Due to COVID restricions, the Ayrshire Junior Team Champions was postponed from its usual April date unil Sunday the 13th of June at Troon Darley, when Royal Troon won the itle for the first ime, taking the Mat Lygate Trophy by virtue of the beter fourth score, ater a on 234 with Kilmarnock Barassie. The first Ayrshire strokeplay event to be held for almost 22 months, the championship atracted entries from eight member clubs and was played in very warm but tesing condiions. Royal Troon’s team of Euan Sirling (77), Noah O'Brien (78) Oliver Long (70) and Fraser Russell (79) edged out Kilmarnock Barassie by 13 shots on the crucial fourth score. The Irvine team of Kyle Reid (72), Lewis Trundle (73), Elliot O'Brien (76) and Daryn Surgenor (83) combined for a net team total of 221 to win the Andrew D. Nimmo Trophy. The Prestwick Circuits Trophy for best individual scratch score was won by Connor Wills of Prestwick St Nicholas with a four over par total of 75, whilst the Carrick Trophy for the best net score of the day was won by Euan Sirling of Royal Troon with a net score of 66. Noah O'Brien (Royal Troon) won the voucher for the best 10+ handicap category with a net 67, whilst the best net voucher for the 0 - 9 handicap category was won by Leo Wright (Kilmarnock Barassie) with a net 72. AYRSHIRE STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Jack Broun (Turnberry) won the 2021 Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion at the fourth play-off hole against Daniel Forbes (Irvine) ater the pair ied on 135 over the two rounds of the delayed championship, held at Loudoun Gowf Club on Sunday the 27th of June, because of COVID restricions earlier in the year. In glorious weather and on a course in first class condiion, Turnberry members Steven Stamper and Ruben Lindsay lead ater the opening round with scores of 66, during which host club member John Haggarty recorded a hole in one on the 156 yard 11th hole. At the halfway stage, Alan McLean (Largs) and Daniel Forbes (Irvine) were one shot behind on 67, with Scot Brown (Prestwick St Cuthbert), Christopher Hunter (Ballochmyle) and Barry O'Rourke (Loudoun) on 68 and a group of 5 players, including Jack Broun, Blair Morton (Royal Troon), Sandy Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie), John Haggarty and Mark Wat (Prestwick St Cuthbert), a shot further back on 69. A second round of 70 saw Barry O'Rourke set the early pace on 138 which was matched by John Shanks (Irvine) with a closing 67, then betered by Steven Stamper, ater a second round of 71, for a 137 total. Daniel Forbes added a 68 to his morning round for a total of 135 to lead the tournament, but Jack Broun’s second closing round of 66 matched Forbes’ total and ensured a itle play off. Jack Broun lost to Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) in a itle play off the last ime the championship was hosted by Loudoun Gowf Club in 2019, but on this occasion, he was successful at the first sudden death hole, ater the three hole play-off was ied on level par, holing a difficult let to right put for a winning birdie three to take the itle for the first ime.

AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Craig Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) won the 2021 Ayrshire Matchplay Champion, over his home course on Thursday the 8th of July, beaing clubmate Graeme Gimson in an excellent final, at the second extra hole, to become only the second winner from the club in the 53 year history of the compeiion following David Murdoch’s win in 1982.
The final was the first for fourteen years to feature two players from the same club, and both produced some outstanding golf over the regulaion eighteen holes, covering the round in figures of 7 and 5 under par, and concluding by halving the final hole in birdies to take the match into extra holes.

Both players had unsuccessful birdie opportuniies at the first extra hole but at the twenieth hole of the match Craig Telfer holed his birdie put, which Graeme Gimson just failed to match, and the itle desinaion was decided.
In the semi-finals, Telfer beat John Shanks (Irvine) by two holes whilst Gimson beat Mark Wat (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 7&5. In the quarter final matches, Gimson beat Blair Morton (Royal Troon) by 4&3, Shanks beat Kevin Thomas (Prestwick St Cuthbert) by 7&6, Telfer beat Barry O’Rourke (Loudoun) by 3&2 and Wat beat Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) by one hole.

THE AYRSHIRE CLub CHAMPIONSHIP
The Prestwick St Cuthbert team of Craig Telfer, Adam Sweeney and Scot Brown won the 2021 Ayrshire Club Championship at Troon Lochgreen on Sunday the 4th of July, beaing Irvine by a single shot. Craig Telfer was in the side when the club last won the R.L. Crawford trophy in 2016, and his 72, alongside a 74 from Adam Sweeney and a 70 from Scot Brown posted a team total of 142. John Shanks (Irvine) and Alan Kelly (West Kilbride) posted the best individual returns of the day with six under par scores of 68. THE AYRSHIRE SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
Alastair Travers (Irvine Ravenspark) won the 2021 Ayrshire Seniors Champion at Rowallan Castle on Tuesday the 13th of July. The 72 compeitors enjoyed fine, sunny, and warm weather throughout and Travers, playing in the second game of the day, posted a net score of 70 off his eight handicap which was ulimately matched only by Michael Steel (Ayr Seafield), with Travers taking the Sandy Provan trophy by virtue of the beter inward half.
Paul Denim (Loudoun) produced the best scratch return of the day with a one over par score of 72. In the 50 - 56 age group category, Gordon Boyle (Turnberry) took first place with 75 (4) 71, one shot ahead of Kevin Hamilton (Rowallan Castle) 84 (12) 72 and three ahead of Gary Allison (Rowallan Castle) with 75 (1) 74, who took the third prize by virtue of a beter inward half.

Alastair Travers Trophy runner up Michael Steel (Ayr Seafield) won the 57 - 64 age group with a net score of 85 (15) 70, two ahead of Fergus Henry (Prestwick St Nicholas), 81 (9) 72 and Bob Cameron (Ayr Belleisle) with 82 (9) 73 The 65 and over age category was won by former champion Allan Merry (West Kilbride) with 82 (9) 73, ahead of Keith Ross (Beith) with 82 (6) 76 and Andrew Brown (Ayr Belleisle) with 85 (7) 78 The nearest the hole prizes, at the eighth and nineteenth holes, were won by Paul Denim (Loudoun) and John Rushbury (Royal Troon) respecively. In 2022 it is intended to introduce a scratch matchplay compeiion for the Ayrshire Seniors’, with the Ayrshire seniors’ Championship being used as the qualifying event.
THE AYRSHIRE bOYS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
Harvey Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck) won the 2021 Ayrshire Boys Champion at Ballochmyle on Thursday the 5th of August. Successive rounds of 72 giving him the itle by three shots. 38 compeitors teed off in the championship, in tesing condiions, with a breeze which strengthened throughout the day, and two successive rounds of 72 gave plus one handicapper Broadfoot the itle by three shots from his nearest challenger Leo Wright, with whom he shared the halfway lead. Luke Jones (Prestwick St Nicholas) posted the best net round of the day in the aternoon with a 68 off a handicap of 12. AYRSHIRE bOYS MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Harvey Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck) completed the Ayrshire Boys' Championship and Matchplay Championship double on Thursday the 12th of August, when he beat Max Barclay (Ayr Belleisle) in the matchplay final at Prestwick Golf Club. Harvey got off to the perfect start, winning the opening two holes, and maintained an advantage throughout the match, turning into Prestwick’s famous closing four hole loop with a two hole advantage. A par four at the fiteenth hole extended his lead to three and he closed out the matchHarvey Broadfoot
on the sixteenth green, a winning birdie three giving him a 3&2 victory. In the semi-finals Broadfoot beat Jack Allan (Ballochmyle by one hole and Barclay beat Cameron McGarvie (Prestwick St Nicholas) at the first extra hole. In the quarter finals, McGarvie beat John Jack (West Kilbride) by one hole, Broadfoot beat Jack Ramsay (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 4&2, Allan beat Noah O’Brien (Royal Troon) by 8&6 and Barclay beat Leo Wright (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 4&2.

CHAMPION Of CHAMPIONS TROPHY COMPETITION
Steven McEwan (Caprington) beat Paul Denim (Loudoun) in the final of the 2021 Ayrshire Champion of Champions Trophy at Royal Troon on Friday the 13th of August to win the trophy for the third ime ater his previous successes in 2012 and 2013.

With the 2021 field augmented by addiional compeitors from the cancelled 2020 event, a total of 66 began the quest for the 2021 itle. The final was played in a siff onshore breeze and the 2018 champion, Paul Denim, found bunkers from the tee over the opening three holes which, coupled with an eagle at the fourth, saw McEwan establish an early four hole advantage, which was extended to six holes ater seven. Denim reduced the deficit to five with a par three at The Postage Stamp, but only delayed the end of the match, McEwan winning the tenth and twelth holes for a 7 &6 victory. In the semi-finals, McEwan beat defending champion Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) by 5&3 whilst Denim beat Gordon Munro (Caprington) by 2 holes.

fOuRbALL CHAMPIONSHIP
With the addiion of compeitors from the cancelled 2020 compeiion, a field of 55 pairs took part in the 2021 Ayrshire Fourball Championship, with ies being played throughout the summer, culminaing in the final at Kilmarnock Barassie on Sunday the 5th of September. The final brought together Aidan Long and John Tanner of the Prestwick Centre club, formerly the Civil Aviaion Golf Society, and Alan Stewart & Alan Stewart Jr. of Stewarton.
Aiden Long (+1) was the lowest handicapper of the four finalists and gave shots to Stewart Jr (3), Stewart (12) and Tanner (12). The Stewarton pair took an early lead, winning the opening two holes and led by four ater seven holes before a par - birdie finish to the outward half for the Prestwick Centre pair reduced the lead to two at the turn.

Holes were exchanged in the inward half but by the fourteenth the Prestwick Centre pair had squared the match and the stalemate was maintained all the way to the eighteenth green. At the first extra hole, Alan Stewart Jr had an outside chance of a winning birdie put bus just failed to hole and at the next hole, John Tanner used his shot received to full advantage, a perfect par four giving him a winning net birdie to take the itle for the Prestwick Centre pairing.

THE GARY bRYDEN MEMORIAL SALvER
Prestwick S Cuthbert The scratch club team knockout compeiion final for The Gary Bryden Memorial Salver, between defending champions Royal Troon and Prestwick St Cuthbert, took place at Kilmarnock Barassie during Finals Day on Sunday the 5th of September. St Cuthbert’s Adam Sweeney secured a two hole win over Michael Smyth in the leading singles ie but Paul McKellar levelled the match with a 3&2 win over Joe McSorley, which let the desiny of the trophy in the hands of the foursomes ie, featuring Blair Morton and Stuart Russell of Royal Troon and Gary Steele & Tom Loy of Prestwick St Cuthbert, and it was the St Cuthbert duo that prevailed by 2&1 to win the salver for the second ime, following their last success in 2017.
19 clubs entered the 2021 event, a popular addiion to the list of county championships.

THE PRESIDENT’S PuTTER
Auchenharvie 88 won the President’s Puter in 2021 beaing local rivals Moorpark in the postponed final, on Sunday the 12th of September, at Rowallan Castle. 31 clubs entered the handicap club team compeiion, and it was the local rivals from the Auchenharvie course in Stevenston that won through to the final, which was originally scheduled to take place during Finals Day on the 5th of September but was postponed due to Moorpark’s addiional involvement in the Handicap League Championship final. The two singles ies were evenly match, Moorpark’s Andrew Armstrong (16) receiving three shots from Brian Robertson (13) whilst Willie Young (16) received two shots from Moorpark’s Duncan McGlone (14) in the second ie. The biggest handicap margin was in the foursomes ie, where Auchenharvie 88’s John Hargreaves and Brian King (10.5) (Auchenharvie 88) gave six strokes to Alan Burns & Jamie Ralston (Moorpark) (16). The first singles ie went the way of Moorpark, Armstrong winning by 5&4, but in the foursomes ie it was the Auchenharvie 88 pairing that won the ie by 5 & 3 to square the match. The remaining singles ie was ightly contested with just a single hole advantage to Young as the ie reached the penulimate hole, and when McGlone found trouble from the tee, steady play from Young prompted concession of the hole, a 2&1 victory, and the trophy.

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGuES
With a total of 20 clubs entering the Ayrshire Scratch Leagues in 2021, it was decided to have leagues one and two of six and five teams, with the remaining teams in league three playing in two secions, the winners of both secions being promoted to Division 2 in 2022. Irvine regained the Division 1 itle in 2021, just ahead of 2018 winners Prestwick St Cuthbert, whilst Ballochmyle were relegated to Division 2.

Final placings in Division 1 were: -
In Division 2, Royal Troon made it three league itles in a row, having won Division 3 in 2019 and Division 4 in 2018, whilst Troon St Meddans were relegated. Largs won the Division ½ play-off match against Turnberry, overturning a first leg deficit of 5.5 – 0.5 to win the home leg 6-0 and gain promoion to Division 1 in 2022 at the expense of Turnberry who drop to Division 2.
Final placings in Division 2 were: -

In Division 3, West Kilbride and Rowallan Castle won their respecive secions to gain promoion to Division 2 in 2022 and in the itle play-off Rowallan Castle overturned a 5-1 defeat in the away leg to win the home leg by 6-0 and win the Division 3 trophy in 2021.

THE AYRSHIRE HANDICAP LEAGuE CHAMPIONSHIP
Moorpark won the 2021 Ayrshire Handicap League Championship for the first ime, at Kilmarnock Barassie the 5th of September, beaing Rowallan Castle 5-1 in the final match. Though Rowallan Castle were giving shots in all six ies, and despite the margin of victory, the match was close, with all six ies finishing at the sixteenth hole or beyond. A total of 29 clubs entered the compeiion in 2021, with seven secions in operaion, the winners of each secion and best overall runner up progressing to the quarter finals. The Qualifying secions were: Secion A – Moorpark, Kilbirnie Place, Turnberry, West Kilbride Secion b – Rowallan Castle, Ayr Dalmilling, Ardeer, Kilmarnock Barassie Secion C – Loudoun, Ballochmyle, Portmann, Ayr Belleisle Secion D – Auchenharvie 88, Stewarton, Caprington, Annanhill Secion E – Pr. St Nicholas, Tr. Portland, Ayr Seafield Secion f – Redburn, Routenburn, Alton, Troon Merchants Secion G – Tr. Welbeck, Royal Troon, Pr. St Cuthbert, Tam O Shanter, Tr. St Meddans Following compleion of the secions, the quarter-final results, played over two legs, were Moorpark 8.5 Prestwick St Nicholas 3.5, Rowallan Castle 6.5 Redburn 5.5, Loudoun 6.5 Troon Welbeck 5.5 and Ballochmyle 5.5 Auchenharvie 88 6.5.
In the semi-finals Moorpark beat Troon Welbeck by 9.5 – 2.5 and Rowallan Castle beat Auchenharvie 88 by 8 – 4.

THE DOC THOM ORDER Of MERIT
Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) won the 2021 Ayrshire Order of Merit, for the Doc Thom Salver, securing points in five of the eighteen couning compeiions including full points at the West Kilbride Open, The Belleisle Cup and the Troon St Meddans Open.
