In different cultures, water lanterns symbolize good fortune, reverence, peace. Certain cultures believe that water lanterns guide souls of loved ones to the spirit world.

The thousands of New Yorkers whose lives were taken away from COVID-19, their stories are displayed on digital stations. Visitors are able to interact with this technology to better understand these individuals’ lives.
COVID-19 did not only affect NYC. It has affected the world. Visitors get to see the impacts of COVID-19 on a global scale.
COVID-19 Memorial + MuseumAt the center of the underground museum, where all the exhibits connect, is the place for contemplation. Here, people will be able to see the lanterns from below and get to deeply reflect.

The site is very fragmented with human and natural barriers. However, this fragmentation can be used as an opportunity.
Significant nodes on the site: the middle school, civic center, sports center, elementary school, and the historic street.
Lines were drawn to connect the significant nodes.
While refining and adjusting the shapes created from connecting the nodes, this inevitably fragments the site further. This fragmentation, however, is used as opportunities.
Another island contains an amphitheater that provide public seating as well as a stage for events.
Among the islands of activity, these water islands are capable of carrying water down to the river.
The islands surrounding the middle school are geared towards teens. a gathering space and a skate park was naturally added to the programs.
During school hours, this playground will be accessed by the elementary school. after school hours, it will be open for all.
around 13% of the Champaign-Urbana community is Asian.
Tofu is an important ingredient for the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cultures. It is commonly used for these East Asian countries. This staple ingredient is a source for protein but also is crucial for comfort foods within these communities.
It only seemed fitting to use tofu as the concept for this East Asian community center.
