Mahler’s colossal Fifth Symphony embraces an entire world of emotion and sound, from the opening trumpet solo of the heart-rending funeral march to the tender and loving Adagietto, the most famous of Mahler’s works. Performed by an enormous orchestra, this transformative masterpiece is “big, bold, and beautiful, Mahler 5 will leave you breathless.” – Kirk Muspratt. Concerts begin with a “Classical Boot Camp” led by Maestro Muspratt and assisted by New Philharmonic principals, offering insight and backstory to Mahler’s works.
Ring in the new year with Maestro Muspratt and selections from the Strauss family including Tik-Tak Polka schnell (New Year’s Celebration) from Die Fledermaus; Chopin’s Polonaise and Tchaikovsky’s famous Waltz of the Flowers. Then, the night moves into modern movie favorites from John Williams, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Paul McCartney and of course, secret surprises!
For the first time in decades, Beethoven’s five piano concertos will be performed together in a spectacular event created especially for New Philharmonic patrons. Critically-acclaimed pianist Wael Farouk returns to the Belushi Hall stage to take on the orchestra’s most challenging repertoire to date. Your ticket grants access to all three hours of music, as well as an array of German wines, liquors and delectable pastries available for purchase during both intermissions.
