It is the largest artery in the human body. It leaves the heart after the aortic valve and passes through all the organs, finally dividing into the iliac arteries. About five liters of blood pass through the aorta per minute. Normally the artery measures about 2.3 cm in diameter in men and 1.9 cm in women. The aorta can be more than an inch wide in some places and has three layers: Intimate inner layer Middle middle layer Adventitious outer layer When there is a problem with the aorta, the heart and body can be at risk.
