AtWCA,there'sastudentwhostandsoutnot justforhisacademicachievementsbutforhis extraordinarytalentinrunning.MeetMalik Ravenell,aneighth-graderwhosededicationto athleticshastakenhimtotheheightsofsuccess asaJuniorOlympian.

Malik'sjourneyintotheworldofcross-country beganwhenhewasjustayoungboywitha passionforrunning.Hisnaturalspeedand determinationcaughttheeyeofothersearlyon, anditwasn'tlongbeforehestartedcompetingin localraces.Witheachstride,Malik'sloveforthe sportgrew,andhisdreamsbegantosoarhigher thaneverbefore.Hisdedicationtotraining, coupledwithhisinnateathleticism,propelledhim tothetopofhisagegroup.Butitwasn'tuntilhe qualifiedfortheJuniorOlympicsthathistrue potentialbegantoshine.

Competingonthenationalstagewasadaunting prospect,butMalikfacedithead-onwiththe samecourageanddeterminationthathad broughthimthisfar.Representingourschool andcommunity,hesteppedontothetrackwith confidence,readytogiveithisall.Andgiveithis all,hedid.

Inadisplayofsheerathleticismandunwavering focus,Malikblazedthroughthecompetition, leavinghiscompetitorsinthedust,finishingas 180outof447forhisagegroup.Heclockeda personalbestof13:59,andalsoplaced5thout of29forRegion4.Witheachrace,hepushed himselftonewlimits,breakingpersonalrecords andinspiringthosearoundhim.Hisperformances werenothingshortofspectacular,earninghim medalsandaccoladesthatheproudlybrought backtosharewithhisclassmates.

AsMalikpreparestoleavemiddleschooland embarkonthenextchapterofhisjourney,wedo notdoubtthathewillcontinuetoshinebrightly, bothasanathleteandasastudent.Hispassion, drive,anddeterminationareaninspirationtous all,remindingusthatwithhardworkand perseverance,anythingispossible.

SERVINGOTHERS

IntheheartofAtlanta,amidstthebustlingcitystreets,liesa theAtlantaDreamCenter.Andthis year,our10thand11thgradestudentshadtheprivilegeofbeinga partofsomethingtrulyspecialasweembarkedonajourneytolend ahelpinghandtothehomelesspopulationofAtlanta.

Leavingbehindthecomfortsofourfamiliarsurroundings,weentered aworldthatchallengedourperceptionsandexpandedourhorizons. Ourdayswerefilledwithpurposeasweworkedalongsidededicated volunteersattheDreamCenter,servingmeals,organizingclothing donations,andprovidingmuch-neededsupporttothosefacing

Inthefacesoftheindividualswemet,wesawresilienceandstrength, butalsotheharshrealitiesofhomelessness.Yet,amidstthe hardships,therewasasenseofcommunityandcamaraderiethat transcendedcircumstance.Itwasahumblingreminderthatkindness knowsnoboundsandthatsmallactsofcompassioncanmakea worldofdifference.

Fromthelaughtersharedduringmealpreparationstotheheartfelt conversationsexchangedwiththoseweserved,ourtimeattheDream Centerleftanindeliblemarkoneachofus.Wediscoveredthepower ofempathy theabilitytoseeourselvesinothersandtoextenda handofcompassiontothoseinneed.

Butourjourneydidn'tendthere.Inspiredbyourexperiences,we returnedtoourclassroomswitharenewedsenseofpurpose, determinedtocontinuemakingadifferenceinourowncommunity.

Toourclassmates,teachers,andtheincrediblestaffattheAtlanta DreamCenter,thankyouforinspiringustobeagentsofchangeand forshowingusthetruemeaningofcompassion.Maythelessons learnedandthememoriessharedduring ourtimeinAtlantacontinueto guideusaswestriveto makeadifferenceintheworld.

EXPLORINGOURCAPITAL

Outsidethebustlinghallsofourhighschool,memorieswere made, friendshipswerestrengthened,andhistorywasexplored duringourunforgettabletriptoWashingtonD.C.Thisjourneywas morethanjustafieldtrip;itwasanimmersiveexperiencethatleft anindeliblemarkoneachofus.

Asweboardedthebuses,excitementfilledtheair,minglingwith theanticipationofwhatawaitedusinthenation'scapital.For manyofus,itwasourfirsttimevisitingthisiconiccity,andthe possibilitiesseemedendless.

Ourdayswerefilledwithawe-inspiringmomentsaswedelved intotherichtapestryofAmericanhistory.Walkinginthefootsteps ofgiants,wetracedthepathofournation'sfoundingatlandmarks likethemajesticCapitolBuildingandthesolemnLincolnMemorial. StandingbeforethetoweringfigureofAbrahamLincoln,wefelta profoundsenseofreverence,understandingtheweightofhis legacyandtheidealshestoodfor.

TheSmithsonianmuseumsbeckonedtouswiththeirtreasuresof art,culture,andinnovation.Fromtheawe-inspiringartifactsofthe NationalAirandSpaceMuseumtothethought-provokingexhibits oftheNationalMuseumofAfricanAmericanHistoryandCulture, weweretransportedthroughtimeandspace,gainingadeeper appreciationforthediversethreadsthatweavetogetherthefabric ofournation.

Yet,amidstthegrandeurofmonumentsandmuseums,itwasthe momentssharedwithfriendsthattrulydefinedourtrip.Whetherit wasbondingoverlate-nightconversationsinourhotelroomsor sharinglaughteraswenavigatedthebustlingstreetsofD.C., theseconnectionsforgedduringourtimetogetherwillremain etchedinourheartsforever.

AswebidfarewelltoWashingtonD.C.,weleftnotonlywith memoriescapturedinphotographsbutalsowitharenewedsense ofpatriotismandadeeperunderstandingofourplaceinthe ongoingstoryofAmerica.Thoughourtimeinthecapitalmayhave cometoanend,thelessonslearnedandtheexperiencesgained willcontinuetoshapeusasweembarkonthenextchapterofour lives.

This yearatWayneChristianAcademyhasbeenveryeventful.Wehavehadplays,sports,games,atalent shows,manyfieldtrips,andevenourveryfirstpeprally.Onethingthatstoodoutabovetherest,though,wasthe serviceprojectthateachclassparticipatedinforthethecommunity.Thisyeareveryhomeroomteacherwas challengedtothinkofanideatohelpourcommunityinsomeway.Whenaskedabouttheinspirationbehindthe serviceprojects,assistantprincipalRebeccaBrantleysaid,"Ifeellikesometimeswecangetcaughtupinonly learningaboutGod'swordandgainingknowledgeinsteadofactuallyapplyingit.Servingotherstakesanextra stepofcommitmentanditdefinitelyshowsthatwearefollowersofChrist."Assistantprincipal,ShawnYeomans, added,"Ithinkitgivesstudentsgreatinsightandalookintoourcommunity,aswell."

OneexamplecouldbewhenninthgradeteachersEllynHuntandKatiePateandtheirclassesservedatafood pantrytogiveoutfoodtothehungry."OurninthgradeclasseswenttotheJesupChurchofGodfoodpantry," Ellynsaid."WechoseitbecauseaWCAfamilyoverseesHopePantry,andwewantedtopartnerwiththemto impactWayneCounty."KatieisalsoamemberofJesupChurchofGod,andshepartneredwithWCAstudent FordCarter'smom,AmberCarter,tostartthefoodpantry.Whenaskedherfavoritepartoftheproject,Katiesaid, "Itwasknowingthatwehelpedprovideitemswesometimestakeforgranted.Imetaladywhocriedtearsofjoy forthecombandtravel-sizedshampooshereceived.Shewassograteful.Itwasahumblingremindertobe thankfulforeveryblessing-eventheonesthatseemssosmall."Whychoosethisserviceprojectinsteadof somethingacrosstheworld,youmightask?AccordingtoKatie,"IchosethisserviceprojectbecauseIthinkit's importanttohelppeoplerighthereinourcommunity.Wedon'thavetotraveltoothertownsorcountriestoserve orsharetheloveofChristintangibleways.WecandoitstartingrighthereinJesup."StudentsatWCAknowand understandtheimportanceofservingothersandgivingbacktothecommunityevenmorethankstothese projects.StudentSkylarEfawfeltthatthiswasanawesomelearningexperience:"Mrs.KatieandMrs.Ellynhave shownustheimportanceofgivingbacktothecommunitybygivingfoodforthefoodpantry."

OnelastexampleiswheneighthgradehomeroomteacherCindyValosentookherstudentsandshowedthem theimportanceofcaringforpeople,notonlyinourcity,butalsopeoplewhoareinothercountries."Wemadea care-packageforafriend'shusbandbecausehewasabouttodeployandIwantedtomakehimfeelspecialand wantedtoteachthestudentstheimportanceofhonoringsoldierswhentheyaredefendingourcountry."An eighthgradestudent,JesseZhao,reallyenjoyedhisserviceproject."Ourserviceprojectwastoprovidefora soldierinAfrica.WewenttothepostofficetogetaboxandthenwenttoWalmarttogetsnacksandcandy.After thatwewentbacktothepostofficeandloadedtheboxandputapictureofourselvesintheboxandthensentit off."Hewentontosay,"Myfavoritepartwaspickingoutthetreatsandfoodforthesoldier.Ialsolikedthatit mademefeellikeIwasgivingbacktothemforwhattheygavetome."

Ontheotherhand, HankYoderandKatieKinnabothagreed thattheirfavoriteplaywasthe Who Dunnit murdermystery.But,ZoeyCannon debatedthatherfavoriteplaywas Esther .Asyousee,Ms.Paulette splays areallsogoodthatheractorsare controversialovertheirfavoriteones! WayneChristianAcademy,haslongbeenabeaconofacademic excellenceandspiritualgrowth.Foryears,studentsandfacultyalike havethrivedwithinitswalls,fosteringasenseofcommunityand camaraderiethatissecondtonone.Andnow,astheschoolcontinues togrowandflourish,anewchapterissettounfold onethatwillsee therealizationofalong-cherisheddream:theconstructionofitsvery owngymnasium.

Foryears,WayneChristianAcademyhasbeenabeaconofacademic rigorandspiritualnourishment,guidingstudentsonapathofdiscovery andgrowth.Yet,asourschoolcommunityhasexpandedandevolved,so toohaveourneeds.Witheachpassingyear,ourathleticprogramshave flourished,drawingmorestudentstothethrillofcompetitionand camaraderie.Butwithoutadedicatedspacetocallourown,our athleteshavefacedlimitationsthathinderedtheirfullpotential.

Theannouncementofthenewgymnasiumsentripplesofexcitement throughouttheschool,sparkingarenewedsenseofenthusiasmand anticipationamongstudentsandfacultyalike.Formany,theprospect ofhavingadedicatedspaceforathleticevents,practices,and communitygatheringswasnothingshortofexhilarating.

Asplansforthenewgymnasiumbegantotakeshape,theentireschool ralliedbehindtheproject,comingtogethertoraisefundsandsupport theconstructionprocessinanywaytheycould.FromTheJingleBell Runtocommunityfundraisersandgenerousdonations,theWCAfamily pulledoutallthestopstoensurethesuccessoftheendeavor,and continuestomakefundraisingeffortstobuildthebestgympossible withease.

Andnow,asthegroundbreakingceremonydrawsnear,anticipationisat anall-timehigh.Thenewgymnasium,withitsstate-of-the-artfacilities andmodernamenities,promisestobeahubofactivityandexcitement foryearstocome.Notonlywillitprovideahomefortheschool's burgeoningathleticprograms,butitwillalsoserveasagathering placefortheentirecommunity,fosteringasenseofunityandpride thattranscendstheboundariesoftheschoolgrounds.
