Our history It all goes back to mid-1920s, when Europe’s leading lighting companies joined forces to form the Phoebus Cartel. With the power of an oligarchy, their stipulated goal was to shorten the lifetime of incandescent lamps, and raise prices.

Facing that type of power, the future did not look bright. Yet, it was in precisely under such circumstances that LUMA was formed.

The Swedish Cooperation Federation (KF) decided to challenge the cartel by offering the best quality lighting at the lowest possible prices to the Swedish people. In order to do so, they set up LUMA. By 1930, the impressive new factory in Stockholm started up operations and shortly thereafter the first LUMA incandescent lamp was available for purchase in stores.
