The Home Help Professions: Development and Professionalization Home help is a person who accompanies an elderly person or a person who has an illness or disability. The goal is to allow the person to stay at home with daily assistance, both physical and moral. A home help must be open to others, smiling and friendly. He/she must be very versatile to manage the different activities. A good physical condition is also preferable for all household chores. Home help needs to be very organized in both time and space to be as effective as possible. They must have some communication skills to be able to express themselves clearly and simply. Maintain the home of the accompanied person, cleaning, minor maintenance and repairs, laundry and ironing. Provide for food, from shopping to taking meals. Help with physical independence, assisting walking, waking and sleeping. Ensure personal hygiene by the toilet, the dressing, the accompaniment to the toilets. Support the person psychologically and intellectually by promoting listening, dialogue, games, and reading. Assist with the administrative procedures and organization of the weeks, make sure that appointments are made and that the budget is kept. Educate for autonomy on a hygienic level. Maintain the social bond, by monitoring family relationships and relationships with other providers.

Becoming a home help: Qualities required Home help accompanies the person on many levels. It is therefore important that the professional has great versatility. He must have a good physical condition to perform the household and daily tasks. He must also be attentive to the hygiene of the person and his needs. Organized in time and space, the individual must also be equipped with communication skills and be able to express itself clearly and simply. The important part is that they must be autonomous and initiative as well as respectful of the private life of the supervised person.
