The cool evenings and mornings have given way to hot days, and that’s when we know that summer is upon us, and March is the lead-in to when the Auto industry heats up and the tipping point is the Manila International Auto Show in April. But that’s still a few weeks away.
Does size matter? Well in this issue it does, we take a long hard look at the All-new Mitsubishi Triton. They’ve done away with the Strada name and now call it Triton, along with the rest of the world. And with the new name, its longer, taller, wider and tougher.
March also has its own share of new vehicles that have just entered the local market, and these usher in the summer season, starting with the All-new GAC M8, the much loved Isuzu mu-X has been updated, Jetour’s Dashing is made even more comely with an awesome sound system, Mazda has come out with a Hybrid CX-30, remember the MG One? ...and the Nissan Terra lineup has been updated.
Aside from local industry news, we check out cars we wish we had here, we feature Chevy’s Hybrid Corvette and how an already cool car gets a lot better electrified. With Rolls-Royce now manufacturing the electric Spectre, some changes had to be made to the production line, and when you’re making bespoked ultra luxury behemoths, it’s no small feat. Posh, Electrified is quite the task. The Audi R8, when uttered, no other words follow that can trigger a better mental image, but is it the end of the line for one of the coolest cars around?
The 2024 F1 season is here and we take a peek at the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One car.
So you probably noticed that I mentioned “electrified” twice and looking at our auto industry as it is now, it’s going to be mentioned and written a lot more in the coming months.
The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) slated in April has gotten quite big, so big, that it will be held in two venues, the World Trade Center for the usual vehicles with internal combustion engines, and a whole ‘nuther show at SMX at the Mall of Asia for EV’s. Thats a lot of vehicles!
And as always, MIAS is the launchpad for many new models and brands, so expect our coming issues to be full of new brands and models. Just the thought of it is daunting, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
No Worries!
Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH) confirms the arrival and start of sales of the All-New Santa Fe in the country starting today. For this mid-size SUV’s first full model change since 2018, it undergoes a radical exterior transformation and enhances its signature adventure-meets-city appeal.
The “Open For More” concept for this fifth generation Santa Fe took inspiration from its wider tailgate opening, which happens to be the starting point of its design rebirth. Created with a terrace-like living space to provide plenty of room and seamless transition between urban life and the great outdoors.
The All-New Santa Fe has a distinct, boxier and bolder silhouette and is 45-mm longer and 95-mm higher than its predecessor. It has a shorter overhang allowing the wheelbase to be extended by 50-mm and the tailgate to be 145-mm wider so that interior space is maximized both for passengers or loads. Limiting the coefficient drag, given its now larger body, has also been prioritized to ensure improved driving comfort and fuel efficiency. Which is why angled side mirrors, active air flaps in both the top and bottom of the front bumper, skid plates on the front and rear bumpers and a spoiler at the rear, have been strategically placed.
A bridge-type roof rail has also been incorporated alongside the dual sunroof to allow greater versatility in mounting accessories or additional storage. For easier access to this, and other purposes such as car washing, a C-Pillar Assist Handle has been added. It can withstand up to 200-kg and is sized generously so the safety of users getting up and down
can be guaranteed. The built-in glass cover is both sleeklooking and functional, as it can be locked when not in use. Seen from the side as well, is the All-New Santa Fe’s sharply defined wheel arches are coupled with 21-inch black ink wheels with Continental tires.
H-shaped elements are evident all-throughout the exterior such as the LED horizontal lamp with daytime running lights (DRL), front bumper garnish and radiator grille, as well as rear taillights. These are carried over to the inside specifically the front dashboard’s mood lights and aircon-vents and the stitching of the seats. This motif is a reinterpretation of Hyundai’s ‘H’ emblem made to complement the All-New Santa Fe’s new design identity.
The All-New Santa Fe has a refined and up-scale interior in contrast to its strong exterior. At the heart of this is the philosophy of a “plus alpha” space experience which connects outdoor-indoor living. Starting with the fully foldable second and third row seats to make it possible for users to repurpose it as a cargo bed whether for groceries, home projects, sports and recreation, or camping trips.
When at the driver’s seat, there is a 12.3-inch panoramic curved display for the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. To the left of it is a fingerprint recognition system that is easy to use and more importantly secure. A first for the brand, which supports seat memory customizing and access to a personalized infotainment system. It was in 2019 when Hyundai showcased this technology and has always taken proactive efforts towards the expansion of software defined vehicles.
Whereas to the right of it, is a UV-C sterilization tray on top of the glove box. Since the Santa Fe was conceptualized during the pandemic, this has been retained for the users’ health and sanitation. Then at the bottom of it, under the full-touch climate control panel, is a dual wireless charging pad, which is another first from the brand. Since some users still preferred wired connection, 6 USB-C ports and a 12-volt socket are also present.
Moving to the center which has been ergonomically designed with thoughtful storages. Not only is there a bottom space in between the front row seats but also a bi-directional console box with a lower sliding tray. The latter, is a worldfirst, which enables a variety of uses especially since it can be opened from both ends and has a removable divider.
The All-New Santa Fe is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, mated to an 8-speed dual clutch transmission –producing a maximum output of 281-ps and torque of 422-nm. It employs a column-type shift by wire system, similar to the brand’s electric cars, the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. Together with these are drive and terrain settings that can be adjusted based on user preference on the engine power map, transmission patterns, stability control and braking. A total of eight modes can be selected, namely, Normal, Eco, Sport, Smart, Auto,
Sand, Mud and Snow.
Moreover, it comes with Hyundai Traction (HTRAC), the brand’s All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, as well as a Downhill Brake Control, that supports sudden changes in weather or difficult terrains. The All-New Santa Fe was made to keep up with the users active lifestyle and empower them through added peace of mind.
Apart from the driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags, coming as standard as well is the brand’s suite of safety features called the Hyundai SmartSense. Advanced driver assist func tions such as the Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Following and Keeping, Blindspot View Monitor, Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance, Parking Distance Warning, Manual Speed Limit, Rear Occupant Alert and Surround View Monitor. These have been placed to help reduce user fatigue and reinforce confidence of users on daily commutes or weekend trips.
The full specifications for the All-New Santa Fe can be found at the Hyundai Motor Philippines’ website (https://www. hyundai.com/ph/en). A hybrid trim will be made available by the second half of the year, for now it comes in the following variants and colors:
All-New Santa Fe will be a part of the Hyundai Mobility Experience tour, which resumes this coming March 22 to 24 at Ayala Malls Glorietta in Makati City before heading to other cities outside Metro Manila. For announcements and happenings, follow @HyundaiMotorPhilippines in Facebook and Instagram.
Andretti AutoSport has been denied a spot as the 11th team in F1 by the commercial rights holders. Andretti AutoSport has attained the approval of the FIA.
Formula One management says it feels their entry would not bring additional value to the championship.
The team had recently demonstrated in public the extensive work already underway on its entry, including testing of a scale model in the TMG wind tunnel in Cologne, Germany. They have also secured a power unit supply deal from General Motors from 2028.
The rights holders declared “Our assessment process has established that the presence of an 11th team would not, on its own, provide value to the Championship. The most significant way in which a new entrant would bring value is by being competitive. We do not believe that the Applicant would be a competitive participant.”
The remark’s focal point is the fact that for the first years of their entry (2025 and then 2026-27) Andretti would require the use of a power unit from an existing supplier, which the four manufacturers
LOCK(five come 2026 when Honda rejoins) are required by the rules to provide if necessary. Even if GM had a power unit ready, this would also be discharged.
The statement continues with “The Application contemplates an association with General Motors (GM) that does not initially include a PU supply, with an ambition for a full partnership with GM as a PU supplier at the right time, but this will not be the case for some years. Having a GM PU supply attached to the Application at the outset would have enhanced its credibility, though a novice constructor in partnership with a new entrant PU supplier
❝
would also have a significant challenge to overcome. Most of the attempts to establish a new constructor in the last several decades have not been successful.”
“2025 will be the last year of the current regulatory cycle and 2026 will be the first year of the subsequent cycle, for which an entirely different car to the previous cycle will be required. The Applicant proposes, as a novice constructor, to design and build a car under the 2025 regulations, and then in the very next year to design and build a completely different car under the 2026 regulations.”
F1 concludes that
Andretti, the championship being “the pinnacle of world motorsport,” would struggle to be competitive. “This represents a unique technical challenge to constructors of a nature that the Applicant has not faced in any other formula or discipline in which it has previously competed, and it proposes to do so with a dependency on a compulsory PU supply in the initial years of its participation. On this basis, we do not believe that the Applicant would be a competitive participant.”
Effectively F1 dismisses GM’s chances of building a competitive power unit.
“Coming to the sport as a new PU manufacturer is also a huge challenge, with which major automotive manufacturers have struggled in the past, and one which can take a manufacturer a number of years of significant investment to become competitive. GM have the resource and credibility to be more than capable of attempting this challenge, but success is not assured.”
For now, short of buying an existing team, there is no other route into the sport for the American outfit or any other team short of a full works effort from an established manufacturer.
2025 will be the last year of the current regulatory cycle and 2026 will be the first year of the subsequent cycle, for which an entirely different car to the previous cycle will be required.
SUNDAY
You left me last week with my Alpine A110 unexpectedly conked on the Fosse Way in northern Gloucestershire: a fast, narrow stretch with sightlines restricted by a steep cutting. Few events render you as powerless as an open-roads breakdown – although nowadays they’re so rare that I can’t remember a previous one.
Via its app, I contacted the AA, which instantly sent a link that established my position. Within 45 minutes, a van had arrived to tow the car to a lay-by. Within an hour, a flatbed truck had loaded the car to carry it the 15 miles home. Both drivers insisted this five-star treatment was nothing special.
It’s interesting to clock how you’re treated by other drivers when you break down. Many are impatient. A few take serious risks to minimise the delay. Several kind van drivers (young) stopped and volunteered to tow me, but I couldn’t figure out how to release the automatic parking brake. An Alpine driver stopped, rolled down his window and said cheerfully: “Fuel pump?” I had recently heard that a batch of overheating pumps was causing trouble for A110s. He knew it too.
MONDAY
I reported my problem via Alpine’s helpline, encountering a polite and empathetic bloke called Wasim who couldn’t seem to do enough for me. I wondered if he would like a job in our organisation. Before the morning was out, the car was on another flatbed, heading to my nearest dealership, Martins of Winchester.
TUESDAY
Life goes on. Back in London, I headed for the House of Commons to attend a convivial dinner staged annually by the All Party Parliamentary Historic Vehicles Group. Founded 30 years ago

by Sir Greg Knight, MP for East Yorkshire and a confirmed car lover, this body helps to safeguard the interests of classic car lovers and the £7 billion industry backing them.
Knight always produces quality speakers. This year it was Mark Harper, the transport secretary, who told us what we wanted to hear about the protection of our interests but was notably light on unpicking the problems created by 20mph limits and pointless traffic-calming measures.
One notable attendee was TV auctioneer Derek Mathewson (Bangers and Cash), with whom I bonded instantly. He’s exactly the voice of knowledge and reason you see on the box. We talked car values, customers, Bedfords (he writes a column for the owners’ club) and the thousands of viewers for whom his programme was a special solace during lockdown. We also agreed
As the focal point of the year’s final Gaydon Gathering, the British Motor Museum started and ran the mighty 475bhp 3.0-litre Ariel Atom V8 they have on display. It sounded so fantastic that we will aim to include it in this week’s My Week In Cars podcast (see autocar.co.uk). Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
on an early visit to his Pickering emporium by the My Week In Cars podcast team.
WEDNESDAY
A fresh voice on the phone from the Alpine dealership, less upbeat than the others. “You might want to consult your insurers,” it intoned, proceeding to describe a car with a cracked chassis, body damage, a detached front wishbone and seriously scuffed wheels, then mention the dreaded word “write-off”. Stunned, I hung up to consult Alpine. After all, my car had previously been a press demonstrator. Within minutes, the same voice came back, full of apologies. They had two A110s in for repair at Martins, he explained, and mine was the one that hadn’t been driven into the scenery at high speed.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY
A blur of contacts with Alpine and Martins. They had established that my fuel pump had indeed been the problem, that a new one would arrive within a day and that it could be fitted straight away. The car would be running by the weekend, they said, and it was. I collected it early the following day and greatly enjoyed the trip home. No car is perfect, but neither the AA nor Martins could have made a better job of fixing mine.

With the dry season starting to let its arrival known, the automotive industry is welcoming summer with a curated bunch of latest automotive launches in the past month. A season known for long road trips, it is just the perfect time to check out and look at some of the newest car offerings in the market today. Here are the new models launched in the past weeks.
JOHN REY SAN DIEGOAfter teasing the local auto market of its arrival GAC Motor Philippines officially launched the all-new GAC M8. The premium seven-seater MPV features luxury, style, and practicality, all meticulously crafted for discerning customers.
While the M8 carries an eye-catching sleek exterior design, its main highlight is its spacious cabin. The GAC M8 features a 2-2-3 seating. The front passengers have power-adjustable seats, with the driver side having a twelve-way power adjustment and the front passenger getting a four-way adjustable seat. Main cabin highlights are the second-row captain’s seats which are both power adjustable and even come with leg rests. In-car entertainment is courtesy of a 14.6-inch multi-functional touchscreen that comes equipped with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Its flashy exterior and luxurious interior are complemented by driving performance that is nothing short of impressive. The GAC premium MPV is powered by a potent 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that transfers 248 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque to the wheels.
The current generation Isuzu SUV has been known to sport some class-leading features that are still yet to be found in its segment counterparts. The Isuzu mu-X particularly highlights the importance of safety thus being equipped with Isuzu’s Advanced Driver Assist System or ADAS.
Further emphasizing the importance of safety, Isuzu Philippines Corporation proudly announced the updates on the 2024 edition of the Isuzu mu-X. The latest iteration of the Isuzu SUV now comes with an Around View Monitor which significantly reduces blind sports, aiding safety maneuvers especially in tight spaces.
Also, proving to push boundaries in its heated market segment, the Isuzu mu-X now comes with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) which can record continuously for several hours, depending on the microSD card that will be used. This new feature will surely give peace of mind to users. The DVR will utilize all four cameras located around the mu-X.
Another welcome update to the updated mu-X is its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now enables wireless connectivity. The inclusion of wireless offers a seamless way to keep devices powered up on the go.
If its familiar exterior design is not enough for you to be enticed with the Jetour Dashing, Jetour Auto Philippines Inc. officially launched the limited edition Jetour Dashing Symphony. The newest iteration of the five-seater crossover adds a special dimension in its already exciting luxury offering.
The limited edition Dashing Symphony only comes with the special color of Aurora Green. Aside from the unique color option, a special ‘Symphony’ badge is slapped at the rear which sets it apart from normal Dashings on the road.
The biggest update to the limited edition Dashing is its refined in-car audio system that is powered by JL Audio. Yes, the brand you probably saw on the Need For Speed Underground franchise. The Dashing Symphony is equipped with a 10-inch, 300watts RMS, 4-Ohm JL Audio subwoofer and a 400watts RMS, 4-channel JL Audio power amplifier fitted at the rear passenger area. A JL Audio component speaker system is also installed on each of the four side doors, which includes two woofers and two tweeters. The trunk is fitted with a speaker coupled with an amplifier which is cleanlyhoused inside the rear hatch.’
Further strengthening its electrified lineup, Mazda Philippines officially launched the Mazda CX-30 HEV in February. Packed with improved systems, including enhanced safety and convenience features, the CX-30 aims to solidify its position of elegance in its segment.
The newly launched electrified CX-30 features a sophisticated latest iteration of the brand’s KODO design philosophy. It has been complemented with functionality and convenience with its new Adaptive LED headlights. The CX-30’s i-Activsense Driver Assist Technology has been upgraded with the addition of Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), Front Cross Brake Support (FCBS), Rear Cross Brake Support (RCBS), and Driver Monitoring System (DMS) on top of its already extensive list of advanced driver assist features.
The CX-30 is powered by a 2.0-liter e-Skyactiv-G engine equipped with the 24-volt Mazda Hybrid system. This
innovative system captures and stores energy that is normally wasted during braking into a lightweight lithium-ion battery. The compact motor generates an extra 6.9 PS and 49 Nm, helping boost overall outputs to 164 PS at 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm at 4,000 rpm. This is mated to a Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic with Sports Mode and paddle shifters.
Giving a fitting following to its introductory model during the company’s takeover of MG’s operation in the country, SAIC Motor Philippines officially launched the all-new MG One. Making it more significant, the latest offering is the first MG model to feature the brand’s revolutionary global modular architecture platform.
The MG ONE exudes sophistication with its sleek and sporty SUV proportions, accentuated by dynamic LED headlights and taillights that evoke a sense of motion even when stationary.
Step into the MG ONE, and you’re greeted by an oasis of luxury.
Plush leather-style seats cradle passengers in comfort, while an intuitive electronic gear shifter puts control at your fingertips.
One of the highlights of the MG One is its state-of-the-art 30-inch wraparound triple screen.
Beneath its stylish exterior, the MG ONE packs a punch with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering a robust 168 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque, a combination which promises a dynamic and exhilarating driving experience that’s as efficient as it is powerful.

In a dynamic response to environmental concerns and a national push for sustainable transport solutions, Filipinos are increasingly embracing electric vehicles (EVs).
The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) anticipates a substantial surge in EV sales in the coming years, projecting an ambitious target of 6.6 million units sold by 2030.
EVAP’s recent data highlight a significant spike in EV purchases, with 2,557 units sold in the first half of 2023 alone. This marks a staggering 500% increase compared to the entire sales volume of 2022, reflecting a notable
shift towards eco-friendly commuting choices among Filipino consumers.
Echoing this optimism, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) reports a positive business outlook for 2004. CAMPI
President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez underscores the industry’s response to consumer demand, with the introduction of new models and the expansion of electrified vehicle offerings, particularly in the hybrid electric vehicle segment. This diversification of options signals a maturing EV market in the Philippines, with a growing array of
brands entering the fray.
Central to this momentum is the implementation of Executive Order No. 12, a strategic policy measure aimed at bolstering the EV sector. This executive order effectively eliminates tariff rates for select EV types and their components, aligning with the nation’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and its imperative to reduce carbon emissions. However, the omission of e-motorcycles from tariff exemptions has sparked deliberations within the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), prompting calls for their inclusion
UnionBank of the Philippines (UnionBank) and Shell Pilipinas Corporation (Shell) have joined forces to introduce a game-changing credit card that aims to revolutionize the way consumers manage their finances while giving them the rewards they deserve. The new UnionBank Shell Power Credit Card gives smart motorists the power to get unbelievable perks and benefits, as they enjoy big savings on fuel, toll fees, and car services.
to further incentivize sustainable transportation choices.
Advocates like Atty. Vin Ching emphasize the socioeconomic impact of extending tax incentives to e-motorcycles, particularly for workingclass commuters reliant on these vehicles for daily transportation needs. Inclusion of e-motorcycles in tax incentives not only supports environmental goals but also addresses equity concerns, ensuring that sustainable mobility solutions are accessible across diverse socioeconomic segments.
The convergence of policy initiatives, consumer preferences,
and industry innovations underscores a pivotal juncture in the Philippines’ transition towards sustainable transportation. With EV adoption poised for exponential growth, stakeholders across sectors are poised to collaborate in shaping a greener, more inclusive future for mobility in the country.
In essence, the Philippines stands at the forefront of a burgeoning electric vehicle revolution, with the electrification of transport heralding a new era of economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and social equity.
In a key move to accelerate growth this 2024, JETOUR Auto Philippines Inc. (JAPI) has officially joined the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI), the country’s largest auto industry organization.
Effective February 1, 2024, JETOUR became CAMPI’s 15th associate member, joining 22 other world-renowned brands in a unified effort to achieve unprecedented growth in the local automotive industry.
In a meeting between CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez and JAPI Managing Director Miguelito Jose formalizing JETOUR’s membership, Gutierrez said “he saw the potential of JETOUR Auto Philippines.”
He added that JAPI could help the chamber achieve its goals for the year. “Our outlook for the industry is positive. We want to hit 468,300 (vehicles
sold), maintaining the momentum of the 9% growth of the industry in 2023.”
For his part, Mr. Jose said that a membership in CAMPI opens up even bigger avenues of growth for JAPI. “Being a CAMPI member elevates JAPI’s standing in an industry that is getting even more competitive. CAMPI is the country’s most recognized organization in the automotive industry, and the world’s most popular and trusted brands are either members or associate members. To become part of this illustrious group in an effort to reach an alltime-high industry sales mark of 468,300 units units is an opportunity not to be missed,” he said.
JAPI has confidently projected that it would grow its vehicle sales from 1,018 units sold in its first 9 months of operations in 2023, to 3,700 units sold (including 700 electric vehicles)
by the end of 2024. In addition, it has initiated a dealership network expansion program for 2024 that would see its number of dealerships and showrooms double—from 5 to 10 in Metro Manila, and from 7 to 14 in the provinces.
JAPI has also been invited to participate in the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS 2024) to be held from October 24 to 28, 2024. The biennial PIMS is CAMPI’s premier auto show that exhibits its members’ products, models, services, and other technologies related to automobiles.
The JETOUR brand was established in 2018 in Wuhu, China, as part of Chery Automobile Co Ltd, the automobile business of Chery Holding Group which was established in 1997 and now has diversified into automobiles, automobile parts, finance, real estate (automobile camping),
modern service industry, and ship building.
Since its launch, JETOUR had expanded its reach globally, and by January 2024 there were over 1 million JETOUR owners worldwide. JAPI launched the JETOUR brand in the Philippines in March 2023, and in its first 9 months of operations has achieved growth rates exceeding its competitors.
CAMPI was established in May 1995, and has grown to include 8 regular and 15 associate brand members. It aims to promote the interests of the automotive industry, in partnership with the government and other stakeholders, in order to achieve a viable and self-sustaining Philippine automotive industry.
The first four-wheel-drive Corvette is also the first with an electrified powertrain
Having kept the basic principles of the Corvette essentially unchanged through seven generations and 65 years, Chevrolet has thrown innovation at the C8 version. As launched in 2019, this was the first mid-engined Corvette, and now the E-Ray version is making it both the first with a hybrid powertrain and the first to feature four-wheel drive.
Unlike posher electrified supersports cars like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, McLaren Artura and Lamborghini Revuelto, the E-Ray isn’t a plug-in hybrid, nor does it use multiple electric motors. Instead, it splits its powertrain by axle.
At the rear is the same pushrod small-block 6.2-litre V8 engine that powers the regular Stingray (the LT2), turning the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. At the front is a compact AC motor that can add 160bhp and 125lb ft of torque, this fed from a compact 1.9kWh battery that sits in the tunnel between the seats. By performance-hybrid standards, it’s a very simple system, but it’s also a very effective one.
Hybridisation and the front drive hardware has added mass: about 110kg of it over the Stingray. However, because the C8 was designed with electrification in mind, it hasn’t forced any packaging compromises. Luggage space is effectively identical: Chevrolet quotes just a 1.8-litre reduction in the volume of the compartment behind the engine. It even keeps its dinky little ‘frunk’.
The most obvious visual difference is the widened bodywork, which the E-Ray shares
with the range-topping Z06, a 90mm increase necessary to accommodate its huge tyres. In fact, the 345/25 R21 pair at the rear are, says Chevrolet, the largest fitted as standard to any car. All-season Michelins will be standard, but my test car rolled on the optional Pilot Sport 4S summer rubber.
The cabin is similar to the regular Stingray’s. It gets new digital display options to show the battery status and how much power is going to each end, but beyond that the only significant change is a small button
next to your right knee for the Charge+ mode that replenishes the battery at the highest possible rate.
This means the E-Ray shares the same ergonomic frustrations as any other Corvette, including a high seating position and a ridge of tiny, hard-to-see buttons separating driver from passenger.
While the E-Ray does have an EV mode, this will probably be little used. It has to be selected before the ignition is turned fully on, it limits performance to a mere 45mph and range therein is less than five miles.
Charge+ mode can refill the battery in as little as three minutes. In Track mode, the motor will consume a full charge in less than five minutes. But selecting Charge+ reduces the rate at which it’s discharged, extending lap times by about 4%. MD
❝
It’s much more willing to play than other Corvettes and much friendlier at the limit
As its Stealth name suggests, it’s intended as a sneak-away option to avoid disturbing your neighbours.
Beyond that, the E-Ray keeps the same dynamic modes as the regular Stingray: Tour, Sport, Track and Weather (for slippery conditions), plus a configurable My Mode and a Z setting that brings up a shortcut screen for you to tweak individual chassis and powertrain options on the fly.
Despite a power output that puts it close to the hardcore Z06, the E-Ray feels much more like a punchier Stingray.
It rides well over broken surfaces in its Tour mode but is solidly lashed down in Sport and Track.
In gentle use, all power comes from the engine, but requests for harder acceleration get the motor delivering instant torque.
The contribution from the front is indicated by a synthesised whirr through the stereo speakers, this supplementing the entirely natural V8 noises from the rear, rather than trying to compete with them.
Fully lit, the E-Ray feels impressively quick, with increased traction obvious in the way that it launches from rest and punches its way out of tight corners without drama. It feels like a big car on tight roads but not noticeably more so than the Stingray.
It takes a track to show what the E-Ray is really capable of. On the road, its fast-geared steering feels short on feedback, but the higher lateral forces of a circuit – in my case, northern California’s Thunderhill Raceway –dramatically improves your sense of connection.
It’s also much more willing to play than the Stingray or Z06 and much friendlier at the limit, due to the front axle’s ability to keep pulling as the rear loses grip. Breakaway is remarkably progressive for a car with its engine in the middle.
The E-Ray also gets carbonceramic brakes as standard, which proved tireless under huge thermal loadings. It may not be intended as a circuit car, but it’s seriously effective as one.
Thunderhill also gave me the chance to confirm that the E-Ray is brutally fast, with its launch control mode delivering 0-60mph in 2.4sec, according to the car’s on-board timer. That figure makes it the quickest standard Corvette of all time, despite the weight penalty over the Z06.
Only at higher speeds does the E-Ray start to fall behind. There’s no electric assistance at all beyond 150mph, with the hybrid system becoming ballast from there up to the 180mph top speed.
In the US, much of the marketing behind the E-Ray pushes its virtues as a four-wheel-drive Corvette for those parts of the country with harsh winters. But electrification
has also brought both a new level of performance and, for those not chasing ultimate lap times, a broader dynamic appeal.
When the E-Ray eventually reaches Europe, it feels like it will become the Corvette to have.

Perceived quality is better than those who’ve driven older Corvettes might expect Widebody package from hardcore Z06 lends E-Ray a beefier lookPICKUPS have grown in popularity in the country over the past few years, evident by the number of them on the road. You can readily assume that 4x4 variants are ready to go off road, but a good lot of them probably never see dirt or get muddy. There’s that saying, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, which is true, but Mitsubishi went one better at the Triton launch and showed prospective buyers of the All-new Triton what they’d be missing if they didn’t take their pickups off the beaten path.
You’ll notice that the All-new Triton is has a completely new look about it, and pronouncedly bigger in all dimensions than the last generation pickup. Aside from dropping Strada and taking the Triton name, it’s Dynamic Shield concept front end has been updated, looking more aggressive, but the layout of the Multi-projector LED headlights and LED daytime running lights remain. It’s equipped with LED fog lights for the front and rear. Piano black trim accent the front around the grille and headlights all the way down to the brushed aluminum trim which hides a thick steel bash plate that protects the underside of the radiator and engine. The piano black wraps around the bottom of the front bumper to the wheel arches, which match the18” black alloy wheels wrapped in 265/60’s. More piano black appointments are the side mirrors, door handles and roof rails. Further back, the Style bar behind the cabin is also piano black with a grey inset with Mitsubishi lettering, the handle which opens the rear is piano black and the wrap around piano black ends with the bumper. The cargo area is equipped with a bed liner. The All-New Triton Athlete 4WD AT has 222mm ground clearance and new step boards.
Getting in is easy with the Keyless Operation System (KOS). Starting and stopping the Triton is easy with the Engine Start/ Stop button. The driver’s seat is 10-way power adjustable for slide, recline, double height, and lumbar. The front passenger seat is 4-way manual adjust, and seat material is orange synthetic leather with black suede inserts. The seatbacks have pockets to store your digital devices.
The leather wrapped steering wheel is tilt/telescopic adjustable with audio and cruise control buttons. The instrument cluster is analog with a 7” LCD display in the middle. The 6-speaker infotainment system is a 9” touchscreen display with AM/ FM radio, Bluetooth telephony and audio, USB connectivity, Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The infotainment screen also serves as the 360 and reverse camera screen. Air-conditioning is dual zone with a rear recirculator for the backseat occupants. There are Type A and Type C USB outlets in front and two for the rear occupants.
Its powered by the Euro 5 compliant 4N16 2.4 Liter Direct Injection Diesel with a Two-Stage Turbo which puts out max power of 204Ps @ 3500rpms and 470Nm of torque between 1500-2750rpms, this is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with 7 drive modes which is as easy as selecting the mode you prefer which changes engine power, torque output and transmission settings.

Rolls-Royce has had to adapt its meticulous production lines to accommodate the new, all-electric Spectre. Felix Page finds out how it was donePHOTOGRAPHY MAX EDLESTON
What can you do in 32 minutes? Mow the lawn, perhaps, or make a carbonara?
Maybe even squeeze in a couple of episodes of Friends if you skip the credits and fastforward through the adverts.
If you’re one of the 600 people employed on Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood production line, you know exactly what you can achieve in 32 minutes. That’s the ‘takt time’ afforded to each of the 42 production stations between the
shutter door of the paint shop and the pre-delivery inspection pen, and meeting that rigid deadline – whatever your team’s specific task may be – 14 times per shift is utterly crucial to avoiding costly hold-ups and delays to the delivery of cars that have cost their VIP customers (who probably ordered around two years ago) an average of £440,000 each.
In reality, each station is allocated a rigid 28 minutes’ worth of work, with four minutes of contingency time built into the schedule at each
stage to allow staff to sort out those rare tricky bolts and kinked wires. Over the course of two daily shifts, the Goodwood line must paint, assemble, furnish and propel 28 entire cars, ready for inspection, road testing and finally shipping. That’s small fry compared with the output of Toyota’s, Nissan’s and even Bentley’s UK factories, but remember: these are not normal cars. Instead, these are painstakingly specified celebrations of their owners’ personalities, and as such are referred to as
‘commissions’ rather than orders, each wildly different from the last and subject to post-production quality control processes that would make Nasa wince.
It is into this rigid, time-honoured framework that the new electric Spectre must slot, seamlessly, sensibly and with minimal concession to the somewhat glaringly obvious fact that it swaps Rolls’s mammoth 6.75-litre V12 for an electric motor at each end and a whopping 102kWh slab of lithium ion battery betwixt. Compounding
the complexity is that Rolls-Royce cars remain predominantly hand-built, with little scope for the simple reprogramming of robots and adjusting of conveyor belts.
That’s where Greg Denton comes in. As general manager for RollsRoyce production, it is his daunting responsibility to ensure the system runs as smoothly as the priceless Audemars Piguet timepiece housed in the dashboard of the company’s £30 million Droptail roadster.
Denton came to Goodwood in 2019 from the Mini factory in Oxford, where he had served in various roles since 1992, starting in the Pressed Steel Fisher facility stamping body panels for… Rolls-Royce cars. “It feels like a whole journey,” he says of his return to the brand.
the early-2020 arrival of the firstgeneration Mini Electric. It’s a car whose familiar silhouette and front-driven architecture belie the extent to which its innards differ from the petrol Cooper’s – and thus the work that needed to be done to adapt the Oxford line to build it.
Ultraexclusive, multimillion-pound creations like the £20m Boat Tail and £30m Droptail are produced on a secret separate line nearby.
“I’ve seen the whole evolution of car production in the UK,” he says, reminiscing about the Oxford plant’s journey from British Leyland ownership to BMW and through three generations of reborn Mini. But of most relevance to his role in Goodwood were his formative final months at Cowley, when the plant was in the process of introducing its most transformative and technically unfamiliar model in decades.
“Just as I left Oxford, we’d just finished installing the electric car into the production system,” he says, referencing
Denton, then, was the obvious man for the job when it came to integrating the Spectre into Goodwood’s output, journeying down the M40 and A3 armed with one clear and crucial takeaway from the Oxford transformation process. “It was really the flexibility,” he says, when asked to name the crucial ingredient for the successful production of two drivetrains at once.
“Creating a system that was able to cope with both internalcombustion engines and electric. It was the key, and you can see that when you walk around: we really have full flexibility, and that is absolutely the right way to do it.”
From our vantage point on the viewing gallery above the start of the production line, we can see what he means: the paint shop door zips up to reveal a glimmering

new Spectre. It is conveyed swiftly into station one, which has just been vacated by a Cullinan (notable for being of an entirely different size, shape and propulsion method to the Spectre), which itself displaced the Ghost now chasing a larger Phantom into bay three. And so on and so forth. It seems dizzyingly complex.
The 230 workers on shift dance around each other effortlessly in a well-choreographed routine that conveys an almost unfathomable sense of confident relaxation, given the deadlines at hand. Door panels, headliners and dashboards are arranged in neat, snaking rows at the side of the production line, each destined for a specific car and decorated accordingly with dazzling bespoke colour schemes or personally specified star constellation motifs meticulously woven into fabric with hundreds of metres of fibre-optic strands. Little electric carts whisk up and
down the line to replenish each station with the stock it needs for the next car, delivered every –you guessed it – 32 minutes from an on-site parts warehouse.
“It’s real just-in-time logistics,” explains Denton, once again alluding to the importance of avoiding hiccups in starting production of the first EV.
I ask him whether it might have made more sense to just set up a new, separate line for the Spectre, designed from the ground up for building EVs, but there’s a crucial reason all four Rolls-Royce cars are built in sequence. “If demand for any of those products changes, we’re able to cope with it,” he explains. “If you have a stand-alone facility and you plan at, say, 10 a day and the demand isn’t there, what do you do with the capacity that isn’t needed? Conversely, if the demand goes up and you’ve limited yourself to 10, you then have nowhere else to go.”
Helpfully, all current Rolls-Royce cars, including the Spectre, are based on the same fundamental Architecture of Luxury skeleton, which means many of the fixed points and dimensions are shared across model lines. It all aids in this relentless pursuit of flexibility.
This Spectre is one of the first customer cars to be built, production having started just days before we visit. One of several ordered by early adopters when Rolls-Royce announced it was developing an EV in September 2021, it is now just five days away from reaching the hallowed ‘F2’ point, at which a car is deemed ready for handover to the distribution network. That can mean it’s loaded onto a car transporter on site, a ship at Southampton or – this being Rolls-Royce – a chartered jet for delivery to its excited owner.
area that had to be adjusted to be able to cope with electrification,” explains Denton.
Process supporters (in grey shirts) are on call to support any station facing an unexpected problem and help them fix it before the 32-minute alarm sounds.
After ‘finger two’, where the car is “90% finished” with the fitment of its headliner, dashboard, interior, trim, doors and windscreens, it is rotated 90deg to rejoin the main line. “This is probably the biggest
This is the ‘hanger line’, where each car is picked up by a gigantic, ceiling-mounted cradle, to be shuffled along the final stages before it finally receives the wheels and motors it needs to move under its own power. “We had to completely change how we pick the car up, because we needed to leave the space clear where the battery goes,” says Denton. The extra weight of the battery meant the Spectre couldn’t be placed back on a trolley with its powertrain in situ. The solution was to extend the line by three hangers and keep the cars in them for the entirety of this stage, and then fit the wheels earlier in the process to get them rolling for the first time. “This was a fundamental change,” says Denton. “Two years ago we had a two-week summer shutdown and completely rebuilt this line.” The process involved 150 contractors re-engineering this specific section in the biggest fundamental change to the production process
since Rolls-Royce had opened its Goodwood factory in 2003.
Overall, what becomes clear is just how little Rolls-Royce actually had to change in order to prepare for the electric era. “In some sections of the line, it’s a little bit more complicated,” admits Denton, “but there are some where it’s
exactly the same, and there are a few areas where it’s actually a little bit simpler.”
He cites the powertrain assembly area as one example: “You take the engine and join it to the axle, you join the gearbox to the axle –but in an EV that doesn’t happen, so there are some stations where the content
is significantly less.” Some areas are particularly cleverly repurposed for the Spectre: the station that installs engines deals with the battery, and the team that fits fuel tank filler necks instead fits the charge port, for example. The fuel line fitters, appropriately, are charged with threading the Spectre’s high-voltage
Because the Spectre is so technically similar to its fossilfuelled range-mates, and the powertrain is one of the last things to be installed, many of the 600 production workers at Goodwood won’t have noticed a change.
“There are many stations on the line where the associate doesn’t know it’s an electric car, because the content in the car is made in a very similar way,” explains Greg Denton. “It’s clearly unique for Spectre, but the concept of fitting it into the car, how it connects to the vehicle and how some of the other parts fit is the same.”
But when the power electronics become involved, there’s no questioning the importance of further education. “Further down in the process, because we’re working with electric cars, we had to upskill all of our team to be able to deal with electrification,” says Denton. “There are different levels, and some people went on a very extensive training course – six, seven weeks at a time to get them to that level.”
battery cable through its chassis.
“Really the majority of it is very, very similar, and I think that was maybe the thing that most surprised us,” concludes Denton. “A nice surprise, that actually it isn’t so different.”
Appropriately, we’re now watching our Spectre – wheels on and windows fitted – come to life for the first time as it rolls slowly under its own power towards the rolling road for high-speed testing. It occurs that, really, even though the shift to all-out electrification is perhaps the most transformative move the marque has made in its 120-year history, Rolls-Royce hasn’t really changed much at all.
“As minimally as possible,” agrees Denton, smiling. Exactly as they always planned it.
Audi’s R8 has been one of a kind for 16 glorious, sometimes frustrating years, but now its end is nigh. Andrew Frankel’s got his ticket for the long way round, one last time
PHOTOGRAPHY JACK HARRISON
We had left the main group and were heading west. Fast. Somewhere on the border of Nevada and California, late of Las Vegas, heading for Death Valley. It was one of those roads you get in this part of the world: bullet-straight to the horizon, then a crest, then…
In our case, a state trooper coming the other way. So we’re in California, after all. I felt – how can I put this? – something of a tightening somewhere a chap would not want to be feeling such a thing, a primeval instinct to put distance between danger and your chances of fulfilling your biological obligation to the next generation.
Nor was I comforted by the fact that he was not at the side of the road with a speed gun. Only the night before in the lobby of some fabulously tasteless hotel, I’d been warned the law in this part of the world came with dashcams that could detect the speed of cars coming towards them.
The state trooper blasted past, almost as fast as a single expletive shot from my lips. Instantly my passenger leaned forward to look in the exterior mirror on his side, while I watched the one in the car.
And it was very impressive, as good a handbrake turn as I’ve seen executed at speed on a public road. Yes, that road was straight and wide, but so too was his Crown Victoria and he still spun it entirely within its own length, selecting neutral, flicking the steering, yanking on the bar, reselecting drive and jumping back on the gas with the aplomb of a seasoned pro. The only way I’d have been more impressed is if he’d got the lights and sirens going at the same time. But no: he waited until he was straight for that. “I think you’d better stop,” said a doleful
voice from across the aisle. No shit, Sherlock. He parked behind us, got out and slowly donned his big hat and obligatory Aviators before walking languidly over to us.
Window down. Contrite face. Don’t get out of car. Resist urge to say: “What seems to be the matter, officer?” Try not to think of the pocketsprung mattress and Egyptian cotton you’ll soon be swapping for a concrete block and bloke with a spider tattoo across his face as a roomie.
Trooper reaches car. Frankel cowers. Trooper walks around car. Trooper then spends some time looking at its 4.2-litre V8 engine through the clear glass screen at the back. Frankel begins to wonder. Somewhere in the inky depths to which he has now sunk, a glint of light appears. Trooper starts to talk.
“Been a while since I’ve had someone moving that fast ’round here.”
“I probably was going a little quickly.”
He didn’t actually say “you’re darn tootin’”, but I could see he thought it. Instead, he asked where we’d come from and where we were going before abruptly changing tack.
“So what is this, anyhow?”
“It’s the new Audi R8,” I replied.
❝
The truth is that it won’t be every R8 I’ll miss. Not even most. Just some ❞
“That an Audi?” I don’t think he’d have believed it less if I’d told him I’d been obeying the speed limit.
“It’s an Audi. All-new. Mid-engined. Quite fas…”
“I can see that,” he interjected. “Well, I just want to say that’s the most goddam beautiful thing I’ve seen since I don’t know when.”
The glint of light became a shining shaft.
“Would you like to take a seat? I can run you up the road if you like.” I could see the inner turmoil with which he was now battling. He paused.
“Best not, but thank ya. Now be on your way. And do yourself a favour, boys: keep those speeds for when you’re back in Nevada. We don’t have many accidents out here, but when we do, they’re real accidents.”
How good was that original R8? Good enough to charm the ticket book of the California Highway Patrol straight back into his pocket. His handcuffs too, probably. That was 2007 and when, at the end of that year, Autocar asked its staff and contributors to name the best car they had driven all year, the R8 didn’t just win the vote: no one voted for anything else.
I’m now 16 years older and possibly a little bit wiser. The R8 has grown up too but hopefully only one of us is now nearing the end of their days. And as the rather more familiar mountain roads of South Wales flow under the fast-moving wheels of another R8, I find myself reflecting on what has been an interesting journey, not just through space, but time too.
Because while valedictory pieces such as these are meant to be fond farewells to a soon to be much missed car, the truth is that it won’t be all the R8s I’ll miss. Not even most. Just some.
There have been so many, haven’t there? So many different power outputs, specifications and special editions, and the good news for you is I have neither time nor space, nor frankly inclination, to detail them all. And yet the one I’m in right now? I’ll miss that very much.
The light went out on the first generation with the V10 engine: a load more power it didn’t need at the expense of an exquisite delicacy that had never visited any Audi before. A backward step. Then, in 2015, the second-generation car, and the two things I loved about the first – the V8 engine and the fabulous manual gearbox that went with it – got pensioned off. The result was a car that seemed not to know what it was: too compromised to make it as a grand tourer, not nearly enough fun to cut it among the supercar set. I remember gatecrashing an Autocar group test when the McLaren 570S first came out and it was startling how far off the pace the R8 had become of those it chose to rival. I think the others in the test were a Porsche 911 Turbo and an Aston Martin Vantage. The Audi got stuffed.
And had it been left at that, I’d never be writing these words now. But in 2017, Audi did a very un-Audi thing: it actually removed four-wheel drive from one of its cars. It was meant to be yet another R8 special, but by making the first-ever rear-drive R8, Audi gave it something not even
❝
The public went wild for this lighter and, in all ways that mattered, better R8 ❞
those first-generation cars could boast and the motoring press and, as it turned out, the public went wild for this lighter, better-balanced, more predictable, communicative and, in all ways that mattered, better R8. So the following year, once all 999 R8 RWS cars originally planned had been sold, the rear-drive R8 became part of the mainstream family.
Which is what I’m in now. Because Audi has known for a while the R8 is in for the chop and so not bothered to update it, a lot of the superficial stuff is feeling its age: the clunky nav, terrible DAB reception, old-looking dials and so on. But the stuff that actually matters is wondrous.
That V10, for instance – that’s right, the engine I thought spoiled the original R8. In this more mature car, it feels perfect, so smooth and characterful, possessed of a sound, throttle response and rev range that’s increasingly rare in these turbocharged times. And the fact that this is the low-powered version with ‘only’ 562bhp? I couldn’t care less.
It also works brilliantly well with the reardrive chassis, blessed with enough mid-range torque to tax the car to the very limit, without ever threatening to overwhelm it. In an era when fast cars become ever heavier and more powerful, swifter to accelerate but more cumbersome, the R8 is the car that reminds you just how delightful it is to have a powertrain and chassis system that are actually in harmony. And because so much enjoyment is there to be had flowing this car from point to point, carrying speed into corners, placing it on a pinhead and balancing the car on the throttle, you never feel inclined to resort to the instant gratification of just putting your foot to the floor, because it’s all the car’s really good for. Fast food is fine as far as it goes, but this is haute cuisine and you don’t need long behind its wheel to see how much more satisfying it is.
So the R8 has come almost full circle and at the time of its passing is once more the sophisticated, rewarding driving machine I remember of old. I won’t miss them all, but I’ll miss this one almost as much as the original. And, believe me, that really is saying something.

The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team just presented its new challenger for the 2024 season – the AMR24. On a significant day for Aston Martin, the new Vantage road car and Aston Martin Vantage GT3 join the AMR24 – marking a trilogy of reveals.
In its iconic racing green livery, complete with Aramco title partner branding, the AMR24 represents a strong and exciting evolution from its predecessor which catapulted the team to eight podiums and 280 points in 2023. The AMR24 evolves the same design philosophy but there is minor carryover with
the majority of the parts being new for 2024. The continuous refinement of the AMR24 has resulted in a lighter, more aerodynamically efficient race car, designed to operate across a wider range of circuits.
“We are proud to debut the AMR24,” said Team Principal, Mike Krack. “It is the result of a huge effort by the whole team at our new AMR Technology Campus and it will allow the team to take another step forward in 2024. Since the last race in 2023, everyone has been hyper-focused on improvements in every area, concentrating our efforts on what really makes a difference, what really matters to be better.
chassis design is new, as well as the nose, front wing, front suspension and rear suspension. We want to compete in the development race this season and this car is designed to do just that.
“Another area of focus has been to broaden the car’s operating window. We have focused on more versatility for a wider range of specific circuit characteristics. We want a race car that is more of an all-rounder. We believe the AMR24 provides the ideal platform for in-season development and a sustained seasonlong challenge.”
Under the skin of the AMR24
The front wing design has been altered to help manage front wheel wake in a more efficient manner. Combined with the over-wheel winglets, the aim is to control the wake from the front tyres and direct it away from the rest of the car to allow the other downforceproducing surfaces to work more efficiently.
The current era of F1 regulations have placed huge emphasis on the floor and sidepod design. On the AMR24, an overhaul of the sidepods and bodywork has been undertaken to improve airflow management around the floor and over the rear wing.
Almost every area of the car has been refined and improved, building on our strengths, and taking on board the lessons of the previous campaign. 2023 was our best season to date and our goal this season is to score regular points, podiums, and fight for our first win in green.”
Dan Fallows, Technical Director explains how the team approached the AMR24: “Even with the stable regulations, there are endless possibilities for refinement. I would call the AMR24 a strong evolution of last year’s car and it does look quite different with many new parts to give us a strong platform for development. The
evolved. Getting it right will be of paramount importance to our success in 2024,” says Dan.
The AMR24 will utilise a push-rod suspension layout both front and rear. This sees the wheel assembly joined to the chassis by a diagonal structure, with a higher point on the car’s body.
The front suspension has been changed to improve performance in conjunction with the front wing and floor while the rear suspension has been optimised to maximise efficiency of air flow around the rear wing, accommodating Mercedes’ latest power unit and gearbox.
Drivers motivated and hungry for new campaign Lance Stroll #18: “There has been a real buzz around the AMRTC this winter. We’re still a young team, but we’re growing up fast. There’s that hunger and belief when you walk around the campus – a credit to all of the amazing people working here. We all want to push on from what we achieved last year, especially in the final part of the season when we made some strong progress – learning more about the car. I think that sets us up nicely for the new season and I can’t wait to get going.”
“The floor is the biggest area of downforce generation on an F1 car and it’s constantly being
Fernando Alonso #14: “I am incredibly proud of this team and what has been achieved in such a short space of time. Not
only the progress on the track, but the investment in all areas off-track at the AMRTC. I always enjoy this feeling at the start of a new campaign, with this season marking my 21st as a racing driver in Formula One. The whole team has worked flat-out on getting the AMR24 ready for the new season, but there are so many questions to answer in testing and the first few races. I am excited to get in the cockpit and start my second season in green.”
In addition to the AMR24, Aston Martin has also launched two new models – engineered for real drivers. The new Vantage is the latest in an iconic bloodline – the quintessential Aston Martin sports car and the most driver focused and fastest Vantage in the famous nameplate’s 74-year history. It is an authentic, unadulterated celebration of pure performance, engineered to deliver maximum thrills with maximum confidence. Timed to coincide with the debut of the new Vantage road car, the spectacular new Vantage GT3 race car mirrors the latest showroom model’s intensified performance, sharpened dynamics and eye-catching style, translating those qualities into a formidable new GT racer and starting the next chapter in Aston Martin’s illustrious motorsport history.

Gone are the days of enduring bureaucratic hurdles and long wait times when renewing driver’s licenses at the Land Transportation Office (LTO). Thanks to significant reforms and technological advancements, the renewal process has been revolutionized, making it quicker and more convenient for motorists.
Under the government’s new IT Project, the LTO has implemented a modernized system aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency. This computerized system has drastically reduced renewal times to less than an hour, marking a significant improvement from the previous cumbersome
procedures.
Adding to the convenience, the LTO has established Licensing Centers in air-conditioned malls, making it more accessible for the public. Among these centers is the recently opened LTO PITXParañaque Licensing Center, strategically situated on the 2nd floor of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) along the Coastal Road. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, this center caters to hundreds of clients daily, offering a wide range of services from renewals to new applications.
The LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center handles various transactions, including applications for Student Permits, new driver’s licenses, renewals,
changes in license classification, and other miscellaneous transactions. Additionally, it provides dedicated assistance for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and foreign license owners seeking Philippine licenses, prioritizing their needs with a special lane due to the urgency of their documentation for employment abroad.
Ella Bautista, Officer-inCharge of the LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center, underscores the importance of fulfilling requirements beforehand to expedite the process. Applicants are encouraged to register an account on the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal, complete the CDE Online Validation Exam,
and obtain a medical certificate from an accredited clinic, conveniently located onsite at the PITX.
Once all prerequisites are met, applicants can proceed to the renewal counter, where biometrics and headshot pictures are taken. Depending on card availability, the LTO can issue temporary licenses or the actual licenses to OFWs within 20-30 minutes.
Operating from Mondays to Saturdays, excluding the third Saturday of each month, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center offers a user-friendly and efficient experience for license renewals, marking a significant step forward in improving public service delivery.
