eLAINe Quijano, anchor of CBs’ digital network CBsN, is making history as the first Asian American and first digital network anchor to moderate a national debate during the general election campaign. the 42-year-old filipino-American anchor is also one of the youngest debate moderators. the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) announced last week that Quijano will moderate the only debate between vice presidential nominees senator tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Governor mike Pence (r-Ind.) on tuesday, oct. 4 at Longwood University in farmville, Virginia. According to the CPD, the 90-minute debate will be broken up into nine segments of 10 minutes each and will be broadcast without commercial interruption on the CBs television Network and CBsN at 9 p.m. et. “It’s an honor to be chosen to help bring the issues of this critical election to the public,” Quijano said, as reported by CBs News. the filipino-American is a weekday anchor for CBsN, CBs News’ 24-hour digital streaming network, and spearheads its political reporting. she is also an anchor of the sunday edition of CBs “Weekend News” and

DHS considers ending use of private prisons to house detained immigrants A DePArtmeNt of homeland security (Dhs) advisory council has until November 30 to decide whether the federal government will continue holding detained immigrants in for-profit prisons, or end its use of private detention centers. homeland security secretary Jeh Johnson commissioned the Dhs review on friday, August 26, then publicized it at a press event the following monday, August 29, according to Politico. the investigation comes amidst mounting scrutiny from humanitarian groups, and just over a week after officials at the Department of Justice (DoJ) announced they would not renew contracts with private prison operators.
