Mr Furst and chef team-mate Matthew Moffatt, 22, cooked their way into the national final, having put their culinary skills to the test for the first time ever, winning the Victoria heat in June. During the national final cook-off against eight other chef teams, the pair had to create a three-course meal in four hours from a mystery box of ingredients under the steely gaze of the professional judging panel, including celebrity chef and restaurateur, Adrian Richardson.

The competition also provides young chefs with the opportunity of being mentored by culinary instructors and given access to a national network of professional chefs. With the first event held in 1966, the NGCHA is the longest running sponsorship for NestlĂŠ Professional. The annual competition is run in partnership with the Australian Culinary Federation and supported by key sponsors including Emerald Valley.
