Dear Educator,

Our K–12 School Performance Series is back, and this year we have another incredible lineup featuring some of the most acclaimed artists and shows from around the world. From music and dance to puppetry spectacles—there’s something for all ages and grades at the Gogue Center.

We believe in serving schools with intentionality and helping connect invaluable arts experiences to the academic classroom. It is our sincere hope that our annual K–12 School Performance Series will be a conduit for transformative learning.

With this series, you’ll have the opportunity to bring your students to live performances that stir conversation, spark curiosity and encourage exploration through creativity. Prior to each performance, registered educators will receive a performance study guide containing information about the performing artist or company, the art form, and relevant, grade-appropriate lessons and activities designed to help incorporate arts and academic standards-based learning into the classroom.

Within this brochure, you’ll find a complete guide to our 2023–24 K–12 School Performance Series and other helpful information to assist you in registering your classes for all upcoming performances.

We look forward to seeing you and your students at the Gogue Center soon!

Alabama Symphony Orchestra Peter and the Wolf

Thursday, October 12

10 a.m. c ENTRA l

In Peter and the Wolf , composer Sergei Prokofiev uses a classic Russian folk tale to introduce young audiences to the instruments of an orchestra. Students are invited to use their imaginations as the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) musically illustrates the story of a young boy’s adventure with his grandfather and animal friends! This symphonic fairytale is perfect for the young, or young at heart, as the orchestra shows the audience how each instrument, when combined, can tell a story. The performance will include a very special guest narrator.

Monday, October 30

10 a.m. c ENTRA l

Inspired by childhood standards like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Little Mermaid , B – The Underwater Bubble Show is a modern fairy tale with a major twist—each classic tale represents a journey of a child who grows up and learns a valuable lesson.

The show follows Mr. B, an office worker who discovers a magical little aquarium inside his briefcase and gradually becomes enchanted by the wondrous underwater world of Bubblelandia and its menagerie of aquatic marvels.

Taking cues from Cirque du Soleil, the visually spectacular Underwater Bubble Show incorporates the latest in stage technology to produce a show without barriers that can speak to children in any language.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled performance in March 1958 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African American modern dancers, that performance changed forever the perception of American dance. Today, the company continues Ailey’s mission by presenting important works of the past and commissioning new ones.

Each year, the Ailey Organization brings dance to more than 100,000 people in classrooms and communities across the world. This performance will include Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece Revelations , the most widely seen modern dance work in the world, which has thrilled millions since 1960.
