The new website is live!
Same old address, but with a new look. This website has been in the works for quite some time, and we are proud to finally release it. Some new exciting features include online entering for members, the ability to submit rodeo applications for committees/promoters and a shop for our APRA merchandise.

Firstly I would like to congratulate all our Junior National Final Qualifiers. It was amazing to see the amount of talent we have coming through and how tightly contended some of the Australian Titles were. It is a great achievement for these juniors and we would like to thank the Emerald Rodeo Committee for hosting the Junior Finals. They go above and beyond to ensure our Juniors have a memorable experience. Lastly, I would like to congratulate all our Australian Title Winners, Jayden Kenny, Noah Dingle, Darcy D’Aglio, Kade O’Dea and Libby Corbet.
Nebo Rodeo had another exceptional crowd and another large prize pool for our competitors. This would have to be one of the most wanted rodeos to win and it is a credit to the Nebo Rodeo Committee. I would also like to thank the Collinsville Rodeo Committee for adding another full rodeo to our calendar. Bowen River had another three big days of rodeo and it is a credit to Kimberly and their committee. With the Xtreme Broncs/Breakaway bringing a high calibre of competition.
The last couple of months have been busy with the roll out of the new members portal where you can enter/cancel out online and pay your entries. Even though it is not mandatory to enter online, we are getting a lot of requests from Committees that they would like our members to do so as they would prefer to go cashless and the internet service isn’t always great to take card payments. We also gave the website a new look which enables our Affiliates to complete their forms online together with day member entries.
With the northern run upon us, it is a timely reminder to keep animal welfare at the forefront of your minds. Please refresh yourselves with the Queensland Rodeo Code of Conduct. We are in the process of setting up an online Judges Clinic, with trials currently in place and looking at rolling out in the near future. Please be mindful that help is always needed around both ends of the grounds, whether it be help put neck ropes on, pull a barrier or chute gate, pull a slide or line cattle. Remember this is your Association and we all want a rodeo to run smoothly.
I would like to wish everyone the best of luck on the Northern Run and travel safe.
EXECUTIVE BOARD CHAIRMAN
June was a big month in Head Office! We launched the Member Portal with online entries and a new website!
The Website is live, and we are working away at uploading all the standings and results for this season You may have noticed that Day Members can now submit their nominations with an online form so if you have some friends who day member for events, please let them now Rodeo Committees can also submit Rodeo Applications with an online form We hope this makes it easier for our secretaries to get their paperwork in The Member portal is also available and being used by members to make entries and pay entry fees online You can also cancel out if you need to Some questions we’ve had so far
1.Ifyouenterthroughtheportal,doyoustillneedtocontactCentralEntries?
a. No. The online portal is part of the APRA system so your entries are entered directly into the APRA system.
b. You can also cancel out through the portal while entries are still open.
2.CanIenterthroughtheportalandpayattheRodeo?
a No If entering via the portal, you will need to pay upfront If you cancel out through the portal, you will receive an automatic refund to your card
b Your entry will show as Paid Online on the secretary’s Competitor Receipt list so no need to pay at the Rodeo
3.Whyisthereamerchantfee?
a. Merchant fees are charged for processing credit cards by the Merchant.
b We did a lot of research to find the most competitive price for our members
c This fee is collected by the Merchant and not APRA
4.DoIneedseparateloginsformyfamilymembers?
a. No. If your family members have the same email then they will automatically be added to your “family” and you can make and pay for all entries at once.
b. If you would like to add someone to your family, you can invite them to your family and they will need to accept the invite to join your family
c. You can also delete/add to your family at any time.
5.CanIpaymembershiporfinesthroughtheportal?
No Currently the member portal does not have this capability but is noted for future development
The member portal is another completed phase for the overall software development that the APRA has committed to, to improve services for members We hope you embrace it and enjoy the convenience of making online entries! If you need any assistance, please contact Head Office
Congratulations to all Junior Members who competed at Emerald last weekend Well done to our new Australian Junior Champions Thank you to the Emerald Rodeo Committee for a running a great event, Tiffany Pulford and her team have done an amazing job again this year and we appreciate the high standard event that you organise for our Junior Competitors Thank you to all the sponsors who also are an integral part of APRA Junior National Finals, please support them whenever you can!
The AGM is fast approaching, and submissions have now closed The AGM is your chance as members to have a say in how the Association runs It will be available on Zoom for anyone who can’t attend in Mount Isa, but we encourage you to attend and be involved in the decision making process
Another way to contribute to the Association is to nominate as a Competition Director – this year we have the Team Roping, Bull Ride and Saddle Bronc Director positions available. Feel passionate about your event, then stick your hand up and become involved.
As we line up for the Northern Run, please travel safely and all the best for the upcoming big ones.
BUSINESS MANAGER
I was welcomed onto the APRA Team a few months ago as Executive Assistant/Board Secretary/NFR Coordinator.
It was a pleasure meeting some competitors at Nebo and thank you to those who stopped by our stand to grab some APRA 80th Anniversary merchandise or a ticket in the Polaris Ranger
Part of my role is to support the Executive and Competition Boards, but my primary focus is the 2024 National Finals Rodeo.
Having previously worked in this arena (pardon the pun), for seven years, I intend to utilise what I’ve learnt to host an exciting event Plans for this year’s NFR are well underway and my aim is to increase patronage over the three days. I have big shoes to fill replacing Jill Lyons, but the APRA Office Team and Directors have been very supportive as I find my feet. My sincere thanks to Jill for such a comprehensive handover. This year’s NFR will have some subtle changes that I hope will impress not just our visitors but our competitors too.
I will endeavour to keep you all updated as ideas and plans come to fruition In the meantime, please spread the word about the “Wrapped In Rodeo” Polaris Ranger Raffle. Tickets are available via the new APRA website.
I’m excited to be working towards a spectacular APRA 2024 NFR and look forward to seeing you there.

Known as the pony pit capital of Australia, Collinsville is a little hidden gem nestled in north Queensland. It’s a small town steeped in mining heritage, only 80kms from the beaches of Bowen, but surrounded by the rural lifestyle. In 2024, locals and familiar faces in rodeo, Kaili and Clayton Braden, along with the rest of the Collinsville rodeo committee decided to bring rodeo to Collinsville on a whole new level. Joining the committee last year to volunteer their time and “contribute to another event in our community,” Kaili now holds the secretary position, while Clayton takes the reins as president
The energetic couple manage a cattle station 48km from Collinsville, right next door to the much-loved Bowen River rodeo and campdraft where they are also committee members Instrumental in the Collinsville rodeo’s decision to affiliate with the APRA in 2023, Kaili and Clayton had the cowboys and cowgirls in mind “We truly tried to stand by the fact that, the way moving forward, the APRA is opening so many more opportunities than ever before It’s the affiliation that most of the competitors are excelling with and where you find the most prestigious stock contractors ” In 2024, they took it one step further and boosted their program from a limited events to a full program rodeo
“We wanted to acknowledge that rodeo is diverse Not only with who competes in rodeo, but also in what area of the arena they compete We wanted to give ALL competitors the opportunity to compete in our little country town We also wanted the community of Collinsville to experience not only the thrill of watching bulls and broncs, but also to divulge into the timed events as well Whilst there are incredible athletes in the bull ride and the saddle bronc/bareback, we cannot deny that the timed events hold a substantial amount of talented competitors. And ultimately, we want to move forward and attract the best competitors. For us, a full rodeo program will pave that path,” acknowledged Kaili. They paired this approach with renowned stock contractors, Gill Bros and Destiny Downs to ensure both competitors and spectators alike had a first-class experience.
“We wanted to acknowledge that rodeo is diverse. We wanted to give ALL competitors the opportunity to compete in our little country town.”
Kaili Braden (Secretary)
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received in running our event this year Taking it to a full rodeo wouldn’t have been feasible if it wasn't for the likes of all our amazing sponsors We had 4 sponsors who truly saw the genuine good in our small community and the direction we are heading with the rodeo DMK Industries, Halstead Helicopters, HLM and Coafiled Service went above and beyond to help us make it the success it was” said Kaili After “blowing the cobwebs off” in 2024, the Collinsville rodeo committee plan to keep moving forward “We have some little things to finetune, we’d like to continue bettering our grounds, but ultimately we want to truly showcase professional rodeo to our community to the best of our ability ”
“It means a lot to me to win both the Breakaway Roping and the Allround Titles. It’s been a bit of a tough year with having knee surgery and not being able to compete in all the events that I used to.” - Jayden Kenny
“After a long season of doing lots of miles to get to as many as possible I was lucky enough to ride 6/6 and win the average in both the Junior Steer Ride and the Junior Bull Ride. A special thankyou to Brandenburg Bucking Bulls for sponsoring me and to Lance Anderson, my mentor.” - Noah Dingle
“After a long season of trying to make the top 10, leaving with the title was a super special feeling and something I couldn‘t achieve without an amazing village of people. A huge thankyou to my parents for doing the endless miles and all of those who helped is get there. Thank you to Sia, her consistency and athleticism shined through, placing in 2 rounds and winning Round 2. I‘m so grateful for her and to be along for the ride.“ - Libby Corbet
“I would like to thank Mum and Dad for driving me to all the rodeos and putting me on good horses. Thank you to Mark Heuritsch and Kim Moulton for letting me practice at their house and also use their horses. And to the Michaelis family for all their help. My NFR went really well. The people I had around me were really good people and that helped me do good. It was a bit competitive between myself and some mates, so that also made it fun.” - Darcy Dall’Aglio
“Winning the heeling title means a lot to me, as I feel like I worked hard and in the end it all paid off. I‘d like to thank Dave Shegog for driving me to every rodeo to qualify for the NFR, for letting me practice at his house and for the use of his horse. Thank you to Campbell Hodson for heading for me, to Dad and Debbie for helping out a lot and to my Mum and siblings for making everything fun. Also thankyou to Aaron Bookluck for heeling for me also at the NFR.“ - Kade O‘dea
“I would like to thank Dad, Campbell and everyone else who gets in to help push a calf or to get on their head. And thank you to Mum and Dad for the horses they let me get on each and every weekend.” - Jayden Kenny
“I’d like ot say a massive thank you to my Mum and everyone else for their endless support in every possible way; getting me down the road; giving me somewhere to stay; bucking practice bulls for me and everything else! Without their support I wouldn’t be able to do what I do.” - Noah Dingle

To celebrate 80 years of professional rodeo in Australia, the APRA has launched an exciting merchandise line including caps and fishing shirts. To view and shop the entire range, head over to the new website and hit the ‘Shop’ tab.
We’d love to see you out and about in our APRA merchandise. Tag us in your socials and help us share the celebration!
Ben and heeler Kai Clark place in the final round to les.
“Kai and I have the same gameday attitude He’ll always take the first shot he sees I have confidence in him, and he has confidence in me and I think that’s why we rope so good together ”
“I use a XXS Excalibur head rope from Fastback Ropes I love the weight, body and the action of them The best part is they stay open, it doesn’t matter whether you’re roping big or little horns, they feel great ”
“I’ve never ridden one as good as Drifter He gives me the confidence to go do my job and I never have to worry about him not doing his, regardless of the situation or the steer ”
“That steer, Toby and Rope had won a round on him earlier I knew he was a bit steadier and I just needed to see him out a bit and go catch him ”
“I’ve never been one to worry too much about the standings or where we’re sitting in the race. I try to concentrate on going and doing my job and let the winning take care of itself.”
