The variety of scented and flowering species on this stage, through one of the most beautiful regions in the Nockberge National Park, is the result of the alternating calciferous and crystalline primary rocks. Three summits have to be conquered before you reach the destination of this stage, the Falkerthaus; they are the Predigerstuhl (2,170 metres), the Pfannock (2,254 metres) and the Mallnock (2,226 metres).

From the Pfannock you go downhill again, past the Pfannseen lakes in an easterly direction as far as the Oswalder Bocksattel, across the Rote Burg to the Brunnachgatter, where you change to hiking trail 161, which takes you up to the Mallnock (2,226 metres). Once you have reached the summit you follow the WW 1 hiking trail to the Oswaldeck and then the hiking trail to the Falkerthaus. This tour is classed as moderately difficult.

Description

Starting point of the tour

This hike starts by leading westwards via a road for around 30 minutes until just before the Feldhütte lodge. At the road junction you will come to hiking trail 171 which runs northwards, and initially you will walk along the south of the Zunderwand rock face until you are below the Törlwand. Finally you will hike through a field of dwarf pines to Lake Nassbodensee. The geological structure is very obvious here, as the rock is constantly changing between chalk and primary rock. From Lake Nassbodensee the route continues in a north easterly direction. Before the Törl (a gate in the rock) you cross a very steep section of Alpine meadow, and then on the Törl there is an open view to the north. The trail then continues along a high plateau to the Predigerstuhl (2,170 metres), from which you have a very good overview of the remainder of the tour. You now descend to the

Erlacherhaus (im Langalmtal in Kaning)

Description Summary

Directions On our arrival we come through Kaning, a mountain farming village at more than 1,000 metres above sea level, which is thought to have been founded around 1,000 years ago. We walk past several Alpine farms along the Langalm Valley to our starting point. From the Erlacherhaus the tour first takes us along an Alpine meadows access road until shortly before the Feldhütte lodge, where we change to hiking route number 171 in a northerly direction and then continue to hike to the Zunderwand by Lake Nassbodensee.

flowers and herbs. On the ascent from the forest area we come to the open Alpine meadows and catch sight of the imposing Zunderwand rock face, from which the summit cross of the Predigerstuhl shines down. Our ascent leads us on to the foot of the Zunderwand, where we change to hiking trail number 13 which runs through a field of dwarf pines to Lake Nassbodensee. From Lake Nassbodensee we continue across the Törl and up to the Predigerstuhl at 2,170 metres above sea level. From there we enjoy a wonderful view of the Nockberge Mountains as far as the Carnic and Julian Alps, as well as to the glacier of the Hochalmspitze. We also have a very nice view of the Erlacher Bockscharte, where the traces of the former mining industry can still be seen clearly. We continue across the Erlacher Bockscharte (from here we can take a small detour and stop for a rest at the Erlacher Bockhütte mountain lodge) via hiking trail number 14 onto the Pfannock (2,254 metres), which is the highest point of this stage. On the summit of the Pfannock we can already see to the Mallnock and to the Pfannseen lakes at the foot of the Pfannock. We continue past the Pfannseen lakes to the Rote Burg on hiking trail No. 161 to the Brunnachgatter. After a short ascent we reach the last peak of this stage, the Mallnock (2,226 metres). From here we can once again enjoy the beautiful panorama of the Nockberge Mountains before we head via the Oswaldeck to the Falkerthaus.
