LIBRARY ACCESS 3
elcome to the summer edition of The Library Access, which has features
and information for the months of May, June, and July. The issue highlights Library programs, events, information, and updates for those three months. A big part of the issue will be the focus on the 2023 Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “All Together Now.”
It is our hope that we can all move along during the summer months in lock step when it comes to the use of our libraries. Continuing our emphasis on reading will be ever present.
Summer reading is for all ages. To that end, you are being asked to help the Library staff make this the best summer ever in terms of library usage.
You are invited to each of the 34 libraries to check out materials, attend programs, use the technology, read magazines, and just ponder while sitting in the wonderful spaces.
The libraries have books for early learners; students who need to
What I’m Reading
keep on learning while school is in recess; and many materials for adults to fill their days with those items that will allow them to meet their leisure reading, and literacy and life skills needs. Featured programming will include traditional storytimes; craft programs and author visits. Upcoming programs will be announced for your fall reading and library visits. They include the announcement of the 2023 Children’s Book Festival and this years’ One Book, One Read selection.
So, keep reading Library Access to discover and confirm that the place to be this summer is at your favorite Fulton County library!

What moved you to get involved with the Atlanta Fulton Public Library Foundation?
My first involvement with the AtlantaFulton Public Library Foundation was as a consultant in 2017. They asked me to examine their fundraising activities and make recommendations for how to increase fundraising so the Foundation could support even more programs at the Fulton County Library. When the need for an Executive Director of the Foundation arose, they asked if I would be interested. I felt like I already knew the organization well and I had great respect for their Board members, so it was easy to decide to take this job.
READ THE FULL HIGHLIGHTS ONLINE!
What is your favorite part of serving on the Board of such a large public library system?
I enjoy serving with the other Trustees. Because all of our Trustees are library lovers, we all understand the Board’s role, which is to provide governance of the library system with oversight from the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. Management of the library system is the responsibility of Director Holloman. The Board is responsible for working with the Director on policy development, strategic planning, budgeting, and resource oversight. The Board is also responsible for evaluating of the Director, hiring the Director, and advocating for the library system.
