Exciting Jams with a twist!

SPECIALIST TIMBER COATINGS & TREATMENTS MANUFACTURER OF THE MONTH

The Jam Lab was founded in 2020 by Shaquille Hinds. After working as a chef in Michelin starred restaurants across Europe, Shaquille dipped his culinary knowledge and experience into creating unique jam flavour combinations that you will be hard pressed to find in any supermarket.

The taste of these jams will be with the fruit first, followed by a balanced complimentary flavour. All of the jams are dairy free and suitable for vegetarian and vegans.

The mouth-watering array of Jams include Banana & Chocolate, Sliced Pineapple, Peach & Passionfruit and Pear & Ginger Jam among many others, and there really is something for every tastebud!

Shaquille recently exhibited at the amazing BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham, and the Jam Lab was among the inspirational products for you to taste and buy for the perfect summer picnic. Theses jams can be eaten as a spread on toast, sandwiches, croissants or crackers and cheese, and they will elevate your porridge or rice pudding and give a unique twist for desserts in cake, pancake and doughnut fillings.

One Facebook reviewer commented, “Fantastic flavour, sweet/savoury with the perfect amount of spice –delicious! Highly recommended” – time to try for yourself?

In this issue of Products & Services Review, we are pleased to announce Protek Products as our Specialist Timber Coatings and Treatments Manufacturer of the Month.

As winners of the Family Business of the Year Award at the 2022 Somerset Business Awards, Protek prides itself on its excellent customer service and has done since the company began in 1981. Started by husband-and-wife team, Eric and Janet Thornborough who recognised in the early 80’s that environmentally friendly products could be used to develop a waterbased wood preservative. After some extensive R&D, they came up with a range of water-based paints and timber treatments for the shed and fence manufacturing industry, and Protek Products was born.

“We are very proud of the service we give to our customers. We are always available at the end of a phone to discuss colours, projects, and orders. We manufacturer everything at our Somerset factory, ensuring good lead times, and can be highly responsive to colour trends,” stated Harriet Farquhar B.Sc. Joint Managing Director.

Protek currently provide a large range of water-based paints and timber treatments to a varying customer base including large timber merchants, the garden leisure industry, garden buildings companies, architects, and individuals. Many of Protek’s paints over the years have been used on TV programs such as ITV’s Love your Garden and Channel 4’s Great Garden Plot with Prue Leith. Further to these services, the company still also provides concentrated treatments for the shed and fence manufacturing industry across the country.

In recent developments, Protek has just launched two highly performing products for the construction industry.

ESP Panels and ESP Timber, both of which are ideal solutions for those working in or as Timber merchants, DIY stores, garden centres, or completing a garden/ upcycling project.

ESP is a collaboration between GTC (Gloucester Timber Company) and Protek. The ESP range is designed to prevent the ingress of moisture into timber products, which has been an age-old problem within the timber industry for many years.

Harriet explained more on ESP Panels, “ESP Panels is an edge sealant for panel products such as plywood. The edges are sealed which stops the ingress of water and the delamination of the panel product. They are independently tested and proven to make plywood stronger and last longer.” These are perfect for external use and high-humidity areas as the product ensures that any holes or air pockets are completely covered. The application can be with a brush, stippling the product into any voids and overlapping the corners of the edge/face by around 5mm.

ESP Timber is a water-based end grain timber preservative and is to be applied to any cut, bored, or drilled pressure treated timber to ensure it maintains its user class. The innovative formulation has been designed for use against wood rotting fungi and, mould and other growths on hard surfaces. In order to maintain the integrity of the protection, it is vital to always apply an end grain preservative treatment to freshly exposed areas.

Protek has been transforming gardens for over 30 years and has remained consistently professional throughout. With some personnel changes in 2017 that saw the retirement of Eric and Janet, their two daughters, Harriet Farquhar and Rebecca Rackstraw have since held the sole responsibility for the running of the business.

Witnessing a huge increase from customers who developed an interest in gardening throughout the COVID-19 lockdown, the demand for paint was unprecedented. Fortunately, for Harriet and Rebecca the trend continued and has helped propel Protek to the forefront of the industry as one of the leading timber coatings and treatments manufacturer.

2023 looks promising for the company as it looks to increase its sustainability profile. “By sourcing and formulating with the best and most sustainable products available, we hope to develop further our environmentally friendly product range,” said Harriet. As the company increases its range, its customer base will also inevitably grow. Ready to welcome new clients and show them the world of Protek, long may customer reviews such as ‘Your company's approach to your customers shows the true value of your family run business’ continue.

Argent Energy Fuels

Helping to decarbonise the world through the use of renewable fuels

Argent Energy is the UK’s premier supplier of distilled High Blend Biodiesels to the transport sector.

Incorporated in 2001, Argent have supplied millions of litres of High Blend Biodiesel to hundreds of bus, coach, and truck depots across the UK, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by thousands of tonnes.

All companies operating in the transport sector understand the need

to drive down CO2 emissions from their businesses, not only for themselves, but also for their customers. There may be no silver bullet to deliver net zero carbon emissions but there are many alternatives, and Argent’s High Blend Biodiesel is a simple drop-in-replacement for fossil fuel that can decarbonise your fleet at little or no additional cost and with minimal action required to switch immediately.

Being the first biodiesel producer accredited under The Zemo Partnership’s Low Carbon Fuel Assurance Scheme,

lucky enough to have everything in-house from CAD design to manufacturing and can get to work straight away.”

CP Cases take pride on implementing cuttingedge research into the factory through employing engineering graduates from the Queen’s University Belfast with latest KTP Associate, Alex McNabb, currently helping to digitise the manufacturing process within the factory to create a more efficient workflow.

In 2020, the company expanded

its UK site to incorporate a rotational moulding facility increasing its service capability and there are future plans to upgrade the CVC machines. With 90% of the orders requiring customised manufacturing, the company can now increase its global exporting of cases.

Supporting the dream of green energy, with the help of Industry 4.0

The 2015 Paris Agreement has forced many countries to present long-term strategies and nationally determined contributions (NDCs) to reduce emissions. One strategy is to transform waste into usable fuels and Raven SR is a clean fuels company dedicated to achieving this. However, the company uses a process that requires high temperatures and precise

control to maintain efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

To streamline Raven SR’s energy transformation process, industrial heating technology company Watlow provided extensive expertise in thermal system design, as well as Industry 4.0 control.

Raven SR is a clean fuels company that transforms municipal solid waste, organic waste and methane into high-quality,

clean hydrogen and synthetic fuels. These synthetic fuels are Fischer-Tropsch synthetic fuels, meaning that they are produced from a gas-to-liquid polymerization technique that converts carbon monoxide and hydrogen into liquid hydrocarbon fuels that can act as substitutes for petroleum products.

On a Roll!

Printed laminate containing over 30% PCR content

Cake Décor is the UK’s largest manufacturer of cake decorations, producing extensive ranges for Plant Bakeries, Blue Chip Food Manufacturers, Artisan Businesses and Major UK Supermarkets.

They were founded in 2006, owned by Orkla since April 2021 and have built a strong reputation for quality product and the highest customer service. They have a ‘right first time’ approach to NPD and have innovation at their very core, so when Waitrose wanted to change to printed film for their Ready to Roll Icing it was an easy discussion to have to suggest changing from a traditional laminate to one with post-consumer recyclate to beat the Plastic Tax being introduced in April.

According to the Government website, the new tax is being introduced to “Encourage the use of recycled rather than new plastic within plastic packaging. This will in turn stimulate increased levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste, diverting it away from landfill or incineration.”

“Moving to a PCR film was made easy by working with National Flexible. It ran first time on our packing lines and both we and Waitrose are very happy with the result,” said Robert Simpson, Cake Décor. T 01274 685566 sales@nationalflexible.net www.nationalflexible.co.uk

How does the supply crisis and rising costs affect food safety?

From Peter

Food safety has to remain top priority

The cost of energy, raw materials and transport has soared in recent months with global markets in the midst of a deep supply crisis. As we entered a phase of market restructuring post COVID, the invasion of Ukraine and the isolation of Russia has dealt us another blow, with energy and raw materials supply issues fuelling market instability.

A situation that means increased focus on reducing costs as a priority. How do you do this without compromising food safety and avoiding other more serious problems related to health, safety and reputation? And this is not just a UK but a global challenge. Reducing cleaning and disinfection is incompatible with ensuring food safety. Optimising is not cutting back, rather, it is about finding new, more efficient and sustainable tools and products that can lead to savings in time, water and energy consumption, which are the main factors contributing to the cost of hygiene operations. This is where a hygiene partner plays a key role, providing advice on establishing routines and standards that ensure the suitability, quality and effectiveness of the services provided.

Beating obsolescence in specialist equipment

Obsolescence issues beat on the door of any organisation that operates complex engineering equipment. Specialist equipment manufacturers such as Drallim already seek to ensure that their products provide a very long life, but this is now being driven even harder by end users aiming for greater sustainability and ‘green’ credentials. In truth it just makes great economic sense to the user and creates real customer loyalty, while minimising global resource consumption.

Drallim has been committed to longevity of its products throughout its 60+ years of trading. Indeed, examples of its Rotary Selector Valves, Compressor Desiccators and Cargo Hooks are regularly returned for service and repair with some having

seen over 40 years’ continuous service. Obsolescence issues are inevitable over this sort of period, but careful management and planning have allowed them to provide these very long product support periods. Electronic equipment

provides the most significant challenges and even over relatively short periods of just a few years component availability can dry up suddenly, as has happened for many users during the COVID crisis. Establishing long term support contracts

with key customers allows planning ahead to mitigate problems arising by using smart procurement techniques, stocking of components and or redesign exercises.

Increasingly Drallim Industries is seeing demand from new customers for obsolescence review and reverse engineering services to produce vital spare parts with a failed supply chain. Projects have included special manufacture of obsolete metals, redesign, and qualification of electronic assemblies through to reconstruction of specialist fabric assemblies and redesign of cast or forged components for low volume supply.

Hosted by Grand Designs’ Kevin McCloud, the show featured brands, expert talks and demonstrations giving visitors the chance to discover new products and explore the latest technologies and designs across build, kitchens and bathrooms, gardens and interiors.

As a new feature to the 2022 show, Green Living Live launched alongside Grand Designs to focus on how we can all work towards building a sustainable future.

Green Living Live was dedicated to showcasing ecofriendly products and services from companies that

The UK’s leading drilling contractors

Dragon Drilling hit the ground running at the Grand Designs Exhibition 2022 where visitors and other industry professionals were both excited and interested in its Water Boreholes and Ground Source Heating services.

Serving many leading renewable heating installers nationwide, Dragon Drilling are experts in installing ground source boreholes. Ground Source Heating is both innovative and sustainable utilising the earth’s natural heat resources to, reduce fuel bills and carbon emissions. The heat that is harnessed from below ground can then be used to heat homes, domestic buildings, or commercial facilities anytime of the year.

Capable of producing three or four times the energy put into the heating system, Dragon’s ground source heating services

can deliver heat 24 hours a day, for both hot water and heating. It is also reversible to provide cooler temperatures for the summer. The ground source system replaces your fossil boiler, can add great value to your property, if you’re wanting to sell and can also help reduce your carbon footprint.

If you’re looking to establish a self-sufficient water supply, Dragon Drilling also specialise in the design, installation and maintenance of Water Boreholes. This is particularly useful if you currently use large

volumes of water and are faced with costly meter charges from your mains supply. It offers a reliable pressure and is ideal for farms, caravan parks, leisure facilities and properties with unreliable water supplies. Boreholes are drilled to extract water from underground and Dragon Drilling offer the complete service including water treatment. If you have a high water demand then the borehole can pay for itself within two to three years.

My name is Caron Mcluckie, I am a 56-year-old mother of three children, Theo, 27, Emile, 20 and Esther, 18. We live in Stockport and for nearly 30 years I have worked as a mental health social worker. In January 2016, Emile had suffered a spinal cord stroke which had left him paralysed from the chest down. Emile has coped with this traumatic event; his resilience is astounding. Emile has no bladder or bowel function, and we must selfcatheterise to empty his bladder.

It soon became clear, once we got into our daily routine, that clothes did not fit him properly while he sat in the wheelchair. More importantly, even the

comfortable joggers that Emile likes to wear did not provide easy access to catheterise. After looking around the market I couldn’t find anything suitable, so I designed my own bespoke joggers with a unique opening to enable comfortable dressing and self catheterising. They are higher at the back to avoid sagging while sitting and transferring to ensure everything is covered! The joggers have a slim fit leg (which is fashionable presently) and we will also have a regular fit for people with more muscle mass on their legs, to ensure a better fit for different disabilities and all shapes and sizes.

have manufactured and distributed fall prevention and detection products for over 25 years. We specialise in products for one-to-one care, or small groups in a Care Home or Hospital. Our systems are robust, easy to set up and use, and have a proven track-record in helping to reduce falls, in domestic and professional care establishments.

How can they help reduce falls?

Many falls occur when a person at risk from falls leaves their bed or chair, particularly during the night. By detecting an exit from the bed or chair early a carer or guardian gains time to attend and help the person, usually preventing the fall.

What options are available?

Medpage supply a diverse range of equipment for detecting bed and chair exit. There are for example, simple bed alarms, chair alarms, or multiple use products for combining bed and chair monitoring, to allow the person to move from their bed to their chair. There are systems that use a cabled pressure mat sensor connected to an alarm controller, or pressure mat sensors with a self-contained alarm transmitter to signal a radio pager. Carer alarm notifications can be by a single or multiple user pager or alarm receiver, or an external alarm device. You can find out more at: www.easylinkuk.co.uk/ product/product-fall-detection

A small investment in care home furniture can lead

Rise and recline chairs enable residents to sit with their feet elevated and their backs reclined. This is extremely comfortable, plus a great position for circulation, joint pain and relaxation. To change position, just press a button; good news for pressure sore avoidance. The same applies when the resident is ready to leave the chair… tap a button to gently stand. Usually, care home staff are responsible for helping residents sit, get comfortable and stand. And let’s be realistic, this is demanding physical work. So not only do rise and recline chairs improve quality of life for the resident, they are immensely beneficial for staff too.

As for adjustable beds, it’s the same story. Residents may need to sleep at an elevated angle, or with their feet raised, depending on health needs. They may require help getting out of bed, and some adjustable beds do that too. Again, these are aspects of care that usually involve staff bending at awkward angles.

The impact of appropriate care home furniture can be measured in monetary terms; better health saves money. But more importantly, they can be assessed by the quality of life of residents and staff alike. The simplest changes can have far reaching consequences.

Life without boundaries

Alife without boundaries is now a very real possibility for many amputees with the new Freedom QUATTRO Knee by PROTEOR.

This latest Microprocessor Controlled Knee (MPK) from PROTEOR harnesses the power of Hyper Active Real Time Technology (H.A.R.T) Control Technology to track individual walking styles and respond to changes as fast an anatomical knee. It’s the first MPK to provide a distinctly personalised experience resulting in a custom gait which users describe as the ability to ‘walk like me’ but that’s not all this powerful MPK has to offer.

MPKs can have a significant effect on what is achievable for those that find using prosthetic limbs for higher impact activities like golf, cycling, and dancing, challenging. The Freedom QUATTRO offers 20 customisable, activity-specific modes; such modes allow the behaviour of the knee to be tailored based on individual needs whilst performing a given activity. The result is a knee that supports you to not only take part in but also enjoy your favourite activities. A great example of this is Golf Mode, which limits the amount your knee flexes while playing golf.

Modes are easily controlled from the Freedom Innovations patient app. The app gives patients a degree of control over the device by allowing you to fine-tune it and keep your movement comfortable by

altering settings like resistance by up to 10%. Clinicians also have a specialised app – Gait Lab, allowing simple set up in clinic for both the prosthetist and patient, minimising time spent in clinic and giving you more time to do the things you love.

The Freedom QUATTRO also features key functionality like on-board keypad control allowing you to check battery status, manually switch activity modes or set and release flexion lock, IP67 water ingress certification, and a manual lock conveniently located in the app or via the knee keypad.

Jade, a patient who recently trialled the MPK said, “The QUATTRO knee has genuinely changed my life, I’ve never felt as normal as I did with it! Its capabilities were amazing, I even went back to the gym, which

DISABILITY MATTERS

Digital care management system streamlines patient care

Healthcare Matters recognises ingenious practices in healthcare systems and this month would like to award AutumnCare the Company of the Month Award for outstanding computerised care innovation.

AutumnCare is a revolutionary electronic care management system designed to eliminate time-consuming paperwork in residential and domiciliary care settings. Providing total integration between care planning, medication compliance management, risk reporting and family communication on one electronic platform allows for person-centred care and clinical governance.

Chris Sharman, Sales Manager AutumnCare explains the modus operandi, “We help care services improve their efficiency, strengthen compliance, and reinforce the delivery of best practice care, all through the implementation of innovative digital solutions. We are making many lives better.”

Before establishing AutumnCare, years of meticulous research looked at frontline care industry needs in conjunction with user-friendly electronic databases. Company founder and Executive Chairman Stuart Hope launched AutumnCare in 2002 to appreciative care companies across the UK.

Beverly Walton Care Home Manager from Whitehaven Rest Home noticed the difference to her care staff team immediately, “We changed to AutumnCare in January 2019 and there were so many positives. The team really listen to feedback, changes are made and we are involved in the development process.”

The AutumnCare Desktop records staff profiles, staff competency reviews and access to eLearning staff training portals. Staff can safely administer patient medication on the electronic medication administration record (eMAR) and restock at the touch of a button on AutumnCare Medicate. The Medication reporting system is fully complaint with The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) The public body of the Department of Health and Social Care. This effective

reporting device eliminates risks of missed medication incidences and allows for trained nurses to complete their rounds quicker.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) the care regulatory body has reviewed AutumnCare’s electronic healthcare system and commented, “Care records were personalised and had been regularly reviewed to reflect people’s care needs. Care Plans contained information about people and their care needs.”

Person-centred planning is paramount to AutumnCare and the AutumnCare Desktop allows for comprehensive reporting from resident profiles and care plans. The AutumnCare Family system links to the AutumnCare desktop by allowing family members to sign care plans and runs a portal to post photos of residents to family members.

Internet outrage and hacking are everyday mitigated risks in electronic healthcare across the UK.

AutumnCare has offline functionality providing safe continued access in the event of an outrage allowing staff to focus on primary care needs of residents and patients. AutumnCare fully understands the risks posed by cyber-crime including data hacking and malicious malware. A dedicated team of IT experts conduct regular, robust data security testing to ensure the

smooth running of the systems and are available for user technical support.

AutumnCare is certified by The Cyber Essentials Scheme run by the National Cyber Security Centre.

The AutumnCare Desktop is also available as a mobile app. Nurses can quickly access the app from the point of care allowing for a streamlined care reporting system.

AutumnCare is a worthy recipient of our Company of the Month Award for its comprehensive electronic care management system designed by nurses for nurses. Chris Sharman explains why he thinks AutumnCare is the leading digital solution package in the elderly care sector, “We have the most comprehensive clinical document set on the market. Unrivalled by our competitors, this contains hundreds of forms, charts and assessments to capture detailed data on your residents. Embedded clinical best practice tools and prompts throughout the system ensure the delivery of the highest quality care at all times. We are also able to develop bespoke interfaces and custom-made forms and assessments.”

VSSAcademy provides a pathway of implant training for registered private dentists practicing across the UK. Established in 2002 by renowned oral surgeon Dr Fadi Barrak, the Academy is now based across Coventry, Birmingham, Glasgow and London. Dr Fadi Barrak is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and Senior Lecturer at The University of Lancashire. As course lead for the MSc Clinical Implantology and the Certificate in Implant Dentistry, he is responsible for the cutting-edge curriculum content. The MSc comes so highly recommended that places fill up quickly, Alan Goldie Managing Director confirms, “Our courses offer comprehensive up-to-date training in implant dentistry. We recommend early bird 2023 applications now as our intake is filling up quickly!”

The MSc runs across two academic years on a part-time basis allowing registered dentists to balance

clinic work with further studying. Hybrid learning is offered throughout the UK and Ireland with a fully blended learning curriculum.

With expert supervised teaching and clinical patient surgeries, dentists leave the course with an MSc in Clinical Implantology from UCLan. The MSc has received rave reviews from previous students like Ashish Pandit, “The course has great faculty members and I had heard great reviews from other professional colleagues. The part-time nature of the course allowed me to navigate clinical practice with further specialised knowledge of implants.”

VSSAcademy provides the knowledge modules from hand-picked faculty associates and UCLan partners with the latest clinical trial research and academic journal reviews to inspire dissertation choices. It is the perfect professional collaboration and with the personal touch that VSSAcademy offers students are well looked after. Alan Goldie explains why pastoral care is so important to the students, “We want to create a lifelong connection with our Postgraduate students. Universities are often blindsided by their own business philosophies.

Undergraduate dentistry pupils have now been given the exclusive opportunity to study a short course on Medicine for the Dental Professional usually only reserved for second year MSc students. It is this ability to think outside the box by offering bespoke courses that has afforded VSSAcademy an excellent dynamic reputation within the industry. The nature of implant surgery requires access to human tissue and students are lucky enough to have access to a specialist unit at University of Warwickshire & Coventry to learn and practice surgical skills in a safe environment.

This clinical access ensures that VSSAcademy is at the forefront of medical and digital changes in implant surgery providing students with the latest vanguard technology.

Dentists that have been restoring implants for years often come on the cadaver course and are inspired by complex case placing. The course gave Dr Nicola Ritchie a new ‘thirst for knowledge.’

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is essential in dentistry to enable dentist professionals to offer a full range of surgical expertise and VSSAcademy offers a leading certified pathway for the dentists of the future.

Nutritional iron deficiency

The world’s soils (UK included) are very low in minerals. There is a direct link between soil health and human health, starting with the nutritional value of crops and “In the last ten years there has been a decrease in iron concentrations in green leafy vegetables by 43%” according to Dr Zoue Lloyd-Wright BA. (Hons)., BSc (Hons), Ph.D. Further studies show absorption of iron supplements in healthy individuals as low as 37%, and many consumers report unwanted side effects. This can be due to the condition of the iron atom as well as other variables such as gastric acid production.

The Health Factory Nano* Iron completely bypasses the gut,

is absorbed as nanoparticles directly into the cells (unlike many conventional iron supplements) and does not require solubilisation in the stomach prior to its uptake. It is 100% pure, bioavailable,

Show 2022 also offered a Strep A Test and Treat Service that involved many training workshops throughout its opening hours for anyone who wanted to register.

The next edition of The Pharmacy Show will be taking place on Sunday the 15th and Monday 16th of October 2023 at The NEC in Birmingham.

Centred Solutions

Agrowing number of community pharmacies are turning to hub and spoke models for repeat prescription dispensing.

Centred Solutions, experts in hub and spoke technology, has seen significant growth in the uptake of the model over the last 12 months with pharmacies investing in automation and becoming early adopters ahead of proposed legislation changes.

Managing Director, Paul O’Hanlon, said Paydens Pharmacy, Medipharmacy and Pearl Chemist were among the first to start using variations of the FLOWRx Hub automated solution in centralised dispensing facilities where medication is dispensed for pharmacy spokes. Benefits of this central fill model include freeing up time in store for face-to-face patient care, reducing the risk of human error in the medication dispensing process, significant cost savings coupled with the ability to grow revenue.

Other pharmacies using FLOWRx Hub include Lalys Pharmacy, Peak Pharmacy, Sigcare, AR Pharmacy and Lo’s Pharmacy.

“The beauty of our solution is it is scalable so customers can implement it in stages at a relatively low cost. ExPD: Barcode tracking, data capture and collection systems

ExPD showcased their MICS system at this year’s Pharmacy show. This is typically used in unmanned pharmacies for controlling medical stock and prescribing to patients. The system allows for an accurate track of meds providing visibility of stock levels, reorder state, use by dates, recalled items etc. The system directly accesses the DM&D database for consistent NHS product info and uses GTIN barcode scanning to ensure accurate data recording.

Additionally, ExPD demonstrated integration to smart cupboards/ lockers to provide ease of access to meds and the removal of manual keys and locks. Secure access to the cupboards is granted by the

MICS system to dispense medicines where set criteria is met.

Some of the benefits of using MICS include:

: Reduced reportable clinical incidents

: Increased speed and accuracy when issuing meds

: Gain complete visibility and

control of all medical inventory

: Meds and CDs are inaccessible to all but the issuing prescriber

: Manage inventory by batch number, expiry date and time in stock

HEALTHCARE WATER PRODUCTS COMPANY OF THE MONTH

A safe and energy efficient drinking solution for mental healthcare

Healthcare Matters would like to award Hotspot Titanium our Company of the Month Award for its innovative solutions in healthcare water products.

Hotspot Titanium evolved from Inventum: A Dutch company primarily interested in innovative ventilator heaters and water appliances. With its headquarters still based in The Netherlands supporting mainland Europe there is now a corresponding sales office in Sheffield supporting UK customers. Jerremy de Jongh, Marketing Manager elaborates further, “We have fifty years of specialised filtered drinking water experience. Hotspot Titanium develops, manufactures, and

distributes high-quality conditioned water taps, heaters and chillers for various target groups. We aim to offer our customers an energy efficient way to stay hydrated. For each sector: healthcare, workplace and domestic residential, we have developed a unique range of products. Depending on the type, our products deliver a combination of boiling, chilled and ambient water. We also provide customer service and with warehouses in both the Netherlands and the UK, we can deliver quickly.”

Hotspot Titanium has developed a ground-breaking product: Qura for the healthcare sector in mind. The Qura range offers instant filtered chilled water and hot controlled water from titanium tanks for residents and staff of residential care and mental health homes. The tanks are water regulations advisory scheme (WRAS) certified offering assurance and peace of mind. With a two-button colour coded halo interface the operations are user-friendly for all residents. With Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards in mind the water temperature can be pre-programmed using smart electrics from android apps or iOS-remotely.

Titanium is one of the strongest, non-corrosive materials and is resistant to limescale residue offering integrated protection against microbial contamination. This mineral stabilisation technology uses solenoid valves to safeguard against the risk of contamination. With five filtration levels in a single filter cartridge and seven bypass levels, the Qura water filtration is exceptionally high quality. The filters are easily replaced which don’t necessitate the main water supply being turned out, for ease and convenience of larger residential care homes. The Qura chiller can offer upwards of 30% savings on electricity costs, which is advantageous during the current energy crisis, allowing care homes to save money on other aspects such as wellbeing activities for the residents.

One of the biggest problems in care homes is dehydration amongst residents due to memory loss or other health

conditions. The chillers can produce between 95-300 glasses of chilled water per hour perfect for usage during meal times negating worries of dehydration. The chillers have been ergonomically designed with health and safety in mind and there are no sharp edges, allowing for reduced ligature.

With a 20-year warranty offered on the Qura range and priority call-outs that are guaranteed to all care homes, the product offers peace of mind for all managers and staff.

The Hotspot Titanium team will be showcasing its product range, including the new Qura bowl: an indestructible sink and tap at this year’s Design in Mental Health Show from the 7th-8th June at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Leaders in intelligent, creative solutions for Curtain Track and Blind Systems

Within this issue of HealthCare Matters, we have selected leading curtain track and blind manufacturer Goelst, as the recipient of our Industry Excellence Award.

Goelst UK Ltd was founded by Rolf E Goelst in 1979, starting out as a sole trader in interior products; its UK branch was created in 1991 in Harrogate. The company has expanded and gained unprecedented growth within the industry since the company’s inception. As an international company with its headquarters based in Holland, Goelst distributes its products across the world, supplying the global contract market with an

“We are firmly at the quality end of our market.” Mark continued, “We offer a level of service that our customers have come to recognise and understand adds value to their brand. We provide a level of support that gives our customers the confidence to turn their design specification into a deliverable solution.”

Leading the industry in intelligent solutions and creative innovations, Goelst maintains an expansive array of interior products and is versatile for an array

expansive range of high-quality curtain rail and blind systems. Providing fixing options for most surface finishes, Goelst offers an abundance of solutions to meet customers’ requirements including bespoke preformed options to accommodate a customer’s specific requirements and needs.

“Our curtain rail systems can be manual, electric or cord operated,” explained Mark Reeves, Director, “Our products are available in component form for our contract customers who prefer to carry stock, or assembled systems ready for installation. We offer excellent technical support, on-site support, and comprehensive advice to ensure the client gets the right product for their requirements. Over the past few years, we’ve been increasingly involved in developing highly technical products with designers and architects, so we have a really broad offering.”

Goelst maintains its own Research and Development department, enabling the company to create intelligent and creative innovations. Boasting numerous patents and design protections, Goelst are well equipped in creating revolutionary products that meet the highest standards and sets a high standard across the industry.

of industry. Among some of the industries that Goelst has provided for include hospitality, healthcare, commercial, automotive and marine.

With a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility, Goelst endeavours to ensure that its products remain as eco-friendly as possible. With production taking place in the Netherlands, the company is able to monitor its CO2 footprint and ensure that they provide the lowest possible CO2 emissions.

A new development for the company, Goelst’s latest offering is the G-Motion electric curtain track system.

“This features a technically advanced motor design to suit almost any application – it’s been received very well so far,” Mark explained.

G-Motion’s modular design means the system has an outstanding set of standard functionalities, including self-setting end positions, curtain protection systems, numerous switching modes and speed options, tandem motor systems, and a variety of input voltages. Notably, through the variety of protocols G-Motion contains, it is easily integrated with home automation systems. The G-Motion range is adaptable and compatible to use with Goelst’s existing high quality curtain tracks and accessories. It also features strong impact resistant synthetics and aluminium rail profiles, which are powder coated to a very high standard, allowing them to be curved yet still delivering silent and smooth operation. Sourcing the highest quality materials, such as Teflon allows the internal components of the

G-motion system to be hard wearing, Self-lubricating and UV-resistant. Due to G-Motion’s adaptability; custom options are available with features such as bending the rail to various radii and custom colours and finishes for made to measure projects.

In terms of the future plans for Goelst, Mark explained how the company plans to maintain and grow its dominating market presence. “I feel we have built a really solid foundation,” Mark said, “And in the short-term, we plan to continue building upon it and supporting customers. In regards to the long-term, we plan to continue with our organic growth, with plans to invest in new and updated equipment to allow is to increase our product portfolio and the range of services we offer.”

2022 has been a very positive year for Goelst, with the completion of a number of interesting and technically challenging projects and participation at trade events. We asked Mark about how the last 12 months has

been for the company. “It has been a very positive year! In what is still an extremely uncertain market, we have exceeded our expectations yet again.” Mark continued, “The G-motion programme has been complete for over 12 months, but due to cancellations over the last two years, 2022 was the first opportunity we have had to introduce the product to the trade at an exhibition, and the general reaction was extremely positive.”

Speaking once more with Mark about how the company feels about receiving our Industry Excellence Award, he told us that he feels, “We’re honoured! It’s amazing to be recognised for the products and services we offer and I feel immensely proud of the company and staff – It’s a real team effort at Goelst, we are nothing without the dedication and support of our staff.”

BATTERY CELLS & SYSTEMS & VEHICLE ELECTRIFICATION EXPO REVIEW – TOP EXHIBITORS

One event for four connected industries

Battery Cells & Systems Expo is the UK’s largest battery technology conference. One event brings together four connected industries co-located with The Vehicle Electrification Expo, The Advanced Materials Show, and The Advanced Ceramics Show catering to all those involved in automotive manufacturing, electric utilities, battery system integrators, cell manufacturing and the entire manufacturing supply chain.

The event took place last year on the 29th-30th June 2022 at the NEC in Birmingham. The two-day exhibition delivered platforms of education, inspiration, networking and lead generation opportunities as well

as bringing together some of the biggest leaders and innovators across the industry.

The Vehicle Electrification Expo 2022 opened the eyes of automotive manufacturers to the latest powertrain solutions used to improve the

Lab cell up and running!

Over the past two years, Robafoam have been working on an exciting new venture. In 2020, we opened our first Battery Electric Vehicle lab cell, with the support of both the Coventry & Warwickshire Green Business Programme and Coventry City Council.

The robotic cell is part of our R&D Technical Centre, its main purpose is to provide support and testing for automotive customers. This includes designers and those who work in R&D who have been tasked with helping Britain achieve the government set goal of only producing fully electric vehicles by 2030.

One of the most significant and demanding challenges for the production of BEVs is the sealing of the large battery packs. Water ingress can obviously result in a significant fire hazard. A current option includes bonding the packs together with an adhesive which, although ensures a very effective seal, makes the separation of the pack for necessary servicing very difficult.

That’s where Robafoam’s sealing solution comes into play. Our robotically applied foam can provide

performance, efficiency, safety and sustainability of vehicles. Hundreds of exhibitors gathered to display their latest technology in electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturing.

The 2022 expo was a huge success housing over

4,500 industry professionals who came together from around the world to witness the launch of new products and demonstrations of the latest technology. This year’s show will take place on the 28th-29th June 2023 at the NEC, Birmingham. This is our pick of the best exhibitors from last year’s event, listed here in alphabetical order: Robafoam & Würth Elektronik ICS. Further details can be found below.

water-tight IP rated seals which overcome many of the problems presented by these companies. Battery packs can be opened and closed without needing to remove the seal or causing the effectiveness of the seal to be compromised. Our Technical Centre has been designed to accommodate the size of the battery packs required for electric vehicles, to help with both R&D purposes and for full production requirements too.

For more information about Robafoam, please contact us on: 01926 336231, email: uk@robafoam.com or visit our website: www.robafoam.com

Innovative electric drive systems play a crucial role in achieving climate targets and creating greater independence from the standard drives of today. Würth Elektronik ICS is keeping the momentum moving forward in the voltage range of 48 to 1,000 volts with its robust and highperformance power distribution units (PDUs).

Alongside digitalisation, autonomous driving and networking, electromobility is one of the four megatrends that is causing a stir not only in the automotive industry, but also for manufacturers of commercial vehicles, construction and

agricultural machinery. The European Union is aiming for an 80 to 95% reduction in CO2 by 2050 (compared to 1990), thereby only reinforcing this trend. We support our customers in achieving these goals. To this end, we primarily offer high-voltage solutions in the 48 to 1,000 VDC range, for example, high-voltage power distribution units, junction boxes or carrier boards for battery cells, in addition to the traditional products for 12/24-V electrical systems, which are also used in electric vehicles.

High-voltage solutions

Würth Elektronik ICS develops customer-specific high-voltage PDUs to electrify highperformance drive systems. These PDUs ensure stable and secure connections in the voltage range of 60 VDC to 1,000

VDC for optimal distribution of power between battery, on-board charger, inverter and other consumers such as heaters or DC-to-DC converters. The PCBbased solutions in proven pressfit technology deliver space, cable and cost-saving designs, low contact resistances and high levels of mechanical stability.

LEATHER GOODS COMPANY OF THE MONTH

Exclusive leather company turns 70 this year

away in 2019 and he is sorely missed by many in the industry. We are carrying on his legacy of selling highquality leather goods at a competitive price point and I have taken on the role of Managing Director in his absence.”

Products and Services Review are delighted to introduce Golunski as its Company of the Month for its exclusive specialist small leather goods.

Michael Golunski came to the UK as a Polish refugee and founded M Golunski & Co in 1953. Jim Mercer was Michael’s first retail customer after previously focusing on the wholesale market. Jim’s eldest son, Jamie Mercer later purchased the business in 1982 working alongside Michael for two years. Jamie continued local manufacturing until 1999 when manufacturing was moved to the Far East where it remains today.

Jamie was well known and respected by many in the industry. His strategy of maintaining high stock levels with a diverse range of value for money products solidified the company’s high reputation. Jamie’s wife Joyce elaborates further, “Unfortunately Jamie passed

The family-owned company sell a wide-range of leather items including ladies wallet purses, gents’ notecases, mini bags, credit card holders and travel accessories. The high-end accessories are made from an assortment of leathers including cow hide, sheepskin, goatskin and exclusive Italian leather. One notable collection described by Joyce is the beautiful Caribbean range.

“The stunning Caribbean range remains one of our bestselling ranges. This is sold in a variety of bright multi-coloured options and is supplemented by classic solid colours for those who may be feeling less adventurous. A wide collection of ladies wallet purses in styles, sizes and price points ensures that this range has something for everyone.

“Our gents’ notecases remain highly popular despite increased mobile contactless payment. We were concerned that increased e-payment would affect

sales, particularly on our gents’ products, but our collections are just as popular as ever.”

Golunski offer a number of core ranges alongside fashion ranges that are launched in Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter supporting current trends.

Products are sold to both national and independent retailers including members of The Associated Independent Stores (AIS), which is the UK and Ireland’s lead buying group.

“We sell to a wide range of small independent retailers, department stores and garden/visitor centres. We are loyal to our customer base and wouldn’t take on a new customer if there was a conflict of interest in the local area, however we are always on the lookout for new customers so we’d be happy to take any initial enquires. We are represented at all the major trade shows and via area sales agents.”

With an impressive 70-year track record, this company knows all things leather and

prides itself on selling high-quality accessories. In the future, Golunski will continue to sell popular items but also experiments with new products, “Our mini-bags have proved very popular so we have extended our range this Spring/Summer due to customer demand. We also sell a small range of products made entirely from eco- friendly materials.”

It is this combination of producing hand finished leather goods using traditional methods and new innovative ideas that keep the family run business at the forefront of its competitors. Joyce and her team know that customers want to examine and touch the leather products to see and feel its true beauty. With this in mind, Golunski leather products will be on show at numerous trade exhibitions throughout the year including the INDX Womenswear show and the Spring Fair in February and the Home and Giftware show in Harrogate in July.

Bee the change you want to see

Established in June 2019 by Managing Director Lamar Allan, Royal B Essentials is a London-based company providing affordable natural health supplements powered by the beehive. The company has the most natural supplements on the market that uses small, sustainable packaging to minimise its carbon footprint.

Royal B Essentials only use premium quality ingredients in its products. There are no bulking agents, or artificial ingredients resulting in all the supplements made also being 100% natural and gluten free.

The company believes that nature is intelligent because it is a living organism, connected with a biodiverse network. It is self-healing, self-sustainable and life-giving, and Royal B Essentials is working to help the community acquire the knowledge and values required to build good habits for a sustainable, healthier, happier life.

Lamar commented, “One benefit that separates us from our competition is our encapsulation process. We use

pure honey as a food preservative which has natural anti-bacterial enzymes and sugars that stop bacteria cells that could otherwise contaminate. We go one step further and seal our two-piece vegetarian capsules with a nitrogen bubble to ensure the freshness of each and every supplement.”

Products include CoQ10 with Royal Jelly, a unique energy formula which is an essential supplement to support mitochondrial health both for men and women aged 30+. Royal B Essentials uses Ubiquinol as this is the most effective form of Coenzyme Q10.

The latest supplement is Vitamin D3 5000 Ui with Bee Pollen which is the strongest dose of vitamin D available on the market. The company has recently launched a subscription service which offers 15% off all supplements on its website.

One of Royal B Essentials’ objectives is to build a community who share the same vision of making our planet a better place, and the company believes

that there is no better place to start than saving the bees. Their contribution to agriculture and biodiversity through pollination provides us with a healthy ecosystem that frankly we cannot live without. Today Bee populations have been declining since 2006 due to climate changes and dangerous pesticides, and the company aims to be part of the solution.

Lamar continued, “My plan is to collaboratively launch a campaign fundraiser next year to highlight these

issues, educate our nation on the importance of the bees and raise money to provide mushroom mycelium for the 220,000 British beehives across the UK. By improving the health of the bees, the domino effect this will have on our biodiversity, agriculture and economy is exponential.”

Royal B Essentials has produced hive-powered remedies, that are sustainably sourced using natural active ingredients for increased bioavailability, and these products are available across the country from the website, social media and Amazon UK. As they look into the future, the company intends to expand its product range and the accessibility of its products across the world. Alongside the recent addition of new team members to manage core parts of the business, the company has a bright future ahead.

Autumn Fair 2022 took place on the 4th-6th September 2022 at the Birmingham NEC. Autumn Fair is marked as the marketplace of the season for the home, gift and fashion industry, getting you ready for retail’s busiest time of the year. Whether you are a UK or International retailer, independent, multiple or online, designer, contractor or supplier, the show is a great way to meet and engage with other industry professionals and get a head start on the buying season.

Bean Brothers Coffee Company

Hereat the Goodship Bean Brothers, this incredible vintage rum infused coffee was in development for nearly a year. When the time came to unleash this beauty, little did we know how well it would be received, by both our customers and industry professionals.

Captain’s Grog was awarded the highest accolade of three stars by the judges at the Great Taste Awards. Judges commented, “Well roasted beans with the distinct aroma of the rum. A wonderful, rich, fruity aroma gives a stunning flavour profile, rich with fruity raisins and warming rum but with the coffee singing. A very exciting coffee with all the different ingredients working in harmony to produce a delicious and well judged drink.”

This special coffee was developed by our head roaster inspired by his love of sailing. We have taken a classic Guatemalan bean and slowly infused it with a fabulous 23 year old vintage rum from Mexico – Ron Los Valientes. It has a warming rum flavour, providing a restorative treat.

The Travelling Bee Company

Here at the national award winning Travelling Bee Company, our mission is to supply you with the highest quality honey and that’s what we do. Our honeys are all 100% raw and unprocessed, nothing added, nothing infused, just the way the bees make it. At the Great Taste Awards 2021 & 2022, we received a host of awards including two of the rare 3 Star awards.

Thanks to our loved and cared-for bees, we extract only the honey they can spare. We then employ natural beekeeping practices such as hand spinning the honey out of its comb, we then filter and pour our honey into jars, this ensures the natural taste is uncompromised; The taste our honeys are renowned for. We produce honey from our bee hives across

the North East of England, Northumberland and Scotland. In our constant search for the finest honeys, we’ll even source from further afield bringing a vast range of honeys of the world to your doorstep.

Aside from honey, we also produce a range of award winning organic soaps, organic balms and hampers, which make for ideal thoughtful gifts.
