By BLAIR THOMSON A SHOW which mixes old-school glamour with the burlesque revival comes to the Albury Entertainment Centre tonight. Bring Back the Showgirl, described as a “glamorous and sexy” performance, features award-winning Australian performers including current Miss Burlesque World Cassandra Jane. Jane has performed since 1999 and said the show was similar to the traditional performances held in Parisian and Hollywood burlesque venues. “When I first started in 1999 we would be working in up to 15 venues a week and would perform with big-name adult entertainers such as Cassie Tyler and Gorgie Girl,” she said. “Yes, they were adult entertainers or ‘strippers’, but their style was all about elaborate costumes, presentation, glamour, choreography and class. “This craft has been lost over the past 10 years, as the showgirl has gone from being sexy to sexual. “Bring Back the Showgirl is bringing the ‘show’ back into the girl.” Albury is the only regional city the show will visit during this tour and a tour of the US is expected to
