t Baghera/wines, we love telling stories.

To tell a story is to pass on knowledge, share an anecdote, and reveal a legacy. At the heart of the greatest wines lies this very desire for sharing: an ancestral expertise enriched by new knowledge, allowing for continuous improvement and offering unforgettable tastings.

The Burgundy wine region is a land of history and passion. Its prestige dates back to Gallo-Roman times, as early as the 4th century. However, it was the monks, followed by the Dukes of Burgundy, who shaped and enhanced this wine region, structuring its terroirs and defining the Climats, now protected by the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2015.

With its 32,000 hectares of vineyards, representing 4.3% of the French wine-growing area, Burgundy is an exceptional land, globally recognized for its prestigious appellations. Among its five sub-regions, each with unique climatic and geological characteristics, the Côte de Beaune stands out particularly.

Stretching over 20 kilometers from Ladoix-Serrigny to Maranges, the Côte de Beaune covers approximately 5,000 hectares of vineyards. While it is home to the world’s greatest white wines, it also boasts villages producing red wines with distinctive

personalities. The twenty communes that compose it host a variety of wine estates, where family-run operations play a central role. Heirs to a savoir-faire passed down through generations, these winemakers strive to preserve the Climats and promote Burgundy wines both locally and internationally.

Established in Côte-d’Or since the 16th century, the Gaunoux family embodies this tradition of excellence. This deep-rooted heritage gave birth to Domaine François Gaunoux, whose history is written with each vintage. The title of this auction perfectly reflects the essence of Claudine Gaunoux and her ancestors: a symbiosis between the attachment to the Climats of Burgundy and the transmission of family values.

My encounter with Domaine Gaunoux happened gradually, first through individual tastings, then at the heart of the estate itself, alongside Claudine, her husband, and their children. Together, we conceived this auction as an echo of their story.

A diligent and passionate worker, Claudine inherited from her father, François, a work ethic deeply rooted in tradition, while incorporating technical innovations and ever more advanced equipment to enhance each vintage. She always insists that she learned everything from her father, François Gaunoux, and is very grateful for his advice and trust. Today, at the helm of twelve hectares in the Côte de Beaune, fully owned with prestigious premier crus and two monopoles,

she is now joined by her son Louis, who has recently completed his studies. Day after day, with dedication and care, she instills in him the values that drive her: respect for the terroir, unwavering commitment, and the strength of family heritage.

In the estate’s cellar, several thousand bottles rest, witnesses to the time that shapes wines and elevates each vintage. This true family treasure embodies the meticulous work of four generations, from Claudine’s great-grandfather, Alexandre Gaunoux, to the vintages she has crafted since 1999. Each bottle reflects the terroir and the steadfast commitment of the winemakers who have succeeded one another, uniting respect for the land with innovation in service of the vine and wine.

These witnesses of the past and present will have the opportunity to express themselves fully at this unprecedented auction to be held in Meursault on March 16th.

Dear clients, dear enthusiasts, we invite you to discover the history of Domaine Gaunoux, where every bottle resonates with an unbroken passion and where wine remains, above all, a celebration of sharing.

Cheers, Camille Balboux

« T’as bien bossé.

If God exists, what would you like to hear him say to you after your death?

I don’t know… “You did a good job. You worked well and we’re going to have a glass of Meursault !”

And what would you drink with God?

A Clos des Meix Chavaux!

What vintage?

2013, my first vintage, for which I worked so hard.

Claudine Gaunoux, interview conducted at the Domaine on February 6, 2025
