spectacle over the years raising much needed funds for St Michael’s Hospice. This year, due to the pandemic and now the second lockdown, there will be no cash collection or deliberate displays but individual properties must continue to send out a cheerful message. It is not possible to stop visitors but everyone’s safety is important.
