Greetings to all of the MSAA members, I hope all of you have had a great and prosperous 2024. As I sit down to write this, I have to ask myself “Where has the last year gone?” Here we are, fall has set in, and we are looking towards the holiday season, and then onto the MSAA Conference and Show I have been an MSAA member for over 36 years, and during that time, I have attended all but two of the MSAA Conferences and Shows I have also attended some of the NAA Conferences, but would have to admit, not as many as I would have liked.
The auction industry has always been changing, and it seems that changes are happening at a much faster pace than they did years ago How are you keeping up with the changes? From new advances with Artificial Intelligence, auction marketing technology, auction software and operating systems, human resource and employee management, contact management and follow up, federal and state regulations, there isn’t a day that goes by that something doesn’t change in the way we conduct our business So, what are you doing to keep up with the changes?
For me, one of the easiest ways is to take advantages of what the MSAA has to offer and attend the Conferences and Shows I can honestly say that if it hadn’t been for the MSAA, and information that I’ve learned while attending the many conferences, that I would not be in the auction business today Besides having the opportunity to learn from the industry’s best, it has provided the opportunity to network with others, and have created lifetime friendships that I now consider an extended family
I would also encourage everyone to take advantage of the many programs the NAA also offers The Designation courses, and CAI, as well as the NAA Conference and Show offer an amazing opportunity to learn and network with the industry’s best!
As I bring this to a close, I hope to see everyone at Treasure Island Resort for the 2025 MSAA Conference and Show January 15-18th President Kevin, and the MSAA Board have an amazing Conference and Show lined up Treasure Island Resort is family friendly and has something to offer for the entire family It is sure to be a wonderful time for everyone re-connect, see old friends, meet new friends, and to learn.
Best regards,
Dave McLaughlin MSAA Vice Preident

-Victory is Decided on the Field of Battle, Defeat is Decided in Your Mind-
"Whether you think you can or think you can't, you are right," - Henry Ford Perspective and state of mind play a pivotal role in defining our actions If we think we are going to win as we enter a situation, often times we do not give 100% Versus, if we feel that we are behind the 8 ball going into that same situation, we will try harder and perhaps be more creative in our approach
After it's all over, the score board makes it easy to see who is the winner and who is the loser I feel there is a distinction to be made between losing and being defeated Taking a loss does not mean you are defeated Every situation presents an opportunity to learn and grow Even in a loss, there is an opportunity to evaluate our decisions and actions; identify mistakes and shortcomings If you decided to "not win" before you ever stepped onto the field of battle (whatever that field may look like,) and if you do not take the opportunity to learn and grow from a loss, but rather chose to wallow in self pity, then you have been defeated The importance of attitude often determines our outcome
So, keep a positive self attitude Be intentional in your actions Evaluate your losses and look for the "little wins" in every situation Decide not to be defeated, and make your plans to attend MSAA Conference & Show in January Be inspired, renewed, reconnected, and refreshed to start a new business year Kevin and the Board have a great line up of speakers

KALLEMEYN
MSAA Family and friends,
As I look back on my three year term on the board of directors, as it comes to a close, I would like to take my final time to address you to educate you on what being a board member has meant to me and to encourage everyone else that has been thinking about running to do so
As someone who was relatively new to the auction industry in my young career, joining the board of directors at the stage of life, it did help open my eyes to the industry as a whole From legislative issues to conference and show planning, the challenges have been very rewarding to work through The things you learn working with the whole board, made up of auctioneers from different backgrounds, has been such a joy and learning experience
The professional relationships I have made have definitely shaped my career and will continue to be an asset to me as my journey through the auction industry continues Time spent on the board of directors teaches problem solving through a large group, time management for completion of assigned tasks, and communication skills through various avenues While it is a time commitment to fulfill the duties of a board member, it is well worth it
I would encourage every one young in your career to seriously consider a turn on the board of directors As I wrap up my term, I want to thank everyone I have worked with on the board of directors over the past 3 years I am by no means going anywhere and intend to be a very involved member of the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association It is, however, time for some new talent to take on leadership roles within the association
RAY CARUSO
Farewell Address from Ray Caruso
Since this is the last article I will be writing as a member of the Board of Directors for the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association, I feel compelled to express my gratitude to the membership for allowing me to serve the past three years For me, many things have changed in the past three years Professionally, there have been changes in the association- a new Executive Vice President, as well as changes in my own company- K-BID has a new address, a new president, a new marketing director, two new software developers, and an affiliate network manager A couple of years ago, we decided that we no longer needed a facility with a warehouse, so we found a building very close to us with room for our internal needs, and room for a couple of other tenants.
On a personal level, my wife and I are coming up on our 27th anniversary, our daughter graduated from college and has a successful career as a dental hygienist, and we added another dog to our pack; a very active Bernedoodle named Ziggy. As for me, about two years ago, I retired. There were several reasons that prompted my decision and made me realize that it was time. First, the company was no longer the first thing I thought about when I woke up I guess in some ways, I am more of a builder than a maintainer It was not that I no longer enjoyed the business, it just no longer excited me the way it once did Second, my age Yeah, I know, age is just a number, but every time I turn around, my number keeps getting larger Last check, I am closer to 70 than to 60 I have never had it as a goal to work until the day I die My dad enjoyed a twenty-year retirement, and I hope to do the same My father-in-law, Joe Soderholm, used to be fond of saying, “When they punch your ticket, you’re getting off the bus.” Sadly, his ticket was punched way too early. This brings me to the third reason for my retirement and something every business owner should think about I have no fear of dying, I’m not looking forward to it, but I do not fear it What I do fear, however, are the repercussions for the company My concern is not about legacy, it is about responsibility
We have been beyond blessed with the success of our company, but a by-product of that success and growth is that there is a substantial number of affiliates that rely on us for their livelihood. I need to know that when I “get off the bus,” somebody is driving the darn thing The new president, Chris Schwartz, has been with us well over ten years and treats the company as if it were his own I have no doubt that it will be I stop by the office now and then (they still give me a check once a month) but for the most part, I stay away Not an easy thing to do at first, but it gets easier I believe in letting the quarterback call his own plays When he first took over and would call me for advice or an opinion now and then, my response was pretty much the same; “It’s your call.” The fact is that he is better at running the company than I ever was. Not that I was bad, I was the right person at the right time, but the right person for this time is somebody who is more creative and hungrier
For me, I have other stuff to do My daughter and I decided that we could have a food truck to operate in our spare time, I do a bit of work with the Lions Club, and I recently bought a 1966 Mustang convertible that needs a complete rebuild
Thank you for your ear (eyes).
PJ FANBERG
“If you’re not growing ”
In 2024, the auction industry saw transformative acquisitions and expansions that highlight growing interest from major corporations and strategicpartnerships Two major deals the acquisitions of Taylor & Martin by Mitsui and Purple Wave by Copart reflect the evolving landscape of auctions, where digital platforms and global reach are becoming increasingly important. These acquisitions aren’t only beneficial for the involved companies but also create ripple effects that smaller auction firms, and Auctioneers, can leverage for growth.
Mitsui, a large Tokyo-based investment company, acquired Taylor & Martin to enhance its position in the U.S. truck and transportation equipment auction market, adding new technology and logistics support to Taylor & Martin’s operations Similarly, Copart’s acquisition of Purple Wave expands its portfolio into agricultural and construction equipment, areas with strong demand, and reinforces Copart’s digital auction platform, allowing broader market access for buyers and sellers alike
For smaller auction companies, these corporate acquisitions present both competitive challenges and new opportunities Large corporations bring significant investments in technology, and by partnering or aligning with such giants, smaller auction firms can offer advanced digital capabilities without the extensive costs of building their own Additionally, as companies like Mitsui and Copart implement best practices in customer service and operational efficiency, smaller firms can adopt these approaches to improve their processes and remain competitive
The Steffes Group’s recent expansion into Canada through the acquisition of Bruce Schapansky Auctioneers further illustrates the trend of regional expansion and cross-border collaboration By entering the Canadian market, Steffes extends its agricultural auction services and opens opportunities for cross-border equipment exchanges, benefiting both Canadian and U S clients Such expansions inspire smaller auction houses to consider partnerships and digital upgrades, strengthening their reach in a more interconnected auction landscape
The broader auction industry also includes public companies like Ritchie Bros , a prominent auctioneer of industrial equipment, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: RBA) Publicly traded since 1998, Ritchie Bros provides a range of auction services, and its transparency as a publicly traded entity enhances trust and visibility within the industry. In March of 2023, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers acquired a competitor of Copart, Insurance Auto Auctions, at a time when their stock value was relatively low and an influx of technological capabilities was a good fit for the organization. Meanwhile, J.J. Kane Auctioneers, owned by Altec, focuses on the sale of equipment in sectors like utility, construction, and transportation, benefiting from Altec’s industry knowledge and network to meet specific market demands. These examples of corporate involvement illustrate how diverse ownership and public trading contribute to an increasingly dynamic, resource-rich auction industry
These mergers, expansions, and corporate structures collectively signal a more integrated and competitive auction industry, where companies of all sizes can leverage advancements in digital technology, broaden their networks, and improve customer experience In this evolving market, smaller firms can thrive by aligning with industry standards set by larger players and exploring partnerships that enable them to offer better services to a wider client base
On a personal note, these mergers and acquisitions create incredible opportunities for professionals with experience in the auction industry As one of the few corporate-employed auction professionals on a state auction board, I see firsthand the impact and potential in this space Despite having thousands of employees, these large corporate auction firms rarely have representation at State or National association events This gap presents a valuable chance for experts from our association to showcase and share their skills on a larger stage, bridging knowledge between independent and corporate auction worlds
If you’re considering a career in corporate auctions, don’t hesitate to explore these spaces My own path began with running my own auction company, where I managed everything from payroll to plumbing and loadouts Now, working within a larger organization (Ritchie Bros ), I’m able to focus on the aspects of the job I enjoy most, leaving other responsibilities to colleagues who specialize in those areas For those passionate about auctions, these corporate roles can provide a fulfilling balance, letting you leverage your expertise in new ways and expand your impact in the industry.

Often we wonder why we do what we do and what motivates us to take action. We are all driven by different forces. Some are family-driven toward a family goal. Some are career driven, to a certain mark of income or infamy. Some are thrill driven, to seek the rush of adrenaline Some are travel and experience driven, to travel the world and experience the unique We do these things to find true contentment Although the definition of happiness and contentment are similar, the difference is that happiness is typically characterized by a more intense and fleeting emotion, contentment is a longer-lasting, stable sense of peace and satisfaction I have learned contentment through struggles of my own and others’, through birth and death, through tear-down and construction, through failures and triumphs I was reminded of something I once read Perhaps you’ve seen this before in whole or part Regardless, on my quest to educate, or entertain; inspire or give pause, I was reminded what I read once and felt it worthy of sharing.
“Stop Waiting for Happiness-Start Living Now “ (By
Chloë Rain)
We tend to think that there will be a point on the horizon that once we reach, we will have finally “arrived.” But there is no such point out there on the horizon. The only point you ever have any power or control over is this moment. This moment, the one you’re in right now. Instead, we make ourselves jump through hoops before we allow ourselves any satisfaction or self accolade. Because of this, we often put ourselves and our happiness off into the future. My personal hang up has always been that when I meet my soulmate and get married, then I will be truly happy and fulfilled I’d know my life has purpose and there was a reason for the longing even after all this time But the truth is, I have known many soulmates in my life My relationships have gotten progressively healthier and more rewarding, and all of them have taught me something about myself
No matter what the destination or timing of our arrival, life always seems to have its challenges Sometimes I see and feel so much suffering in those around me, I wish I could do something to take it away I’ve learned, however, that isn’t what’s best for us In the long run, taking away someone else’s suffering will only create more suffering, for me, for you, and for them Perhaps this is the most important lesson one can learn We must learn to release our own suffering, for ourselves There is only one person who can take your suffering away, and that one person is you It’s best to understand and embrace this about life as early on as possible There will always be challenges There will always be opportunity for growth and change There will always be infinite possibilities and potentialities available to us in every moment When you start living from this place of acceptance, life opens for in ways you could never have imagined
There’s a quote by Alfred D Souza that I think really sums up how some people feel about the life they’re leading: “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin real life But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”
Life is what’s going on right now. Are you happy now? If not now, then when? When you lose the 10 pounds, when you have the sculpted arms and impress people with your headstand in yoga class, when you get married, when you get divorced, when you write that book, when you beat that time, when you get that promotion, when you change your career, when you break six figures, when you retire, when you have that new car, when you buy that house, when you pay off your mortgage? Maybe Friday, maybe next summer, maybe this fall, when you sober up, when you have that drink, when you quit smoking, when you finally get over her, when you finally get him to notice you? If not now, then when? When you feel better? When you’ve got more money? When you feel less tired When you’re dead? When?
When we embrace true presence and grasp that this moment is the only place and time in which we have any influence or choice, we begin to experience that sense of inner peace that we’ve been chasing Not sometime in the future, but now Then it begins to seem as if each challenge adds to the suspense, the chaos, the possibilities, the romance, the adventure, the joy, and the mystery of life
So stop looking. Instead, start living now.

**Getting Your Foot in the Door: A First-Generation Auctioneer’s Observation on Breaking into the Auction Industry**
Just five years ago, before COVID-19 hit and turned our world upside down, the path to entering the auction industry looked much different Back then, the journey to becoming a professional auctioneer was primarily centered around developing a perfect live bid call and honing the traditional skills of the craft
I vividly remember sitting in my auction school classroom, listening to the bid calling instructor chant rhythmically: "One dollar down, now two dollars down, now three " I would often catch myself daydreaming about the day I’d develop a smooth auction chant of my own, one that would eventually land me a seat on the block. Sure, the school taught important business practices, auction law, contract law, and more, but for me, it was about the live bid call.
Then, less than a year after I graduated, COVID changed everything. Auction houses that had built their businesses on live, in-person auctions quickly pivoted to online platforms What seemed like a disaster at the time losing the traditional, high-energy atmosphere of the live auction became a new frontier filled with untapped potential
With the rise of online auctions came an entirely new set of challenges and a new skill set was suddenly in high demand Beyond the traditional skills of bid calling, auction companies now needed proficiency in technical areas like mastering auction platform software, working with Excel spreadsheets, cataloging and photographing assets, and marketing auctions online These technical skills quickly rose to the top of the list for auction companies, who were scrambling to adapt to the changing landscape
While the live bid call will always remain a part of the auction industry, the truth is that today, if you’re a firstgeneration auctioneer trying to break into the field, developing technical expertise can make you invaluable.
I’ve been fortunate to work for a thriving auction company that specializes primarily in online auctions, with the occasional live event mixed in Over the years, the technical skills I’ve developed have not only kept me relevant in this evolving market but have also allowed me to continue refining my live bid calling abilities as I grow professionally
For example, just after finishing this article, I’ll be preparing to call a live auction for a large non-profit organization The next day, I’ll be back in the office, reviewing inventory spreadsheets and making sure everything is properly input into our auction software
We’re living in a time when auction professionals can offer a wide range of services to both buyers and sellers. If you stay committed to learning and developing new skills, particularly technical ones, you’ll be well on your way to carving out a successful career in this dynamic industry
Never stop learning, and always think about how you can apply new skills to your work In doing so, you’ll ensure that you’re always a valuable asset, no matter how the industry continues to evolve

Greetings to all MSAA members and auction families! Hope this issue of our magazine finds you all well and at the tail end of a successful auction season The leadership and board have been planning a great upcoming conference in January with several industry experts and speakers to educate and inspire us. Make plans now to attend and continue the great tradition that we have in the MSAA.
Being we are in the Thanksgiving season as I am drafting this article it compelled me to think about what I am thankful for I am very thankful to the MSAA for the training, education, and relationships that I have gained over the last almost 30 years of being a member I have been able to work with several industry leading auction companies and form lifelong friendships all while learning from some of the best in the business The effort that I personally have put in to be a member and learn as much as I can about the auction method of marketing has paid off for me exponentially over the years This truly is a great association that has been led by auction professionals for years and they have constantly tried to do what is best for our membership. The rewards that I personally have experienced have been very well worth it And through it all I have made so many lifelong friends None of this would have been possible without the encouragement from family members several years to get involved The rewards are worth the effort! I also feel truly fortunate to be a secondgeneration auctioneer on my father’s side of the family and a third generation on my mother's side I believe that counting them all on both sides of the family there are double digit auctioneers to which I am related For those of you that are first generation and reading this article I encourage you to join the association and get involved in any way you can, soon you will feel like part of one big family That is what this association is all about, family Whether you are a new auctioneer or a seasoned veteran, this group is here to help, educate, listen, and guide your auction career. I look forward to another great conference and hope to see all my friends and make new ones this January
Respectfully,
Mitchell Siemers
The Auction Business is Here to Stay
Like any business, you have to change with the times I would like for you to come to the MSAA Auctioneers Conference to learn about new ideas I can guarantee if you come, you will learn 1 or 2 ideas to help your business plus all the networking
One thing that comes to mind when we were doing auctions in the early 90's, it was a ‘feather in your cap’ to have a lot of household and small farm auctions, 2 or 3 a week or more There was a lot of time in set-up, carrying things out of the basement, washing glassware, and cleaning out the garages The commission wasn't that high, 10% for the auctioneer and 5% for the clerk, but you would get $1,500 for an old hutch and cut glass and depression glassware was priceless. Sure there were some big auctions, but now you can't afford to do small household auctions. Old furniture is worth nothing and glassware is hard to get a bid on. So do your research and make your auction business work with the changing times
So come to the conference and get some new ideas and have some fun
Hope to see you there!

In the past I sometimes meet with clients and have a hard time figuring out why they called me Let me share a time this was not the case I received a call from someone looking for an auctioneer He said he had an old phone book and was wondering if I was still in the auction business. He shared that he wanted to sell both his personal property and real estate. We set up a time for me to visit him at his property. When I arrived, we went into his workshop with lights and heat as well as a bar set-up with padded stools I normally like to get to the kitchen table however the owner shared his home had a moisture problem along with glue used which has been making him sick I passed on viewing it as mold is not my friend He related the home was in a lower area where water flowed into it causing much of the problems He has been working on diverting the water with much of the yard tore up and mounds of dirt everywhere It appeared to be a doublewide with a couple lean-to additions There was a pond and rolling wooded acreage, approximately 10+and a sand driveway The owner shared that he and his wife were in the process of getting a divorce. At this point, I start to feel sorry for him and am looking for a way to help him. He then shared that he is not liked in the neighborhood and has been harassed by the neighbors.
He was hoping to fix the home up this winter for a spring auction As Paul Harvey says, “Now the rest of the story ” Many years ago, I had a conversation with January Schultz regarding who you are selling for and sometimes that is a big factor in whether you proceed with an auction or not This was not looking good The owner even opened the door by saying, “maybe you don’t want to take this on” This was wrong on so many levels I said I would need to disclose and all problems in regard to the real estate He agreed and said his wife did not want to disclose the problems, however he said he felt he had to be honest with the buyers (plus # 1) He shared much of what got him where he was at and was looking for advice. (plus # 2) he was being honest with me. I suggested he not stick a lot of money into the house as the next buyer might tear it down or relocate it on the property. I did enjoy talking with him and it made me realize there are folks that have much larger problems than what I face day to day
This meeting was in the middle of November and with winter on our doorstep, it may look different in the spring After over 40 years to doing this, I enjoy trying to solve problems, I just can’t walk on water for another month or so Could I make this into a win-win? Or would it be better to walk away?
Give me your thoughts at our conference and show I will have more time to talk

Rick Berens may not have known exactly what he wanted to do when he walked through those high school doors the last time, but what he knew for certain and what he had was a drive to succeed Coming from a large family with parents who worked hard their entire lives just to provide the basics, Rick was no stranger to hard work and taking the lead
Tenacity, drive, curiosity, zeal, and passion all describe what helped bring Rick the success and amazing life he led His leadership skills started early by helping his siblings while growing up He enlisted in the US Army and served two years, stationed in Nuremberg, Germany Shortly after being discharged, he earned his instrument rated pilot license and a degree in real estate. In between selling real estate, he started attending auctions in the surrounding area He quickly caught the bug and combined two of his passions – selling real estate and auctions The rest is history
His outside-the-box way of thinking and continuing to learn included attending seminars, and purchasing tapes/CDs and listening as he travelled from auction to auction on the drive to our cabin in Montana, and when on the long drive to each hunting trip He made a career of learning and sharing what he learned with anyone interested For several years he taught the auction method of marketing real estate for one of the nation’s top accredited real estate schools. As his wife, I can attest to his drive to succeed and “fire in the belly” for success. I am proud to contribute to his legacy by providing the MN Auctioneers with a scholarship in his name
The best is yet to come! It seems appropriate to close with the what are you waiting for?

Hello MSAA Family What a year it has been This past year serving at the reigning State Champion has been a year full of new and exciting opportunities I have enjoyed getting to visit other auctioneer members of the association and having the opportunity to sell for a few of you. I have had some unique experiences representing not only the association, but also the auction industry There have been a few occasions where I have been able to educate the public about what the MSAA does, when talking about earning the title of State Champion Auctioneer I have also been able to have several conversations about what the auction industry can do for people not familiar with it. I have had an absolute blast being your state champ I would encourage anyone that has not competed in the past to do so this year! The 2025 Minnesota State Auctioneer Championship will be January 16th, as part of conference and show at Treasure Island Resort near Red Wing As for those of you who have competed before, you know how much fun the experience is, and I would encourage you to come back and do it again this year I am a little sad I won’t be on stage with everyone this year I have made so many great connections through the years I have competed in this contest. Those connections have been so valuable to me which is one of my biggest reasons to compete in these contests Please reach out to me with any questions about the contest, and I look forward to seeing everyone in January

Please encourage the juniors and amateurs in your family to participate. Having participated in both events, I know they are truly valuable to the confidence and growth of future auctioneers We would like to get an idea of how many will be participating this year, so please call or email so we can have an accurate head count.
The Kasson Mantorville Areas Care and Share is a local organization run by community volunteers consisting of business owners, community people and school district employees Funds are raised each year through our Annual Dinner and Auction (Maring Auction Company has donated their time to us for many, many years ) All the money raised stays in the Kasson Mantorville Area. We work closely with SEMCAC, our churches, and our school district to help local families in need. We pride ourselves in helping those that “fall between the cracks” or just need a little boost
Our biggest funding effort is towards families in need at Christmas There is an application process for families and SEMCAC and the school counselors help us determine eligibility, rarely is anyone turned away We use the auction funds to buy Christmas gifts (both needs and wants, no electronics) for the children Each family also gets a gas card and a grocery card from our local Hy-Vee Last year we served 52 families and 134 children at Christmas
Throughout the year we also donate to the following:
• Several Residents of the K-M area receive assistance in times of emergency for fire assistance, rental assistance and vehicle maintenance
• Ready, Set, Learn (school supplies)
• St Peter’s Church A Place at the Table (free community meal every Wednesday)
• K-M Elementary Snack Cart Program (we donate funds so that every child gets to participate in the snack cart, many families handle this on their own, but there are a few that cannot pay)
• SEMCAC Food Shelf (when requested)
• Food For Friends (when requested)
• K-M School Challenge Fund
• Faith in Action
• Dodge County Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program (monthly books for children 0-5 years of age)
• Dodge County Sheriff’s Chaplain Program
There are often community members who fall through the cracks or just need a “one time boost” They don’t qualify for SEMCAC or other government programs but need a little support to help get them going or to keep going We are here to fill that void We have tremendous community support for our program and auction event People look forward to getting together each November and are very proud of the difference it is making in our community

MSAA Auxiliary Meeting
Sunday, August 11, 2024
Little Log House Village Hall
Hastings, MN
Meeting called to order by President Peg Imholte. Introductions and reminiscing about our first cars.
Secretary Report handed out. Motion by Rosie Przybilla, 2nd by Barb Zempel to accept – Passed
New Business:
Scholarship: Peg stated that we have raised the Scholarship to $5,000.00. Because of the amount we need to make changes to the Scholarship Application Process A proposal for a new MSAA scholarship review process was handed out Jessica Imholte stated that we need a more official way to evaluate scholarship applications She said we need to be able to send the application to different parties who are not affiliated with auctioneers to do the evaluations Anita Aasness said that she has already been giving them to a third party for review as part of her position on the Scholarship Board Jessica went on to say that these changes will be a twostep process The first step will be to find somebody (third party) that will evaluate the scholarship application perhaps with compensation Step 2 would be a written form for the evaluator to judge the applications by This step will be presented and voted on at the January meeting Motion by Rosi Przybilla to follow Step 1 as outlined in the proposal, 2nd by Barb Zempel Discussion on this year ’ s process Amended Motion by Rosi to allow the current Scholarship Committee to outsource the judging process like they had been doing. 2nd by Barb – Passed.
Scholarship Cont. Anita stated that she has not been in contact with Renee Berens for over a year. Because of this she is going to step down as the overseer and ask the MSAA to take over. They can then use this as they see fit to include more ways to use the money than just for education.
Conference and show:
The conference will be at Treasure Island. Stacie Maring said that the hotel has a pool and a bowling alley, and it is possible that passes may be purchased for these. She was wondering what other ideas we had. Bingo was discussed and all recommended we continue offering it. Anita and Barb volunteered to be in charge of picking up prizes. Tonya Witte volunteered to help with crafts and wondered if there would be a room available. Stacie will check into the availability of a room that could be open for activities for the Auxiliary.
Old Business:
Hall of Fame: There is one recipient this year.
Discussion on the future roll of the MSAA Auxiliary. Peg stated that at the National level they have found it hard to find volunteers to continue the with the Auxiliary They have discontinued the Auxiliary and now call it the Legacy Scholarship Committee. They introduced those that needed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and then reorganized. This discussion will continue in January
No further business
