That’s why we offer complete lighting solutions so that you easily can get lighting that is good for you and good for the future.

Our history

It all goes back to mid-1920s, when Europe’s leading lighting companies joined forces to form the Phoebus Cartel. With the power of an oligarchy, their stipulated goal was to shorten the lifetime of incandescent lamps, and raise prices.

Facing that type of power, the future did not look bright. Yet, it was in precisely under such circumstances that LUMA was formed.

The Swedish Cooperation Federation (KF) decided to challenge the cartel by offering the best quality lighting at the lowest possible prices to the Swedish people. In order to do so, they set up LUMA.

By 1930, the impressive new factory in Stockholm started up operations and shortly thereafter the first LUMA incandescent lamp was available for purchase in stores.

Still to this day, Aura Light is a team of trustworthy lighting experts, with the same rebellious spirit and humble goal: to provide better, longer-lasting, economical lighting solutions to our customers.

1930 - 1940 1950 - 1970

The new, state-of-the-art LUMA factory in Stockholm was completed and started up operations in 1930. Already by 1935, one-third of the total lamp production in Sweden was attributable to LUMA. During World War II, LUMA was the only company providing Swedes with incandescent light bulbs. Fluorescent lamps were also introduced during this time. By 1947, LUMA had 1,350 employees and was producing 50,000 lamps per day, in 4,000 different models!

LUMA’s product development team was making impressive strides forward with innovation and expanding the range of products. For example, specialized lamps for use in industry, film and photo studios. A constant flow of prototypes were being tested at LUMA Tower (Glasgow), lighting up the surrounding area such that everyone knew: “The light, comes from LUMA!”. LUMA also entered the market for radio and TV during this time and several factories were opened across Sweden. In the 1970’s, all lamp production was moved to Karlskrona.

1980 - 2000 2010 - present

With LUMA’s development of a new, patented cathode design and specially designed protective layer, the wellknown Long Life range was created in the 1980’s: high quality light sources with three times the lifespan. Several truly outstanding products were added to expand the range during the 1990’s and 2000’s. LUMA was also expanding internationally, opening offices in most European countries during this time. In early 1990’s, LUMA was sold and became Aura Light.

To get a comprehensive lighting range Aura Light made some important acquisitions: IQ Sensortech, Zobra and Noral, including factory and production in Vimmerby. In 2016, Aura Light Lunaria was declared to be the worlds’ most energy efficient LED-panel by SEAD. In 2018, all production was moved to the factory in Vimmerby. Now, our dedicated, talented team of lighting experts is focused on using the latest technology and materials to develop the very best, most innovative and sustainable lighting solutions for the future.
