Our Primary School has three levels:
The Early Learning Center (ELC), where students in 3K and 4K learn in spaces designed to create a ‘whole child’ experience. With indoor and outdoor classrooms, students’ days are immersed in one of four languages; Chinese, French, German or Spanish.
Students then move to the Primary Learning Center (PLC), a bespoke building that opened in 2018. The PLC houses Lower Primary (5K - Grade 2) and Upper Primary (Grade 3 - 5). Here learning continues to nurture all aspects of student development, including immersive language learning.
Students enjoy the Library, the Sports and Activity Center, and many outdoor facilities.
The AIS Secondary School is for students in Grades 6 - 12
Secondary students spend their learning and recreation time in the historic AIS Main Building, the modern Arts, Science and Design building, the Sports and Activity Center, as well as the many outdoor spaces on campus, such as the Sports Field and Outdoor Pavilion.
A rigorous and engaging approach to all learning creates a unique Middle and Upper School student experience. All students continue their second or third language acquisition throughout Secondary School.
AIS Eagles graduate with both a world-class education and a strong sense of their own agency and impact.
At AIS, the IB is offered to every student. This internationally recognized curriculum is considered a global gold standard in education.
AIS offers the IB’s Primary Years (3K - Grade 5), Middle Years (Grades 6 - 10), and the Diploma and Career-related Programs (Grades 11 - 12).
Each builds upon the other, developing inquisitive, knowledgeable, and caring young people—who are motivated to succeed and make a difference in the world.
AIS is one of only a handful of schools in the United States that offers this full IB continuum.
We develop critical thinkers from a young age. Students become globally-minded, able to think conceptually to solve complex problems—and to do so collaboratively—with classmates from different cultures. It is an inquiry-based and concept-driven approach to learning.
We foster creative and reflective thinkers. MYP students are service-oriented doers and internationally-minded leaders, poised to make a positive impact in the world now and in the future. All MYP students participate in Service as Action, giving back to the community.
Students have an unparalleled depth and breadth of courses and self-managed learning. AIS students have a head-start when they reach college or university.
DP students give back to the community through Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). They study Theory of Knowledge, honing critical thinking skills. Through the DP Extended Essay requirement, students select topic of special interest to them and produce a 4,000 word essay.
The CP is an internationally recognized framework that incorporates the IB philosophy and rigor into a unique program, focused on a career-related educational pathway. The innovative CP curriculum develops future-ready students.
The AIS CP has unique features for its students, such as;
Personal & Professional Skills, Service Learning, a Reflective Project, and Language Development.
IB for every learner, at every stage.
AIS has a unique approach to language learning. Every student chooses one of four additional languages, taught in different ways, according to grade level and skill:
3K & 4K: Full immersion
5K - Grade 5: Partial immersion (30%)
Grades 6 - 10: Language Acquisition
Grades 11 & 12: Chinese B
3K & 4K: Full immersion
5K - Grade 5*: Dual immersion (50%)
Grades 6 - 10: Language Acquisition or Language & Literature
Grades 11 & 12: Language & Literature or French B
3K & 4K: Full immersion
5K - Grade 5*: Dual immersion (50%)
Grades 6 - 10: Language Acquisition or Language & Literature
Grades 11 & 12: Language & Literature, German B, or German ab initio
3K & 4K: Full immersion
5K - Grade 5*: Dual immersion (50%)
Grades 6 - 10: Language Acquisition or Language & Literature
Grades 11 & 12: Language & Literature, Spanish B, or Spanish ab initio
*Until December in Grade 1, no previous language experience is necessary. After that students require a sufficient skill level to manage the dual language curriculum. Each student is assessed individually. From 5K, Chinese is partial not dual immersion due to the added complexity of learning characters rather than using the Roman alphabet.
Primary School
Language Clubs
Language Clubs support student learning through activities such as crafts, art, or cuisine.
Heritage Language Program
The Heritage Language Program is open to students from 5K - Grade 5 and fosters home languages outside of our curriculum, currently Arabic, Dutch, Farsi, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish.
Secondary School
Supported Self-Taught Languages (SSST)
We promote the heritage of a student’s home language and through SSST they can pursue native languages beyond our curricular language. SSST students are guided by a faculty member and partnered with an outside tutor.
Bilingual Diploma
All AIS students graduate with skills to communicate in at least two languages, with many students reaching a level of skill that earns them a bilingual or even trilingual Diploma.
AISx is an innovative program, designed to provide flexible, hybrid academic programs for students who are pursuing sporting, other specialist professional routes, or for those who simply want to explore a flexible academic schedule.
This individualized educational program ensures students are able to pursue their passions in sports, arts, or other professional fields, without compromising their academics, or the holistic support provided by AIS.
AISx is available to Secondary School students, with IB courses, honors-level classes, dual enrollment, and other curricular formats offered.
Classes are taught either in person, through remote instruction, or asynchronously—based on a student’s individual needs.
AISx has unique partnerships with the Atlanta United Football Club Development Academy, and the Mouratoglou Academy Atlanta for tennis.
Many AISx students shuttle daily between the AIS Buckhead and Sandy Springs Campuses in order to take advantage of all of the school’s outdoor and sporting facilities.
We understand that your student’s well-being is the most important thing in the world.
Our counseling services will ensure that the academic, social, emotional, and personal needs of your child are met—so they can reach their highest potential. All of our counseling is tailored to the individual needs of every student.
Your student’s counselor is their advocate, helping them to be the most they can be. They work with parents, teachers, and outside resources to give every student the tools for positive growth and development.
The Learning Support Department is committed to helping each child become a successful, effective, and joyful learner. We create an inclusive educational environment that fosters self-awareness and confidence. We aim to enhance their learning opportunities and help them reach their full individual potential.
Our goal is to ensure that students’ English proficiency allows them to reach their highest academic potential. We work with students, parents, and teachers to identify each child’s needs and to tailor teaching to meet their English language skill level.
At AIS, students have the opportunity to explore a wide range of sports each season. Our Athletic Department is committed to developing wellrounded student-athletes by fostering a love for participation, competition, and personal growth. We place a strong emphasis on health, well-being, and teamwork—helping students become confident, team-oriented leaders who exemplify sportsmanship, humility, and integrity.
Our Jr. Eagles can explore a range of sports throughout the school year, with a focus on developing fundamental skills and gaining an in-depth understanding of each game.
Primary School students can enjoy basketball, golf, soccer, tennis, cheerleading, and volleyball.
Middle School athletics are about getting in the game, building confidence, and having fun while learning to compete.
Most sports are no-cut, and athletes get to represent our school in competitions. Our goal is to help students fall in love with sports.
Offerings include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swim, tennis, track & field, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball.
Grades 9–12 have the chance to compete at a high level while growing as athletes and leaders.
Team placement is based on skill and commitment, and our athletes proudly represent AIS in the Georgia High School Association, with many teams reaching state championship competition.
Basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swim and dive, tennis, track and field, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball are typically offered.
Arts play a critical role in developing students, as effective communicators, able to express creativity. Theatre, music, visual arts, and media & film classes at AIS emphasize innovation, learning the craft, process, and technique of an art form.
All students participate in the IB Visual Arts program, providing a way to explore the world through artistic expression. Students have the opportunity to display artwork throughout the school.
Our Department of Music serves all students from 3K to Grade 12. Through music classes, ensembles (chorus, orchestra, and band), and an extensive private lesson program, students create, participate, and reflect on music from many cultures.
Practical, hands-on instruction allows students to experience media production. Classes guide them to understand the power of media as a tool of expression and investigation.
Through their classes and the co-curricular theatre season, AIS students develop a passion for theatre. Their training helps them to take risks, solve problems, and have their voices heard.
Travel and AIS go hand in hand.
Primary students take trips every year. In Grade 5 they have a residential trip to either China, Costa Rica, Germany, or France.
Secondary students have Eagles Learning Experiences each school year, to destinations such as Florida, Utah, Germany, or Iceland. They can also travel in support of their classes and extracurriculars—to Peru for service projects for example.
By being reflective risk-takers, AIS students are perfectly poised to innovate.
Innovation is found throughout our curriculum and the teaching at AIS. We strive to inspire your student to shape their future for the better.
By encouraging them to pursue a wide range of activities both in and out of school, innovation happens. At AIS we ask students to push the boundaries of their thinking, in science, arts, language, and global understanding.
In Primary School, STEAM is transdisciplinary. Students inquire and investigate through interconnected thinking.
In Secondary School, STEAM is interdisciplinary, where students integrate subject knowledge and skills with real world issues.
We support student innovation through initiatives such as AIS Innovators, STEAM Lunch & Learn, Space Program, Summer Internships, and co-curricular programs.
We have dedicated Makerspaces in Primary and Secondary Schools.
Equipped with state-of-theart technology, students are encouraged to design, prototype, and iterate products.
Committed to maintaining small class sizes with 90 nationalities and 60 languages represented

Finding their own passions and building lifelong friendships.
A place where students have an exceptional range of options to choose from—to ensure their individual needs are met.
Our Eagles experience a fun-filled middle and high school—all in an inclusive, international community.
Secondary School has two levels—Middle and Upper, and both are housed in the same building.
Students follow the IB Middle Years Program. Their schedule is arranged over a two week cycle, during which they study 9 different classes. Some are options (electives), selected at the start of each Grade (such as computer science, additional languages, music ensembles, or extended math). All other classes are universal.
Students with a high language proficiency can take humanities classes taught in French, German, or Spanish. There are so many extracurricular activities available and students are encouraged to pursue their passions.
Athletics, theatre productions, and community service activities ensure there is something for everyone. At the end of Grade 8, students and families enjoy celebrations, including a formal awards evening.
During the first two grades of Upper School (9-10) students finish their IB Middle Years Program. In Grade 11 students continue with either the IB Diploma or Career-related Programs.
AIS graduates also receive their Georgia High School Diploma and STEM/STEAM endorsements are available. The IB Diploma can be attained in more than one language (a bilingual or trilingual diploma). The IBCP is also internationally recognized by colleges and universities.
Students Grades 9 - 11 are encouraged to participate in an internship over the summer, where they are matched with one of our many partners in industry, professions and commerce.
US students enjoy a wide range of Junior Varsity and Varsity sports teams as well as numerous groups and activities to join - Model United Nations, Robotics, Mock Trial, and Theatre - to name a few
All Secondary School students have one hour of break times each day. The regular school day starts at 8:20am and ends at 3:45pm. There is no-cost afterschool tutoring available as well as extended learning time options with both morning and afternoon study hall.
Meal plans and declining balance payments are available from the cafeteria for day students, who are also welcome to bring food from home.
No wonder we’ve been serving up aces! Over the last year, AIS has ushered in a new era of tennis excellence. We’ve seen the launch of MAA (Mouratoglou Academy Atlanta), located at the AIS Sandy Springs Campus, complete with four new hard courts.
Legendary coach Patrick Mouratoglou has played a pivotal role in shaping world champions including Serena Williams, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Coco Gauff. We are proud to partner with the very first Mouratoglou Academy in Georgia offering elite tennis coaching and camps.
Our flexible learning schedule, AISx, allows studentathletes, including our tennis players, to compete around the U.S. and beyond without compromising their academic schedule.
And proving our tennis year was a smash, AIS Middle and Varsity teams won both Regional and State championships!
At Atlanta International School, we constantly ask ourselves, “How do we best prepare your student for life beyond school?” The answer lies not only in the world renowned IB curriculum, but in the opportunities we offer outside the classroom.
In addition to the industry internships, students throughout Secondary School participate in activities, including Global and Experiential Learning, Service as Action (SA), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), Athletics, Arts, and more.
Secondary school students have clubs that include the following; Afterschool Music Lessons, Athletics, Model United Nations, MS/US Theatre
Production, InVenture, MS Math Competition Club, MS Coding Club, Robotics, Science Olympiad, AV Team
SA is a fundamental part of the Middle Years Program. All students in Grades 6 - 10 are involved by participating in projects that contribute to positive change (be that in school, the local area, or globally).
Projects are often initiated by students and connect to their classes.
Another unique way in which AIS fosters worldready leaders is through Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), an essential element of the IB Diploma Program. CAS extends learning beyond the classroom as students initiate and participate in experiences representing the three strands:
• Creativity: Arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
• Activity: Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
• Service: Collaborative and engagement with the community in response to an authentic need.
For each CAS experience, students learn to initiate and plan, implement, take action, and adapt as necessary.

PO Clubs include: Amigos Hispanic Culture Club, Asian Culture Club, Ensemble French Culture Club, Deutsch Connection German Culture Club, and Harambee Culture Club for the Black and/or African-American, African or Caribbean families.
Get involved with groups such as the Family Ambassadors, Arts Boosters, Learning Differentiation, Parent Programs, STEAM, Team Appreciation, and Worldfest.
Around the world, AIS alumni are carrying out the school’s mission as courageous leaders shaping their world for the better.
Over 2000 former students are now part of our alumni network, since our first graduation in 1992. Alumni are important to school life and foster the diverse AIS community.
The AIS Alumni Board advances the mission of AIS, creating opportunities to positively impact students.
Supporting the AIS Annual Fund, The Eagles Fund is the single most important way you can support AIS each year. Making a contribution, that’s right for your family, truly makes a difference.
