Historic buildings continue to relate to the past

The majority of signifi cant cultural buildings are located along St Clair St and within the south-east of the Gallatown area. These include individual buildings such as factory buildings, churches, weavers cottages and co-op building from the 18th and 19th century.

One of the more recent buildings is the Ice Ring, now Fife Icearena, a classic art decor building.

Relevance for Gallatown Improvements:

• Make the past visible through interpretation • If possible retain and re-purpose the few remaining historic buildings

Defi ned Policy Areas & Development Proposals

FifePlan indicates the lower part of St Clair St (blue area) as local shopping centre and Gallatown Park as open greenspace.

Only three small areas have been outlined for housing development, with two (KDY08 & 11) already recently undertaken.

Relevance for Gallatown improvements:

• Proposed green networks, diverse green and play spaces have to be retrofi tted within the existing open spaces
