As 2020 Census approaches, minority groups risk undercount LACK of preparation and appropriations have already put the upcoming decennial 2020 Census at risk of an inaccurate count. With less than three of years to go, advocates are making the public aware of the consequences. While the census looks to find population changes and other information of who makes up the United States, it more importantly uses the derived data to address the nation’s needs, like determining representation of each area in the U.S. House of Representatives. Palace explains Duterte threat to EU ambassadors to leave PH by DANA
SIOSON AJPress
PHILIPPINE President Rodrigo Duterte has told European Union (EU) ambassadors to leave the country after being critical towards the administration’s anti-illegal drugs campaign. In a speech on Thursday, October 12, Duterte slammed the EU for supposedly lobbying for the Philippines’ removal from the
United Nations (UN). “You leave my country in 24 hours. All of you,” an enraged Duterte said. He added, “You must have taken the Filipino for granted…Do not come to this country again, we do not need you. You want to expel us? You try.” But in a bid to clarify the chief executive’s remark, Malacañang immediately explained that Duterte’s tirade was directed to a
group of parliamentarians who issued an “irresponsible” statement against the administration. In a statement, Duterte’s spokesperson, Ernesto Abella, acknowledged that the seven-member delegation of the International Delegates of the Progressive Alliance, did not represent the EU’s mission in Manila. “The president’s expression of outrage is in reaction to statePAGE A2 Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella

Gov. Brown signs multiple immigrants’ rights bills
State Senate bills aim to protect undocumented immigrants and uphold California as a sanctuary state
IT has been a big week for immigrant rights advocates in California. Acting on his promise to advocate for California’s undocumented community, Governor Jerry Brown last week signed a package of bills designed to protect the rights of undocumented individuals and their families. As a part of his annual package of bills, the long-time governor signed bills that defied federal proposals on immigration advised by President Donald Trump and his administration. “This action protects public safety and ensures hard-working people who contribute to our state are respected,” Brown said in a statement. THERE were no reports that Filipinos were among the casualties of the wildfires that swept through California’s wine county, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday, Oct. 9. At least 10 people were killed in the wildfires that spread over north of San Francisco from Napa in the south to Redding in the north. The Philippines has expressed its sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the massive wildfires. “We pray that our kababayans and other residents in the affected areas be kept safe and their homes spared from the fires,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said. About 15 separate wildfires spread through and affected over 73,000 acres, destroyed 1,500 structures and caused the evacuation of 20,000 residents, according to the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco.
