Y
outh Leadership Bakersfield kicked off the 2020 program on Jan. 8 with Leadership and Ethics Day, which introduced 34 high school students to qualities that define a leader. The day started off with a variety of interactive icebreaker activities. Throughout the class session, students learned about each other and how to communicate and work better in teams. Mayor Karen Goh; Devin Brown, the county’s Chief Human Resources Officer; and Megan Person, Director of Communications, discussed what it takes to make government entities run efficiently and different ways to get involved with local government. Robin Paggi of WorklogicHR, presented the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for the class members to understand their personality and traits. Based on their profiles, students completed a series of exercises. The class session wrapped up with a discussion on ethical leadership by Dr. Michael D. Burroughs, director of Kegley Institute of Ethics at CSU Bakersfield. The Chamber would like to thank Youth Leadership Bakersfield Day Chairs Patricia Marquez, Dignity Health Management Services; Joseph Marcano, Kern County District Attorney’s Office; and Lauren Skidmore, Office of Assemblyman Vince Fong. Thank you to our day sponsors Jake’s Tex Mex Café and WorklogicHR. METRO | PAGE 7
