B&H Engineers is a growing engineering practice specializing in the design and consultation of efficient, innovative, and quality Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Technology systems. Our reputation is built on advanced technical abilities and superior performance leveraged by a team of gifted employees that work in a collaborative and encouraging environment. B&H Engineers was established 18 years ago with the knowledge that engineering has a profound ability to shape our surrounding environment and the way we live. Motivated to develop smarter solutions for the future, partners James Barron and Todd Abernathy founded B&H to provide high-quality engineering services to the DFW area while addressing a shortage of minority-owned businesses. Since then, B&H has performed services over a multitude of markets and cities nationwide, growing into one of the most respected MEP firms in the industry. B&H Engineers, Inc. is a Native American owned, certified SBE/MBE/HUB Engineering practice.
B&H’s design and consulting expertise covers a variety of market sectors, including municipal and federal, industrial, education, healthcare, hospitality and commercial office. Our past performance includes both new construction and extensive renovation and adaptive re-use projects. Within the following key disciplines, B&H can perform a wide variety of services regardless of project or delivery type.
B&H has employed four key core values that reflect how we as an organization, choose to operate individually and collectively. These values are critical to our success in meeting client objectives and help to guide us throughout our daily decision making processes.
Design Excellence To reach the deepest level of engineering design to achieve the clients mission
Innovation To discover new ways to create and add value to our clients and communities
Reliability To meet the needs of our clients and collaborators, whatever, wherever, and whenever required
Sustainability To provide the best for our employees, clients, and surrounding communities now and in the future
Marla was drawn to Mechanical Engineering. Although not always considered the most fun or exciting piece of a project, solving the problem of making all the pieces fit together and work the most efficiently clicked when she was in college and it continues to keep Marla engaged and inspired. From single room designs to multi-level layouts, she enjoys arranging the various pieces of requirements to create a framework for our client’s projects. Her experience and expertise are one piece of the puzzle leading to client satisfaction and completing a project.
Curiosity led Laura to Electrical Engineering, where she enjoys finding answers to complex problems. “There’s never just one right answer. There may possibly be an alternate solution, but even when you follow the standards, one solution doesn’t mean it applies to the next design.” She has helped design and layout a children’s hospital bed tower to a 72-room psychiatric hospital to 1 million SF campuses. This diversity drives Laura to do her due diligence and create responsive designs which have been recognized and appreciated by her clients for her problem-solving and efficiency.
Curiosity has been the impetus for Xiaobo starting as a child when he discovered the power of electricity by shorting out his condo in China. Although he now understands and respects electrical power more thoroughly, that experience sparked a career and became a driving force in his enthusiasm. As an Electrical Engineer, he feels there is always something new to learn, be it from prior designs to discussions with his coworkers. Building on those experiences, he strives to make each project better and more efficient. His projects continue to create curiosity and a determination to understand how electricity can be applied and harnessed for a safer and more efficient future.

B&H approaches each project with our clients in mind, and when it comes to the healthcare sector, we understand that health and safety are crucial components to patient comfort and care. This is why we aim to deliver tailored MEP systems that create engaging environments and support a wide range of functions. We respond to these needs and design structures to meet the architectural and engineering specifications according to each project’s requirements. B&H also has the capacity to work as an independent team for third-party reviews to ensure your project meets the necessary criteria.
B&H has an extensive portfolio in the Healthcare sector. For the last 16 years, our experience ranges from ground-up construction to reuse and existing buildings and interior finish-outs. We understand the unique challenges and requirements necessary to ensure medical facilities maintain their accreditation and remain up to county and/or state codes and standards. This ranges from assuring the proper air change rates for infectious control to non-aspirating faucets to robust generators to keep facilities online during power outages. We do this with a keen eye to short project timelines, budget constraints, and complex site restrictions. Listed below is a sampling of our healthcare experience.
