College to Post-Graduation Transition Assignment Course Name XX points | Due date PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT: To prepare students for the transition to life after graduation which may include a full-time job, graduate/professional school, military service, internships, or other desired next destinations. The transition from college to the next destination is a significant one which can be exciting, but potentially disorienting or overwhelming as well. This assignment invites students to consider and plan ahead for how they might approach different components of the transition. Intended outcome: Advocate for oneself and others; seek and embrace development opportunities. Correlated career competencies:

REQUIREMENTS Assume you will live in an apartment of your own and go to graduate school or work at an onsite location 5 days per week. In preparation for your transition, identify the following: • Name and Address of the university/school or workplace where you are considering relocation to launch your professional career. • Name and Address of an apartment where you might live; include requirements for deposit and monthly rent. • Describe how you would get to work each day either by public transit or by driving your own car. What is the mileage and travel time to work; and monthly roundtrip cost (transit fare or gas)? • Build “your own uniform” using a business casual wardrobe or wardrobe most appropriate for your context for a 5-day capsule of items. Include the costs associated with the items you will need. • You will want to find ways to connect with people and opportunities outside of your workplace that help you to develop a sense of place. You may seek to do so through purpose-oriented organizations, social or recreational interests, or otherwise. Find local activities and connections in your community (near your future job or apartment) that you can follow on social media (Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn). Choose at least two of the following categories and find a contact for how you would get connected to and participate in your selected organization of interest: • Non-profit/charity • Social Group • Recreation / sporting club • Professional / trade association • Auburn Alumni Club • Religious / faith-based organization • Community based organization (CBO) • Local government representative

• Identify top tips you will utilize for navigating life post graduation. Refer to the resources attached for guidance.

DELIVERABLES Part I: Prepare 2 – 4 slides representing the information prompted above (using PowerPoint, Google Slides or equivalent). Your slides should contain the information requested and be visually interesting. Part II: Create a self-recorded video approximately 2 minutes in length. The video should incorporate the information from your slides without verbatim relying on reading them. It should communicate your findings from the prompts above and convey an understanding of how you may approach some aspects of your transition to post-college life. Submit the deliverables in one of two ways: • Submit a single video recording of yourself delivering the slide presentation OR • Create and upload your self-recorded video in a mpv file, separately from the slides in a pdf file.
