Sioux City Parks & Recreation hosts many familyfriendly events throughout the year. Spend a special evening at Daddy Daughter Date Night, support your favorite team at the Mother Son Tailgate, fly a kite at Kids to Parks Day, share your wish list at Breakfast with Santa, play games and enjoy a free meal at Family Fun Night, or cool off at one our popular pool parties. No matter what you choose, you’ll find plenty of fun with little expense to you. More opportunities for recreation and relaxation are available this year! Phase I of the Riverfront Redevelopment project will begin, a riverfront trail connection from Chautauqua Park to Chris Larsen Park is scheduled for completion in late September, and the new Siouxland Expo Center will be complete in the summer. LIVE HEALTHY IOWA KIDS TRACK MEET The meet will be held at Elwood Olsen Stadium. Participants can enter either two track and one field event or two field and one track event. The relay does not count as a running event. Participants will compete in age and gender groups according to their age on December 31, 2021. CODE OF CONDUCT

Participants, parents, and volunteer team leaders are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times during youth sports. Each volunteer team leader is required to attend the team leader meeting prior to our youth programs.

YOUTH BASKETBALL

Played in the Long Lines Family Rec Center, Sioux City Parks and Recreation has joined forces with The Arena to develop Youth Basketball skills for 4 -7 year olds. Teams will be separated into 4 and 5 year olds and 6 and 7 year olds. The Arena will focus on teaching basic skill development and teamwork in a fun and organized manner. KAYAK LAUNCH AT BACON CREEK Just added this year is the new Kayak Launch at Bacon Creek Park. You can walk your kayak down the wide dock, place in the launch, comfortably be seated, and then safely push yourself off in the premolded cogs of the launch. No more teetering or getting your feet wet while launching your kayak!

JUDO

Judo is a dynamic and exciting contact sport for men, women, and children. It combines the excitement of sport with an effective form of self-defense. Judo provides an emphasis on discipline, respect, and self-control; and has a rich set of traditions. Karen Mackey is the only certified Judo coach in this area. Mackey is a 6th degree black belt. She is assisted by Kien Sek, 1st degree Black Belt. This is an ongoing program with monthly dues. Students can join at any time. Classes will be structured for everyone from first-timers to the regular yoga practitioner. Participants should bring their own yoga mat and a bottle of water. REFUND POLICY The City of Sioux City Parks and Recreation provides recreational and aquatic opportunities. Our facilities are available for the rental needs of families, schools, companies, groups, and organizations year round. In order to effectively and fairly serve our patrons, we have implemented the following refund policy: FACILITY RENTALS: The rental fee must be paid at the time of the reservation placement. A full refund will be given to Parks & Recreation facility rentals with a thirty day notification of cancellation. SWIMMING POOL RENTALS: Renters will have the option to rebook or obtain a refund if a weather related circumstance arises. No refunds will be given for pool daily admission fees if the pool is closed due to inclement weather or due to pool issues not governed by City staff. PROGRAM REFUNDS: Recreation programming requires a minimum of one week cancellation prior to the start of the class for a refund (less a 10% or $5 min. administrative fee). No refunds will be given once the class has begun. ATHLETIC PROGRAMS: Youth and adult athletic program cancellations will be refunded (less a 10% or $5 min. administrative fee) if the cancellation is received prior to the deadline dates. No refund will be given after the deadline date nor after the sport has begun. CONE PARK TICKETS: Transfer of tickets to a new date if the temperature or wind chill is below 0. Request must be made at least 24 hours prior to purchased tubing session. We strive to follow these stated policies but understand circumstances may prohibit the ability of the citizen to engage in the program or rental agreements. Sioux City is proud of the city-wide trail system it has developed. The trail system provides citizens and visitors the opportunity to explore the unique landscape of the Missouri River along the Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Trail, enjoy an urban experience along the Perry Creek Trail, and benefit from the natural habitat of the Bacon Creek Trail. Sioux City offers close to 33 miles of paved recreational trails suitable for walking, jogging, running, biking, and skateboarding. Each trail connection offers an exceptional way to enjoy our City.

TRAIL CONNECTIONS

Floyd Trail - 3rd Street to Jefferson Street............ 3.00 miles

The Perry Creek Trail system provides access to the Downtown and residential areas along the creek offering a lighted trail system, benches, signage, and pedestrian bridges. The Perry Creek Trail runs from Pierce Street to Stone Park Boulevard for approximately 3.2 miles. Trail users can walk/ jog/run, bike along the trail and connect to the Lewis and Clark Trail that offers a route along the Missouri River from Chautauqua Park to Riverside Park for a total of 7 miles of trail (one way). The Riverfront Trail also connects, at the South Bottoms Memorial Circle, to the Floyd River Trail which follows the bank of the Floyd River to Leeds Park (41st & Central) for approximately 3.5 miles one way. The Bacon Creek Trail encircles Bacon Creek Lake offering a natural environment in 3 miles of trail. The Singing Hills Trail, from Harbor Drive to the Morningside area, traverses through the Industrial Interchange to Sergeant Road for 3.5 miles one way. While traveling the Singing Hills Trail you will intersect with the Sertoma Park Trail Loop that offers 2 miles of trail circling both Sertoma Park and Cone Park.

SHELTERS

Park shelters are an excellent place to hold parties, reunions, birthdays, or just getting together with friends and family for a good time. All of our shelters will hold up to 60 guests with Riverside #5, Sertoma, and Chris Larsen holding up to 150. Start planning your picnic or potluck now. Reservations may be made year round; however, restrooms are only available 4/15-10/15. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance; and, payment must be received at the time of reservation. Reservable shelters are available in Riverside, Bacon Creek, Lewis, Leif Erikson, Sertoma Park, and Chris Larsen Park. First Come-First Serve shelters available in Cook, Mid City, Kirk Hanson, Leeds, and Goldie-Beck, plus other neighborhood parks. RENTAL TIMES Full Day Half Day

SIOUXLAND EXPO CENTER

The Siouxland Expo Center is SIoux City’s newest attraction! Our indoor turf provides space for soccer, baseball, football, and much more! The facility has meeting rooms and a banquet room to accommodate meetings, parties, and conferences. A concession stand enhances the convenience of the facility for sporting and other events. The Conference Rooms can be rented hourly as a divided room or combined for a larger space and are suitable for rental needs for smaller meetings and parties. The Banquet Room is a beautiful private room with access to the outdoor patio. This room is suitable for wedding receptions, parties, and larger business events. Other conveniences include multiple parking lots and access to the City Trail system crossing either the Floyd River or the Bacon Creek Channel to continue along the Missouri River.
