2021 by the numbers

Dear Aspen Nation, Today, Aspen Dental stands at more than 960 offices, and our community of 13,000 team members collectively care for 30,000 patients every single day.

To be sure, 2021 was a great year.

A year of growth, opportunity and lots of wins. We opened the doors to 84 new locations and logged 6.3 million patient visits, delivering great care and reassurance to patients in need all year long despite the continued uncertainty due to the pandemic.

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that the experiences we create — for patients, and for our teams — matter deeply. And our ability to deliver a great one, consistently?

That matters, too. It’s really simple: When we deliver a great experience, it strengthens the Aspen Dental brand. And when we don’t, we damage it. One brand. One purpose. One team. AspenOne. Of course, it goes without saying that there is a lot going on in the business, with new initiatives and pilots underway that will transform the business for months and years to come. But I also know that those initiatives can sometimes lead us to get distracted from the thing that

matters most: Creating a great experience with every patient, every time. And the impact on people’s lives when we get the experience right? Well, there is nothing more powerful than that. Quite simply, it’s life changing.

When I think about our future, I’m incredibly optimistic. But I need to be honest: My optimism is not being driven by 3D printing, though it is incredibly cool, or digital workflows, though they are incredibly efficient.

Don’t get me wrong, I am excited about these initiatives and the potential they have to transform Aspen Dental practices. But at the end of the day, the single most important factor that drives my optimism about what comes next is all of you.

It’s the 13,000 people across 950 locations and four Practice Support Centers who deliver on our brand promise with a steadfast commitment to doing whatever it takes for your patients, your communities and for one another. In short, it’s about being Anything People and having a yes mindset.

So in closing, let me once again thank you.

A Major Milestone: Introducing the TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence Our organization was founded with a simple vision — to bring better care to more people.

We’re taking that vision a step further this summer with the grand opening of the TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence.

Located at our former Practice Support Center in Chicago’s West Loop, the 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-theart facility is equipped with the latest technology, 14 operatories and two surgical suites designed to provide comprehensive dental care at no cost to more than 2,500 underserved patients annually.

Doctors from across Aspen Nation will have a unique opportunity at the TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence. Under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Julie Frantsve-Hawley, and in partnership with a clinical faculty of Doctors and Specialists, this first-of-its-kind facility will help train hundreds of Doctors using the most innovative dental technology and clinical procedures.

From simple procedures like fillings and extractions to dental implants and restorative dentistry, we’re bringing comprehensive dental care to thousands of underserved people while also supporting the clinical development of Doctors from across Aspen Nation.

Opening the TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence grounds us in our mission and helps drive our work as the Anything People, doing anything to change lives, one smile at a time.

2022 Recognition Calendar It’s the compassion, commitment, and leadership of every team member across Aspen Nation who are the driving force behind breaking down barriers and getting patients the care they need, today.

A new chapter: The Aspen Group Dating back to our roots in 1998, we’ve believed dentistry could be done differently to break down the barriers to care for patients. Aspen Dental has led the way in bringing consumerism into healthcare, solving real problems for everyday Americans, while developing a provider model that supports Doctors every step of the way.

We represent more than dentistry. Our new expanded vision is bringing better care to more people, united by a shared commitment to treating them as patients and consumers. Since then we’ve grown from one to four by adding WellNow Urgent Care in 2016, and ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers and Chapter Aesthetic Studio in late 2020.

Get ready for our next Day of Service June 11, 2022

Aspen Nation, We Salute You! November plays host to Veterans Day, and what better way to show appreciation for our nation’s heroes than providing them with new smiles at no cost to them.

After over a year-long hiatus of the Healthy Mouth Movement due to the pandemic, our annual Day of Service made a huge comeback this year.

On Nov. 6, more than 530 Aspen Dental locations opened their doors and provided care to almost 3,000 military veterans and their family members — that’s a lot of smiles! Thanks to the compassion, commitment, and teamwork of many field teams, leaders, and PSC team members who said yes to Day of Service, more than $1.9 million in free dental services was donated, and most importantly, many lives were changed.

Day of Service helps break down barriers for millions of Americans who have little to no access to good oral care, lack insurance, or fear going to the dentist or being judged. This is especially challenging for most U.S. veterans because the Veterans Administration offers dental benefits only to those who are 100 percent disabled, have a service-related mouth injury or were a prisoner during active duty.

Expanding Access to Care

Growing to keep the smiles going Despite everything that’s happened in the last two years, the New Office Operations team kept moving onward and opened 84 new practices in 2021 recording 6,358,601 patient visits.

Adding to that amazing feat, we’ll be expanding access to care to many more with 90 more offices scheduled to open this year including a co-location of Aspen Dental and ClearChoice.

This will be a huge year as we plan to open the 1,000th Aspen Dental office by late spring or early summer.

With that milestone on the horizon, we’re excited for what the future holds, helping patients get the care they need across Aspen Nation, especially in underserved areas.

Innovation Improving Care Expanding + Access to Care

A lot has happened since launching Aspen Dental’s first ever exclusive clear aligner brand, Motto™, last June. Motto is available at over 728 offices that, to date, have helped over 4,500 patients get the new smiles they’ve always wanted and deserved.

As many of you know, we have updated and simplified several features of the Sure-Smile dashboard, includingthe Dental Exam, Prescription Process and Treatment Planning features. These changes have helped teams better manage and streamline cases. Additionally, we’ve updated the Motto boxes and baggies to make them more patient-friendly.

Lastly, we recently launched an exciting new program, Motto Momentum, that enables practices to earn a variety of great rewards based on the number of Motto cases charged out. Innovation + Improving Care

Expanding access to care with 3D-printed dentures

We’re making major strides with digital dentures.

As you know, Aspen is going digital with dentures and will transition to providing 3D-printed dentures nationwide. During our pilot last year, we made some major headway seeing better results and reducing Days-to-Insert by six days.

In 2021, 67 offices received the TRIOS and 3D-printing technology with 68 Lab Techs trained to provide

And there’s more to come. We’re planning to roll out digital dentures in 75 additional offices this quarter with 40 more Lab Techs recieving training as well.

Over the next several years, and through our multiyear strategic partnership with SprintRay Inc., an industry leader in digital dentistry and dental 3Dprinting, we’re confident all practices across Aspen Nation can give patients new smiles with faster and better fitting 3D-printed digital dentures.

3D-printed dentures as a treatment option, resulting in over 7,500 patients whose lives were changed with 3D-printed dentures. With the higher accuracy rate in fit and faster turnaround times, that’s 7,500 vastly improved patient experiences.

Breaking down barriers with implant dentistry Since leaning in on implant dentistry to Aspen in early 2020, much has happened. Over 730 offices are now equipped with Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to provide implant therapy as a truly life-changing treatment option to patients — another way we can be Anything People and do anything to make them smile.

Last year was one for the books, though, as we made a ton of progress in this category: • Doctors placed over 35,000 implants • 250 Doctors have received training through restorative webinars • 190 Doctors have received training through the surgical courses

And there’s so much more to come. We’re transitioning from Nobel BioCare implants to Straumann implants, one of the leading implant manufacturers in the dental industry. Work has also begun on our new training center for live implant educational programs at TAG headquarters in Chicago, and classes are expected to be available later this year. Finally, we are rolling out 3Shape TRIOS scanners and SprintRay 3D printers nationally this year. This will enable practices to begin printing implant surgical guides in-office.

New patient experience with you in mind Aspen practices see 30,000 patients a day — that’s 30,000 opportunities to burnish the Aspen Dental brand and change someone’s life through amazing experiences. Those opportunities are on our doorsteps every day, and we want to make sure you’re equipped to make the best of them.

The Patient Experience Dashboard, powered by Qualtrics, is a tool designed specifically to show practice teams how they’re doing on the quality of the patient experience in their office and offer opportunities to improve. The new dashboard is a real-time pulse of our Net Promoter Score (NPS) that provides transparency, text analytics and a level of information that helps teams quickly take action to improve the experiences of new and existing patients.

Some of the great new dashboard features include: • Role-based, single-sign on and the ability to access the dashboard on any device • A downloadable mobile app to access the dashboard anywhere • Patient feedback that’s available in real-time from both new and existing patients • An expanded view into all the patient survey questions and comments • The ability to download data and comments.

To help Aspen patients find the best financing solutions for their personal situation, we’ve launched a new patient financing experience, powered by Versatile Credit, a technology company that seamlessly helps millions get financing to pay for their care.

The new platform places the financing experience in the patient’s hands so team members can be true patient financing consultants and product experts.

The platform streamlines data entry with a seamless patient-facing step-by-step process that provides the financing options most suitable to them.

With the new Patient Experience Dashboard, better visibility of NPS will position you to be Anything People, every day, and do anything to deliver exceptional patient experiences.

Teams have access to easy-to-use dashboards that help to quickly launch applications, access recent applications, or view and edit financing for patient treatments. It also provides access to a high-line prime lender for larger treatments and, eventually, a tertiary lender to provide financing to doubledeclined patients with lower credit.

Workday for a better work day We recently launched Workday, a new tool that will help us simplify, standardize, and streamline Finance, HR and Procurement systems across the organization.

Workday replaced several systems, including ADP, iCIMS and Expense Wire, to name a few. Our goal is to streamline the way we work by using a system that’s user-friendly and allows for self-service when needed.

This quarter, we expect to fully roll out Workday across the organization with the following features: For team members: • Carry out day-to-day functions including entering and tracking time, submitting PTO requests and expense reports, viewing pay stubs, using the mobile app to manage personal data, and more.

For leaders: • Review and approve PTO requests, timecards, and expense reports, accessteam member information, create purchase requisitions, view your org chart, including current and open positions, complete key HR and Finance tasks from the office or the road with mobile capabilities, and more.

We’re confident the move to Workday will enhance the way you manage your personal work tasks for a better and more efficient experience.

Taking the hassle out of IVFs Our new IVF process is EPIC! But really, we’re calling it Project EPIC, Extraordinarily Powerful Insurance Capability.

We’re positive the platorm will improve the financing experience with automated and maximized financing approvals for patients, even those who require a higher line of credit, empowering teams to be Anything People, say yes to more patients and grow more, every day.

We recently launched Project EPIC in three offices to test a new electronic platform for processing IVFs, with plans to eventually roll out the program across the organization. The new platform automatically processes up to 80 percent of insurance verifications, leaving PSRs with less paperwork to worry about and more time to focus on patients.

With this new process, we’re bridging the gap to a better experience by removing the complexity and time-consumption of the old process, implementing a platform that delivers accurate estimates based on treatment entries, enhancing team satisfaction and engagement, and most importantly, increasing time PSRs can spend building trust and relationships with patients. We’ve also reduced the number of fields PSRs need to complete for insurance to ten or less.

We know project EPIC will prove to be a win-win across the board, maximizing PSRs’ time and efficiency, and patients’ overall experiences.

Feeling the VIBE in Chicago More than 40 Candidates (and Counting!)

Say “Yes” to Joining Aspen Nation As Aspen Nation continues to grow, so does our need to continue to add amazing dentists to our family. And that was exactly our focus on February 26, when we hosted our biggest VIBE Session ever at TAG headquarters in Chicago.

Despite winter storms wreaking havoc in airports across the country, more than 500 candidates and guests made their way to the Windy City, where they spent two days learning about everything that Aspen Dental has to offer new dentists, from our culture of support and collaboration to world-class learning and development and beyond.

TAG Chairman and CEO Bob Fontana opened the session by showcasing how life at Aspen Dental is about dentistry, and so much more, in a presentation that answered candidates’ most burning questions, while Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Arwinder Judge dove deep into clinical support and learning programs.

What followed were a series of free-wheeling “Ask Me Anything” discussions with general dentists, endodontists, and oral surgeons, which covered a wide-range of topics from work-life balance to how appointments are scheduled.

VIBE 2022 marked the largest in person recruiting event that we’ve ever hosted, and thanks to the participation of 70+ practice owners, partners, and field leaders, more than 500 interviews were conducted on Saturday afternoon.

The result? More than 140 offers were extended, and perhaps more importantly, more than 40 candidates had said “Yes” to those offers as of press time, with more expected in the weeks and months ahead.

It was a good VIBE, indeed.

Another highlight? A special guest appearance by Dr. Raymond Cohlmia, the new executive director of the American Dental Association, who highlighted the increasing frequency with which dental students are choosing to practice with dental support
