“Big Help Out”

An important source of support for one of the country’s oldest surviving cinemas is to continue, after a number of new members have joined its committee, enabling the Club’s vital role to resume.

The Club faced an uncertain future recently, as several long serving committee members announced that they would be stepping down at the end of February.

Leiston Film Theatre Support Club was formed in 1992, as an independent group to raise funds to improve the facilities and interior décor of the Leiston Film Theatre, through numerous fund-raising activities and social events.

The Club have provided outstanding financial assistance towards the many improvements made at the venue over the past 30 years, totalling £135,000.

A campaign to recruit new committee members was thankfully successful, and at the Club’s recent A.G.M., several volunteers came forward to continue the important fundraising efforts and support, that the Club provides for Leiston’s iconic cinema.

Rachel Lilley, who takes over as the new Support Club Chairman was pleased to step forward, to lead the Club in maintaining its hard work. “I am delighted to have been elected as the new Chairman of the Support Club. We have formed a new strong committee, with lots of talent and ambitious ideas, and we are raring to go. Membership of the Support Club is critical to our success, and I hope that people will continue to sign up, to help keep Suffolk’s oldest cinema thriving” she said.

Film Theatre Manager, Wayne Burns, is delighted with the outcome. “It’s a great relief to see the Support Club remain and I have every confidence that the Club will continue to go from strength to strength. There are already some great ideas for fund raising events and new benefits for being a Club member and these will be announced soon, once the new committee has settled in” he said.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Leiston Film Theatre Support Club, can obtain a membership form from the Leiston Film Theatre box office, by contacting the Film Theatre on 01728 830549, or by emailing: staff@leistonfilmtheatre. co.uk.
