Virtual Leadership Bakersfield Energy Class Day Session

ue to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Leadership Bakersfield Energy Day was held virtually. Students were given an overview of the energy industry in Bakersfield and Kern County by top energy leaders. First, a panel was held called “Energy Today – Current Challenges and Opportunities,” which was facilitated by Kern EDC’s Richard Chapman, and featured panelists Willie Rivera of Aera, Rob Duchow of SoCalGas, and Suzanne Noble of Western States Petroleum Association. Students were able to hear from Bakersfield and Kern’s top energy industry leaders on the economic importance of energy in our region, as well as the potential future of energy in California. Students learned about the different types of energies and how they often partner together to create something dependent and sustainable for the future. California Resource Corporation’s Joe Ashley spoke to the class separately about the environmental and regulatory issues that the energy industry is currently facing. At the

Norma Dunn is the Deputy Director at Mission Community Services Corporation’s (MCSC) Women’s Business Center in Bakersfield. Norma's passion for education and business, combined with her engaging personality, has earned her a reputation as a high-impact networker. This community leader has accomplished planning and executing strategies that are both effective and efficient. In addition, she has assisted private, public, and nonprofit organizations with forging successful partnerships.
