mANILA — President rodrigo Duterte said the Philippines is ready to take in refugees “until the country is filled to the brim.” the tough-talking president told Al Jazeera’s “101 east” aired on thursday, Nov. 17 that his critics from the

west could learn from the Philippines in this aspect. Duterte had called the european Union and the United states hypocrites in a speech last september after concerns on killings and rights violations in his war on drugs. “Kayong Us, eU you can call me anything. But I was never into or I am

CONSUMER ALERT: UTILITIES CALL SCAM

WAshINGtoN – the federal communications commission (fcc) is alerting consumers to be on the lookout for callers pretending to be utility company employees demanding immediate payment, often by prepaid debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards. As American consumers prepare for winter months when many people would be endangered by an interruption to heating fuel, the fcc’s consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau wanted to make consumers aware of this scam and prepared to protect themselves. Key consumer tip: If consumers receive a call warning them of a balance they do not believe they owe their utility, they should hang up, independently look up their utility company’s phone number on a recent statement or legitimate website, and call that number to verify the legitimacy of the call. Every official trip he makes must be worth the money spent for it, President Duterte pointed out on Thursday, Nov. 17, saying it was the people’s money that funded the trips. “You know, whenever you go out, you spend the money of the people, and so you must have a good reason to spend it,” Duterte said in a brief talk before he flew to Lima, Peru for the 24th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Davao. The president and his party of about 60 people took a Philippine Airlines Boeing 777 chartered flight on a more than 24-hour flight to Lima, transiting through Auckland, New Zealand. marcos, with rep. Jonathan A. dela cruz acting as complainant, has accused comelec and smartmatic of violating sections 4(a)(1), (3), and (4) of the cybercrime Prevention Act (r.A. No. 10175).
