Unlikely object of Cropley’s desire: this Olds sold for £35,000
London’s authorities, so often seen as anti-car, allowed Pall Mall to be closed for the St James’s Motoring Spectacle during London Motor Week. The mayor even took a tour and smiled about it. Best of all was this Royal College of Art stand on which postgrad design students drew cars to order. Quite rightly, it created much interest.

SUPERCHARGERS: ANOTHER TESLA HIT
It’s not just electric cars that Tesla has led the way with over the past decade or so. It has also shown us all how public charging can - and should – work. Reliable, fast and easy to use, Tesla’s Supercharger network has been a key factor in its success. It currently has over 1644 rapid and ultra-rapid public chargers across the country, which is more than any other network currently has – although Instavolt and Osprey are very close to that number. All of Tesla’s Superchargers offer charging speeds of 150-250kW, although the latest V4 superchargers are capable of 350kW. Currently, fewer than 10% will charge any electric car and the rest are still Tesla-only, but the network is gradually opening up to all parties. Which is great news, as it’s still widely recognised as the most reliable and user-friendly charging network out there. This, as with the Model S, is something that Tesla got spot on, right from the beginning.

An atmospheric classified ad resulted in a trip to Italy, a Fulvia on the drive and a serial Lancia owner’s latest – and perhaps greatest – love.
By RICHARD WEBBER
THow the Fulvia fostered a rallying dynasty
Lancia’s heroic 037 is famed for beating the Audi Quattro to the 1983 WRC manufacturers’ title despite driving only its rear wheels, but the 160bhp Fulvia Coupé 1.6 HF took the International Championship for Manufacturers (the WRC’s precursor) crown with front-wheel drive back in 1972, ahead of rear-wheel-drive rivals including the Porsche 911 and Mk1 Ford Escort RS1600.
At the season opener, Venetian Sandro Munari masterfully drifted his limited-slip differential-equipped Fulvia through Monte arlo ow to fi i h fir t aft r th a t ma orit of th tro fi l uccum to the awful conditions.
Swede Harry Källström won the RAC Rally in a Fulvia in both 1969 and 1970, and a trio of lightweight, Coupé-based open-top racers, the Spider F&Ms, were also built. u ari thir plac fi i h i a ul ia at the 1974 East African Safari Rally represented a passing of the baton: he soon switched to the space-age Stratos, subsequently sealing that year’s WRC title for Lancia.
Performance-oriented, road-going Fulvia Coupés were named ‘HF’ after the HF Squadra Corse works team, while early 1.3s and 1.6s were also badged ‘Rallye’. Bumperless special editions also referenced the car’s competitive exploits: Montecarlo, with matt black bonnet and bootlid, and afari th fi al aria t f aturi a tripp back interior and limited to 900 examples.
‘HF’ originates with HiFi Club, established in 1959 as a group of Lancia owners of h gh fidel t ’ ea h having bought at least six from new.

BMW MOTORRAD REFRESHES THE ENTIRE R 18 LINEUP FOR 2025
When BMW Motorrad first launched the R 18 in 2020, it was clear the brand wasn’t just dipping a toe into cruiser waters — it was going in full throttle. Over the next few years, BMW expanded the lineup with models like the R 18 Classic, the highway-focused R 18 B, the grand touring R 18 Transcontinental, and the custom-inspired R 18 Roctane. For 2025, BMW has sharpened the entire family with fresh design touches, more rider comfort, smarter technology, and a stronger punch from the iconic Big Boxer engine.
The updates don’t just polish the R 18 range — they show BMW’s commitment to blending
classic cruiser style with modern performance and rider-focused upgrades.
Big Boxer, Bigger Pull
At the heart of every 2025 R 18 is the same soul-stirring 1,802cc air/oil-cooled Big Boxer twin. But it’s now cleaner and stronger than ever, meeting the stricter Euro 5+ emissions standards. A new engine control unit helps boost peak torque from 158 Nm to 163 Nm at 3,000 rpm. Even better, over 150 Nm of torque is available from just 2,000 rpm up to 4,000 rpm, giving riders a more muscular, flexible powerband for real-world riding. Whether cruising city streets or rolling across open highways, expect
even more effortless pull at your fingertips.
R 18: The Original, Refined
The standard R 18 gets a fresh look while staying true to its roots. Redesigned front and rear fenders now flow more seamlessly into the teardrop-shaped tank, creating a sleeker, cleaner silhouette. An 18-inch rear wheel (up from 16 inches) gives the bike a slightly more athletic stance, while open fork tubes bring a lighter, more contemporary front-end appearance. New round-profile silencers and a thicker padded solo seat add both style and comfort, and the seat can now be detached with a hidden button for quick customization. BMW also retuned
the rear suspension for a smoother ride, and threw in a USB-C charging port and optional daytime running lights, depending on the market. A new Blacked Out trim package rounds out the changes, draping the R 18 in black or Dark Chrome finishes for a stealthy vibe.
R 18 Classic: A True Throwback, Updated
The R 18 Classic continues to embrace nostalgic touring, but now wears a larger 19-inch spoked front wheel, replacing the older 16-inch setup. A lowermounted, reshaped front fender complements the traditional fork covers, while new sharper-edged side covers and rounder exhausts complete the look. Like the base R

18, the Classic now gets a USB-C port and the optional Blacked Out package. With its vintage cues and updated hardware, the 2025 Classic looks and rides like a true old-school tourer, only sharper and more refined.
R 18 R tane: agger t de, re i i n
ntroduced in 2023, the R 18 Roctane brought darker styling and a more custom bagger flavor to the family. For 2025, BMW amps up the personality with a striking new Dragonfire Red Metallic twotone paint option. Buyers can also opt for filler panels between the saddlebags and rear fender, giving the bike a cleaner, more finished look. Dark Chrome now dresses up elements like the push rods, intake silencer, and the headlight inner ring. A Comfort package is available, adding useful tech like ill Start Control, tire pressure monitoring, a lockable fuel cap, and heated grips—perfect for riders who love their bagger with a side of high-tech convenience.
R 18 : trea lined r the Open R ad
The R 18 B continues to play the role of the stylish bagger, with its trimmed-down fairing and low windshield. For 2025, BMW adds a smart new feature a programmable favorites button on the right handlebar that allows quick access to key functions like heated grips without diving into menus. A new Blacked Out
package joins the lineup, bringing black engine finishes, Dark Chrome exhaust tips, and high-gloss black details. Buyers can further enhance the look by adding color-matched filler panels around the saddlebags. Like the Roctane, a Comfort package is also available for riders who want top-shelf touring amenities.
R 18 Tran n nental: The r i er That r e n nent
The R 18 Transcontinental remains BMW’s flagship touring model, built for serious mileage. t inherits the new favorites button for 2025 and gets the same Dragonfire Red Metallic two-tone paint option paired with a blacked-out powertrain and Dark Chrome detailing. Central locking, ill Start Control, tire pressure monitoring, and a lockable fuel filler cap are bundled into the available Comfort package, making it even more suited for cross-country adventures.
t i e r Ride
ersonalization remains a key part of the R 18 experience.
BMW offers a wide selection of accessories and trim packages, from dragbar handlebars in black or chrome, to engine protection bars, to custom spoked or cast wheels. Different seat designs, paint options, and exhaust finishes (in chrome or black) let riders truly make their R 18 a reflection of their personality.
la i , dern e n
The 2025 BMW R 18 family proves that tradition and innovation can thrive side by side. Whether you’re drawn to the simple elegance of the standard R 18, the throwback charm of the Classic, the custom a tude of the Roctane, or the long-distance prowess of the B and Transcontinental, there’s an R 18 model ready to deliver oldschool cruiser character with the engineering excellence only BMW can deliver.
For cruiser enthusiasts who appreciate heritage, style, and pure riding soul — without giving up modern comfort and tech — the road ahead looks very, very good.

In a market where big SUVs o en dominate the roads, the Alphard ybrid offers a refreshing alternative for families and executives who want first-class mobility with a more conscious footprint. t’s a subtle yet powerful statement that modern luxury can—and should— be sustainable.
Refined re en e, n ide and Out
One glance at the new Alphard ybrid and you immediately understand its appeal. The commanding front grille, sharp LED headlamps, and clean body lines project confidence without looking aggressive. ts large footprint—over five meters long and almost two meters tall—hints at the cavernous space inside, but the sleek profile keeps it looking elegant, never bulky.
The Alphard has always been a favorite among discerning Filipino families, business leaders, and celebrities for a reason: it knows how to impress without trying too hard. Whether parked in the valet line of a five-star hotel or gliding through EDSA tra c, the Alphard ybrid stands out with quiet dignity.
Step inside, and the Alphard transforms from luxury vehicle to rolling executive suite. Every inch of the cabin is meticulously cra ed. igh-grade leather seats, polished wood trim, ambient lighting, and smart storage solutions create a space that feels more like a private lounge than a family van.
Second-row passengers are treated like VIPs, with powered Ottoman seats offering full leg support, plus individual controls for seat adjustment, ventilation, and ambient lighting. There’s generous headroom and knee room for all passengers, and the ride quality is simply world-
class. Whether you’re headed to a business meeting, the golf course, or a weekend getaway, the Alphard ybrid makes every trip feel like a retreat.
Smooth, Silent Power
But the Alphard’s real magic happens once the wheels start rolling. owered by a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine paired with Toyota’s fourthgeneration hybrid system, it delivers 188 horsepower from the gas engine and an additional 54 from the electric motor. Despite its size, the Alphard moves with surprising grace—silky smooth, composed, and reassuringly powerful when you need it.
SLEX, the Alphard Hybrid quietly watches your back.
Built for Filipino Luxury Lifestyles
In the Philippine context, where long tra c jams, narrow urban streets, and tropical heat are daily realities, the Alphard ybrid makes even more sense. ts hybrid system isn’t just about reducing emissions—it’s about creating a serene, stress-free ride in the places where you need it most.
The Alphard offers the perfect balance it carries up to seven passengers in total luxury, can tackle long-distance drives to Subic or Tagaytay with absolute ease, and keeps fuel bills surprisingly manageable despite its size. Whether you’re using it for family road trips, business shuttles, or personal everyday use, the Alphard ybrid fits perfectly into the upscale Filipino lifestyle.
The e tandard r re ge on the Road
Starting at 4.6 million in the Philippines, the Toyota Alphard ybrid isn’t just an evolution— it’s a complete rethinking of what luxury mobility should be today. t’s smooth without being showy, powerful without being wasteful, prestigious without being excessive.
For Filipino buyers looking for a genuine luxury experience
that doesn’t compromise their values—or their sense of style— the Alphard Hybrid stands in a class of its own. t’s a clear sign that the future of luxury driving isn’t just faster or fancier. t’s quieter, smarter, and more responsible.
And that’s a future worth arriving in.
