In a kitchen by Morgan Creek, a deep burgundy color palette establishes a bold and elegant tone while staying on the front edge of today’s trends. “We started with two main elements: the Rosa Levanto stone and the leather panels,” says Ryan DeCesaro, the company’s president. “Both give an elevated and luxurious look.”

Infusing a touch of whimsy, the countertop’s tulip edge proves little details can have a big impact. To soften the kitchen’s dramatic hues, the cabinetry corners feature a stained white oak radius detail—the curve mirrored in the stone from Stone Showcase, fabricated by A Touch of Stone, Inc.

Fluted stone on the front of the sink adds subtle dimension. “We were inspired by the shape of a crystal glass and mimicked that detail in the apron front itself,” says DeCesaro.

The listening nook features reeded white oak cabinetry and dedicated spots for albums, stereo equipment, and artwork. “This space was inspired by an article I read in The Wall Street Journal about big rooms turning into audio rooms,” says Dove Studio Kitchen & Bath owner and president Paul Castell.

The bar’s multifunctional design allows homeowners to showcase glassware and artwork. “We went with a classic design: walnut upper cabinets, glass-front shelves, and navy blue bases,” says Lucy Castell. In collaboration with Richelieu, integrated lighting with motion sensors in the drawers are an additional touch of luxury.

“The inspiration came from my desire to blend modern style with the craftsmanship of Italian cabinets,” says interior designer Rasha Francis, president of Raffiné Design Studio and MR Italia.

Handmade glass bowls give the pair of sinks a feminine touch, and a shapely backsplash from MSI adds depth. “I wanted to show that any room in the home can be made custom and high-end,” says Francis.

Daring Detail

A wood covering with integrated lights adds surprise to the sophisticated bathroom, while a sleek glass closet doubles as a privacy partition and display for clothes, jewelry, and shoes.

IN COLOR

From Hydro Systems, a sunny bathtub is the perfect morning wake-up or after-work reviver. “Everything is custom, from the shape to the colors to the paint,” says Francis of the tub. A simple cast-iron faucet is offset by a large-scale art piece made with Venetian glass by artist Abier Alkhour.

Chattahoochee Hills’ Hill Country Overlay District encourages mixed-use, multihousing types (including village and hamlet formats) while preserving farmland and open space. Several master‑plan nodes are in concept or early planning stages, aiming to offer new housing, small retail, and walkable communities in the coming years.

Sardis An equestrian-inspired community featuring 17 (future) homes on more than 430 acres. The Sardis Barn is the community center and home to a world-class Arabian horse breeding program. Even though well-known among global thought leaders in land planning, Chattahoochee Hills still somewhat flies under the radar, but is quietly booming with growth most evident in the continued evolution of Serenbe. In early 2025, the community announced a transformative $1.7 billion expansion plan, adding more than 1,000 new homes, a boutique hotel, and new commercial and cultural hubs. A major piece of this expansion is the Agingin-Place campus, projected to break ground in the first quarter of 2026 with a mid-2028 opening. This new facility will offer integrated, community-based healthcare that supports residents through every stage of life. In the meantime, Piedmont Healthcare has already opened a practice at One Mado, a health and wellness building at Serenbe. Says Serenbe founder Steve Nygren, “We continue to attract small-scale retail and hospitality such as a couple from Boulder, Colorado, who moved to Serenbe to launch Allchemy, a first-of-itskind nontoxic pharmacy. With pioneering entrepreneurs like this, Serenbe and the broader Chattahoochee Hills region are increasingly recognized as a wellness valley of the U.S.” Education options continue to expand, with two new Serenbe hamlets extending into neighboring Coweta County. Residents now benefit from access to two public school systems, the Chattahoochee Hills Charter School, Terra School at Serenbe, and bus service to both Woodward Academy and The Heritage School.

Farmstead at Piney Woods A 40-acre farm site with only five homesites, all sharing the ultimate in bucolic amenities: a vegetable garden, chicken coop, fishing pond, incredible vistas, and fabulous Bunkhouse designed by Pineapple House Interior Design that can accommodate residents’ overnight guests. WHEN IT COMES to design, Atlantans love tradition—but we love forward-thinking too. There have been times in our past when cutting-edge design helped to transform our city into the metropolis it has become. I’m thinking specifically of the late John Portman and his architectural contributions. His 1967 design of the Downtown Hyatt Regency was unlike anything we had ever seen before, and I don’t just mean we Atlantans. Its atrium lobby concept was considered ahead of the curve by most Americans at that time. Back in the late ’60s, my friends and I would venture there as often as we could just to soak in the modernity of it all. There was also the house he built on Sea Island, Entelechy II. To be honest, a lot of us were initially confounded by its contemporary design, but eventually, we learned to love it. That’s what often happens with forward-thinking design. It can sometimes be so trailblazing that it takes time for many of us to catch up. So, what’s ahead of us designwise?

I think it’s safe to say that somehow, in some way, artificial intelligence will be involved. But let’s put that aside for the time being, because I’d much rather think of less daunting things. It might seem counterintuitive, but I predict that in the future, antiques and vintage furnishings will play even bigger roles in design than they do today, especially as we strive to minimize our carbon footprints. At the same time, newly crafted furniture made of recycled plastics is also going to become more commonplace. (I suspect it might even start cropping up in traditionally furnished homes.) As far as architecture goes, 1072 West Peachtree, which will become Atlanta’s tallest residential building, is currently under construction. When it’s completed next year, I bet it will help to elevate our city’s stature the way the Hyatt Regency did all those years ago.

Obviously, I have no crystal ball to see what’s on tap for design, but I feel it’s safe to say that wherever the future takes us, it will surely be an interesting ride.

Located in a historic 1927 building, now Otto’s Apartment Hotel, new wine bar and restaurant Madeira Park is a delightful gathering spot that feels woven into the fabric of the neighborhood.

Led by James Beard Award-winning chef Steven Satterfield and Neal McCarthy of Miller Union alongside Tim Willard of Dive Wine pop-ups, the talented trio pours more than just wine—they’re pouring new life and community into the city.

Although separately musing the idea of opening a wine bar in the future, the conception of Madeira Park was serendipitous. “I was actually tasting wine at Miller Union one day with Neal, and I told him I was going to open a wine bar. Turns out Neal and Steven were planning on it too,” says Willard. “We had coffee the next week and the rest is history.”

Coined for the original name of the neighborhood it resides in, the wine bar holds double meaning. “Madeira is also a fortified wine from Portugal, which gave it another layer of

meaning for us,” adds Satterfield. “It’s a nod to both place and wine.”

Already a neighborhood favorite, locals line the counter like the wine bottles on the shelf—the only question is which wine to begin your evening with. “Start by talking to us,” advises McCarthy.

“Our team is really knowledgeable about the wines.” The collection is thoughtfully curated and organized to make trying new notes easy.

Of the wine list, Willard, along with sommelier Jade Palmer, wanted to create something that “doesn’t have a dud.” From red to white, classics and newcomers, the all-encompassing collection is exciting for novices and connoisseurs alike.

Pro tip: Order half pours to ensure you have a chance to try plenty, including custom flights. And those looking for a departure from vintage can browse the creative cocktail list developed by bar manager Philip Weltner.

A LETTER FROM

Serenbe’s Founder When the first residents moved to Serenbe 20 years ago, our full community plan was still just lines on paper, with only a handful of homes built. Yet I could already envision what it would become—a place where winding country roads would connect people to nature and each other, where clusters of porched homes would nestle into preserved forests, and where the land itself would be both honored and integrated into daily life.

That vision was shaped, in part, by my years in hospitality—bringing people together through food and beauty while running the Pleasant Peasant Group. That same philosophy led us to open our country home to guests, offer dinners that became fried chicken lunches, and eventually grow into The Inn and The Farmhouse restaurant.

Hospitality became the heartbeat of this place, grounding our efforts in warmth, connection, and care.

Long before the word “agrihood” existed, we built Serenbe around an organic farm because we believed in farmers and the power of local food systems. Today, our 25-acre farm remains central to the community, joined by edible landscaping woven throughout our neighborhoods—apple trees along sidewalks, blueberries at crosswalks, herbs and wildflowers around every corner. This integration of agriculture into daily life has helped lead a movement that now stretches far beyond our own borders.

Over the past two decades, we’ve become known for much more than beautiful homes and fresh food. Our walkable streets, front porches, and shared green spaces have fostered countless connections—neighbors becoming friends, visitors becoming residents. Weekly farmers markets, outdoor performances, community events, and everyday moments of gathering are the heartbeat of Serenbe life.

Underneath the beauty of Serenbe lies something deeper: a biophilic model for living that builds in partnership with nature, not against it. We’ve shown that thoughtful development can protect the environment, foster health and well-being, and create places where people feel a true sense of belonging. Serenbe has become a blueprint for others around the world—proof that development rooted in sustainability, agriculture, and community is not only possible but powerful.

As we look ahead in our 20th year, I feel immense pride in how far we’ve come—and even more excitement for what’s next. We’re continuing to push boundaries: exploring new models for housing, expanding education initiatives, deepening our commitment to the land, and finding new ways to strengthen our bonds as a community.

Every time I walk the trails and see children playing, neighbors chatting, or someone harvesting vegetables from the farm, I’m reminded that Serenbe is not just a development. It’s a living, breathing example of what’s possible when we prioritize connection—to nature, to food, to one another.

To be touched by Serenbe is, indeed, to be changed. But it’s the people—residents, visitors, and those who believe in this vision—who make Serenbe a true community.

The Arts at Serenbe Serenbe is a community that passionately explores, embraces and expands the connections between nature, culture, and the art of living. Multiple arts programs at Serenbe have been built out of intention and have grown organically over the years. THE ART FARM is our non-profit platform and place for cultivating artists and the arts through music, film, dance and theatre programming, artist residencies, workshops, and public art projects, and it has been a literal platform for dinners, performances, and artist celebrations.

One aspect of the Art Farm are artist residency cottages designed by the award-winning Rural Studio architecture program. These cottages promote the creative process by providing artists from all backgrounds uninterrupted time and space, and a welcoming community in which to create. Hundreds of artists have stayed and been supported through residencies over the years.

You’ll also find art in the meadows of Serenbe where ballets and plays have been performed, films are shown, and the Atlanta Symphony honored us during the pandemic with a safely distanced two nights of magical performances. Serenbe provides a forum for dialogue, cultural presentations, workshops, and seminars for residents, neighbors, and visitors to interact with cultural and environmental thought leaders and eminent scholars.

ABOUT THE BENEFICIARY

Art Farm Decorative Arts Fellowship The DECORATIVE ARTS FELLOWSHIP invites an artist in their early-to-mid career to feature their work in the Serenbe Designer Showhouse. The artist will make objects for the interiors of buildings and/or interior design—including textiles, furniture, lighting, ceramics, metalware, and fine arts—and be chosen in partnership with the editorial staff of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine and Serenbe.

The 2025 recipient of the Decorative Arts Fellowship is LAURA DEEMS, who will be in residency with the Art Farm in August 2025. Laura’s contemporary abstract works will be on view and available for sale at the Showhouse and a pop-up gallery show, with a percentage of sales benefiting the Art Farm. You can reserve and purchase pieces this summer and during Showhouse tours.

Laura Deems is a contemporary abstract artist trained in textile design at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. Her work draws on her foundation in fabric dyeing, weaving, and screen printing—resulting in expressive, gestural compositions that blur the line between pattern and painting.

Now based in Birmingham, Alabama, where she lives with her husband, daughter, and dog, Laura’s art has been featured in luxury design magazines, high-profile showhouses, and gallery exhibitions across the East Coast. Prior to settling in Birmingham, she lived and worked in Charleston and Atlanta.

Living Room Boston- and Atlanta-based designer Honey Collins returned to her Atlanta roots as honorary chair of this year’s showhouse.

The large, light-filled living room with Venetian plaster walls created a luminous backdrop for her curated mix of one-of-akind upholstered pieces, antiques, and contemporary art. “All of what I used has personal significance to me, reflecting my belief that a room should be filled with things you love and that tell your story,” she says. Finding inspiration in the home’s English style, she chose a palette of soft greens, browns, and taupes and 92

layered traditional chintz fabrics with rich textures and modern silhouettes. She pulled in upholstered furniture from her own Honey House line and customized a pair of antique chairs from her mother—the legendary late Atlanta decorator Susan Wilcox— reupholstering them in Donghia tiger velvet, to create multiple seating vignettes in the expansive space. Says Collins, “The result is a rustically elegant room—inviting and full of character— that embodies warmth and comfort while remaining distinctly refined.” —Jennifer Bradley Franklin

A welcoming space richly endowed with oak wall paneling and wood flooring offset by a marble border, the foyer pays tribute to the natural world.

“I wanted the interior to feel like an extension of the home’s setting and lush landscape,” says its designer, Evan Millárd. “The room is a celebration of natural beauty, translated through a luminous and collected lens.”

Botanical accents are a notable feature of the space, highlighted by a budding branch-like brass chandelier that casts a soft glow over the room while also enhancing the luminosity of the Venetian plaster ceiling above it. Other nods to nature include white porcelain floral sculptures, a pair of cast-iron cranes perched on an oak table, and an archival pigment print that portrays a butterfly in an imagined setting.

The recent England travels of designer Melanie Turner and the Cotswolds manor-reminiscent architecture of the home provided ample inspiration for this dining room that Turner describes as “English grandma chic with a fresh, unexpected twist.” She commissioned a custom wallcovering—scaled larger to fit the room’s generous proportions—to set the scene and embraced a color palette that leaned heavily into what she terms “Gucci pistachio” and burgundy, a vibrant and unexpected combination. A duo of rugs—an Oushak layered over sisal—and dramatic pistachiohued draperies add texture, while a round, custom lacquered dining table surrounded by vintage Sheraton dining chairs dial up the drama. An oversize Maitland Smith snail from Turner’s personal collection, surrounded by moss and botanical elements, lends an Alicein-Wonderland quality to the room.

Mudroom

In designing the mudroom, Liz Godwin wanted to create a back-of-the-house area that was both functional and stylish.

Inspired by the Whimsy Woods wallpaper from Columbusbased artist Teil Duncan Henley, with its blue and green palette and charming collection of animals, Godwin says, “It set the tone for a space that feels fresh, inviting, and full of character.” The designer, who recently relocated from Atlanta to Columbus, was motivated to find other local creatives to flesh out the room. Potter Haley Calhoun created a custom glaze and pattern for a wall display of pottery, and the duo of sisters behind Varnish Collection added wicker baskets.

Intended for both work and quiet reflection, the office is a sanctuary-like space that its designer, Calvin Watt, describes as “maximalist in spirit and intentional in curation.” A feeling of serenity is fostered by neutral-colored anchor pieces, including a built-in desk painted in Farrow & Ball’s classic shade Mouse’s Back, a coordinating channeled-leather desk chair, and a rug whose light hues harmonize with the room’s cream walls. For some visual rhythm and glow, Watt introduced gold and bronzetoned accents in the form of an abstract-patterned window shade and curtains, towering brass desk lamps, an antique bar cart, and a collection of gold picture frames. Stacks of leather-bound books speak to the room’s transportive atmosphere. “Literature invites us to escape, reflect, and dream,” says Watt. “I wanted to translate that emotional richness into a space that feels as layered and intentional as a well-written novel.” —Jennifer Boles 99

Back Hall & Powder Room The English Cotswolds architecture inspired the back hall and powder room by designer Pamela Williams. “The arches, soft curves, and grand sense of warm formality gave me the idea to create areas of pause and presence,” says Williams. “I envisioned creating a journey that seamlessly revered the gilded grandeur and timeless elegance of French Baroque decor with a modern undertone to invite casual comfort.” The result is a space that radiates with refinement. In the hallway, the arched ceiling and openings, both finished in Venetian plaster, create a sculptural effect. A space that its decorator, Mary Coley Stevens, calls “European cafe meets Southern city ease,” the kitchen and scullery brim with striking details. The custom wall cabinetry and islands designed by Kingdom Woodworks, which were inspired by old apothecary cabinets with their many drawers, are wood-crafted masterpieces enriched by custom brass hardware and Rosso Viola marble. “I was drawn to the home’s unique architecture, especially the detailing in the plaster beams,” says Marcel Olariu.

“I wanted the kitchen and scullery to feel like a natural extension of that style, which inspired the sculptural shelving above the coffee bar.” Playing off the room’s richly toned finishes, Stevens introduced velvet fabrics in complementary colors, such as the moss green banquette and patterned barrel-back chairs which surround a contemporary dining table. “I wanted the kitchen to carry a stylish edge, which came through in the luxe velvet upholstery,” says Stevens. Echoing the cooktop’s curved marble backsplash, a dramatically sweeping sheer curtain was inspired by European cafes. Although styled similarly to the kitchen, the adjacent scullery stands apart with its checkerboard floor and beveled marble tile that embellishes walls and the ceiling. —Jennifer Boles 103

The outdoor terrace is a true extension of the home’s lavish interiors, where designer Liz Williams pulled in the surrounding lush landscape, using green as her inspirational base color.

“The starting point for the space was the Carolina Irving Palmetto fabric,” she says. “Its beautiful green tones and bronze background felt like the perfect foundation for an outdoor setting.” Next came a space layered with both aforementioned colors as well as splashes of blue to create a cohesive palette that feels, in Williams’ words, both timeless and lively. The designer chose to incorporate new and vintage furniture to create a sense of character and nostalgia. “The result is a perfect mix of freshness and familiarity, creating an outdoor room that feels as curated and comfortable as any indoor living space,” she says. Creative details give the space pizzazz. For example, Williams incorporated a green tape trim down the curved arms of the swivel chairs. “It’s a subtle design moment that draws attention to their sculptural shape and adds a thoughtful, tailored finish,” she says. —Nicole Letts 106

Upon entering the primary bedroom by designer Jared Hughes, the towering tassel-trimmed drapery immediately draws your eyes up. And while the drapery allure is breathtaking, the real surprise rests in the room’s ceiling. Designed by Source, it’s reminiscent of the plaster work in grand manor homes of the English countryside, and Hughes seamlessly selected complementary pieces. The wallpaper, for example, is reminiscent of the one found in Lady Sybil’s bedroom in Downton Abbey. “She had a beautiful, slightly geometric wallpaper in shades of camel and sand paired with a chintz drapery in a similar palette. I found it so fresh and inviting, different from my usual taste, and like a room I would love to be in,” says Hughes. Hence his choice of the chintz fabric for the drapery paired with bed hangings inspired by ones done by The Land Gardeners at their home, Wardington Manor, and their chateau in Normandy. “They feel very Italian in shape, and the softness breaks up the geometric pattern in the bamboo paper,” he says. In the rest of the space, Hughes played with lighter, more neutral tones, choosing to use color for more prevalent statements, such as the massive buffet deux corps with the original marble paper-lined interior. —Nicole Letts 108

Far from being simply utilitarian, the home’s primary bathroom was an opportunity for an extra touch of luxury. “This bathroom was designed for someone who appreciates the beauty in subtlety—someone who starts their day with intention and ends it in restoration,” says Source co-founder and creative director Cydney Mitchell. The freestanding, glass-clad shower with tile pony walls is a showstopper. “We treated the shower like a freestanding jewel box. It anchors the space while still feeling open and elegant,” explains Mitchell. For the creative and functional centerpiece, Source partnered with Waterworks to adapt the exposed shower set to mount directly onto the glass for a custom application. Plus, Kingdom Woodworks installed custom cabinetry throughout, including a functional and stylish built-in vanity tucked behind the shower, designed in collaboration with Source. The light-filled space—boasting expansive windows framed by sapphire-hued draperies—balances classic European influences (think Venetian plaster, warm wood tones, and natural stone) with modern-day comfort and function, thanks to heated floors and a thoughtful layout. Primary Closets

Designer Marie Cloud of Indigo Pruitt Design Studio approached the primary closets as though they were more than simply chic storage. “My vision was to transform these often-overlooked spaces into destinations of their own—boutique-style environments that reflect individuality, lifestyle, and daily rituals,” she says. Her goal was for each closet to feel like a seamless extension of the person who uses it, but particularly grounded in sophistication and function. Designing each space with its own point of view, Cloud layered “her closet” with soft curves and expressive textiles while “his closet” is more tailored with understated polish. Using fabrics and wallpaper created by the designer herself from her partnership with Spoonflower, Cloud built floor-to-ceiling texture.

“I love redefining what luxury looks like, especially in spaces that are often treated as afterthoughts,” she says. “These spaces gave me the freedom to express narrative and intention in a compact footprint.” Fun, unexpected accents—such as the oversize ottoman in one closet and a bar cart and stepladder in another—introduce playful yet intentional moments of livable luxury. Cabinetry by Kingdom Woodworks was built to be beautiful and functional. Upper Lounge

Inspired by the Art Deco-style parlors of early 20thcentury estates, Michael Habachy tailored the upstairs lounge for sophisticated socializing. “I wanted to create a room that felt nostalgic and would transport you to an era when rooms were a bit more formal and were designed for social gatherings and conversation.”

Attired primarily in oxblood, rust, and blue hues, the room draws attention with its gingham-patterned rug and furnishings made of marble, particularly a Claret Dolomite console table and a Calacatta Viola marble lamp. Seating that facilitates conversation, such as a velvet-covered, 1920s-inspired slipper chair and a pair of curvy chairs clad in bouclé, give off Art Deco vibes.

Another inspiration was Savile Row, which prompted Habachy to incorporate fabrics reminiscent of classic menswear, including worsted wool sateen used for window treatments. The room’s deep blue walls spotlight a curated collection of art, including a large felted-wool piece depicting stylized trees. —Jennifer Boles

Laundry Room

Designer Ashley Miller hoped that guests would feel a sense of peace when they entered her serene second-floor laundry room. Inspired by the freshness of nature and the whimsy of classic English interiors, she created an alluring, multiuse environment rooted in an earthy palette of organic colors. “The space is designed to feel open to creative use—more of a garden studio than just a laundry room,” says the Atlanta-based designer. The soft hue of the pale sage green wall tile is subtly echoed in the piping on the custom cabinetry. Miller covered the ceiling with softly textured striped wallpaper to draw the eye upwards. Roman shades and ottomans are clad in happy floral prints, and antique pottery and botanical artwork reinforce the textured, soulful theme. Says Miller, “This room is a love letter to the idea that even the most functional spaces in a home deserve beauty and intentionality.”

The home’s English-inspired design led Carolyn Kendall of Alcott Interiors to think about a suite for the daughter of a homeowner. For Kendall, Patrick Pietropoli’s portrait of a young woman, which hangs proudly above a brass-andglass console, embodies the room’s would-be resident. “The design has a graceful balance of femininity and tradition, with a delicate fusion of vintage charm and contemporary beauty,” says the designer. She incorporated pieces sourced from Europe, including the game table, bedside chests, and 118

chinoiserie triptych art panels, while a four-poster bed and multiple seating vignettes add comfort and style. Guest Bedroom & Bathroom With its floral chintz fabrics and potted porcelain foxgloves, Ellie Christopher’s guest bedroom evokes an English setting. “I wanted the bedroom to have that cozy warmth you think of with the Cotswolds,” she says. Blue-and-white geometric-patterned wallpaper and coordinating window and bed curtains blanket the room in subtle pattern. A mix of antiques and modern pieces offers further charm, including an 18th-century Swedish commode, wicker sofa, rattan accents, and vintage scroll-armed

chairs that are covered in watercolor-like fabric. To “make the room sing,” Christopher introduced a few green and citruscolored accents, like a pair of ceramic jars and a colorful abstract painting. In the adjoining bathroom, a patterned marble floor inspired the brown color story for the room’s other furnishings, particularly the chocolate grasscloth wallcovering. Overlooking the home’s pool and garden, the guest bedroom was designed in accordance with its delightful outdoor views. “Every element, from the placement of the bed to the selection of drapery, was chosen to frame and honor the view,” says Imani James. Watercolorpatterned drapery, nature-inspired artwork, a gilt sunburst mirror, and a gold- and silver-leaf chandelier that resembles bird-of-paradise forge a strong connection to the outdoor landscape. So too do the soft aqua, celadon, and peach hues that accent the space, particularly the watery blue velvets selected for the upholstered bed and its companion bench.

Ivory-colored walls, a soothing rug, and furniture with cream and taupe-colored finishes cultivate a peaceful environment. The adjacent bathroom, finished in ethereal shades of white, is equally serene. A scalloped wall served as an instant statement in the guest bedroom designed by Janie Wilburn. “That scallop—designed by Source to give the smallest bedroom with a soffit visual gravitas—demanded emphasis,” she says. Taking cues from the feminine lines and accentuating that cutout detail, Wilburn chose a chinoiserie grasscloth wallcovering, complete with vines that almost protrude from the facade. “An installer broke it over the scallop detail; it just felt like it was always there and truly meant for the space,” she says. The bed is neatly tucked under the wall detail, creating a cozy canopy. Wilburn says the room is a departure from her usual clean and edited style. “It was so fun for me to step out of my self-imposed constraints. I leaned into what the

room was telling me it needed. I love pleats and ruffles, flowers and birds, pink and green, and this room let me embrace all that, but I kept it tailored and clean with every detail having a purpose and relationship so that it would be sophisticated and strong.” The secretary, for example, is handsome and neat but still imparts the romance of the space. The Jack-and-Jill bathroom continues Wilburn’s enchanting design. What might have been interpreted as a children’s sleeping quarters was instead imagined by designer Alexandre Fleuren as a communal resting place for partied-out adults. “When I was asked to design the bunkroom, I considered some of my favorite Agatha Christie mysteries. What would it be like to be a houseguest in an Agatha Christie manor?” says Fleuren.

Spinning the typical bunkroom on its head, Fleuren punctuated the setting’s moody blues with shades of peach and tangerine, notably seen in the coverlets designed specifically for the beds.

“I wanted the room to feel like it was filled with treasures from travels abroad. Although the coverlets look like luxurious silk, they are completely washable. I enjoy lovely things, but I am eternally practical,” she says. John Selby prints in oversize gilt frames and porthole bunk windows emphasize the imaginative far-off setting. “It was a lot of fun, if just for a little while, to create a space worthy of an Agatha Christie setting for her complex characters.” —Nicole Letts

Upstairs Hallway

Unlike many passageways whose design has been ignored, this upstairs hallway benefits from thoughtful curation. “I approached designing this hallway as a fun opportunity to blend functionality and style,” says its designer, Courtney Walker.

Patterned wallpaper in neutral hues creates a subtle-yet-spirited backdrop for an array of enticing furnishings. Wide enough to accommodate a settee whose upholstery matches the wallpaper, the hallway also houses a slim carved console table accessorized with a ceramic lamp, books, artwork, and a collection of horn boxes.

An unusual sunburst mirror made of wood hangs above it. Large, colorful paintings, including one placed at the end of the hall, provide additional character. “I chose art that added vibrant pops of color and that complements the hallway’s color scheme,” explains Walker. A crystal chandelier serves as a crowning touch. Down below, a runner in subtle shades of blue and green unifies the space. —Jennifer Boles 127

The walls envelop visitors in the garden-level lounge, where designer Rozanne Jackson chose a whimsical wallpaper with labyrinth and deer motifs to be the room’s narrative thread. “I envisioned a space that felt welcoming to everyone, while offering a distinct and immersive experience upon entering,” says Jackson. While at first glance the space leans masculine with its earthy tones, Jackson brings in femininity with ruffled tassel trim on the barstools, overstuffed chairs, rounded hard surface edges and the wavededge rug. “I envisioned a couple living in this room, enjoying the moody, cozy atmosphere, which provides an intimate space to have meaningful conversations away from the hustle of the world. The deep greens and soft lighting create a perfect backdrop for quiet moments together,” says Jackson. The custom bar by Kingdom Woodworks complements the room’s intention as a space for stylish, relaxed entertaining. In-Law Suite

Kit Castaldo’s garden-level in-law suite is a place for guests to escape without the hustle and bustle of the main floor. Even though it’s subterranean, light pours into the room, illuminating its clean walls and shadowy linens. Castaldo imagined the space as a room for a well-traveled couple visiting their children. Rich, earthy tones—olive green, deep moss, burnt umber, and bark brown—evoke images of walking through an English park or the Italian countryside. The grand windows, framed with floor-to-ceiling drapery, showcase views of the surrounding landscape. Inside, Castaldo chose linen, velvet, and wool upholstery to bring in texture. The room’s reading nook is sprinkled with personal mementos. “Handcrafted pottery and a curated collection of books and artwork reflect the parents’ love for creativity and culture,” she says. The room is inviting without being fussy, giving guests a spot to sink into relaxation. In the corresponding en suite, Castaldo mimics the bedroom’s natural elements, choosing a stunning shell mirror paired with bronze sconces. —Nicole Letts 130

Atlanta-based interior designer Ron Jones of R Jones Designs knew that he wanted the home’s media room to be used for more than its stated purpose. “I was inspired by the idea of cinematic luxury creating a moody, elevated space that feels as much like an art gallery as it does a place to unwind,” he says. Jones started with a rich palette of deep espresso-hued walls, layered with soft, inviting creamy tones. A coffered ceiling adds architectural depth, sconces cast a subtle, flattering glow, an adjacent built-

in bar puts refreshment at guests’ fingertips, and bold abstract art adds visual interest. A plush sofa and a duo of club chairs, accented with cozy down-filled pillows and a faux-fur throw, provide ample spots to curl up for a movie or a deep conversation. “I wanted this room to feel like a warm cocoon, where every detail—from the lighting to the layering of texture—plays a role in the experience,” he says.

With her design for the home’s serene wellness spa, Source co-founder and creative director Cydney Mitchell proves that an area dedicated to health need not be void of smart, visually interesting design. “We were inspired by the idea of creating a space that felt like a true escape—a place to disconnect, exhale, and recharge,” she says. The dry sauna features curved bench seating and directional lighting integrated into the wood slats, while the adjacent wet sauna is wrapped in hand-laid pebble mosaic tile for a textural look and feel that engages multiple senses. The design team thought of extra ways to delight would-be homeowners and their guests, adding convenient wallmounted robe hooks, built-in marble shelving, dramatic art, and a filtered water station. For an unexpected focal point, a dried floral ceiling installation incorporates artful and unexpected natural elements. Says Mitchell, “This space is more than just a wellness room—it’s a physical representation of calm, a true sanctuary in every sense.”

Design-Build Influenced by both Cotswolds-style cottages and classic European detailing, the 10,000-square-foot house built

by Cole Construction is a melting pot of luxurious design. Conceived by William T. Baker, the home’s exterior is clad in fieldstone in the spirit of a traditional English manor house. The interior architecture, which was custom-designed and specified by Source, features a soothing mix of warm wood tones, natural stone, and Venetian plaster finishes. “The vision was to design a wellness retreat that felt both organic and elevated,” says Source’s Cydney Mitchell. Marble was used lavishly and inventively, particularly in the kitchen and scullery, where it was utilized for countertops, checkerboard flooring, and even deeply beveled wall tile. Richly colored wood finishes are another material highlight, starting with the foyer’s detailed wall paneling and archway. The home’s classical landscaping, which was designed by Chris Holden of Land Plus Associates, includes fieldstone hardscaping, boxwoods, and flowering and evergreen shrubs. The pool’s layout is noteworthy, and a pickleball court amps up outdoor play. Says Holden, “We emphasized the depth of the property by orienting the pool lengthwise, which draws your view outward toward the private wooded area beyond.” —Jennifer Boles
