Uncompressed 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 and 1Gb LAN

We are pleased to announce the launch of the first HDBaseT™3 matrix product to the market

Using HDBaseT™3 technology, these powerful HDBaseT™ matrix support uncompromised 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 resolutions over distances up to 100m over a CAT6A. The new HMX88-18G and HMX44-18G come into their own with advanced audio features specifically designed for maximising the integration of AV sources in the modern home. Enhanced audio routing is achieved through the integrated audio matrix. This enables the audio from displays (via HDMI ARC or Optical S/PDIF), and all other sources to be embedded and routed through the system at the users discretion. The inclusion of a 1Gb Ethernet channel allows for LAN serving to all HDBT outputs / zones as required, IR and RS-232 pass-through, advanced EDID management, and PoC provide the ultimate flexibility.

The combination of these technology features enable our installation partners the ability to create a truly immersive AV experience throughout the home.

TOUR DE FORCE: WIN ON THE UPHILL

Every July, the Tour de France rolls across European screens with its usual mix of spectacle, scenery and suffering. EI has never been a serious cyclist. A bike was acquired some time ago, but mostly it gets ignored in favour of a walk across the South Downs.

However there’s something about the race that fascinates—and this year, I think it has something to say to those of us in the smart home and home cinema trade.

Watch the Tour closely and you’ll notice a pattern: the legends, the memorable moments, the real grit, all show up in the mountains. It’s not the flat stages where riders are made or broken—it’s on the climbs. When the road tilts upward and everyone’s hurting, that’s when class shows. That’s when the winners emerge. Sound familiar?

Most of us running or working in SME businesses know exactly what that climb feels like. It’s chasing projects, juggling supply chain delays, dealing with clients who want champagne results on lemonade budgets. It’s trying to stay on top of rapidly evolving tech while also doing the actual work. And like those riders in the Alps or Pyrenees, you often feel the burn long before anyone notices the effort you’re putting in.

But that’s the point. The climb is where the progress happens.

It’s tempting to think success comes from coasting during good times. But in EI’s experience—whether in business or life—it’s during the harder, uphill stretches that you really grow. You find better ways of doing things, you hone your skill, you get leaner, sharper, more focused. You become more resilient. That’s the stuff that lasts.

And crucially, you don’t need to be the biggest rider in the peloton to make your mark. In the Tour, there’s a whole category called the ‘King of the Mountains’—a prize that often goes to a rider who never wins the race overall, but who thrives in the toughest terrain. That’s a good analogy for many in our sector: you might not be the loudest voice or the biggest brand, but if you’re consistently showing up, putting the work in when it’s hard, then you’re on the right track.

SO, WHAT’S THE LESSON HERE?

Don’t be discouraged by the climb. Expect it. Prepare for it. And when it comes, don’t waste energy wishing for flatter roads. Just keep moving—because the view from the top, when you earn it, is worth it.

As we head into the second half of the year, with projects hopefully ramping up for many and challenges continuing to evolve, I’d say this: be like the Tour rider. Keep your head down, pedal smoothly and welcome the gradient. Because that’s where the breakthroughs happen.

Whilst we are on the subject of cycling, EI must give a mention to Ben Davies of Inspire Audio, SSUM and the Smart Homee group, who this September is taking on a seriously tough cycling/running challenge in aid of Together For Cinema. More details are available directly from Ian Morrish at Together For Cinema. Email Ian Morrish at ian@togetherforcinema.co.uk.

Saying goodbye to a friend: Andy Giles

As we were preparing to go to press, some very sad news reached us of the passing of Andy Giles. For those that may not have known him, Andy was a legendary PR operating in the Hi-Fi and AV industries for many years, a true one off and a character that will never be forgotten. Andy was very supportive of the launch of Essential Install and what we were trying to do with our magazine in raising the quality of trade titles in the AV space. On a more personal level he was such good fun to be around, always positive and taught EI the lesson that in this industry it was completely OK to be 100% your authentic self, more than OK, it was necessary. Many thanks to him for all the good advice, good times and bad hangovers.

LUCECO INTRODUCES FTYPE ELITE

FType Elite: Contractor insights drive next-generation downlight innovation from Luceco.

Luceco’s latest advancement in downlighting technology has been shaped by the people who know installation best: professional contractors. FType Elite is a next-generation fire-rated downlight engineered to reduce install time, improve usability on-site and solve common frustrations flagged by the professionals who install thousands of fittings each year.

This isn’t innovation for innovation’s sake. Every design decision was backed by real-world insight. Luceco’s product development team worked hand-in-hand with a contractor focus group throughout the entire design process, observing live installations, testing prototypes and refining features based on direct feedback from those on the tools.

“We’ve listened and delivered on the details that mattered,” explains Shyel Stark, Global Product Manager at Luceco. “By putting contractors at the heart of our development process, we’ve been able to build a product that’s intuitive, efficient and genuinely enjoyable to install. Every enhancement in the FType Elite is the result of hands-on collaboration with professionals who understand what works, and what doesn’t.”

BUILT AROUND THE INSTALLER

At its core, the FType Elite is designed to make life easier. Key features directly influenced by contractor feedback include:

• ClipFit System: Allowing full, unrestricted access to the terminal housing for quicker, cleaner wiring. Once cables are attached, a simple push into place and a lid closure secures everything - no fiddling, no frustration.

• Optimised Cable Exit: Specifically shaped for smooth and snag-free fitting through a standard 76mm cutout.

• Advanced NEL/NEL PushFit Terminals: Compatible with both solid and stranded cable types, these terminal blocks offer a firm and reliable connection every time.

• QuickView Window: A smart, transparent lid section that lets installers visually confirm cable connection - eliminating the need to reopen and double-check.

• Removable Terminal Block with 1st/2nd Fix Connector: This feature significantly cuts down time during 500V testing, speeding up installation across multiple fittings on site.

These features aren’t just nice to have, they solve real problems, reducing hassle and installation time. This is especially valuable on large-scale projects, where repeated inefficiencies can add up quickly.

PREMIUM PERFORMANCE, PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

While the FType Elite is packed with installerfriendly features, it doesn’t compromise on quality or performance. It retains Luceco’s hallmark design touches, including:

• A wide 60º baffled back lens that reduces glare and enhances visual comfort.

• Multiple output and CCT options, including a four-Colour CCT and Dim2Warm CCT variant, giving installers the flexibility to finetune lighting on site without the need for multiple SKUs.

• A compact, stylish profile that blends neatly with a variety of ceiling finishes, ideal for both residential and commercial applications.

Importantly, the FType Elite is fully fire-rated, Part L compliant, and has undergone thorough in-house and third-party testing to ensure it meets the demands of modern building regulations and performance expectations, backed by a robust seven-year warranty.

A VERSATILE RANGE

The FType Elite is available in regressed, flat, and adjustable versions to suit different lighting requirements and ceiling types. For wholesalers and contractors managing multiple installations, Luceco also offers the range in bulk 10-pack quantities, making it a practical choice for projects of all sizes.

“Our goal with the FType Elite was to engineer out the pain points,” continues Shyel. “Whether it’s improving the wiring process, reducing test time, or just making it easier to get a consistent finish across multiple fittings, we’ve tried to simplify every step. It’s a product built by professionals, for professionals.”

AVAILABLE NOW

The FType Elite is already receiving positive feedback from early adopters across the trade, many of whom were part of the original focus group that helped shape the product.

Available now through electrical wholesalers nationwide, the FType Elite is set to become a go-to choice for contractors who value quality, speed, and a product that understands the job.

BEYOND THE SCREEN

This month’s Together For Cinema (TFC) coverage looks at why cinema rooms in hospices are redefining the value of AV installations.

There’s a certain pride that comes from installing a finely tuned home cinema, from the acoustic calibration, to the pixel-perfect projection and seamless control. In the luxury AV sector, these are the benchmarks of quality and precision, but an increasing number of AV professionals are discovering meaning in projects that don’t appear on show home websites or client testimonials. They appear in children’s hospices and care centres and their true success is measured not in dBs or lumens, but in joyful smiles, sighs of relief, and quiet moments of escape.

Through the work of Together for Cinema (TFC), a not-for-profit community interest company supported by the AV industry, over 50 cinema rooms have been donated and installed across the UK. These aren’t vanity projects or token gestures. They are fully functioning cinema spaces with integrated high-end components, multi-zone audio control, acoustic treatment, immersive screen setups and, crucially, usability features tailored to highly specific needs, set out by the charities themselves.

The TFC installation at Dougie Mac in North Staffordshire caters to families who often cannot access traditional cinemas due to medical equipment, or the unpredictability of their child’s condition, as one parent explained,

“Enjoying a trip to the cinema is something most families take for granted, but for us it’s almost impossible because of my son’s big wheelchair and all the equipment we need. Dougie Mac’s cinema room is a brilliant space where we can all relax and just enjoy a film together.”

The feeling of ‘brilliant space’ is the result of deeply considered technical design. From the placement of accessible seating and the elimination of trip hazards to flexible lighting states and simplified control interfaces, these rooms demand the same level of planning and engineering as any luxury installation. Hospice

cinema rooms are rarely purpose-built and installers must often retrofit into older buildings with complex floorplans or limited infrastructure. AV racks may be tucked into awkward spaces, with signal paths routed through heritage walls, and audio tuned around medical equipment or high ceilings with poor reflectivity. The challenge is real — but so is the reward.

Charlton Farm, near Bristol, is a hospice that cares for the families of children with shorter lives, providing respite care so that families can make precious memories in a supported and nurturing environment. Here, one family realised something truly special,

Dougie Mac, Stoke
EACH, East Anglia

“Just being able to go in the TV room and watch a film on the big screen as a family makes us feel like we’re in the cinema, it’s something we’re not usually able to share.”

The Charlton Farm project was about creating a joyful family experience, in a comfortable, well-isolated room where noise and light could be managed easily for children with heightened sensory sensitivities. Understanding the requirement for individualised control means families and carers are always able to provide the most inclusive environments for a relaxing time.

The Dorset Children’s Foundation, benefitted from an installation in 2022, and their cinema room has become a daily fixture in the centre’s routine, as the venue reported, “It is everything we wanted and more. The screen is on every single day. The kids all snuggle down on the floor with blankets (as do quite a few of the parents).”

The AV system wasn’t just impressive, it was usable and worked intuitively for staff and families. The best solutions are invisible once installed and for spaces like these, that invisibility makes them feel less intimidating, and accessible for anyone who wants to benefit from the positive benefits of a movie.

REAL IMPACT

Of course, the emotional impact is undeniable. One recent installation at EACH (East Anglia Children’s Hospices) in Cambridgeshire supported a bereaved family during an incredibly difficult stay, “The cinema equipment provided movie nights together for the family and a gaming space for a teenage sibling, both of which were a huge comfort during such a difficult time.”

Gaming integration has become a more popular choice recently. Whether it’s a teenager connecting a PlayStation or a group of siblings bonding over a Mario Kart tournament, system

designs increasingly support multi-media use. This includes smart-switching for multiple HDMI sources, discreet, intuitive operationpanels, high-specification projectors and multipurpose, pre-defined audio-configurations that can handle the sonic dynamics of both film, games and even karaoke.

Jak’s Den in Scotland, even invented ‘Fishy Friday’, bringing families together for a Finding Nemo screening paired with fish and chips. Parents have welcomed ideas like this for their power to unite and make simple family pleasures possible.

“This summer has been difficult to find things to entertain both kids because L is really limited in what he can do. We are so lucky to have the support of this charity.”

In this case, the cinema room was an event catalyst. The AV installation is a core part of Jak’s Den’s ability to deliver experiences, not just services. The bean bags, the ambient lighting, the surround sound, all these contributed to a sense of occasion that lifted an ordinary afternoon into something precious.

These projects are technically challenging, with environmental considerations, complex

user needs, and the demand for long-term durability coupled with simplicity of use. But for the installers, they also speak to something more fundamental and the reason many of us joined the AV industry in the first place: to create spaces that move people.

For installers, manufacturers and distributors who have supported Together for Cinema, the value goes far beyond PR or corporate social responsibility. It’s a rare chance to deploy their skills in a way that leaves a permanent and tangible impact, not just on a spec-sheet, but in the lives of people who often need it most. In spaces like hospices and children’s centres, AV becomes something more than a way to enjoy the escapism of a film, it becomes a tool for connection, comfort, and care.

TRINNOV OPTIMIZER: BEST IN CLASS

Use the decades of expert knowledge captured inside the Trinnov Optimizer platform to deliver an experience your customers will love and underline your credentials as a world-class home cinema operator, says the Pulse Cinemas team.

When creating home cinema and luxury AV experiences for your clients, you want to know that you are providing the best performance possible. Naturally, you will use your own knowledge, expertise and ability to build a system tailored to each situation, but what if you could tap into a bank of abilities and knowledge created by some of the world’s leading audio experts to take performance to the next level? In a nutshell, that is what Trinnov delivers.

SYSTEM BUILDING WITH TRINNOV OPTIMIZER

If you’re not already fully familiar with the system, Trinnov Optimizer is a digital room correction and speaker optimisation system that corrects for room acoustics and speaker flaws to improve sound quality. Available since 2005, the system achieves this by analysing the characteristics of the speakers and the room, creating digital filters to compensate for imperfections, then applying those filters to the audio signal.

Even with some of the best AV systems available, if the characteristics of the room aren’t

addressed, performance won’t be optimised. Knowing this is one thing, but taking effective action is another – and this is where Trinnov Optimizer elevates your system building.

Recognised as best-in-class across both professional and domestic audio worlds, Optimizer technology is found in over 4,000 studios, with total high-performance installations worldwide approaching 15,000 systems. Trinnov Optimizer is not a passive system – it evolves constantly, maintaining its status as the most powerful and agile automated calibration system available.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Trinnov Optimizer is found inside products such as the Trinnov Altitude 16 and Trinnov Altitude 32 for the domestic market, as well as products like the NOVA, aimed at the pro/studio sector. The system measures both the direct and global acoustic responses of all the speakers in the room.

Direct response refers to the audio that travels straight from the speaker to the listening

position (the listener’s ear) without reflecting off walls, ceiling, floor or other surfaces. Global acoustic response refers to the combined effect of direct sound plus all reflections and interactions with the room – including standing waves, reverberation and modal behaviour caused by walls, ceiling, floor and furniture. This type of room colouration affects tonal balance, clarity and imaging.

Optimizer needs to understand both these measurement types to assess the listener’s experience and make room-specific adjustments. This allows Trinnov to apply precise, targeted correction – enhancing clarity, imaging and tonal balance in a way that respects both the speaker’s design and the room’s influence. Trinnov’s unique 3D measurement microphone captures a vast amount of information in just a few seconds, speeding up the process, but still maintaining the very highest standards.

One of the most important adjustments involves measuring the time-domain characteristics of the speaker, ensuring all frequencies arrive at the listening position at the correct time – a critical factor in high-performance audio. The system also analyses the amplitude and phase response of the loudspeakers, enabling further control and compensation.

After collecting detailed data, the Optimizer creates digital filters to correct for room imperfections and speaker behaviour. These filters are applied to the audio signal before it ever reaches the speakers, ensuring complete accuracy. Trinnov Optimizer also uses a multi-point algorithm, taking measurements from multiple positions and allowing greater importance to be assigned to primary listening spots. The result is cleaner, more accurate sound, free from distortions caused by room acoustics and speaker limitations.

EASE OF USE

Full training is available for Trinnov dealers on Trinnov products, including the Optimizer, at Level 1 and Level 2. In-person Level 2 courses will be available later in 2025 – but book early, as some courses planned for this year are already full.

While you can deepen your knowledge and leverage even more power from Trinnov Optimizer, the manufacturer stresses that the system is ‘designed for humans’ and is highly user-friendly. There’s no need to install external software to calibrate a space – all measurements are integrated within Trinnov processors, removing the need to jump between interfaces. The system works offline too, allowing progress even without an internet connection. It also includes onboard calibration wizards for easy setup and achieves detailed results quickly –even with just one sweep.

For those interested in a deep dive into the technology, Trinnov’s experts have produced a series of in-depth articles explaining how the Optimizer addresses the most critical aspects of world-class audio delivery.

Delivering best-in-class performance takes teamwork – and with Optimizer as part of yours, installers can achieve fantastic results every time.

RELIABILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

Providing the best performance is one thing but doing it day after day, year after year, is the challenge and the expectation demanded by both professional and domestic users alike. Trinnov provides a system that is designed to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the most demanding systems, such as Skywalker Ranch, and many other content creation studios around the world. This transcends into the residential world where the Altitude platform has an unprecedented 10 years of class-leading operation. The Altitude’s modular design means it can be upgraded as needed to the latest HDMI standards or additional channels added. New features are added by software, free of charge, so you can take advantage of the latest technologies, like WaveForming or Audio over IP, without having to replace your processor like all other products on the market. Trinnov backs this up with a standard five-year warranty with the option to extend for an additional five years as part of the warranty extension program.

BLINDING PERFORMANCE

Our trade-focused reviewer, Richard Stevenson, opts for Silent Gliss motorised blinds in his sunroom and is thoroughly rolled-up with the performance.

With nearly 12 sqm of glass facing south, the sunroom at the Stevenson Ranch was going to get toasty in the summer. Solar ‘E’ glass took the sting out of the greenhouse effect, certainly more than the plain glass windows and patio door it replaced, but I was still feeling a bit like a high-end tomato.

Having spent an inordinate amount of time building a blind recess in the ceiling (twice – the second time after the roof leaked), I wanted something sophisticated, quiet and shaded rather than black-out and fully synchronised so that the lower bars move together perfectly for the full James Bond villain’s lair effect. We have just the thing, said Stuart Tickle at AWE, at the time a Silent Gliss distributor.

Unlike our previous reviews, I cannot comment on the installation because the good people at Silent Gliss took over, possibly having read about some of my previous ham-fisted CI installs. They came out and measured up, offered a plethora of fabric samples with various light transmission values, looked at where I had put the wiring, and asked about what control systems I wanted to integrate. It was really rather nice being the ‘CI customer’ for a change.

At the heart of the Silent Gliss motorised roller blind proposition is its ultra-quiet motor technology. That makes them ideally suited to high-end environments where a motor that

sounds like a Victorian cable car is not viable. The system’s ability to maintain a shared bottom-line baseline, even on blinds of differing sizes, is an engineering feature that elevates the installation from functional to exceptional, especially if you are thinking about taking over the world from the room being shaded.

THE BLIND-SIDE

The brand offers a versatile remote-control platform with native RF handsets and wall switches, but they can be fully integrated with the likes of Crestron, Control4, Lutron, Savant and KNX. With the appropriate interface modules, installers can program blinds to respond automatically to lighting scenes, timeof-day schedules, or solar tracking logic, Alexa or Siri, or discreet touch-panel automation. For simplicity in a house where control systems and equipment change with the weather, I went for the standard RF remote control.

Installers can specify from a suite of fabrics offering different levels of openness and opacity, so you can develop a whole-home lighting and shading strategy. We wanted some sun shading in the room. Yet at the same time, it would still be nice to see out on sunny days and to let light into the adjacent lounge. Rated in openness of the weave, we opted for a very open 10%.

A few weeks later, the three blinds had been created, and Silent Gliss called to book their installer. It took around three hours, including a cup of tea and fighting some rather tight wiring in the snug recess, to install the blinds.

Despite the very shallow recess, just 75mm, the baseline of the blinds does not extend below the ceiling height when fully rolled up. That was a pleasant surprise that tied in nicely with the LED strip light I fitted between the blind recess and the frame.

The first demo involved dropping all three blinds simultaneously. They unrolled virtually

silently, fully synchronised and at a perfect pace, stopping millimetres from the floor, equally silently. Oh, it was enough to make me nip out and buy a fluffy white cat and hire a henchman with a bowler hat or a tooth issue.

A month on, and my wife and I have agreed that the Silent Gliss blinds are perfect. No, ‘99% there’, no ‘it would be nice if they did this or that’, just perfect. As a reviewer, I don’t say this about many things, but the quality, operation, fabric, near-silent motors, syncing and control are all brilliant.

For AV and custom installers working in the high-end residential and boutique commercial space, I would say Silent Gliss would be a prime shading option. In addition to roller blinds, the brand offers a vast range of shading styles in blinds and curtains, with impeccable fabric choices and, from my experience, flawless syncing.

While my wallet will take a little while to recover from being a CI customer rather than a CI reviewer this month, and we now need a new vacuum that handles cat hair, the sunroom is complete, and plans of world domination are forming nicely.

GAUGING TURNKEY VS. ONE-OFF SOFTWARE: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Jason Knott, EI’s resident number cruncher, former CE Pro Editor and data solutions architect evangelist at D-Tools, looks at these different options.

A unified, end-to-end software solution can organise your operation, power your growth, protect your profits and turn chaos into control. It is not too far along in the life cycle of an integration company that an owner realises the necessity of investing in software. It is virtually impossible to operate with any level of efficiency while still using a shoebox as a filing system, calculating your costs in Excel and writing your proposals in Microsoft Word. One integrator tells the story of a single formula error in a spreadsheet that caused the company to misbid a project by more than £75,000. Relying on generic software can be a recipe for disaster.

Once the decision is made to invest in software, an integrator needs to decide whether to go with generic off-the-shelf designed to accommodate a specific task or take the next step to purchase an industry-specific, end-toend solution. For many years, the tendency for most dealers was to invest in software only as the need arose. For example, when they needed a proposal-creation solution, they bought one. When they needed a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool for tracking leads, they purchased one. When they needed an inventory management system, they procured one.

Integrators likely have software for accounting/billing, proposals, design, CRM, scheduling, inventory management, project management and timekeeping. They will sometimes have additional software for service monitoring, service ticketing, vehicle tracking, payments and cybersecurity. In short order, many integrators find themselves with five to eight disparate solutions that do not integrate and have licensing fees. The result can be even more inefficiency from repetitive tasks like double inputting.

Today, turnkey software solutions are available with distinct modules for project management, inventory management, payment collection, service management, multimedia proposal creation, invoicing, CRM, sales management, scheduling, change order management and job costing. Integrators can purchase the turnkey solution and only utilise the modules they require, knowing that the software will scale with their business.

For example, a sole proprietor likely doesn’t need sales management, project management or scheduling since he or she is likely performing all the sales and installation. But once that first employee is hired, business processes need to be documented and tasks delegated. The turnkey software solution is ready to handle those elements as needed.

Here are five reasons why integrators should consider making the investment into an end-to-end solution:

BETTER INTEGRATION MEANS FEWER MISTAKES

A single piece of software that can bring together multiple pieces of software, from Excel spreadsheet to email databases to scheduling, is going to be more effective for reducing double-inputting and reducing errors.

The most common example where segregated data causes problems is among CRM, proposal and accounting solutions not being tied together. Often integrators are using QuickBooks online or QuickBooks desktop with a separate CRM like Zoho, and then a separate proposal-creation solution. Having those three solutions integrated together should be a goal.

BOOSTS CUSTOMER SERVICE

CRM helps you communicate more effectively with customers. Scheduling gets your technician on site on time. Inventory Tracking makes sure the technicians have the right equipment when they arrive. Project management helps keep the installation on track. A service management module helps make sure the system functions properly post installation.

ELIMINATES WASTE ON ABANDONED SOFTWARE

Integrators are used to purchasing equipment on an as-needed basis, so it is not surprising that they sometimes tend buy their software the same way, e.g., if there is a misplaced piece of equipment, it’s time to look at inventory solutions, or if there is a miscalculation in a quote bid, it’s time to look at proposal software. But purchasing one-off solutions can wreak havoc on the operation if those solutions do not integrate well, or at all, with other existing software tools in use at the company. Moreover, it can be a waste of money. A recent survey cited that nearly nine out of 10 integration companies say they have abandoned software. On average, dealers have given up on four different solutions. That same survey also noted that dealers spend an average of nearly £900 per year on software, whether that is acquiring new solutions or paying for ongoing licences.

Turnkey business management software solutions contain multiple modules that can be adopted and eventually scale with the business. In some cases, the integrator’s costs are aligned with the modules they use, so they aren’t paying for features until they need them.

DRIVES SOLID BUSINESS PROCESSES

One of the hesitancies among integrators who are resistant to buy a turnkey solution is they don’t want to change their operational workflow. For companies with established, efficient, streamlined operations, that can be a good reason not to change. However, many companies leave money on the table on projects due to their inefficiency. According to one survey, integrators who adopted a turnkey software solution reported an average of 13% increase in profits.

SAVES TIME AND BOOSTS BILLABLE HOURS

‘Time is money’ and that is obviously true in the integration business. The ability to save time by utilising a turnkey software solution is probably the most important result to measure. More efficiency means more profit, and ultimately more revenue because it means your integration team is onto the next project versus lingering on the previous job.

The key metric that reveals this improvement is labour utilisation, which measures the amount of billable time per employee. In many cases, integrators are billing less than 60% of the time they are paying an employee. Software can reduce the unbillable time spent chasing down missing equipment which often can’t be billed to the customer. At the admin level, just the potential time savings alone from not having to open different software applications is a time saver.

MADE IN GERMANY — THE JUNG STANDARD IN MANUFACTURING

Sophie Wills-Virk, Showroom and Marketing Manager at JUNG UK, visited the company’s factory in Schalksmühle, Germany. As someone coming into the industry and running the showroom in London, Sophie was so impressed by the standard of operation, and the company’s commitment to industry-leading quality, she felt compelled to tell EI readers all about it.

In the world of electrical installation, quality is more than a preference — it’s a necessity. Reliability, durability, and flawless performance aren’t optional features; they’re expected by both professionals and end users. Products and systems from JUNG are appreciated worldwide as a guarantee for reliable high quality.

What sets JUNG apart isn’t just a product line of premium switches, smart home systems and building control technology. It’s the mindset behind every part that leaves the factory. From raw material to finished unit, JUNG’s manufacturing process is guided by a simple principle: every component must meet the highest standards.

COMPLETE CONTROL

JUNG is proud to manufacture entirely in Germany. This is a rare commitment in today’s globalised world, where outsourcing is often the norm. Developed and produced in the scenic surroundings of Schalksmühle and Lünen, JUNG products unify innovation, functionality, long life and aesthetics. With a commitment to sustainable development and manufacturing processes, we prioritise short logistics pathways for suppliers and energy-efficient production.

This independence allows for consistency, innovation and quality assurance. With no reliance on third-party suppliers or remote facilities, we’re never at the mercy of unknown standards or compromised materials. Every product you receive comes directly from a JUNG-controlled environment, built to meet exacting specifications.

RIGOROUS TESTING

While some manufacturers stop at basic compliance testing, JUNG goes further. Our products undergo comprehensive regimens designed to simulate real-world conditions and then exceed them. A JUNG switch will undergo 50,000 switching operations vs the standard 40,000 – ensuring both aesthetic and functional performance.

From thermal and UV exposure tests to fatigue cycles, mechanical stress simulations, and long-term functional testing, nothing leaves the line without proving itself. We even test how materials age over time, ensuring that our switches and systems not only perform perfectly when installed, but continue to do so for decades.

We do not take our reputation for reliability lightly — and neither should you. When you install a JUNG component, you’re getting the benefit of a process designed to eliminate failure before it ever reaches your hands.

WHERE MACHINES END, CRAFTSMANSHIP BEGINS

For over 100 years, JUNG has been a pioneer in its craft. Even with state-of-the-art automation and robotics, there are moments in the JUNG process where human craftsmanship still plays a key role.

Our production processes are tailored to the properties of the individual material. We provide our switch designs in genuine metal, and frames and inserts are produced in the same material. That requires a different tool for each of over 200 different products and variations in finishing techniques. Aluminium is matt finished or lacquered, stainless-steel shot-blasted with glass beads, brass brushed, metal with chrome finish or refined with almost 24 carat gold plating.

Many important steps are undertaken by hand. For example, all brass switches are brushed by hand to make them unique. To reproduce the impressive colour depth of the Les Couleurs Le Corbusier, JUNG has the switches in this range painted by hand in a special process. This produces the matt surface.

From careful polishing of switch frames to detailed inspection of visible surfaces, trained technicians apply the finishing touches that machines can’t replicate. This is especially vital in our design-led switches and sockets products that are, fundamentally, made to touch.

THE DATA GOLD MINE BEHIND HVAC SYSTEMS

Fernando de la Cruz Quintanilla, EMEA New Markets Director at Airzone, global player in climate control, argues AI-powered predictive maintenance is on the horizon.

The global HVAC maintenance service market is worth over USD 78.4 billion and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 5.7% until 2032. This is no surprise, with heating and cooling systems being omnipresent in almost every building, from offices and homes to warehouses and schools. When they break down, the results can be uncomfortable, costly or even unsafe. That is why air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 12kW must be inspected every five years by UK law, according to TM44 inspection regulations. For installers, this all means one thing: maintenance is not optional, it is expected, enforced and constant.

Right now, most systems are serviced only when something goes wrong. A tenant notices it is too hot or too cold, the fan starts making noise, or the unit stops working altogether. The installer gets called in to assess the problem, identify the fault and replace or repair the part. If they do not have the part, they return again. It works, but only just - because this approach to maintenance is full of inefficiencies.

First, it is reactive. The issue has already disrupted the user before help is even called. That can mean downtime for businesses, lost hours for installers and unhappy clients.

Second, it is inefficient. Engineers often arrive without any context, meaning more time spent investigating the fault. Third, it lets small problems build up. Dirty coils, for example, do not stop the system outright but can reduce efficiency and use less energy than clean coils. Finally, it creates pressure on service teams. Emergency visits mean dropping scheduled work, which affects planning and profits.

That is why many believe AI-powered predictive maintenance is the future of the HVAC industry. Rather than changing the entire system, the data that connected products are already gathering can be used to anticipate maintenance issues before they even occur. Smart thermostats already track temperature, humidity and user habits in real time.

THE FUTURE

Looking ahead, by combining these historical and real-time data sets with advanced analytics and machine learning, climate control systems will be able to identify patterns and help flag early warning signs of impending malfunctions. A drop in airflow, longer heating cycles or unusual energy use might all point to a fault.

Rather than wait for a full system failure, the system could send an alert to maintenance teams itself. With predictive maintenance and smart diagnostics capabilities, engineers could also see how long parts are lasting and schedule replacements before breakdowns.

This data collection will also support customer service. A cloud-based log of the system’s performance gives engineers the full picture of the HVAC control system before even stepping foot on the premises – and in many cases, will allow technical issues to be resolved remotely, without the need for an on-site visit.

This is not just about avoiding callouts. When an on-site visit is required, predictive maintenance can help improve HVAC safety, preventing dangerous equipment failures that expose workers to unnecessary risks and therefore minimising accidents. In addition, predictive maintenance will help extend the lifespan of HVAC systems – which typically last between 10 and 20 years – alerting engineers to potential issues and addressing them before they become expensive repairs, and delaying the costly expense of a full replacement. We’re still a few years away from this becoming a reality, but the sector is rife with opportunities for digital transformation and improved efficiency.

ELEGANCE AND VERSATILITY

Mark Taylor, Director and Co-Founder of recently-launched Match Distribution, underlines why shading and lighting deserve a place in every smart home conversation.

As modern architecture continues to embrace open-plan living and expansive glazing, managing natural light and internal comfort has become a critical component of smart home design. Yet, blinds and shutters are often still treated as an afterthought—more soft furnishing than technology. That mindset is shifting.

Today’s integrated shading and lighting systems do far more than decorate. They can actively enhance energy efficiency, improve comfort and enrich a home’s aesthetics. With the right design and installation, they also become key components in the drive for intuitive, sustainable living.

For custom installers, this represents a huge opportunity—one that not only elevates the quality of the project but also strengthens the overall client relationship. When approached correctly, lighting and shading solutions demonstrate the tangible benefits of smart technology in everyday life.

Professionally-installed shading can dramatically reduce solar gain in summer and mitigate heat loss in winter. It helps regulate indoor temperature and limits the need for heating and cooling—making it a compelling solution in an era where environmental considerations and energy costs are front of mind. It also plays a crucial role in improving visual comfort, reducing glare in media rooms or working spaces and enhancing privacy.

What makes these solutions truly powerful is their ability to work in tandem with lighting, climate control and multimedia systems to

create environments that adapt to the way people live. Scene setting, automation and sensor-driven behaviour are no longer just for lighting—they’re essential to shading too. Imagine blinds that silently lower as a film starts, lights that adapt to ambient daylight, or an entire room that wakes up with the morning routine.

This is not just about convenience—it’s about experience. These small, seamless moments accumulate to transform a house into a genuinely intelligent home.

THE SOLUTION

At the heart of this evolving ecosystem are technologies like Domex and Unify Shading, two brands we have recently started working with. Rather than seeing them as mere products, it’s more useful to view them as platforms—tools in the hands of skilled installers who are shaping the next generation of living spaces. Domex enables sophisticated control of lighting, shading and climate using both centralised and distributed architecture. It offers flexibility for both new-build and retrofit projects, and its ability to integrate with standard wiring protocols simplifies design and installation.

Unify Shading, meanwhile, highlights how much shading technology has progressed. Manufactured in the UK, it provides advanced functionality such as synchronised hem bar alignment, blind position feedback and seamless integration with major control platforms. Features like obstacle detection,

wireless and IP control, and the ability to power multiple blinds from a single cable, move shading from the periphery to the core of the smart home conversation.

However, aesthetics must not be left behind. The visual and tactile elements of shading— textures, colours, materials—play a vital role in how a space feels. The installer’s job is to merge this design sensitivity with technical excellence, delivering a solution that works beautifully and looks effortless.

Crucially, this is an area where the custom installer can lead—not follow. While end users might know they want smart lighting or a stylish blind, few understand how powerful and elegant these systems can become when thoughtfully designed. By acting as educators, consultants and craftsmen, installers have the chance to broaden client horizons and raise project standards.

The future of intelligent living doesn’t just lie in the performance of systems, but in their subtlety—the ability to blend into the environment while enhancing every moment lived within it. That’s the real magic.

As demand grows for smart, sustainable, and stylish homes, the custom install community is perfectly placed to lead. Lighting and shading are no longer optional extras—they are foundational elements of good design and comfortable living. Those who embrace this shift and see beyond the traditional definitions of AV integration will shape the most compelling homes of tomorrow.

THE ART OF AMBIENCE: COLOUR TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Rako underlines the opportunities surrounding the power to truly control colour temperature.

When it comes to creating mood and atmosphere through lighting, colour temperature is now a key creative tool. No longer reserved for highend or specialist installations, the ability to finely tune colour temperature is now more accessible than ever, thanks to advances from forwardthinking manufacturers like Rako Controls.

Lighting designers and smart home professionals are increasingly turning to this feature to help shape spaces that don’t just look right—they feel right too. Whether it’s the energising clarity of cool white for morning productivity, or the soothing warmth of a golden glow in the evening, controlling colour temperature allows lighting to support wellbeing and enhance everyday life.

Rako Controls has long understood this. A pioneer in the lighting control sector, the company has spent years developing products that give professionals the freedom and precision to manipulate lighting tone. The company underlines its expertise in this area by highlighting the range of solutions available to support the sophisticated management of colour temperature, helping integrators deliver immersive, flexible environments for their clients.

For those working on constant voltage applications, Rako offers its tried-andtested RLED30CV4, which is well suited for installations using two-channel LED tape. For constant current fittings, the RLED20+CC4 provides similar capabilities. These products

allow for full customisation of the lit space by adjusting the balance between warm and cool white LEDs—an approach that has long enabled designers to create exactly the right atmosphere for any given task or mood.

Traditionally, this meant carefully blending the two colour outputs—cool and warm—by manually adjusting their levels. It’s a method that gives control, but often requires expert configuration. However, as LED technology has evolved, so has Rako’s approach.

A particularly interesting development in recent years has been the emergence of ‘dim to warm’ fittings. These replicate the warm dimming curve of traditional incandescent lamps, making it possible to get that same inviting, soft light when dimmed—something that was once only achievable with conventional mains dimmers.

Rako has embraced this trend, going a step further to simplify how users interact with this functionality. The new-generation products, including the updated RLED30CV4+ and addressable DALI controllers, now offer dim to warm capability via a single channel. This marks a significant shift towards more userfriendly lighting control without compromising on flexibility or performance.

For the end user, the impact of this change is substantial. Controlling lighting through the Rako app is a seamless experience, says the company. You don’t need to understand the

technicalities of LED blending—simply tell the system what you want in terms of brightness and warmth, and Rako does the rest. The app intelligently handles the balance between cool and warm outputs to match the exact specification, making it straightforward to tailor lighting for every moment of the day.

Imagine preparing the home for a dinner party, shifting from functional task lighting in the kitchen to a soft, ambient tone in the dining area—all controlled from a phone or tablet. Or adjusting the bedroom lights to slowly warm up in the morning, helping users to wake gently and naturally. These aren’t just luxury features— they’re part of a growing expectation for how lighting should work in modern spaces.

Behind the scenes, Rako says its commitment to ongoing product development ensures that installers and designers always have access to the latest tools and capabilities. The result is a range of solutions that are not only technically advanced but also aligned with how people want to live.

In a world where lighting can influence everything from mood to productivity, Rako is helping integrators deliver systems that do more than illuminate—they enhance. With colour temperature control now within reach for more projects than ever, there’s never been a better time to explore the full potential of intelligent lighting.

TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

EI met with Charles Pearce, Founder of a new immersive software platform called ImersU, offering installers the chance to deliver a whole raft of new in-home experiences.

Working from an impressive demonstration space at the London HQ of the Grosvenor Group, one of the oldest real estate companies on the planet (founded in the 17th century), ImersU delivers immersive fitness, wellness and multimedia experiences designed to transform indoor fitness and wellness activities. With 30 years’ experience in the high-end property market, Charles has a keen eye for the highnet-worth residential sector and created the system to offer a versatile content platform and additional revenue stream for integrators. A key aim for Charles was the opportunity to feel close to the natural world when at home. Whether exercising or relaxing, the system provides the chance to spend time in nature using sophisticated AV experiences, even including scent when appropriate. The system can also be used as an entertainment space, watching content from any online app or via a hardware content delivery system through HDMI. ImersU provides all the software needed to operate the system as well as an in-room panel to serve as the main control point. There is also a control app available. Any integrator wanting to use the system combines the software with projectors, speakers, microphones and

lighting across up to three screens or walls to deliver a complete in-room experience. ImersU is supported by multiple graphics cards with resolution capabilities of 4 x 4K or 8K and 33 million pixels to ensure visual quality. Other hardware that can be employed includes Advatec Light Controls, HDFury EDID emulators and Casambi Gateway controls for the scent and switches for routing and cross-server connections. The system can also communicate with any DMX control system and use NDI technology to connect multiple servers and content sources. ImersU also offers a plug and play option for laptops, games consoles or other HDMI-capable devices.

TRUE IMMERSION

The most immersive experience is achieved when using three displays or walls in partnership with three or four projectors. This can deliver up to a 14m+ x 2.8m display across three walls, giving a 220° field of view. The majority of 16:9 content can also be mirrored on all three walls for enhanced wellness or fitness experiences.

The platform can also be used with a single projector; in this mode the content is presented in super-size at around 5m wide and 2.8m

high, augmented with sound, light and visual references. If two projectors are employed, an ultra-wide experience of about 9m wide and 2.8m high can be delivered.

The hardware integration does not stop at the equipment needed to make the AV and communication aspects work. ImersU can be integrated (usually over Bluetooth) with treadmills, turbo trainers and ergos, as well as content providers that stream yoga, pilates, mindfulness and HIIT classes. Charles explains, “We also have the ability to bring in life-sized trainers into the space via video call for personalised one-to-one sessions. When you realise that approximately 70% of communication is non-verbal, this feature allows for a deeper human connection when being physically together is not possible.”

For content such as Peloton, instructors can be viewed in repeat mode across three walls, a good option for studio training as the user’s view of the instructor can often be obscured by their own body if the only view is directly in front. Charles explains that another feature in development is to allow trainers to appear at eye level with the client to promote better communication.

IN DEMONSTRATION

With the technical aspects understood, EI was keen to experience the system and it is highly impressive. The 220° field of view (FOV) is particularly important. The human eye’s total horizontal FOV is about 210–220° (including peripheral vision). However, only about 120° of that is covered by binocular vision (where both eyes overlap for depth perception); the rest is peripheral, but still detected and still very important. A display or projection with a 220° FOV can fill nearly the entire natural horizontal view, creating a strong wraparound effect. Because of the way humans have evolved, when our peripheral vision is engaged, our brains are tricked into feeling more present in the scene because the edges of the image do not break the illusion. When using the system, this is its most powerful aspect. You really do feel ‘in’ the scene, not just looking at it. The AV experiences are of genuine quality with believable movement, right down to the wind blowing the vegetation on the pinewood walk EI experienced. Even the scent part of the system, which could have been a little gimmicky if not delivered well, adds a pleasant

extra layer. The ability to switch the time of day and type of weather is also very impressive — want to go for a walk in a thunderstorm at midnight? No problem. Another strong feature is that in the nature experience mode (albeit faster than normal) time passes, so if you stay in the room the content shifts accordingly. Users, or those assisting them, can also capture their own footage and play it back on the system, reliving past experiences or simply their favourite places to exercise or relax. Aimed at immersive fitness, wellness and multimedia experiences, the sky really is the limit in terms of what you can

get the system to do and each client can have experiences built exactly for them.

Charles concludes, “We want to talk with integrators who feel they have the client base and experience needed to deliver these unique and fulfilling experiences. It’s a totally new concept to offer your customers and we feel that in partnership with ImersU integrators can deliver truly bespoke and fulfilling solutions. “We offer integrators full design, installation support and training, while we assist through to handover and induction for the end user to ensure the ultimate ImersU experience.”

HIGH-END GAMING: THE SMART HOME’S NEXT FRONTIER

Mike Newson, Gaming Notebook Business Manager, Acer UK, games out the future of this sector.

High-end gaming is quickly becoming a core feature of the modern smart home. No longer confined to a desk or bedroom, it’s now evolving into a premium, fully integrated entertainment experience—demanding attention to network performance, display quality, acoustics and how the entire environment comes together.

For smart home and home cinema installers, this is a growing opportunity that’s hard to ignore. Just as a top-tier home cinema setup creates a deeply immersive viewing experience, a carefully considered gaming space can elevate everything from casual play to competitive esports. The tech is already there—what’s needed is the expertise to bring it all together.

At Acer, we’ve seen this shift firsthand. Gamers today are highly discerning. They expect ultra-smooth, cinematic visuals with high frame rates, while also demanding low-latency connectivity that can handle cloud gaming, streaming and intense online multiplayer sessions. This is not just about performance— it’s about experience. And it’s a demanding setup—but one that professional installers are perfectly placed to deliver.

Take our Predator Helios 18, for instance. It features a 4K Mini LED display with 1000 nits brightness—ideal for bright, open-plan living areas where natural light can’t always be controlled. Meanwhile, the Helios 16 laptop

offers an OLED panel with rich, deep blacks and vibrant contrast, perfectly suited to mood-lit gaming dens or hybrid cinema-gaming spaces. Suddenly, display choice isn’t just a technical decision—it’s part of the interior design brief.

Connectivity is another major factor. Both devices support Wi-Fi 7, 2.5Gbps Ethernet, Thunderbolt 5 and HDMI outputs, enabling ultra-fast data transfer, multi-display setups and rock-solid online performance. These laptops are no longer just portable PCs—they’re powerful, flexible hubs capable of supporting whole-home gaming ecosystems. Installers who understand how to optimise and distribute these features throughout a smart home will stand out from the crowd.

As high-end gaming becomes more mainstream in premium homes, three key trends are emerging:

1. Connectivity-First Design – With the rise of cloud gaming platforms, huge game downloads and always-online titles, networking has become foundational. Professional installers who can guarantee fast, stable, and low-latency connections— from the router to the game space—will deliver a clearly superior user experience.

2. Room-Aware Display Choices – Matching display tech to its environment is now

essential. Bright, family-friendly living rooms need high-brightness Mini LED to cut through ambient light, while purpose-built gaming rooms with controlled lighting benefit from the richness and depth of OLED.

3. Versatility at the Core – Gaming systems today aren’t just for play. They’re used for streaming, content creation and even remote work. Laptops like the Helios range offer the power and flexibility to handle it all. In a smart home context, that means less clutter, more integration and an all-in-one solution that fits seamlessly into a connected lifestyle.

At Acer, we’re engineering systems that meet these expectations—but it’s the smart home and AV professionals who take it to the next level. Your knowledge of lighting, audio, ergonomics, acoustics and network design makes all the difference in transforming great hardware into truly next-level experiences.

As this market grows, it’s time to view gaming setups the same way we look at home cinemas: as premium, purpose-built environments that demand expertise, creativity and attention to detail. For installers, it’s not just an exciting new revenue stream—it’s a chance to lead in shaping the future of digital entertainment in the home.

ACOUSTIC OVERVIEW

EI spoke with the acoustic experts at GIK Acoustics to get some insight into two key areas we are covering this month: office/boardroom, home office and high-performance gaming and simulators.

The shift towards high-performance gaming and simulators feels like a natural evolution for GIK Acoustics, especially considering that many of the sound effects, music and dialogue featured in some of the world’s favourite games were likely recorded in studios treated with the company’s products.

GIK says that when designing a gaming room or simulator, the goal is twofold: to create a natural-sounding space where users can comfortably spend long periods, and to ensure accurate, high-fidelity sound reproduction.

David Shevyn, Managing Director at GIK Acoustics Europe, says, “These spaces share many characteristics with traditional twochannel listening rooms or home cinemas. One major advantage is that these spaces typically focus on a single seating position - the ‘sweet spot’ - allowing for more targeted optimisation.

“Proper room setup is foundational. The listening position should be symmetrical and ideally placed facing the short wall. Symmetry helps maintain balanced reflections, which directly influences the sound stage and imaging.”

David adds, “Precise speaker placement is critical. Front speakers should be positioned to avoid issues such as Speaker Boundary Interference Response (SBIR). SBIR occurs when sound waves from a speaker interact with nearby walls or surfaces and interfere with themselves, causing peaks and nulls at the listening position. Even minor adjustments of just a few centimetres can significantly improve clarity and coherence.”

In setups involving multiple speakers, such as surround sound or Atmos configurations, present in many games these days, managing early reflections becomes even more important.

David underlines, “Each tweeter introduces sound into the room and without proper acoustic treatment, these reflections can create a chaotic listening environment. Strategic placement of absorptive panels at primary reflection points can help maintain clarity and focus.

“And then there’s the bass - arguably the most challenging aspect of small room acoustics. Many common issues originate in the low-frequency range, which often build up and linger (long decay times) in untreated rooms.

This buildup can ‘muddy’ the entire frequency spectrum. Effective bass management, starting with bass trapping in corners and rear walls, reduces these decay times and prevents low-end frequencies from interfering with themselves.”

Finally, David emphasises that if you’re planning to build a dedicated gaming room, the best time to seek expert advice is at the earliest stages of the project. A well-thoughtout acoustic plan not only ensures superior sound quality but also streamlines the entire installation process.

OFFICE SPACE

Lukas Rimbach - Manager of Sales and Customer Service, GIK Acoustics, says, “Office environments present unique acoustic challenges that differ significantly from traditional audio-focused settings, such as music studios or recording rooms, which we deal with frequently at GIK Acoustics. In office spaces, the goal is not full-range sound reproduction, but rather the optimisation of speech intelligibility and the reduction of overall noise pollution.

“Effective acoustic treatment in workplaces is essential, as it directly impacts concentration, stress levels and overall productivity.”

Lukas explains that acoustic treatment in offices revolves around two main objectives: managing reverberation time and minimising sound transfer between workstations.

For this first issue, Lukas says, “Reverberation time refers to how long sound persists in a space after the source has stopped. It can be calculated based on room dimensions and surface materials or measured accurately by a qualified acoustician using specialised equipment. Excessive reverberation reduces speech clarity and contributes to a noisy environment.

“To reduce reverberation, sound-absorbing materials can be introduced in the form of wall or ceiling-mounted panels, acoustic artwork or other decorative absorptive elements. The specific design or placement is less important than the total surface area of absorption introduced to the space. An example of this is GIK Acoustics SpotPanels, a 5cm deep panel that comes in various shapes, which absorbs a wide enough frequency spectrum in most cases. “In very small rooms, where early reflections and buildup in the lower mids could become an issue, we tend to use the 10cm deep B4 panels, which offer absorption across a wider frequency range.”

For the second issue, Lukas explains, “Reducing the transmission of sound from one

workspace to another is vital, especially in openplan offices where conversations and phone calls can become intrusive.

“Limiting sound transfer between colleagues often requires more targeted solutions. These may include freestanding or desk-mounted partitions with sound-absorbing properties, as well as acoustic booths for phone calls or meetings - some equipped with doors, others open depending on the desired level of isolation. The choice of solution should reflect the specific needs and working habits of the team and the acoustic challenges present in the space. Investing in thoughtful acoustic design is a practical step toward creating healthier, more effective workspaces.”

Good sound is of course vital for serious gamers and acoustics is a big part of that

TECHNOLOGY DRIVING THE HYBRID WORK ERA

Snap One examines new opportunities for integrators across home and office spaces.

As the boundaries between home and office continue to blur, integrators are uniquely positioned to lead the charge in designing and deploying technology that enhances productivity, collaboration, security and wellbeing across both residential and commercial spaces.

At ADI | Snap One, we see opportunity in the evolving demands of hybrid workspaces, from smarter AV in corporate boardrooms to wellness-focused home offices, the future of integration is no longer just about functionality. It’s about delivering seamless, secure and human-centric experiences wherever work happens. As a business, we offer a true omnichannel shopping experience - from purchasing in-store, online, or through our mobile appcustomers can expect the same experience and level of service.

To meet the demand from organisations that are now investing in intelligent, integrated AV systems, integrators are prioritising all-inone conferencing systems that combine video, audio, content sharing and control in a single platform. Automated room controls for lighting, shades and temperature ensure comfort and professionalism on every call, while AI-powered cameras and microphones can track active speakers and suppress background noise, which is especially useful in large, open, or flexible

meeting environments. Our solutions across networking, power, and remote management, including Araknis, WattBox and OvrC, help integrators design and deliver what commercial environments need now.

In residential environments, it’s no longer about simply carving out a quiet corner to work, it’s about creating a purpose-built space that supports high-performance work, mental wellness and aesthetic harmony. Smart lighting from Control4 supports circadian rhythms, such as tunable white lighting that shifts throughout the day, and can help enhance focus and energy. While the new Control4 X4 user experience enables personalisation, ease of use, and improved navigation for end-users across smart living, including working from home. Now, integrators can offer customised packages that integrate seamlessly with broader smart home ecosystems, allowing end-users to control workspaces alongside lighting, security and entertainment systems.

Whether at home or the office, reliable and secure connectivity is essential, with people working across multiple environments sometimes within the same day. On the residential side, there’s strong demand for robust Wi-Fi networks with enterprise-grade reliability, segregated networks to separate work devices from family use, and managed

network solutions for remote diagnostics and maintenance. In commercial settings, cloudmanaged switches and access points provide centralised control and visibility. Secure video conferencing endpoints that comply with corporate IT policies, along with the integration of access control, surveillance, and environmental monitoring, helps protect both people and data.

In both commercial and residential projects, there’s rising demand for acoustic panels to minimise echo and distractions during calls, as well as sound-masking systems in offices to improve speech privacy and focus. As wellness becomes a bigger priority in workplace design, integrators are increasingly asked to deliver human-centric spaces that support clarity, calm and creativity.

For integrators, the new reality of hybrid work presents a powerful opportunity to rethink the spaces people rely on every day.

At ADI | Snap One, we’re proud to support integrators with the products, platforms, and expertise needed to succeed in this evolving landscape – from smart AV and networking to power, control, and security. By combining technical excellence with a deep understanding of end-user needs, integrators can lead the way in shaping a more connected, productive, and human-focused future.

HERE COMES THE BOOM!

EI speaks with recently added Aldous Systems brand, Boom Collaboration to discover what BYOM really means in 2025 — and why it’s not just for small rooms anymore.

Organisations around the world are on a continual journey to raise productivity and profits whilst maintaining a happy workforce. Technology has become the heartbeat for change with video conferencing at the epicentre.

That’s the view of Holli Hulett, co-founder of US-based video conferencing manufacturer, Boom Collaboration, where its intelligent cameras, video-bars, expandable audio and connectivity devices can be sourced from Aylesbury-based distributor, Aldous Systems.

In the beginning, video conferencing usually involved dedicated in-room facilities. The rise of hybrid working then triggered a Bring Your Own Meeting revolution where users connected via their own equipment such as a laptop, smart phone or tablet.

Holli says, “This was initially for smaller huddle rooms but now even larger environments are embracing the many benefits – as a clearer long-term picture begins to emerge. In short BYOM can pack a bigger punch and land a knock-out blow.

“With just one cable, users can connect any device and instantly access high-quality video, audio and screen sharing seamlessly, even in larger rooms where complexity often increases.

Holli adds, “Our range of meeting room ina-box kits simplify the process of choosing the right equipment for the right rooms, to optimise the overall user experience and take away any installation headaches, whichever route is taken.

“For us, the use of individual devices is now firmly taking over with plug-and-play simplicity, lower costs and a platform-agnostic approach being some of the main driving forces, even across bigger meeting locations.”

How are working practices changing as hybrid working policies become more established?

Holli argues, “Hybrid working is becoming more established, but it’s still a work in progress for many organisations. Some companies are struggling with trust – unsure if their teams are as productive outside the office. But the reality is that employees thrive when they’re trusted to manage their own time.

“At Boom, we value the flexibility of working from anywhere while also appreciating the energy of in-person collaboration. The key is finding a balance – offering both remote work options and opportunities for face-to-face interaction. Companies can have the best of both worlds, but they need clear, consistent policies to make it work.”

What are the challenges for businesses in enabling hybrid working?

Holli says, “The biggest challenge is maintaining connection and productivity across distributed teams. While in-person interactions build relationships, video calls must bridge that gap – offering natural, engaging communication regardless of location.

“But it’s not just about connecting people; it’s about ensuring ‘meeting equity.’ Those dialling in remotely should have the same experience as those in the room, from clear audio and video to an equal voice in discussions. This requires the right technology in the right spaces – whether that’s huddle rooms, hot desks, or larger meeting rooms.”

What technologies are in demand?

Fredrik Hörnkvist, the company’s other Co-Founder, explains, “We’re seeing a major shift toward Bring Your Own Meeting (BYOM) and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) setups. Simplicity is the driving force – one-cable connections that work with any device on any platform, transforming any space into a meeting room.

“Companies want flexibility. They are opting for scalable solutions like hot desks and huddle rooms rather than committing to expensive, fully integrated in-room systems. But even with this flexibility, they don’t want to lose advanced features – so technologies like AI-powered speaker tracking, auto-framing, and multiplatform compatibility are in high demand.”

How can resellers and MSPs build compelling hybrid working offerings?

Freddie says, “There’s still a knowledge gap in the market. Resellers and MSPs looking to expand into video conferencing must understand the evolving landscape – especially as hybrid work becomes the norm. Education is key. Those who can guide customers with confidence will have a significant advantage.”

Holli concludes, “Success starts with selecting reliable partners. By partnering with trusted brands like Boom, resellers and MSPs can offer solutions that are easy to deploy and maintain. It’s also important to identify “hero” products that fit the needs of small, medium, and large meeting spaces. These should be clearly defined, with a focus on flexibility and ease of use.

“Finally, remember that technology doesn’t become obsolete overnight. Desk phones and even fax machines still exist. Resellers should balance promoting modern solutions while understanding customer comfort zones. And with BYOM they can tick every box!”

Holli Hulett, and Freddie Hörnkvist, Co-Founders of Boom Collaboration, have been in the UK celebrating a new deal with Aldous Systems

REMOTE POSSIBILITIES

Bill Hensley, Marketing, RTI, explains the potential for improving work-based communications across the globe as well as across a desk.

I’m that guy. I work remotely. I live in a different country from most of my colleagues. But when meeting time rolls around, I feel well-connected. More on that later, but I’m not alone. Even with the back-to-office push from companies around the world, hybrid and remote work is here to stay. So how do we make it better?

The evolution of hybrid meeting environments represents one of the most significant technological shifts in workplace communication since the invention of the telephone. Today’s meeting spaces must seamlessly bridge physical and digital realms, creating experiences that feel natural regardless of where participants are located. This requires the ecosystem of integrated technologies working in harmony—from advanced camera systems that automatically frame speakers to intelligent audio processing that eliminates echo and background noise. The challenge isn’t just about having the right hardware; it’s about creating an intuitive user experience that removes friction from collaboration.

Modern hybrid meeting technology must also adapt to the diverse array of devices and platforms employees bring to work. With BYOD policies becoming the norm, meeting rooms need to accommodate everything from MacBooks to Surface tablets, from Android phones to iPads, all while maintaining consistent quality and reliability across different operating systems and conferencing platforms.

Ultimately, the new hybrid office and meeting world we live in means it’s more essential than ever to use technology that lets us host more efficient, engaging and productive meetings. The benefits of this technology are what we, as manufacturers and integrators, need to deliver to our clients. We need to give them the ability to:

• Elevate the quality of interactions and outcomes.

• Start meetings on time.

• Share wirelessly or wired from any device brought by a presenter.

• Experience an intuitive meeting room with limited surprises.

We all know that sometimes just getting the meeting started feels like an onerous task, so the new hybrid meeting needs to give clear instructions for all presenters, with Wi-Fi connectivity information for guests. For those of us participating remotely, it needs to work with the popular conferencing platforms like Zoom and Teams. And it needs to have multiple content sharing and connection types, including USB, particularly USB-C, as well as wireless options like AirPlay and Miracast.

We need to approach this category from two sides. First, we need to make sure to address the pain point of the remote meeting participant: How can we make every meeting feel like an in-person meeting if I’m not in the room? We’ve all been there, feeling like an

afterthought or a second-class citizen not in sync with the team in the room. Meanwhile those in the room sometimes feel lucky just to get the meeting started at all without calling in the IT department. Pain point number two.

At RTI, we aimed to address both these pain points with our Intelligent Meetings platform. I think we nailed it for one simple reason: My experience attending meetings remotely with the RTI management team improved 300% when we installed the system at headquarters. Not to bore you with details, but the AI-tracking camera in the video bar did what we promised. It helped me focus on who was talking. Likewise, the expansion microphone on the table did as promised. One of our team members, known for speaking in a reasonably quiet voice, was suddenly easy to hear.

Of course, because we’re RTI, combining meeting control with room control was a natural aspect to include, but because we believe in the ‘custom’ part of custom installation, we knew it would be important to enable control by other control systems as well (Chowmainsoft wrote a driver so Control4 dealers could leverage the Intelligent Meetings platform), and we knew the system would need to work standalone without any room control attached.

Hybrid means convenience. Convenience means custom. And custom is different for every customer. With the right set of tools, this should be a massive opportunity for integrators.

EFFECTIVE HYBRID WORK IS GROUNDED IN AV EQUALITY

Zach

Snook, Director of Product Management at Biamp, argues for workplace AV equality as the benchmark of success.

Hybrid work environments are defined as where work is completed, either in the office, at home, or somewhere else, such as a coffee shop or shared workspace, or on the go. And this form of work is now the most common scenario.

According to a survey last year from commercial real estate giant CBRE, a staggering 92% of surveyed clients use some version of a hybrid work model.

With this in mind, how can organisations make hybrid work, well, work? In the context of AV, audio takes precedence—it is the single most important element in a successful hybrid work meeting, according to a recent survey Biamp conducted of 2,400 participants across North America and Europe. Respondents were divided into two groups: non-managerial ‘end users’ of conferencing technology and those considered ‘decision makers’ who set the course for a given organisation across human resources, technology and operations management. Both groups relayed that great sound trumps video—video conferencing solutions need great sound to be effective above all.

HYBRID…BUT EQUAL

However, the survey also found that effective video is critical for organisations that must find and implement solutions that balance the needs of those in the office and those elsewhere.

In other words, they must consciously create meeting environments that are hybrid but equal. Here, video within a hybrid meeting is extremely important to create that feeling of equality between participants—ideally, everyone can be readily heard AND seen by all participants, no matter where they are located. AI and the mass adoption of unified communication (UC) tools are making such scenarios better all the time, but there is more work to be done.

The key to creating meeting equity is utilising a conferencing system that delivers an experience that is simple, fast and incredibly reliable. To get there, AV professionals must look at all types of users that engage in the meeting, physically and virtually. Hybrid meetings still require all the usual hardware— microphones, loudspeakers and video cameras — but they should be deployed as an all-in-one integrated AV solution that boasts intelligent features, including artificial intelligence (AI), that automate installation and deployment, and bring individuals in the conference room and those located elsewhere forward, both auditorily and visually.

More specifically, users in physical meeting rooms need microphone systems that actively track and mix conversations from around the room, so that no matter where someone sits in the conference room, they’ll sound as clear as if the microphone was right in front of them. This also requires video conferencing cameras

that automatically identify, focus and zoom in on participants when they speak, similar to how remote participants are presented as individual tiles within today’s most common UC software programs. Such a system should also include additional optimisation features, such as automation, natural language processing and predictive analysis, to create a truly equitable experience for all.

There are new tools entering the market that blend other key elements of the physical conference room experience with the digital realm, such as whiteboards. Biamp recently announced a specialised 4K content camera designed to make hybrid whiteboard collaboration truly equitable. Purpose-built for the Microsoft Teams Rooms Content Camera feature, the device captures and digitises whiteboard content, ensuring remote participants can see ideas clearly, even when presenters are actively writing. Such cameras also need flexible ceiling and wallmounting options designed to fit whiteboards of various sizes.

After all, when participants, no matter where they are located, feel front and centre within the meeting, they will become naturally more engaged and productive, as if they are in a room together, leading to happier employees who feel valued. In essence, investing in the necessary tools for AV equality will drive greater value back to the business over the long term.

HAS THE AV DISTRIBUTION MODEL GONE STALE?

Rob Greenlees, Sales Director at TVDB2B.com, looks at the changing landscape of AV distribution and how installers could benefit.

When was the last time your distributor picked up the phone just to see how things were going? Not to confirm an order or ask about a payment, but to actually check in, talk about your upcoming projects, ask how the pipeline looks, or even offer to help with margins or product availability?

For most AV integrators and installers, those kinds of calls are few and far between. And in a trade where timing, pricing and reliability make all the difference, that silence can come at a cost to your business.

The trouble is, many traditional suppliers treat the customer relationship as purely

transactional. You place an order, they send the stock and that’s it. There’s no real conversation, no collaborative thinking and certainly no proactive strategy. And yet, procurement in this industry shouldn’t just be a box-ticking exercise. It’s a critical function that directly impacts your profitability, your system configuration, your project efficiency and your ability to stay competitive. The right sourcing support can make or break a job. Margins are perhaps the most glossed-over aspect. Too often, integrators simply accept the pricing on their regular stock list. It’s the number on the page, they buy and move on. But margins are a game of incremental gains and the right procurement partner knows how to find them on your behalf.

Whether it’s advising on volume thresholds to trigger lower prices, consolidating orders to save on shipping, or suggesting alternative SKUs with better availability or margin, a good distributor should help you work smarter and more profitably. It’s not just about discounts, however, it’s about building the procurement process into your profit strategy.

Many integrators stick with the same distributor for years without questioning whether they’re still competitive or really value your business. That loyalty is understandable as relationships matter in this relatively small business sector, but loyalty shouldn’t mean complacency. When installers do take the time to price-check their regular orders elsewhere, it’s not unusual to find double-digit savings. That adds up fast, especially when it comes to core kit you are ordering for every job.

TIME-POOR

The problem is, nobody has time to go shopping around when installation deadlines, contractor management and clients themselves need to come first. That’s where the right distribution and supply partner should help: A company that will run pricing comparisons for you, without the legwork and flag the savings clearly. There are examples of this in lots of other multi-brand/ multi-product supply models because, ‘Every Little Helps’, for a great example!

There’s also the operational drag of juggling multiple suppliers. It’s one thing managing stock flow from two or three vendors, but quite another when you’re constantly switching between 10 or 12. Different invoice formats, varying shipping lead times and inconsistent returns processes all eat into time that could be better spent onsite or with clients. There is a significant advantage to consolidating your sourcing through a single route and using a partner who can give you access to the brands and products you need, at the best price, without the admin headache. It simplifies your workflow, reduces errors and gives you a clearer view of what’s going in and out of your business. Going back to suppliers simply picking up the phone to see how your business is doing has the advantage of someone on your side. Someone who gets your business model, understands your challenges and makes it their job to help. That might be by alerting you to upcoming stock issues on a key product, recommending a better-value alternative, or just checking in to ask, “Is there anything we could be doing better for you?”

It’s easy to accept things the way they are. You’ve got your logins, your usual orders, your routine. But the AV industry isn’t standing still, and margins are tighter than ever. Clients expect more for less. Lead times are under pressure. The old way of sourcing simply isn’t cutting it anymore.

If your distributor hasn’t called in months, if you’re watching your margin shrink, or if you’re spending too much time managing stock and not enough time delivering value, it might be time for a rethink.

At TVDB2B.com, we’ve built our business around solving those very problems for the trade over almost three decades. If you’re ready for a more intelligent, more engaged approach to sourcing, we’re ready to talk. Give us a call.

THE PHYSIOLOGY OF LIGHT

CEDIA considers the impact of light on the smart home world now and in the future.

Lighting has taken centre stage in the smart home world as designers and integrators realise the impact it has on human physiology. A CEDIA Podcast hosted by Walt Zerbe, Senior Director of Technology and Standards at CEDIA, brought together three lighting experts to discuss this transformative aspect of lighting: LaDonna Eriksen, Founding Partner at Construction Education Consortium; Andy Bull, Director of Design at Lighting Audio Video Projects; and Bruce Clarke, Founding Lighting Sherpa with Kaleidolight Lighting Design. Together, they explored the powerful ways light affects our bodies, its implications on home design and the future of lighting technology.

REDEFINING HUMANCENTRIC LIGHTING

Andy opened the discussion by sharing how the concept of ‘human-centric lighting’ has evolved over the past few years. While this term initially emphasised lighting comfort and visual needs, recent discoveries have shifted the focus toward biological effects. Andy shared insights from his experience with CEDIA, stressing the need for continuously updating lighting design courses to incorporate the latest research and advancements.

Andy explained that lighting in homes and workplaces typically stays between 100 and 500 lux, well below the natural outdoor light exposure that humans evolved with. This discrepancy is significant because light plays an important role in regulating bodily processes. He recounted a hospital project in Manchester where colour-tunable lighting simulated natural light cycles improved both staff wellbeing and patient recovery. “It’s about simulating a more natural light experience to benefit the environment in ways we’re only beginning to understand,” he explained.

THE HISTORICAL DISRUPTION OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHT

LaDonna took a step back to examine the broader evolutionary context, explaining that humans developed under the rhythms of sunlight for over 20 million years. “Suddenly, 150 years ago, we were thrown into artificial light.” This shift altered our exposure to natural light cycles, which has had adverse health consequences, and the reduced exposure to sunlight has been linked to increased rates of diabetes, immune disorders and even cancer.

Modern artificial lighting does not provide the spectrum of light that helps regulate our circadian rhythm, which is the internal clock that controls sleep and wake cycles. LaDonna explained that a specific wavelength, around 480 nanometres, is essential for this regulation. Artificial light can disrupt this process by blocking the production of melatonin, a hormone crucial for sleep. “Our homes and workplaces often lack natural daylight, and we’re suffering for it,” she noted. “We’re like grass that needs sunlight to thrive. Without it, we wither.”

LaDonna urged the industry to prioritise research to develop healthier lighting options. She highlighted that while aesthetically pleasing lighting is valued in design, the popular ‘pleasing look’ could be detrimental to health. “The information is out there, but it’s buried in scientific research. It’s time we bring it to the forefront,” she said.

A NEW APPROACH

Bruce took the discussion into the technical realm, emphasising the need for lighting systems that mimic the spectral qualities of natural light. He pointed out that industry standards have typically focused on luminous intensity, such as lux levels and colour temperature. However, Bruce suggested that focusing solely on brightness and colour is insufficient for designing lights that truly align with human biology.

“Just as sound has both low and high frequencies that shape what we hear, light has a spectrum that affects how we respond to it biologically,” Bruce explained. In lighting, this concept is known as spectral power distribution (SPD), which measures the intensity of each wavelength. By simulating the SPD of natural sunlight, lighting systems can better support human health.

The solution, Bruce suggested, lies in collaboration. Lighting designers, architects, and smart home professionals must work together to create holistic solutions that address both visual appeal and physiological needs.

A HEALTHIER LIGHTING FUTURE

The smart home industry has a clear opportunity to advance lighting technology that better aligns with human biology. As LaDonna pointed out, “Our bodies need natural light to thrive. Artificial light just doesn’t cut it.” While natural daylight is the ideal, areas without it can benefit from lighting that closely mimics the full daylight spectrum.

Andy, LaDonna and Bruce agreed that industry shifts are essential to lessen the impact of artificial lighting on health. They highlighted the importance of ongoing education and awareness, encouraging designers and homeowners to view lighting not only as an aesthetic choice but also as a factor in wellbeing. By leveraging lighting technology thoughtfully, the smart home industry can create spaces that support both function and health. With an informed approach and collaboration, lighting can serve as more than a functional element, contributing meaningfully to wellbeing in modern living spaces.

PURE LUXURY

Cinema Luxe gives EI readers the tour of its recently updated showroom in the heart of the Essex countryside.

For those as yet unfamiliar with Cinema Luxe, the company is a specialist design and build contractor, focused exclusively on luxury cinema rooms and spaces requiring a high level of audio integration. From media spaces to private studios and all types of immersive environments, the company can assist installers in taking their projects to the next level across the entire range of projects seen in the market today.

Darren Barker, Design Director, explains, “We do not sell AV equipment or technology; instead, we collaborate with integrators to deliver fully integrated turnkey solutions for our mutual clients. This allows both us and our

partners to focus on our respective areas of expertise, resulting in spaces that are perfectly aligned in design, performance and finish.”

The company is based in Essex and was founded in 2018. The team is led by Darren and Patrick Monahan, as Operations Director, alongside a talented group of designers, fabricators and installation operatives.

The company has had its own high-end dedicated design studio and showroom since 2020, located just one mile from the firm’s own custom fabrication workshop.

Darren underlines, “As a design-led business, it’s important that our showroom

evolves in line with the latest trends in fashion and interior design — providing inspiration for clients, architects, interior designers and potential AV integration partners. With this update, we saw an opportunity to showcase our latest finishes and collections and the new fit-out absolutely delivers on that goal.”

As the structural design of the space was already established, the aim for this update was to introduce new collections in a way that felt natural — not as if elements had simply been added. A key part of the refresh was highlighting Cinema Luxe’s bespoke fabrication capabilities.

The space is constantly evolving in line with key interior trends

Darren says, “For example, we incorporated our in-house manufactured patinated brass ‘Goldeneye’ wall lights, recessed within smoked walnut alcoves to evoke both space and luxury.

“This design language continues throughout the wider joinery and bar areas, complemented by marble accents and a bespoke woven fabric produced in Denmark. The overall result is an elegant, cohesive space.”

Darren adds, “We’ll soon be updating the FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment), and currently we are reviewing options with an eye on colour trends for 2026. The design studio itself was also updated to accommodate our ever-expanding materials library — now comprising over 6,000 materials, many of which are exclusive to us. Each is rigorously tested for acoustic performance, giving us a uniquely broad palette to meet even the most demanding briefs.”

Time is money of course, so the showroom refit was completed in an impressive six working days to minimise downtime, carefully scheduled around ongoing project commitments with integration partners. A strong endorsement of the company’s ability to plan and execute projects on time.

Darren reveals, “Because almost all of the products used are bespoke, we meticulously planned procurement, manufacturing and logistics to ensure everything was ready for the install window — no snags or delays. The project was executed with the same precision we bring to residential installations for our AV partners: extensive pre-planning and coordination to ensure a seamless and high-quality outcome.

“Every detail was considered in advance so that installation on-site could progress efficiently and to our usual high standards.”

As an intentionally brand-agnostic company, the technology integrated within the showroom is deliberately discreet. While most clients visiting the space are there to focus on design, it’s important that Cinema Luxe can also demonstrate a high-quality AV experience when needed. The core technology from the original 2020 installation remains in place, but as part of this refresh, the team upgraded and refined the acoustic treatments, aligning them with the company’s latest product selections and techniques.

Even in a project involving as much seamless integration as this one, Darren still has a standout aspect. He enthuses, “Without question, our favourite aspect is the bespoke finishes and artisan details that set our spaces apart — and this project really showcases that. These elements reflect the depth of our inhouse manufacturing skills and craftsmanship, combined with a strong design sensibility.”

Ultimately the primary benefit the company is expecting to gain from this most recent update is the confidence it gives Cinema Luxe’s integration partners to bring their clients to the

showroom as an extension of their own offering. Being able to experience the finishes first-hand makes the combined proposition of integrator and Cinema Luxe a very compelling one for end clients.

Darren concludes, “We actively encourage our partners to use our showroom as often as needed, and we are always delighted to welcome new partners from the CI industry, architecture, and interior design sectors.”

MASTERING SALES TECHNIQUES FOR INTEGRATORS

In the competitive smart home industry, success doesn’t just happen by chance. It’s the result of strategic selling techniques and a deep understanding of the products and services being offered. As integrators navigate this landscape, they must leverage every tool at their disposal to drive success and exceed client expectations.

KNOW YOUR PRODUCTS INSIDE AND OUT

The foundation of successful selling begins with a thorough understanding of the products being

installed. Integrators must invest time and effort into familiarising themselves with the features, benefits and specifications of each product which they install. This deep product knowledge not only instils confidence in clients but also enables integrators to effectively address client questions and concerns.

DEMO, DEMO, DEMO

You can’t beat a hands-on demo when you are trying to sell a system to a client. If you are going to buy a new car, you go out for a test drive. Or when you plan to buy a new bed, you lie on it

the art of sales.

to check that it is comfortable. It is no different with a smart home system – clients want an experience to truly understand what they will be getting if they agree to the solution that is being sold to them.

DbM offers a number of different ways to demonstrate: at any of our demonstration facilities in Huntingdon, Leicester or Kortrijk in Belgium - or at your client’s home with our mobile demonstration systems. “One of the most satisfying parts of my job is when I am hosting a demonstration and the first thing that I get is an expletive, or a rolling up of the sleeve to show goosebumps. For me, the best-selling techniques come from a place of enthusiasm”.

LISTEN. ALWAYS LISTEN

The old phrase of ‘two ears and one mouth, use them in that ratio’ is never truer. Give your clients time and space to talk. Don’t think you already know the answer before they finish talking - let them fully finish. When they have finished, don’t assume that it is now time for you to respond with an answer; this is the time to ask more questions so that you can really build a picture of what their vision might be. Taking time to understand what they are trying to achieve will make your presentation of the solution back to them appear so much better resolved, thought out and considered. Listening is essential and shows you want to completely understand what they desire.

BE UNAPOLOGETIC ABOUT THE COST

One of the most significant selling techniques for integrators is to be unapologetic about the price of the products that they offer. Integrators must recognise and adopt the mindset that the products they are selling are worth their price, because they are! The engineering behind these products backs up the purchase, with a level of design, quality, performance and engineering that is unmatched. While it may be tempting to seek more affordable alternatives, integrators must convey to clients that they get what they pay for and, in most cases, sacrificing price means sacrificing the overall experience.

No other premium service or product provider will be sorry that the products they sell come at a price. Hand-wringing Bugatti and Koenigsegg sales agents who are uncomfortable with how much their cars cost simply do not exist; be confident in the experience that you can deliver.

LEVERAGE SUPPLIER REPUTATION

Integrators should leverage the reputation that their suppliers have built over the years to strengthen their sales efforts. With a track record of delivering high-quality products and services, DbM has earned the trust and confidence of customers throughout the UK. Integrators can capitalise on this reputation to instil confidence in their clients and close sales more effectively.

Our team are very comfortable in supporting you with the sales process. Feel free to make use of the team when presenting or demonstrating to your clients; they have lots of experience and confidence to help you explain the benefits.

UTILISE DESIGN SERVICES

Design services are a valuable resource for integrators, providing a comprehensive resource that outlines layout, installation requirements and more. The documentation our Design & Specification Service produces serves as both a sales tool and a pre-installation

guide, streamlining the installation process and ensuring a seamless experience for both integrators and clients. By leveraging these tools, integrators can differentiate themselves in the market and deliver exceptional results to their clients.

SHOWCASE SUCCESS STORIES

Another powerful selling technique for integrators is to showcase success stories through case studies; something that DbM regularly does for our customers. These case studies serve as tangible evidence of the integrator’s expertise and the value they bring to their clients. Additionally, being featured in publications such as ‘The Pinnacle of Image and Sound,’ a dedicated DbM magazine, provides a visual presentation of success and further enhances the credibility and visibility of integrators.

Mastering sales techniques is essential for integrators looking to thrive in the smart home industry. By knowing and understanding their products, leveraging resources like DbM’s Design & Specification Service, and confidently communicating the value of their offerings, integrators can differentiate themselves from the competition and drive success in their business. With the right approach, integrators can build lasting relationships with their clients and achieve new heights of success in the industry.

ELIPSON EXPLORES EVERY FACET OF SPEAKER PERFORMANCE

The new ‘Prestige Facet II’ range enters a new era with an optimised version - the fruit of Elipson’s ongoing commitment to sonic excellence and manufacturing quality, says the maker.

While retaining the emblematic models that made the original series successful, this new version is distinguished by both aesthetic and technical improvements, designed for the most demanding audiophiles, declares Elipson.

The Prestige Facet II front panel now features a high-end satin finish, replacing the original gloss finish. This choice has been included to give the speakers a more modern, sober and smoother appearance for an evolution that is both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.

The three floor standing models now feature new decoupling feet with a more contemporary design, offering a visually lighter but mechanically reinforced base. These feet ensure better isolation of the cabinet from the floor, limiting vibration transmission and optimising low-frequency reproduction.

The rigidity of the cabinet has been improved by additional internal reinforcements, whose geometry has been redesigned to provide better mechanical support for the loudspeakers. This structural optimisation reduces parasitic resonances, improves bass

response and ensures a more linear response, particularly at high volumes.

The passive crossover has been redesigned, incorporating high-quality audiophile components (polypropylene film capacitors, metal-coated resistors, low DCR inductors). This overhaul of the crossover network results in better channel decoupling, a smoother frequency response and a more coherent, natural soundstage.

Each loudspeaker is now wired internally with 2.25 mm² OFC (Oxygen Free Copper), offering

optimum conductivity and loss-free signal transmission between crossover components and loudspeakers. This particular attention to cabling quality contributes to the overall fidelity and transparency of the listening experience.

The range consists of: Bookshelf - 6B, 8B; Floor standing - 14F, 24F and 34F; Centre Channels - 11C, 14C; Atmos - 6ATM; Surround - 7SR and the LCR - 14LCR.

KICKIN’ IT WITH KIMBER KABLE PBJ

Russ Andrews is reintroducing the original Kimber Kable analogue interconnect, PBJ, to its product portfolio, bringing the performance benefits and value of this cable to the UK’s audiophiles.

The cable being reintroduced is essentially the same as the original, but with one important difference: the purity of the copper.

No copper is totally free of oxygen as an impurity, but new manufacturing techniques have enabled many more impurities to be

removed and as such, the new PBJ features exceptionally pure copper.

Where it is really said to excel, though, is in its IACS figure – the true measure of copper’s conductivity – and for PBJ’s copper the figure is 102% IACS.

Carried over from the original PBJ is the use of braided VariStrand conductors. As different wire gauges favour different audio frequencies, Kimber employs seven individual strands of differing gauge for each conductor,

PBJ replaces the Kimber Tonik and Kimber Timbre interconnects in the Russ Andrews range

The VXF830 also includes integrated cable management within the arms, removing the unsightly tangle of cables that is often found behind mounted screens. Completing the sleek appearance, all the wall mounting hardware is neatly disguised by the decorative flip covers, which provide a finished look.

Sanus sanus.com

ensuring a more accurate representation of the overall frequency.

The three conductors are arranged in a woven tri-braid construction, which acts as an effective Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) filter, removing both airborne RFI and that which is conducted by the cable. The result is a much cleaner audio signal for enhanced presentation.

Covering each conductor is a fluorocarbon (Teflon) insulation or dielectric. This has the advantage of being applied to the cable at a higher pressure and therefore a lower temperature, which minimises any heat damage to the copper to maintain its purity.

The use of Teflon also helps with signal integrity thanks to its very low dielectric constant measurement. All dielectrics absorb some of the signal in the cable and then feed it back in later, which has the effect of slowing the signal down – this is known as the dielectric constant figure. The perfect figure of 1 is only achievable in a vacuum, so is not feasible in the real world, but Teflon has a very low dielectric constant.
