The Philippine Parts Makers Association (PPMA) is sounding the alarm on the alarming decline of the country’s automotive parts manufacturing sector. Once a thriving industry with 140 company members in 1997, the association is now struggling to keep just 40 active members a oat.
At its peak, locally manufactured parts made up 80% of the automotive market, supported by strong demand and a thriving network of local car assemblers. Today, that number has dropped to just 20%, with global competition, shrinking
demand, and lack of government support pushing the sector to the brink.
“The continued decline of our industry isn’t just a business issue—it’s an economic crisis in the making,” said Ferdi Raquelsantos, President of PPMA. “We were once a key player in the Philippine automotive ctor. ow w r fi hti just to survive.”
PPMA is calling on the government to act decisively in reviving the sector through:
• A new and improved version of the Comprehensive
Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program to provide globally competitive incentives for automotive assemblers (OEMs).
• Stronger local content policies to boost demand for locally made parts.
• Support for technological advancements and workforce upskilling to
help the industry compete on a global scale.
“The Philippines has the talent and the resources to rebuild this industry, but w firm o r m t action to make it happen,” Raquelsantos emphasized. “If we fail to act now, we risk losing a vital sector that once contributed i ifica tl to our economy and workforce.”
PPMA remains committed to working with policymakers, stakeholders, and industry leaders to restore the strength of the local automotive parts manufacturing sector. The time to act is now.

Ford Philippines wrapped up 2024 with impressive momentum, solidifying its position in the automotive landscape with total sales reaching 27,997 units. At the forefront of this success was the Ford Ranger, which led the brand’s retail performance with 13,812 units sold, marking a 4 percent growth despite the fierce competition in the pickup segment. But beyond these strong numbers lies an even bigger shift—one that signals the dawn of a new era for Ford in the country. As the brand steers toward 2025, electrification is taking center stage.
Last year saw the arrival of three legendary models that ignited excitement among Philippine car enthusiasts. The 7th-generation Mustang, a symbol of power and heritage, debuted in two variants— the 5.0L GT Premium Fastback and the 2.3L EcoBoost® Premium Fastback. With the MagneRide® Damping System ensuring superior control, the latest Mustang upheld its reputation as a highperformance sports coupe built for the road and the racetrack alike. Meanwhile, the iconic Ford Bronco made its much-anticipated Philippine debut, catering to adventure seekers with its rugged capabilities and off-road prowess. The Outer Banks variant, equipped with the Sasquatch Package, showcased Ford’s commitment to bringing a true off-roader to the local market. With features such as Advanced 4x4 with On-Demand Engagement, G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) Modes™, and a High-Performance OffRoad Stability Suspension (HOSS) System, the Bronco quickly made a strong impression among 4x4 enthusiasts.
Rounding out Ford’s trio of high-performance vehicles was the Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0L V6. Designed for off-road dominance, this powerhouse truck delivered an exhilarating 397PS and
583Nm of torque from its twinturbo EcoBoost engine. With a performance-tuned 10-speed automatic transmission and an anti-lag system available in Baja mode, the new Raptor brought a level of off-road capability previously unseen in the local pickup segment.
While these models underscore Ford’s reputation for performance and adventure, the company is now shifting gears toward a more sustainable future. 2025 marks the beginning of Ford Philippines’ electrification journey, with a lineup of alternative-powered models set to enter the market. This move aligns with global trends, as more automakers introduce hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) to meet the rising demand for sustainable mobility solutions.
“2025 is going to be a big year for Ford Philippines as we are finally bringing our suite of electrified products to the market, complemented by a new retail experience in our Ford dealerships and better-skilled technical and dealer personnel,” shared Pedro Simoes, managing director of Ford Philippines.
This strategic expansion into electrification isn’t just about launching new models—it’s about reshaping the customer experience.
Ford is rolling out its Ford Signature 2025 dealership design, a bold initiative aimed at creating a more immersive and personalized vehicle purchase and after-sales experience. Customers can expect a more interactive and technologydriven showroom environment, enhancing their journey from browsing to ownership.
Beyond product innovation, Ford Philippines is making significant investments in training and development. A new state-ofthe-art learning facility is in the works, designed to enhance the technical expertise of Ford service personnel. This facility will house dedicated EV training programs, equipping technicians with the skills needed to handle electrified models. Additionally, the training
hub will offer non-technical courses for dealership sales and service teams, ensuring that Ford’s customer service evolves alongside its growing lineup of vehicles.
Ford Philippines’ transformation comes at a pivotal time, coinciding with a leadership transition. On December 1st, Pedro Simoes took the reins as managing director, bringing with him a wealth of experience from key automotive markets across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. His extensive background in marketing, brand development, and dealer operations positions him as the ideal leader to steer Ford Philippines into its next phase of innovation and growth.
Simoes’ appointment signals a renewed focus on delivering both high-performance and sustainable mobility solutions. Under his leadership, Ford Philippines is poised to introduce not only cutting-edge vehicles but also an enhanced ownership experience that caters to the evolving needs of modern drivers.
With a record-breaking 2024 as its foundation, Ford Philippines is set to accelerate toward an electrified and customer-centric future. The move toward alternative-powered models signifies a significant evolution in the local automotive industry, where performance and sustainability can now go hand in hand. As more Filipinos embrace hybrid and electric mobility, Ford’s bold electrification strategy places it at the forefront of the country’s shift toward cleaner and more efficient driving solutions.
Whether it’s through highperformance icons like the Mustang, Bronco, and Raptor, or the exciting new wave of electrified models on the horizon, one thing is certain: Ford Philippines is charging full speed ahead into a future where power, innovation, and sustainability drive the road forward.
