Gallery 1 - Piano Action Exhibit Description: (2) Section models (grand and upright) of piano action mechanisms are displayed. They are protected by glass with single key exposed. Visitors press the exposed key and observe how that depression translates to the rapid motion of a hammer, and the striking of the strings. Learning Objective: To understand the myriad materials/parts required in the making of a piano To understand mechanics (i.e. leverage, escapement, rebound, balance, To understand how these translate into sound

Gallery 2 - All-In-One Keyboard
Exhibit Description: A full keyboard synthesizer is paired with a digital screen. Visitors use the screen to choose from pianos and organs represented in Galleries 1 and 2. The selection activates the keyboard interface, and the visitor is invited to play in the sound of selected instrument. Learning Objectives: To experience the different sounds produced by the surrounding pianos and organs. To learn how mechanisms vary between keyboard instruments. (Monitor used to demonstrate mechanism of chosen instrument.)

Gallery 3 - Air Travel
Exhibit Description: As a companion to the mouthpiece display case, a digital interactive illustrates how sound is produced through various vibration means. Animated graphics show how air travels through/across reeds, lips, and vocal chords. Musicians are shown playing their horns. Sample mouthpieces are mounted outside the case for a tactile opp. (Include segment addressing plastic mouthpiece acquired at entrance) Learning Objectives: To understand how sound is produced through various mouthpieces (reed, double reed, free reed), lips, and vocal chords.
